      @lonestarwolfentertainment7184 Před 5 lety +45

      Honestly I'd say Starkiller base was less economically taxing then the Death Star, since the weapon was built into an actual planet (most likely using its own resources) instead of having a giant space station built just for it and it didn't even require the extremely rare giant Kyber Crystals to function just a Star (and the universe is filled with those and new ones are born every day). So yeah Starkiller base is superior to the Death Star both from a destructive capability standpoint and an economic standpoint

      I see tons of people saying "They just keep using death stars so unoriginal" or something along those lines. Let's think of it this way if you can build a weapon that can destroy planets and it gets destroyed would you rather rebuild it stronger and stronger until it can wipe out multiple planets and get rid of all its weak points by trial and error OR would you rather abandon the weapon and go back to using conventional armies and weaker weapon systems? I think building more advanced death stars until it becomes truly indestructible is the best option imo.

    • @MWBalls
      @MWBalls Před 7 lety +61

      To be fair, before Disney nuked it all there was multiple levels of canon for the SW universe. A lot of the stuff on this list comes from comics and video games which were the lowest level of cannon and barely, if even, acknowledged by the whole. The novels and movie novelizations where the second tier canon and they didn't get too crazy. Some were actually very good if you could get over the fact that Luke, Han, and Leia had impenetrable plot armor, by order of GL.

    Death Star II also had advanced targeting systems that allowed it to target the Rebel Alliance's Mon Cal cruisers and other command-class ships, which was an improvement of its predecessor.
    The Starkiller beam is already made up of light, so saying that it goes at light speed is a little redundant. There is still no explanation how a beam of light can travel from one end of the galaxy to another within a few minutes unless they could open a portal at the Starkiller Base and another at a targeted system. Something like the Infinity Gun.
    It seems that the rest of the super weapons depend upon or use some form of science when they either prepare or use the weapon, and I have no problems with that as they can be relatively explained and understood.

      Vrox_ And yet it's visible when it's traveling as was seen on Maz's Castle. Starships and the pergill can't be seen when they travel through hypserspace.
      ***** True enough. Lightspeed is the slang term for traveling through hyperspace when in actuality a spacecraft can travel through hundreds and even thousands of times faster than light.

    • @Charaqat
      @Charaqat Před 8 lety +4

      Well actually, Hyperspace is near lightspeed, but contained in it's own "Dimension" that dilates time, and through the use of assists on board a ship can make the ship shrink the distance between destinations without ship particle collapse (The Falcon), and the class of the hyperdrive determines how close to light speed a ship can go before catastrophic failure resulting in many disasters that can happen from the hyperspace "tunnel" collapsing on the ship, being trapped for thousands of years in slow motion while for anybody outside of the "tunnel" is experiencing real time, etc. So if you experience a day on say, a Venator in hyperspace, it is a full day outside of hyperspace too, but without time dilation assists on the ship, a full day on the ship that you do not notice is in slow motion, is really the amount of time it would take raw light without hyperspace to travel to the destinations, one day on the ship could be hundreds or thousands of years.
      In all logic, the simplest way of explaining Hyperspace, is traveling through time it's self, almost like Doctor Who.

      +Štěpán Hájek Wow now the whole thing actually makes sense! Seeing as Starkiller Base consumes "the energy of a star" it is likely that it actually doesn't fire a laser, but a giant beam of the stars plasma, which is of course highly magnetic. Seeing as the beam can split and change direction it could be guided by magnetic and plasma hardened missiles which fly inside the beam! (Such heat immune material exists in SW legends: "Sun Crusher".) Those Missiles could also do the hyperspace jump.
      ... Or you look on Jedipedia and read some nonesense about Dark Energy transformed to Phantom Energy, which tears a hole through Hyperspace or something...

    You keep saying things travel at or near the speed of light but that honestly isn't that fast on a cosmic scale. Even our closest neighboring star is over 3 years away and it is basically face hugging us in relation to the rest of the galaxy. The Milky Way is estimated to be about 100k light years across. I guess those weapons would be a threat eventually but it would almost be like attacking a country by letting snails carry your bombs there. I understand that the weapons were powerful but unless they were used in close proximity then it wouldn't exactly be a practical way to attack someone. Especially when people have faster than light travel. They would just go somewhere else and be like "well, dodged that bullet. good thing it's so slow."

    • @TheAnomaly00
      @TheAnomaly00 Před 7 lety +3

      Dr Pancake Face Gaming I understand the knee-jerk "But wait..." however you are forgetting one crucial thing, on the Star Wars universe, Faster Than Light travel is achieved by travelling through Hyperspace. Furthermore, the relative speed at which you move through Hyperspace affects your Distance over-time. So travelling at THE SPEED OF LIGHT, while moving through dimension that allows you to travel several light years while moving through it at the pace of a brisk walk...Let's just say the only reason they haven't gone Extra-Galactic is because of the enormous Hyperspace Anomaly present just outside the Galaxy.

    Darksaber is the name of the plan said by jyn erso just before she finds stardust. People have been referencing the black lightsaber from cannon but it is called the Black Saber. I know its legends material but it seems like it might connect.

    I thought the Tarkin was just a big ion canon. I'd argue that Eclipse-class super star destroyers from Legends count. Even discounting their superlasers, their conventional weapons could easily make everything on a planet dead or wishing it were.

And can be destroyed by like 10 little bombs and x-wing laser beams, of course(which didnt even hit anywhere near the core).^^

    Canon: Malachor's Sith Temple, The Death Star, The Death Star 2, Starkiller base, Legends: Center point Station, The Star Forge, Cosmic Turbine, PlaneChanga, Infinity Gate, Dark Reaper, Hammer Station, Mass Shadow Generator, The Desolator, Shawken Device, Trigon One, Infant of Shaa, Death Star Prototype, Orbital Nightcloak, Tarkin, The Conqueror, The Sun Crusher, Galaxy Gun, World Devastators, The DarkSaber, Yo'Gand's Core, technically The Eclipse and The Sovereign. In Canon: 4 superweapons, in Legends: 23. Of those 13 of those were made by the Galactic Empire, 2 were created by the Rakata, two more were on planets in the Malachor system, and of those only 4 of them have the potential to destroy Stars, they are Starkiller Base, which could technically suck all the energy of a star till it supernovas, after a long period of time, The Suncrusher, which could destroy Stars completely, Centerpoint Station, which could move and implode stars with it's advanced Tractor beam technology, and the Star Forge which could do the same damage as Starkiller base does to a host star. Yup think I got them all info on it, Although quick mention of the Silencer and other one off star destroyers with weak superlasers on them, although I think that the Eclipse's and the Sovereign's superlaser should count as well, cuz they could destroy a moon at the very least. Okay bye, get me a lot of likes this took a while to write.
