Is The Coldest Water Bottle Actually The Coldest?

  • I see a LOT of different types of sponsors being showcased by other creators. And this was one I didn’t know existed. The Coldest Water Bottle. Apparently, it’s a big thing in the Mukbang community. I don’t watch mukbang videos. So, I never heard of them. So I did what any reasonable person would do. I bought one. Is this actually the coldest water bottle?’

    7:51 Conclusions
The coldest water bottle comes in plenty of different colors and sizes but I picked up a 21 oz version. The Coldest water bottle is pretty basic shaped. Cause it’s, well. A water bottle. It has a painted stainless steel body with their branding very loudly and in big bold font “THE COLDEST WATER BOTTLE”. The main brand water bottles like a Hydro flask or a YETI do have their labels on the bottles but not as prominent as this one. The handle on top is solid, and doesn’t swing around like the flexible ones on hydro flasks and is more like the solid one on the YETI Rambler. The body of the bottle also has this rubber belt that keeps it from sliding around too much. But I found the rubber belt doesn’t have too much resistance and easily slides if you try to take it off, and will most likely get less stretchy over time. One thing that I noticed about this water bottle, is that the lid is a little bit harder to get into its proper place before tightening it. I know I know. You’re thinking that’s the biggest first world problem ever. You’re absolutely correct. I’m just reviewing the product so I thought I’d provide as much detail a water bottle review could give that might be of interest. And how quickly you can get the cap on seems pretty important to me. They also have a bunch of different accessories for their water bottles similar to what a YETI or Hydroflask has for their bottles.
Okay, great we now know how the product looks and feels, but how well does it do its job that it proudly announces? I decided to compare it to its competition and I’ll try to add links to all the water bottles down below. Here’s how I went about comparing them. I filled them all up with about 75% ice. How did that test go? The first day was super-uneventful. Each water bottle managed to still have ice. It wasn’t until 31 hours in, that I noticed both the Hydroflask and the Yeti were the first to go, and were both 42F. That’s no longer super cold. Just cool. Then, I didn’t really measure the temperature again until the next bottle melted all of its ice. The Linus Tech Tips water bottle, 55 hours in it was 37F and melted all of its ice. Which makes you think “hey middle of the pack isn’t that great of a score”. Well, in this case it kind of is, because only 3 hours later, at 58 hours. The Coldest Water bottle no longer had ice. So that left only the Zojirushi, which lost all of its ice 3 hours later at 61 hours.
So, is the Coldest water bottle the coldest water bottle? No. So, okay, we know the coldest water bottle is near the top of the food chain when it comes to keeping things cold, but how well does it do with hot drinks?
So here’s the test. I filled them all full of hot water I can get from the sink and measured their temps, then I went to bed and checked their temperature in the morning. These results were very similar to what we saw with the cold water test. The Zoshiroshi and Coldest Water bottle stayed the warmest, with the LTT one slightly lagging behind, followed by the hydroflask, and the yeti was the coolest.
So what’s the main takeaway of all this? This is a good water bottle if you’re trying to keep things hot or cold. It doesn’t live up to its name and the lid is a bit finicky but overall the bottle does pretty good. I just personally wouldn’t want to rock this water bottle because I hate loud obnoxious branding, but you know that’s just my own tastes and you can feel free to disagree with that.

Vessis are trash. Speaking as someone that's received a free pair (worked for a sponsored channel) and knows someone that bought a white pair.
While the idea isn't too different from Goretex, but...
They're not durable, the sole disintegrates insanely quickly (I have 5-year-old Nikes that still look good) They're difficult to clean and stain super easily and they're not breathable, or rather, they keep your feet too warm regardless of the weather.
The elasticity is nice and it doesn't feel particularly awkward to wear, though they look pretty long due to their design, just man it's just not worth the price of a decent pair of runners.

Another issue with water bottles that has a cap and isn't secured to the bottle is that you may leave it open(since people get lazy) then knock over the bottle or the cap on the dirty floor. Or you have to use both hands to drink the bottle, one to hold the cap, one to drink.

