X-wing pilot: WHAT IS THAT!
Y-wing pilot: I have no idea, they come out with new ties every day.
Oh that’s cute
We just get letters
Next: a big tie fighter that drops wingless ties as bombs
Sounds like apple to me lol
TIE Blitzkrieg
Fun Fact: The regular TIE fighter wing is the separatist emblem.

I laughed so hard when I learned that the tie drone had better armor than the ties with real people... that's palpy for you lol.
It kind of makes sense. If you keep the same size, a manned fighter needs oxygen and life support, extra room for the pilot, room for instrument panels and controls, where the drone basically just needs a computer and the rest of the space can be taken up by armor plating or frankly anything else you feel like bolting on.
TheFakePro lmaoo most definitely
You're comparing the Empire when they had almost limitless pilots and resources to when they were on the run and had to fall back on droids. Plus Palpatine was a terrible ruler, for multiple reasons.

I was just a door guard on the Deathstar during my early days with the Empire. It sucked, lots of long hours and low pay but I was happy & honored to just be a part of the organization then I got a shot at being a pilot, went through training successfully and was assigned to a standard TIE fighter squadron. Flew in many battles against the rebels and shot down many X-Wings & a few Y-Wings as well. After about 30 successful mission sorties, I was promoted to the Royal Guard and assigned my own TIE Interceptor. You have to see it in person to truly appreciate it's beauty, very fast & agile & never let me down. I'm retired now and living in cloud city, I miss those days very much though, that was the time of my life...

Honestly I kinda like it, because it's a TIE fighter with a *turbolaser.*
Tie phantom is the best hands down, looks awesome and threatening, is effective, is somewhat mass producable.
In the story, it would have been very mass-producible, but like most things that would have given the Empire an edge, the production facility got sabotaged by Rebels and then the Emperor got upset and scrapped the project. Basically they'd built another superlaser called the Tarkin (which, you know, also got sabotaged), and Grand Admiral Martio Batch ordered it used on the lava planet Aeten II, blowing the planet open and allowing lots of stygium crystals to be mined for the cloaking devices.
6:10 a cloaking device? to quote captain needa, "No ship that small could have a cloaking device!"
He also thought he could withstand an orbital cannon and catch the Millennium Falcon.

*Star Wars: I said this WAS STAR WARS!!!!*
I mean, like most TIEs, they deployed from ceiling racks and weren't designed for independent operation. In space, the design is fine.
I love the concept and design of TIE fighters. But the one thing that's always bothered me is their lack of visibility to the rear and sides. Doesn't that severely handicap the pilots in dogfights? Has it been explained in the lore at all how they compensate for this lack of visibility?
the helmets very likely have a HUD....ever notice how some times TIE pilots look to the side when getting shot from theside or rear it's to look at the target in the HUD
The standard T.I.E. Fighter contained no shields, hyperdrive, and the first iteration’s weaponry was prime to overheating because the Empire didn’t want to spend money on coolant. T.I.E. pilots had shorter life expectancy than literally any other member of the Empire, or Rebellion for that matter. They were literally expected to run around and do their best to not get shot without knowing where they’re being shot from.
@@sharrant8541 “expendable”
If you can put cams on a road legal car I think they could put some on their fighters
People explained how they can see, but my answer is more practical: The TIE-s were cheap SUPER mass produced units that valued quantity over quality and turned it up to 11. To compensate with Tarkin's doctrine, the Empire trained their pilots to the absolute extreme. On average they were the finest soldiers in the galaxy. It is truly unfortunate they were given the ties to work with (or not...I guess, since that made the rebels winning possible?). The average Empire pilot if given for example an A-wing, X-wing or a more mass produced Interceptor would dominate 8/10 dog fights when outnumbered.
I absolutely adore the TIE Series designs, with the TIE Interceptor being ranked among my top favorite Sci-fi Ship designs. However if I was a pilot I would never get into any of these spherical coffins ever. Even better models with shields & hypredrives such as the Advanced X1 and Defender, because anyone can see how terrible the cockpit is. In aerial/space combat, awareness is top priority and you need 180 - 360 degree FOV and up as well.
EDIT: Though the TIE Phantom has an acceptable cockpit and overall efficient design, but it requires 2 crew, pilot and gunner.
Your HUD in your helmet provides massive visibility compared to standard Rebel fighters.
Well Defenders can take on capital ships
I prefer the TIE Avenger
Love how rich Legends lore is.

Than you for finally telling me what TIE stands for. The rest of the video was really interesting too, but that was the most crucial fact for me.
Actually, the TIE Oppressor was not the first answer to the Y-Wing used by the Rebel Alliance. The TIE MFP was the first answer. Much like the Oppressor, the MFP was a starfighter-bomber hybrid ship that could destroy capital ships with its warhead launcher on the top of the ship between two cockpits and can fight against enemy fighter-to-fighter combat ships. This TIE also included shields and a hyperdrive along with its warhead launcher on top of the fighter and side guns underneath the front of the fighter. The rear cockpit was used for a gunner including a turbolaser turret to defend against enemy ships from behind

+Steven Chabot lmao lol
+Steven Chabot this is why is sooo awsome ;)
well even with todays tech..helmets have HUD's so they can know whats around them without proper ability to see..
And all the ships large and small magically glow in the blackness of deep space...Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the fantasy of it all, it's just confusing sometimes trying to figure where the sci ends and the fi begins.
The engine tech must generate its own small gravity field in order to be able to maneuver through space like they do..., hence why there is gravity in all starships.
I came up with a variant known as the TIE-MN
It was chiefly designed around using short-range senor imaging technology, and thus providing superior visibility tonthe pilot.

It's odd that TFA only had X-Wings and TIE Fighters, hopefully Episode VIII has some other types.
+Ross T I agree. The Poe Dameron comic has at least confirmed A-Wings are still around at that time. I'm sure we'll see more in the coming films.
I'm sure they will too :)
+Ross T Maybe they only used them because they wanted to make a more classic SW experience and most people are familiar with the TIE's and X-wings.
+André TM i don't think there will be "new" anything for the Resistance, as the movie took some time to point out that there were using junk and old stuff, A-wings, sure but unless they got themselves a rich backer it will be old school.
+Ross T but the Tie had way more weapons and could fire backwards ! which is kinda cool.... if you like tie fighters ...
Technically, the TIE boarding shuttle appeared in Episode IV. The Imperials used it to board Tantive IV after catching it in their hangar. The VIP transport was used by one of the captains in Episode V to transfer between ships. I think it was when he personally apologized to Vader and got choked.
I always loved the Tie Defender. It fulfilled the same niche as the B-Wing in Empire at War, but was so much better in lore
