So let's get this straight, the first three eras cover thousands of years, but the last 6 cover like 50 years
it might seemike this, but the thounsands of years before the high republic have their own eras that can be seen but those are to hadd to explain. Because there are the different sith wars and the different jedi schism as well as the Rakarta era could be defined as one little era. Even the diffrent sith Lords and Brotherhoods that ruled could be defined as an era in the old republic, and so on and so on.
The Definitions can be done in far smaller intervals in Legends that it is done in Canon
I would agree with @tony8051. We've had so many medias on those last 50 years that it was easy, or easier, to divide in 6 different eras. Maybe if we had more info on the first 3 we would have more than 9 eras.
I feel like LFL is staying out of the Old Republic era not to avoid confusion, but because they are utterly terrified of the diehard fans of that era that tend to be a little....unhinged.
Wait... we're not unhinged! We're very hinged! Mega hinged! (Just don't break the beautiful Old Republic)
Yeah, no. No smart company cares what a bunch of chronically online fans like you or I say. We are a smaller audience than we think.
Remember Terminator: Salvation? That movie’s ending was changed for the worse because the original leaked online and “fans” overreacted to it.
@@zen1647 They can't break it. The books, comics, and video games that came out in years past cannot be "broken" or undone. It will always exist in the (non-canon) form that it does today. That will never change no matter what LFL may do with that era.
@@Legomyegoorj I agree that diehards are a smaller audience than they think. For the record, I'm not one of the diehards of the Old Republic era. To me, LFL can do whatever they want with that era. But I do feel pretty strongly that LFL is aware of how passionate Old Republic fans are, and do not want any negative blowback from these people. LFL really wants a period of good publicity and positive buzz from fandom....as impossible as that may be to achieve today.
@@kyleroussel As Alex pointed out, TOR covers a very long period. I think they could do something around 15,000 BBY and not have it affect anything after 5,000 BBY.
The Old Republic is one of the most fascinating time periods for me
Hey I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. If anyone tells you that Jesus isn’t the only way, they are lying to you and they don’t care about your future.
Do u suggest old republic mobile game?
It's expected to be part of the canon timeline soon along with the Dawn of the Jedi
I love how succinct and no-nonsense your explainer videos are.

People keep saying they wish there were more stories that have nothing to do with the Skywalker saga, conveniently ignoring just how many stories there have been set outside that era, albeit in books and comics and the Legends EU. But finally, now we're getting a TV series and a movie (trilogy?) set in those far distant times. It's something that had to be introduced in careful steps (start with the familiar, test the waters, then introduce new elements that can be expanded upon), all they had to do was be patient.
Well I think a big thing is how Legends is now non-canon, but I definitely do wish to see more Canon shows/films set outside of the rebellion.
High Republic = dogshit.
They specifically in movies and TV shows. If you don't understand that subtext, then you're the dumb one
If Disney messed up the Skywalker saga then I expect nothing impressive from the new series Obi-wan was over hyped
I can't believe you dropped the Yuuzhan Vong almost being in TCW insight just like that,it was a bomb dropping for me! Now we need a video about it!
It was wild back then haha. One interesting thing from those notes was that George wanted them to lose their Force immunity if they were brought back to line up with everything else. Right now, it seems like the Grysk fill the same niche.
@@chaosfire321 Their Force immunity is one of the Yuuzhon's most intriguing features. I guess it's best they weren't used if they wouldn't have been portrayed properly.
There's an old video that he did that details what the plans would've been for Clone Wars Season 7 and 8. Very interesting stuff and a couppe of them have been used in the Bad Batch now

Alex really enjoyed this one. You can hear the joy in his voice as he shares his knowledge.
Thank you for being such a wonderful channel! It’s so lovely to have a page that focuses on lore and history rather than needing to result to click/rage-bait.
You guys have really outdone yourselves, excellent job 👍🏻
It would be kinda interesting if perhaps the nameless return in the New Jedi Order 👀
After reading Plaguis, I would love to see more stories set just before the Phantom Menace up through Attack of the Clones.
A film or TV adaptation of the book would be amazing.
Later this year there will be a new book written by John Jackson Miller that takes place Just one year before the Phantom Menace
recently listened to Plagueis, i completely agree. it was amazing to see how it slowly led up to TPM and then the last bit took place at the same time, showing how events were manipulated and interpreted by Palpatine and Plagueis, until finally, the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise happened.
Love to see all these era's laid out. Wouldn't be surprised if we got some new ones or existing ones demarcated some more. The window between the Dawn of the Jedi and the Old Republic might need some.
Also, hell yeah, SWTOR!
This is a great Fully Explained of Star Wars Eras. Thank you.
I love these star wars timeline videos they are so cool you guys do a great job May the Force be with you
But what about the Time before the Jedi? That big walker thing in Bad Batch is suggested to be even older than the Jedi.
