    It’s a nice touch that the AT-M6 has cable-cutters on it’s legs, that one detail alone really conveys how the First Order has had to actually learn from the Empire’s mistakes, and actually makes it come across as believable redesign unlike a lot of the other First Order tech which just felt like an attempt to make it like the Empire but different. congrats to whichever concept artist put that detail in

      @purpleowlanimation just because the legs are a weakness does not mean tripping them was the common reason.

    Before anyone starts complaining about how the Empire and First Order just make every new walker bigger than the last, let's just remember that the Fallen Order / Rebels AT-AT is bigger than the Empire Strikes Back AT-AT; the AT-ST is smaller than the AT-DT from Solo, and the older AT-DP; and while the Juggernaut Tank is half the size of the AT-M6, it's twice its length; and the AT-ACT and SPHA-T are a similar height to the AT-M6 as well.

      @mitchellhayward6492 Před 4 lety +11

      @@jackrutledgegoembel5896 You'd be surprised how long military hardware tends to last, especially in the real world. By the 2040's, production of the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers will end after it started being produced in the late 80's. That'll be over 50 years of production. And who knows how long after that it will be before they even get phased out?
      Back to Star Wars though; by the Clone Wars, the Republic was basically already the Empire - just not in name. So I feel like seeing AT-AT's and Imperial-class Star Destroyers as such in the Republic military is a nice bit of foreshadowing, so long as at the time they are considered state-of-the-art and brand new; and uncommon, but already slated for mass-production.
      And yeah, the Sequels are rightly criticized for its lack of new and creative vehicle concepts. But at the same time, technologically, it's not unrealistic that they still used AT-AT's and TIE Fighters after all these years. Although I totally believe that the Sequel Trilogy's undoing was its lack of creativity and new ideas.

      @@orinanime That's pretty par for the course for Star Wars. I'm pretty sure the AT-ST first appears in ESB for all of five seconds total, ditto the AT-AP and AT-OT in RotS. In fact, that one picture for the AT-OT nearly it's ONLY appearance in the entire Canon. And it didn't get much more in Legends.

    • @orinanime

      @@damienhailey118 the AT-ST appearance in ESB doesn't matter because it shows up for the entire third act of ROTJ.
      The problem with the new designs is that they don't even get the ESB minute appearance.

      So... I find your attempt at comparison flawed.

    • @damienhailey118
      @damienhailey118 Před 4 lety

      @@orinanime I find your lack of understanding... Disturbing.
      My point is that a *lot* of the stuff in the movies Not just walkers, but ships, vehicles, people, only show up for a few seconds in the background. Then it gets re-used and fleshed the hell out in the Expanded Universe. I mean, look at Aurra Sing and Quinlan Vos, who only appeared as background extras in The Phantom Menace, but were major players in the Legends Expanded Universe. Look at B-Wing fighters. Remember the storm that flurried up from the use of the Blade Wing in Rebels? How they said the B-Wing shouldn't that big beam cannons? Even though the B-Wing *is never shown firing a shot* in Return of the Jedi?
      A lot of what we know about machines in the Star Wars saga is more secondhand than you think. The issue is that the mechanical designers can give use these weapons all they like, but it's up to the writers and directors to use them. I mean, I would have loved to have had a scene where Rey, Finn, and Poe had to fight off a UA-TT with it's hand crashing through walls to snap at them, or an NR-N99 Tank Droid fighting during the Clone Wars, or like I just mentioned, a B-Wing in actual action. I actually agree with your desire to see more of the vehicles of the game in action. I'm just saying it's not a new issue.
