Lexus NX 450h+ 2022 - Best Hybrid, OKish SUV (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

  • The 2022 Lexus NX is slightly larger than its predecessor in every dimension. It’s 2 cm longer and wider, the wheelbase is 3 cm longer, the car is 5 mm taller. The front track is 3 cm wider, and the rear track is almost 6 cm wider.
    This is the NX 450h+, which means a plug-in hybrid. The only visual difference from the regular hybrid model is the charging port on the right side. The boot volume hasn’t changed.
    Lexus designers made the hybrid powertrain an integral part of the car, rather than a cumbersome add on, like in the BMW X3. Of course, the BMW has an AWD system that depends on the internal combustion engine, whereas the Lexus NX has an electric motor in the back, and therefore the plug-in hybrid doesn’t need a driveshaft. The traction battery lives under the floor, and there’s no need to move the petrol tank.
    The new infotainment system has great potential, but I reserve my verdict for when I get my hands on it after several over the air updates.

    Finally a Lexus that can really be an alternative to the german competition. I find it interesting that Toyota/Lexus has one of the best PHEV drivetrains. Their first fully electric cars are so so but they really got this hybrid game down since the first prius.

Looks nice, the interior is better and I like the toys inside. The steering wheel buttons, working with the HUD in particular is something really clever, I think. But man, I was laughing audibly while you were fighting with the voice control 😂😂😂 Almost sent you in Hungary, instead of a restaurant 😂😂😂 And hey, I desire a Lexus and I'm not 86 years old (only 33) - that's gotta be an improvement for the brand 😅

    trying to say "I'm hungry" 5 times, when it's apparent, that car doesn't understand it, is quite dumb. you should ask to find a restaurant and you'd get an answer immediately. car systems aren't perfect, but here, the human was an idiot.

    • @MarekDrivesENG
      @MarekDrivesENG  Před 2 lety +1

      Funny thing: I can say "I'm hungry" in Polish, when the system language is set to Polish, and it understands, I'm looking for a restaurant. I imagine it uses the same phrases in various languages.

      @@MarekDrivesENG if I remember well, "I'm hungry" in Slovak doesn't work. And there are bugs: e.g. system has trouble saying temperature numbers or pronunciation of special characters, or in pre-production version the answer sometimes came in Hungarian, not in Slovak. Anyway, here in Slovakia all journalists (so far) were quite impressed how the system works (in Slovak).

    • @MarekDrivesENG
      @MarekDrivesENG  Před 2 lety

      @Car Mojo it takes more to impress me, than a half-baked infotainment system, and door handles, which nobody will know how to operate in case of emergency. Windows will be broken.

    • @CarMojo
      @CarMojo Před 2 lety +4

      @@MarekDrivesENG Man, your bias against Toyota/Lexus is so apparent. You dedicated quite a portion of your video just to show how "half-baked" infotainment is by stupidly repeating the same phrase again and again.
      And about those door handles - omg - just because you can't learn or get used to anything new doesn't mean it's bad. IMO, Lexus finally did the door handles as they always should be - with most cars you have to pull the lever, then move your hand elsewhere to grab the handle and open the door. For anyone without broken brain, who can learn/remember such an easy thing as where one button is, opening the door in Lexus in an emergency can be even more intuitive and quicker: grab the handle + at the same time push/pull the button + open the door. One functionality at one place, that's called ergonomics. Btw, there is a pictogram next to the button telling you what to do... "Windows will be broken" - that's so silly; there's quite a number of cars with electrically operated doors with mechanical emergency release, no-one has ever complained, just one Polish guy who doesn't know his car and/or can't read the user's manual of the car he's driving.

    I think the bezel around the infotainment is rather ugly.
    The height of the front seats means a taller person may be bothered by how close the roof is.