And then there's the Time Before Time when the Great Spirit Mata Nui descended from the heavens carrying the Matoran to Aqua Magna, and instilling in them the Three Virtues of Unity, Duty, and Destiny. But that's a story for another time...
The walker is made by Zeffo or Rakatan. Either way, they are two opposite forces.
He unfortunately skip this part. In Short. After Rakatans learn how to use of force from Kwa (Dathomir). They start conquest of the galaxy. And they in fact did conquer the galaxy establishing Infinite Empire. They enslaved all known civilizations resulting with they loosing own past. Rakatans, who were only civilization having FTL warships. Fall after they were infected by mysterious virus what cut entire specie from The Force. As result cut pockets of they forces were overthrown and remains evacuated to they homeworld, where they stuck indefinitely. After this great reset, Republic attempted to reunify the world. Jedi were only ones who could use Rakatan ships, until Republic find a way to go around this issue and mass produced hyperdrive.
bruh are u referencing bionicle?
The Star Wars Eras Tour - I'm up for it
I'm really excited for dawn of the Jedi. All the mystical things can be an incredible story. Hopefully we will see more of Ahch-To, Jedha, Tython.
Don't forget Ilum. The world that houses kyber crystals.
It’s really nice seeing Star Wars:The Old Republic mentioned, you don’t really hear about it a lot
Yeah, it's a rich era of Star Wars legends that I'm sad doesn't get much coverage on the lore space here. Granted, I believe Alex was asked about it in a Q&A and he said he hasn't played the game to go into it.
@@chaosfire321 Oh, thats interesting! I assumed he didn’t cover it cause he talks almost exclusively about canon
@@chaosfire321Really? I’ve seen plenty of lore related to TOR, though much of it was uploaded when TOR was new/the main Star Wars thing going on besides Clone Wars.
Yea they haven't mangled that very much, yet
A nice timeline. An Old Republic movie exploring the Hundred Year Darkness would be awesome.
Im happy they finally officially outlined the timeline eras. Feels like something they shoulda done earlier, but better late than never.
The Old Republic also being added is also a good move considering how many wrongfully and stupidly thought The High Republic replaced it.
Pretty sure the Old Republic era existed in canon before then too. Dumbasses just ignored it even after all the messaging about the High Republic being it's own thing.
Great video,Alex. Super helpful when you need to get things sorted in your head and know how everything fits together 👍Love these sorts of videos
This is one of your best videos so far this year. You guys have really upped your game for 2024. I look forward to the rest!
Fantastic summary!!!
Nicely done on this, visuals are amazing!
I love this style of video please keep it up Alex
Great video, dude. 👌🏾
I really hope we get the Yuzzhan Vong/Grysk war at some point.
I have a question will you ever do a revamped version of the legends timeline I know it’s irrelevant now but the original video is a few years old and it’d be very nice to see an updated video with more in-depth retellings of events in he legends timeline
Another great video, Damons! 👍👍🤘🤘👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This channel has been my main go to for info on SW that I'm not caught up yet in Canon. Thank you for all that you do, Alex and Mollie! ☺️
And great of Disney and Lucasfilm to finally accept and use the B.B.Y. and A.B.Y. timeline designations.
Thank you, Alex! ⏳
I'm looking forward to seeing the High Republic expand to the live action side of Star Wars and eagerly waiting for us to get into the Old Republic era in Canon. I don't think the MMO has had any bearing on them not doing Canon stories in that era because the game has gotten a lot of content based on the recent shows on Disney+, more likely they just want to wait until they have an idea what their version of the era looks like before going all in, which I wish they would just do. I'm apprehensive about the Dawn of the Jedi movie. I think James Mangold is a great fit for Star Wars, I enjoyed Dial of Destiny but I'm worried putting such a concrete story on the discovery of the Force and the founding of the Jedi like a film would risks taking away the mysticism of the Jedi and the Force which is something I love and don't want to lose but I'm open to being surprised when the film finally is released. Same goes for the New Jedi Order, I'm really looking forward to that. The idea of the antagonistic party doesn't quite land for me, I hope it is something larger and a part of me will always be sad that Luke's Jedi Order failed badly, that feels like it really undercuts him but I am excited to see Rey's take when the film arrives.
I also wouldn't call the aldahni heist a "defining event" of the Rebellion era. I refuse to believe that people were more inspired by a backwater heist on a generic planet that could have been done by gangsters for Hutts as far as anyone knew, than a motivational speech heard across the galaxy from Lothal in Rebels. A heist does nothing but prove the Empire could be *robbed*, just because it can be robbed doesn't mean it can be defeated. I refuse to believe that the seeds of Rebellion were sown by something that did NOTHING for the populations crushed under Imperial rule.
