    ---
    So what we have here is a 2.5L 4 cylinder engine - that makes 203hp and 184lbft
    But then you also have a typical hybrid drive system that brings electric only power OR an electric supplement which boosts reported power to 302 hp and a torque figure that you need to be an engineer to decipher
    So sure it’s a hybrid, but this is the same powertrain as the Rav4 Prime we tested earlier this year and that’s the fastest Toyota they make….so what’s it like with the 4,444lb NX body?
    0-60 is done in 5.5 seconds accordion to Lexus, but it certainly feels quicker than that.
    We said this is a hybrid so fuel economy is important and this being a plug-in something like mpg is also difficult to estimate because it really depends on how much battery you have, etc.
    The NX350h, the non-plug in achieves 39 mpg in mixed conditions so you can expect AT LEAST that in the 450h+
    But again, the appeal of this car is the plug-in. We said, during our time with the Rav4 Prime that PHEV is the perfect solution to range anxiety
    The Nx450h+ delivers 37 mile of full EV range which should be more than enough to get you to work in the morning
    But we also said that it’s heavy - 4,444 lbs, andd that’s due largely to the battery
    So does that ruin the dynamics?
    No, its still very Lexus feeling. The suspension is tuned more for comfort than performance, but this is a hybrid compact SUV...so like were you expecting it to drive like a Ferrari?
    Everything is smooth, but responsive. The power delivery is seamless, the CVT fakes shifts but feels good, the AWD system keeps traction no problem, the ride is smooth, and the cabin is quiet
    But like I said earlier this is all new for 2022 so let’s step outside and take a look
    At a quick glance the new NX wouldn’t seem too different than the old one, but we just did an Instagram post about the textures of Lexus. The idea of that was that, especially for luxury cars it’s all about the little details.
    The blue paint is dynamic
    The black Spindle grille has never looked better in this Fsport trim
    The entire front end is sharp and aggressive
    The wheels fill out impeccably
    And then the big differences come in the back
    The overlapping taillights dominate the aesthetic
    And this is the first Lexus to ditch the L logo on the back for the spelled outLexus
    Comprehensively, it’s a simple, elegant, and aggressive design that doesnt miss
    Let’s step inside - fumble with door handle - oh and the door handles are just glamorized buttons
    The handles in here are the same idea, they’re buttons that will trigger an electric latch release, bt dont worry there’s a physical fail safe
    In here the design is anothe big change from the outgoing. They’ve completely moved away fromthe touchpad infotainment thank god, but not everything is perfect
    This is the first Lexus to get this new gen infotainment system so there will be some small annoyances that they will fix with over the air updates
    The annoyances are things like slightly laggy response in some menus and the baking in of climate into the screen.
    The safety suite is also the best its ever been and isn’t quite on par with Hyundai or Tesla but its getting there
    Thn in terms of features, let’s be honest you’re just going to use ACP 90%of the time and that works perfectly and has a shortcut button
    Digitl cluster is overwhelming to look at at first, but is perfect once you know where everything is
    The sterling wheel is new and looks and feels great and offers almost too mch customizability
    Wireless charger, and a bunch of storage.
    But AGAIN this is a Lexus so comfort is key. This is incredibly lux from the wonderful seats, the quality of the textures you interact with, and from the sense of space you feel from everywhere i the cabin.
    Overall, it’s been fantastic to live with on all fronts and definitely something you should consider if you’re looking for a new car
    So ,the 2022 Lexus NX450h+ is brand new, but more than that it marks a big transition for Lexus.
    It’s the first plug in for them
    It’s the first with the new infotainment
    It’s the first to go with the script rear branding
    What it comes together as is, in this journalists opinion, the perfect solution for the daily driver.
    It’s fabulous to look at
    It’s shockingly efficient without carrying range anxiety
    It’s legitimately quick and fun
    It’s Lexus comfortable
    It’s shockingly spacious and practical
    Finally the modern tech is there
    And at just over $56,500 to start it’s the most expensive NX, but it’s not outrageously expensive for everything it delivers

    very nice and honest review, Lexus could easily sell their products at least 30% more expensive, and the LC, way more. They just think different which is part of their appeal, Lexus is not for the show off, ego centric personality, but for the educated confident customer.

    To steal from Helen Reddy's song "I am hybrid hear me roar, in decibels you can't ignore.." :) PHEVs (plug in hybrids), what a ripoff. You'd think the large(r) battery would be used to use the EV mode to accelerate and quickly replenish the battery after achieving steady speed. Oh, no such luck. Looks like this hybrid ROARS just as much as other hybrids. A few days ago I sat in an NX. I am 5'7" and raised the seat, yet looking over the hood on to the road was like trying to look over a mountain. The cabin looked so cramped. So I got up and walked away...to a new ES300h hybrid. Well, I fell in love and chose it to trade in my old car for! In contrast, the hybrid roar in the 2022 ES300h is subdued and yet the car is very peppy. 44 mpg. And finally we get a touchscreen. The large 12 inch screen is just awesome. I was about to get the 8 inch screen without navigation, saving about $4000 but changed my mind and got one with navigation and 12 inch screen. It also came with the Mark Levinson sound system. In that sound system, listening to HD radio and CD is grand but the sound using bluetooth isn't as grand. The 8 inch screen is just not as colorful and sharp. These days, it is essential to get a screen at least 10 inches or larger as there is so much information that needs to be displayed on the screen. Please note that the Android Auto or Apple Carplay USES A USB CABLE and is not wireless.

