  • Discover the diverse collection of TIE starfighters employed by the Galactic Empire across the Star Wars universe, including both the Legends and Canon universes. Get acquainted with approximately 30 unique types of TIE starfighters through 3D animations. #starwars
The Tie Fighter was first introduced in the 1977 movie, Star War A New Hope and was commonly used by the Empire to fight against the rebellion. There are several different variations of the Tie fighter including the Tie Bomber, TIE interceptor, Tie Defender, and the TIE Advanced X1 which was used by Darth Vader but in this episode, I just wanted to focus our attention on the standard Tie Fighter.
The backbone and workhorse of the Galactic Empire, the TIE fighter is identified with the Empire’s influence and power. TIE fighters are manufactured in massive numbers and are assigned to a pilot as an expendable asset, much like the pilots themselves. TIE fighters are considered tools for the Empire’s needs, and they were designed to be as efficient as possible for the job they do.
The standard TIE/LN model contains no deflector shields, hyperdrive, or life support system. For this reason, they have a much lower range of operation compared to other galactic space fighters and often need to be ferried into battle by other vessels, such as the menacing Imperial Star Destroyers, Gozanti class cruisers, or the Quasar Fire class carrier.
Here is a list of books and tools I have used to recreate these animations. (affiliate links)

There a a couple of main stream ties you forgot to mention.
The "Tie Reaper" it was used as a troop carrier in atmosphere and was piloted by two tie pilots. It also had shields and was used to deliver Death Troopers to the front line in Rogue One.
The second is the "Tie Boarding craft" this ship was used as a boarding craft to conduct searches on suspicious vessels. It had a similar shape to the Tie Bomber but instead of an ordinance pod it had a space to carry a boarding party. It was also missing the targeting computer and relied heavily on support from other ships to arrive. It was featured in Andor and has shown up a couple more times.

My favorite - and it's seen onscreen in the original trilogy, is the TIE/sh shuttle. You missed it. It's the same chassis as the bomber, but kitted out for transporting people, not bombs. It also lacks the sensor head hanging beneath the payload pod.
I'm also kind of fond of the TIE/fc Fire Control Tie... an electronic warfare variant of the TIE/ln, with the same sensor head as the TIE Bomber.
You also seem to have left out that, per several legends sources, the original TIE, which has only one chin blaster and slightly less speed and maneuverability than the TIE/ln "Line TIE" which you did show.

Well, my favorite TIE variant wasn't on this list. RIP TIE Aggressor...
(For anyone wondering, the TIE Aggressor was first introduced in a portrait in Star Wars: Galaxies. It's unknown whether it would have been eventually added to the game as a playable ship. The TIE Aggressor then went under the radar until being reintroduced in X-Wing Miniatures. Role-wise, the Tie Aggressor is comparable to a Y-wing, albeit more focused on anti-ship capabilities rather than ground attack making it more of an attack craft rather than a bomber - a bit like the real-world A-10, actually. It was a single-seater TIE fighter resembling a combination of both the TIE Advance X1 and TIE Advance V1, with a semi-automated turret on the back of the main hull.)

    • @cts_corey1119

so uh not to be a nerd or anything, the a-10 is designed for air-to-ground, not air-to-ship, and is considered a strike aircraft/close air support. (honestly though, you could probably hook up a few harpoons or SM-2s or SM-6s to an a-10 if you really wanted to. Plus the Gatling gun already does enough damage on its own to everything so it could be used for anti-ship.)

The TIE Silencer and the TIE Hunter do it for me.
These two are highly solid bets on just about every other fighter. They both have amazing speed, hyperdrives, shields, great armaments, and miscellaneous features (such as cloak and waterproofing, respectively), I would be very hard pressed to choose any other star fighters.
The Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor would be the next closest thing if I had to choose, and that's more of a TIE precursor.

      @grandadmiralzaarin4962 Před rokem

@@Lex36020 it's an incentive design but it has some serious flaws.
The cloak is the primary advantage the Phantom has but it takes a lot of power to run. As a result the cloak and weaponry can't operate at maximum efficiency at the same time, leaving the crew to choose one or the other or operate with lower powered shots to keep the cloak functioning. The Phantom lacks heavier ordnance to counter capital ships or deal with faster or more maneuverable craft. Further, while the cloak hid the Phantom itself, it didn't hide the origin point of or the path of the fired laser cannon bolts, that could allow enemies that survived the initial ambush to pinpoint the Phantom. Finally, while exceptional as an ambush or scout craft, the Phantom wasn't as maneuverable as most of the starfighters it would go up against.
The TIE Phantom would have been best utilized for tracking Rebel ships to their bases or fleet groups then calling the Imperial fleet in. Instead, Vader insisted they be used as Space superiority fighters and revealed their existence to the Rebellion before the project was remotely ready, leading to the loss of the entire operation.

The TIE is an excellent spacecraft.
Despite less guns, it fires more shots per minute than the Xwing (source: I slowed down the OT and watched frame by frame to see who shot more shots. X-wings fire 2 shots per frame when they were gunning, TIEs shot a max of 6).
It's faster and more maneuverable than an Xwing (capable of hovering and strafing side to side).
Shields at best stop one or two shots. With most fighters firing rapidly, they are not that big of an advantage. Look at Endor and Yavin, Rebel fighters get wrecked in a few shots all the time.
No life support: not an issue as your suit has life support. That means, no matter how damaged your ship, as long as you aren't hit you're still gonna breathe. You don't need to worry about your windshield being cracked or hull being breached.
No hyperdrive: fits imperial doctrine quite well. The Rebels need hyperdrives for their hit and run operations, as fighters are their main strike craft. The Empire used fighters to screen their capital ships and provide local defense, driving off enemy fighters. TIEs are excellent at this.
My theory for why the Xwing pilots tend to dominate is as follows: The Rebels have a lot less pilots, and a lot more targets. As such, the average Rebel pilot likely flies many more missions a lot more often than the average TIE pilot, who spends most his career seeing little to no action. As a result, the average Xwing pilots is likely more experienced in combat than the average Imperial.
Just thought of this and wanted to hear someone else's thoughts to validate the fact I wasted 3 hours on this.

I was also thinking TIE/AG Aggressor starfighter the one with a turret that sells for a lot for the X-wing 1.0 minis game. wookipedia says "Its specific role was a hybrid fighter/bomber. Like the TIE/IN interceptor or the TIE/sa bomber, and its pilots required more training. As such, it was noted as being a TIE fighter that was a combination of a fighter and a bomber, the craft saw limited use, and never really left the experimental phase". As it stands outstanding video!

Back in my day you'd watch a video like this and it would say some shit like "NUMBER 3. MAGMA TROOPER." and then they'd show a zoomed, cropped, pixelated af picture from the cover of an extended universe novel for a minute and a half straight while you listened to mainly speculation.