As long as Disney does Star Wars it will suck.

In the series Andor the main character makes it a point to describe how easy the empire is to rob and hide from, the empire is founded by underhanded tactics and working with dirty double crossers. I agree that the rally for the rebels was a little poorly written
Great summary and timeline! I like how succinct SW can be
I'm glad killing Chewie off isn't canon!! They can't do that 😭😭
I say chewies story is mostly done. He still helps out Rey with the Falcon (Han did gave her the ship), but mostly he spends time with his family.
Im super excited about the dawn of the jedi and the old republic. Seeing certain episodes of the clone wars and a specific episode in the bad batch that had things dating to the old republic and even before the republic was a thing was so cool. I'm a history and lore nerd when it comes to universes like this.
A thought (or maybe a question for the next Q&A) - do they have a problem with "evolution of tech", in that there's quite a big difference between High Republic and OT-time in terms of how advanced and spread the Republic is? There's relatively little time in which a lot happens, and yet we get settings thousands of years earlier in which people (I'm guessing) use lightsabers and travel between the stars. It is what never really got me into the High Republic (though I'm going to give it another chance)... it felt very different (too different) despite timewise it really shouldn't, would've understood it better if it was Old Republic and things where that different.
I wouldn't say there's a big difference but they've been avoiding in going into the details to keep the mystery of the Nihil going.
They are trying to make the older eras look more ancient, from what I've heard. A big reason why Legends felt static was that KOTOR was intentionally designed to resemble the Star Wars galaxy from the movies rather than the Tales of the Jedi comics that initially started the era (very sandals-and-toga-esque, with empresses and metal blades etc.) because they were worried no one would recognize it otherwise.
@@chaosfire321 Thanks for the answer! But my "concern" about them overdoing it still stands, or will they move Dawn of the Jedi and Old Republic closer in time - as it would feel kind of weird to have Star Wars go basically "But no space travel, that's a few thousand years away"
very excited to visit the old/high republic era going forwards
I just hope The Acolyte is a good show like the Clone Wars and give a canon view of the high republic
Good video, almosts foreplay for the 4th of May...
Awesome video.
I do hope that the prime Jedi is a metaphorical figure. I still like to believe that since Tython was shown off in an episode of the Madalorian, Tython was the birth place of the Jeh’Di order which eventually become the Jedi order after the Jedi and Sith split. Eventually the Jedi settled on the Island of Oc’Tou and the Sith on Korriban which would later be renamed Moriban as we see in season 6 of TCW 2008 series. That’s my head canon for now.
I assume that Dawn of the Jedi takes place after the fall of the Rakatan Empire. There may be a few Rakatan force users around but they would be extremely rare.
The old expanded universe may not be canon anymore but it’s still a joy to go back and read some of it.
SWTOR and KOTOR are both amazing stories and shape some of my best memories of starwars
Seeing video titles like this gets me so exited. I love content like this and clicked right away
personly i love to see more star wars set between episode 6 and 7 and before episode 1
The movie im most excited for is the one about the dawn of the Jedi
I feel like Jedi Survivor should be one of the defining stories of High Republic, the main bad guy is literally a Fallen jedi from that era
You should’ve mentioned tanalorr when talking about the high republic
So much lore to cover.
I think they should simplify the names of the eras so i have come up with new names:
Inconceivably long time before Tallie
Super long time before Tallie
Very long time before Tallie
Long time before Tallie
Short time before Tallie
Time immediately before Tallie
Time with Tallie
And shes definitely 100% still alive so theres no need for another era name yet 😌
I love this content. It’s also like a little sample hit of the full canon timeline and I love that. Honorable mention to the switftie bit 😂
a little hint, "old republic logo" was on jedis masters during the clone wars series which is a neat touch
For me personally, this is not enough eras for over 25,000 years of galactic spanning history. I have come up with a custom timeline that fixes this problem and combines elements from both canon and legends.
Good for you
@@TheRealSkreegle Do you feel the same way as well?

I think it’s smart to have Eras so LucasFilm can tell stories across various formats in a specific era.
I agree
I’m ready for more lol
New Jedi Order, it feels like the Old Republic all over again
12:03 “ somehow palpatine returned, again”
I’d watch this video but it seems lately whenever I have a video of yours saved, whenever I go back to watch it the video appears to be deleted from the user. Any insight into this?
Probably Micky Mouse copyright striking the channel
I my opinion, looking at the timeline on a macro scale, everything from Fall of the Jedi to Rise of the First Order could be one era, marked by the re-emergence of the Sith and the struggles that occur because of it.
There should be a pre-jedi era where space travel is limited to the local system and force users are present but are not united in the Jedi order and it doesn't exist yet.