    Um yeah no it’s not.
    The nx is an absolute disappointment compared to the competition.
    It has a cheap feeling interior, powertrain’s are boring and lackluster, it’s fwd, since it’s literally a rav4. Tech isn’t that great.
    Sure it’s reliable but so is a cheaper rav4 or venza…
    Imagine spending 60K on this and only getting 300hp…

    • @thecriticalthinkeroutsidet4947
      @thecriticalthinkeroutsidet4947 Před 2 lety +12

      A "cheap feeling interior" that's the most up-to-date Lexus has ever taken with much better fit and finish compared to the competition, class competitive powertrains that are more reliable than the competition (with a class-leading PHEV powertrain combo), and has new tech from the brand with much more standard tech (and advanced safety tech) compared to the competition. Got it.
      Also, the NX comes standard with AWD. Only the low base engine comes with FWD optional.

    • @naveenthemachine
      @naveenthemachine Před 2 lety

      @@thecriticalthinkeroutsidet4947 I agree on the PHEV. It’s a great powertrain and I’d have no problem with it… if it weren’t priced at $60K. Plus the range topping powertrain only gets 300hp. 300hp as the range topping power is fine for a Toyota, but for a Lexus to have 300hp as the most power and the fact that it’s 20-30K more expensive?
      I also admit the powertrains are okay. 4 engine choices is great for variety, but even you have to admit that they could have done a lot more. To start, either the nx250 needs to be axed, or the nx250 should use the 2.4L Turbo as the base engine, not the noisy 4 cylinder in the Camry/RAV4. That combo just doesn’t work for the nx. Ideally the nx350 should have used the 3.5L v6 from the Camry. If Lexus just resurrected their 5.0L v8 in the IS, why couldn’t Lexus offer their 3.5L v6? Not only would that have helped add to the nx’s refinement over the RAV4, but it would have also increased their sales. Everyone knows Toyotas 3.5L v6 are bulletproof. Why else do the RX ES highlander sell so well? It’s their v6 that plays a role. I could only imagine that the 2.4L turbo would probably cause their sales to tank because the bigger the vehicle, the less appealing a turbo 4 cylinder gets. It means it’ll just wear out faster yes even in a Toyota. The 2.4 in a smaller car like the UX wouldn’t be an issue at all since the ux is a smaller lighter vehicle.
      The nx interior is modern I agree, but it lacks any wow factor and nice details that you would expect for a higher end car. Even the last gen nx was more luxurious inside. Tbh even the current RX350/RX450h despite its age feels more luxurious inside with more detail and more wood and metal inlays. There doesn’t seem to be much design put into it. And you know from the LC that the interior design alone is stunning. If you compared the nx interior to the RDX, CX5, venza or gv70 you’d know what I’m talking about. I wouldn’t say the nx necessarily has better fit and finish than it’s competitors but I’d say it’s on par and maybe better than a rav4 limited although I’ll say the fit and finish is without a doubt much better than a base or mid level RAV4 XLE.
      The nx AWD is standard which is definitely nice but so is the gv70. And the gv70 has a rear biased AWD system. The AWD system on the nx is taken off the RAV4. Heck even the cheaper RAV4 or similarly priced highlander offer the new dynamic torque vectoring AWD, something you would kind of expect to be offered on a pricier vehicle vs it’s mainstream counterpart.
      Also regarding the safety tech, the gv70 and Rdx both have the same standard safety tech. Only vs the Germans are the Asian cuvs a better deal safety tech wise

    • @thecriticalthinkeroutsidet4947
      @thecriticalthinkeroutsidet4947 Před 2 lety +5

      @@naveenthemachine The 5.0L V8 is an engine that has been in the Lexus lineup for quite some time now, and the NX always came with a Turbo I4. Which has a smaller engine displacement than a V6, meaning better fuel economy, and more low-end torque, meaning faster acceleration. The NX has far more sound insolation, making it far quieter. Many have agreed that the car drove like a baby RX.
      The NX has better and more sturdy fit and finish than its competitors, using real trim for various materials to the point where even the door handles are satin chrome finished in a push button design. The design is also what you expect from an entry-level luxury CUV, and it's the most upgraded the brand has been pushed forward to.
      The NX has more safety tech than its rivals, with even stuff like improved Daytime and Low-Light Detection of Cyclists and Motorcyclists as well as Guardrail Detection. This is in addition to the adaptive cruise control system with Curve Speed Management and supported left turns at intersections that the pre-collision system had before, and improved Lane Recognition to work even when tracing lanes, also means an upgrade on the feature’s line recognition, Risk Avoidance Emergency Steering, and alert system for lane departure. It all comes standard, too, while its rivals have them as options.

    • @markstreeter9920
      @markstreeter9920 Před 2 lety

      Rav4 prime in top trim is around 50k, so about 10-12k cheaper. This gives you better tech (screen resolution and software) and also give you better handling in the F sport trim. $7,500 Tax credit should be the same on both, so Rav4 Prim around 42,500 and the Lexus 52,500-54,500 depending on how many options you get.