There are different sizes, but no they don’t have hide bottles. I did a lot of research before purchasing one and for the features I wanted (including the sip mechanism and ability to lock it and avoid spilling) it had the best ratings. I highly recommend them. I also have s’well bottles and I’m looking into trying their new sport cap which enables you to drink without having to remove the cap. I'm not surprised the Yeti didn't do so well. You said it was heavy and felt properly built. I imagine that there are structures withing the bottle to keep it stiff, which most likely would be a great heat transfer medium. After a year or so of use of my 4th one, it suddenly started to not keep things cool at all, like it was just sitting in a cup, maybe a seal broke. Anyways, I watch freakin reviews and he tested this and that’s what I went with. I got it about a month and a half ago. I absolutely love it. It is great, keeps things cooler longer than my previous ones even at their peak. The thing I like about this is that if I don’t add ice, or my ice melts and I don’t drink my water for a while after, the water had still been cool for me. I like that a lot. In my previous, even though it kept cool a long time with ice, once the ice was gone it warmed up a lot. I love this waterbottle. I use it EVERY day at work and school as well as my other tasks. I think this was very good information for most normals. I only use a water bottle when I volunteer with Little League Baseball and Softball to umpire. A number of studies tell you when you exercise that you should not drink cold, or ice cold water. They some say it's better for your body/health to drink room temperature or the temperature it is outside that you're in while you exercise. The only thing I can tell you is that when I am behind the plate on a hot day it is less of a shock when it is at ambient temperature. Whatever works for you.

Hey Jimmy, did you check the info on the bottles' websites? I have a Contigo AutoSeal and their website states you shouldn't put hot or carbonated stuff in it. I figure it might be due to dilation or and some bottles have layers of materials that could dissolve in water if it's too hot. I know next to nothing about chemistry or water bottles, but that kinda scared me into only keeping cold water on mine.

  • @Kesslerification

Really good review as always, but I'm kind of disappointed you didn't talk about how the actual spouts/tops work. You spent a whole lot of time talking about how cold they can be (duh, it's the title, I know) and how easy it was to screw on, but you didn't say what they're like to use day-to-day. I didn't even know the Yeti had such a small drinking tube until one small B roll shot of you putting the top back on.
I get that it's not something you can make an objective statement on (people will prefer bigger or smaller for different reasons), but one of the strengths of your channel is that you'll tell us your opinion, state that it's your opinion and give your own reasons for liking something.
Your unique opinions, content and presentation style is what keeps me coming back, I'd have been very happy for this video to be 1/3 longer than it was and get even more information from you! (Plus it would push you over the coveted 10 minute mark which I notice you frequently duck under because it's obvious you care more about making good, efficient content than you do about pushing for that sweet sweet CZcams money)
Keep at it, you get better with every video!

Also, things you did not mention, the bottles float... no matter the size. THAT'S what that blue rubber thing is for. I took mine in the river and even full, they float. Also you can buy the top with the flip up spout which takes care of the "taking the top off " issue. Oh and I left ice in mine for a week.. yes a week and it barely melted.

One inaccuracy with your hot water test - hotter things tend to cool faster, so the fact that all the bottles were not at the same temperature leads to major inaccuracies. This is especially obvious when you realize that the 113F was the best with only -9F and the 119F was the worst with -26F.

My first bottle was purchased when they were in their original office/warehouse in Naples, FL & one of the owners answered the emails. I swear by their products 100%

I have had one of the Coldest Water bottles for about two years along with a tumbler and cleaning accessories.
My problem is how does one get a drink from it without either turning into a vacuum pump or cracking the cap open a bit to vent it.
I don't think this is indicative of the product however, I doubt that I an the only one having this difficulty. It would be nice to get a drink of fluid without passing out or having to crack the lid which, inevitable leads to it leaking onto something as I either forget to retighten it or get tired of doing it if I am using it frequently.
Hence, I am hoping you or anyone else can explain to me what is going wrong.
    Thanks,
    Rick

For me, all of these bottles would be fine... since there is no way I'll be leaving a drink in them for potentially 2 days.
Maybe if I was going camping or something... but in that case, I'd be taking a cooler with me to keep the drinks in.
I guess what I would want to know, is how well do outside of room temperature.
Will a cold drink stay cold if the bottle is left in sun light? Will it stay cool in a building that has the heat cranked well above comfortable?
Will a hot drink stay hot if left in a cold lunchroom? What if I left it sitting outside in the winter while I was chopping firewood?

That Zojurushi is the only bottle that's actually one hand usable on that lineup. I don't need a handle, I put my water bottle in a cup holder or on my desk. Much nicer, I think, to be able to open and close it with one hand so you can sip while using a mouse or while driving.

I absolutely love what you are doing with this channel but I'm pretty sure there are a great number of flaws with these tests like not recording ambient temps or accounting for size difference I know you addressed that in the video but maybe a pinned comment too, either way, I loved the video just wouldn't make a purchasing decision based on the results

    • @TheJunky228
      @TheJunky228 Před 3 lety

the difference in what volume they might hold would definitely be important. in terms of comparing them to eachother, like in this test, unless he kept them in different rooms, they'd all be subject to the same ambient temperature so it wouldn't make a difference.

The LTT one did better than I expected. I always thought it seemed hideously expensive, but then, with all the others being about the same price, I guess insulated water bottles are just oddly expensive for some reason, or I'm cheap. IF I was buying one of those it'd not be The Coldest one though, simple cuz it looks kinda crap, the font they've used looks too default for one thing.