The Thrawn novels also hinted about a threat from another galaxy. I know they kind of eluded that it was the Grysk, but they also left it open that it could be something worse, aka the Vong.I wasn't the biggest fan of the books, but it would be interesting to have a new kind of villain, and not just another dark jedi or empire.
There was no hints of vong. There no mention of another galaxy in those books.
There should be a sort of Star Wars chronicles that tells stories in the outer rim systems. There should be more material for EU
Old Republic will hit different when we get those stories
For who don't know
Bby means before baby Yoda,
But It could be used as before battle of yavin I guess
I think the Grysk is taking the place of Yuzong vong in Canon
Are they not teaching this is schools?
I kinda wish the KoTOR and SWTOR-Stories would be included in the current canon, iirc they don't really contradict anything important and it would make things easier
I think that’s a big reason there hasn’t been new content in that era, it easily slots into the new continuity. My guess was they were waiting for the KOTOR remake but that’s been in development hell
Ehh, it really doesn't slot in that well now, especially with canon divergences like kyber crystals and bleeding. Plus, I've heard Lucasfilm wants to make the era more ancient looking rather than the "few years before the movies" look KOTOR and SWTOR went with.
@@chaosfire321 I don't really care if they canonize the look, but the stories itself feel like they could fit in pretty good. The differences in Kyber Crystals etc don't really feel like a bit hindrance tbh
Just to clarify... Humans and mandalorians are both from coruscant.
Humans won a war and kicked them out.
Gustavo fring in star wars 9:02 lol
I asked this on threads, but in case you dont see it I will ask it here as well. If Yoda was born between the end of the old republic, and the start of the high republic, what do you think he saw growing up. Given he would be ~500 at the start of the High republic he is essentially middle aged and should have been part of something
Where does the footage between 0:30 and 0:54 come from?
Those clips are from The Last Jedi. Except I think the desert-y clips were from Rogue One.
@@flamingbunnyrabbits Thanks!
I did not know Ashoka would be alive around adult Luke
I can see Disney breaking up the Old Republic into smaller eras when it's finally integrated into the canon
Yoda living through 4 phases 😮💨
I’m looking forward to The Acolyte as something wholly new for Star Wars.
The old republic was my character lives, Master Jedi Razielor aka hero of Republic aka The White Ghost!!!
Gifantic the video game is coming back on April 9th!!!!
R2D2 and C3PO will probably still appear in these new Films 😂
11:40 take your bets, what will this new new jedi order be
Disappointed we didn't get a trailer for The Acolyte last night. At least we got the Deadpool and Planet of the Apes one.
Dawn of the Jedi Era through Fall of the Old Republic Era = Pre-Prequel Trilogy Era
Republic Era = Prequel Trilogy Era
Imperial Era = Pre-Original Trilogy Era through Original Trilogy Era
New Republic Era = Post-Original Trilogy Era through Sequel Trilogy Era
New Jedi Order Era = Post-Sequel Trilogy Era
25000 year is crazy
@StarWarsExplained do you like the sequels and if you do please explain why?
Where are the High Republic animations from? Young Jedi Adventures?
They were from previews posted on the Star Wars CZcams channel.
I can't be the only one to think Fin becoming a Jedi would be the stupidest thing ever. You don't just decide to be force sensitive.
So there's a chance we could see Yoda in the Acolyte
Calling the back and forth between rebels and the empire around the original trilogy all different era's seems odd to me. I know its just the period of time we know the most details about since its been covered the most, but it just sounds like an "era or turmoil" or something.
You forgot to mention Star Wars outlaws or eclipse. That’s ok though
Age of rebellion and high republic respectively.
The Legends continuity had eras, too....
1. Pre-Republic Era: 13,000,000,000 BBY-25,053 BBY
2. Old Republic Era: 25,053 BBY-1,000 BBY
3. Rise of the Empire Era: 1,000 BBY-0 BBY
4. Rebellion Era: 0 ABY-5 ABY

Not to be *that guy* but it still feels weird to hear Rey called Palpatines granddaughter hahaha I just really fell in love with the "rey from nowhere" idea. No hate.
Great video. The only negative was no Molly.
I still think they can make swtor canon since it’s still getting updates but it might have to be a update leading into the old republic movie depending on when the movie takes place but can only hope for it to become canon
Can't really be slotted into canon since the timelines are diverging more overtime. I do appreciate SWTOR's worldbuilding though.
Star Wars explained if Anakin Skywalker, the prophesied, chosen one destined to bring balance to the force reached his true, full potential. He could run rival and control all eras of Star Wars. Forever, becoming immortal and eternal.
I just noticed there is a 500 year gap between the Old Republic and High Republic eras... hmm...
Ahsoka is not a Jedi Survivor, nor a Jedi. She left the order as Padawan to never return and to my knowledge never started one nor took a great big of a role in Luke's new order as seen in the Mandalorian.
