So, what did all of you guys think of Blaze as a character? Do you agree with me? Disagree? Leave comments below as I do my best to read and respond to as many as possible! As always, thanks for watching the video!
Update: Many people are asking why I haven't spoken about Blaze in the Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog game, and the simple answer is that I still have not played the game. I haven't had the chance. But I do plan to play it for a video, as well as give it a dedicated analysis video.
I also just wanted to say that I, along with many other Sonictuber's, made a special appearance in AceCardGaming's latest video. So why not go and check that out after you've watched this? It will be worth it. Link: czcams.com/video/TZZYeK9a4uk/video.html

That's the thing with phobias. A phobia is a powerful, _irrational_ fear of something. Even if you _know_ you're not in danger, you can't help but be afraid of it. Blaze's acrophobia is strong enough that her ability to fly can't just negate it.

One more thing to note about the idw comics is that in the 2022 annual, we actually get an interation between blaze and knuckles. And this interaction is frankly one of the best conversations in the comic run, as blaze opens up to knuckles about her conflictions with bieng the guardian of the sol emeralds. And knuckles, with all of his experience dealing with the master emerald, comforts her by showing that all of her work to defend her deminsion really does pay off, and that she should take some time for rest every now and then. The art is absolutely beautiful and the dialogue is yet another reason as to why I absolutely love this era of Ian Flynn writing.

Blaze is in my opinion the best female Sonic character. Excluding the Archie/DiC universe characters, she is the first tomboy, a princess, no less, in the series, which makes her probably inspired by Sally Acorn, and she was also Daisy's counterpart in the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games series. Her debut in the Sonic Rush games really gave quite an impression as she was shown to be a badass who takes no guff from the likes of Eggman and Eggman Nega, and her going toe to toe with Sonic in the Dead Line boss fight really demonstrates that she's a very strong and skilled fighter. That said, I really hated what Sega did to Blaze cause she wasn't just underutilised, she was reduced to being a background character and having even less backbone than Amy, and I think a lot of that has to do with Sonic 06, because since that game, she's only seen as just another typical Sonic girl, and being Silver's "sidekick," and I use that term loosely, because it opens up so many plotholes like how they even met when she is from the Sol Dimension while Silver is from the future of Sonic's world, and putting them together almost every time in post games opens up the can of worms of whether 06 really happened or not. Some may theorise that the events of 06 took place before Sonic Rush, but I don't buy that, and retconning Eggman Nega to make him be from Silver's timeline really felt like a cop-out to explain Silver and Blaze's "friendship," which serves as no other purpose than to pander to the Silvaze shippers, who are really just a small fringe in the Sonic fandom. No offense to anyone who has no problem with Silver and Blaze as just friends, but either way, everything behind it just makes their interactions feel so forced and it overshadowed Blaze's other meaningful friendships with Sonic, Cream, and even Marine. All in all, Blaze is a character with so much potential, but was done dirty thanks to Sega's poor business practices and decisions and an obnoxious vocal minority who only want to see romance.

Thus they took what they had and salvaged what could possibly be used for Sonic. The team wanted to do an ambitious story but development went from bad to worse at every turn of events. And that's even before the team got cut in half so they could make a game to release on the Wii.

Characters like Blaze and even Silver are characters that I have a problem with, not because they are not good characters, but it’s the fact that we rarely get to see them. Blaze is a princess from another dimension and Silver is from the future so it’s difficult to logically bring them into the story. I know that Silver was in Forces and his character got misrepresented there, but since that isn’t near the misrepresentation characters like Shadow or Tails had in the past couple years, he’s still salvageable (that feels like a weird way to say). And Blaze’s character hasn’t been ruined, but it’s hard to bring them into a story due to them being separated to such a large degree from the rest of the cast. I do love the characters, but I just hope that they do have more prominent roles in future games.

I think that's possibly the best explanation - if you look at the cutscenes you'll notice that no one ever interacts with her except Silver. everything she does is to help Silver, she's only there to act as his moral guidance and she's a lot more emotionally mature if that's the right term, she's just not the same character. obviously this wasn't their intention, it was just bad writing, but it's a good retroactive justification at least

What annoys me the most is that it contradicts their personalities (In SA1, Amy promised to help all the people she could without the need to call Sonic for help, that is, to be independent, while in the game she continues with that joke "if you need help, call Sonic!". And Knuckles shouldn't be on earth to begin with)

I personally think that the confusion in Sonic Generations is that Blaze is from the Sol Dimension, but gets back the memories of an alternate timeline when it collides with the current one. I also believe that this is how Silver was pulled into the main timeline after he was erased in 06. He was pulled in because he had a battle with Sonic that the Time Eater felt like revisiting and so screwed with the timeline even more, which unintentionally reminded Blaze of her experiences in this alternate timeline, kind of like post-super genesis wave Archie Sonic.

Ironically I think the whole Sonic getting sent to the Sol Dimension and losing his memories after he used a major power source could actually be some set up to the whole 06 Origin theory you mentioned. Perhaps because it’s a separate dimension, Blaze wasn’t completely affected by the time reset and only lost her memories which would allow her to start to remember crisis city in generations while still being the Sol Princess.

At least she’s still relevant in IDW. There’s even a short story where she goes to Knuckles for advice since she knows that he has a similar job to hers. Maybe now with SEGA becoming more experimental again, she’ll return in a future game.

I’m enjoying what they’re doing with her in the IDW run at the moment, although I’m several issues behind, like how she decided to go to Cream’s house on free time to just talk and hangout.

Missed Opportunity to call the Sonic '06 Sacrifice of Blaze as "Schrodinger's Cat", since due to writing and logic, we can assume these are two different Canons/Interpretations of the same character.
If Silver would successfully seal Blaze with Iblis Trigger into another dimension, she would experience time differently due to relativity...
    Time is **Relative**
She would persist forward, yet everyone else would be stuck in the past, in Cycle Of Solaris...
The Cycle of Solaris eventually is broken, the events get retconned, **but here is a catch**
    It did happen, **Once**
There are at least two options:
    >>>We could accept that it happened in the past, Blaze perishes within _one timeline and dimension_ , Solaris is defeated, and since events never happen, She lives. Valid
    Or giant *IF* condition:
    >>>Silver is successful, Blaze is transferred, her continuity... continues on to the future. Solaris is defeated, her sacrifice is undone, She lives...
...AND she still alive in another dimension. Cat is ded and alive, then Alive/Alive.
    That is a PARADOX
It doesn't mean her origin story, it means TWO CANON VERSIONS.
Sonic Rush Blaze is her own story and experiences, and Sonic '06 can't change that
Just like Sonic Rush doesn't have any impact on Sonic '06 Blaze as a character
Sir Percival is her own Arthurian equivalent with no impact to others, only to Sonic.
Now the question would be, _how would existence of Ignis Blaze impact the future of modern Sonic canon?_
Ignis Scintilla ---> The Inciting Incident before a dumbster-fire

I played Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure when I was a lot younger and enjoyed Blaze for basically standing shoulder to shoulder with Sonic in those games. She had to grow in the first game but definitely proved herself and gets a sick transformation sequence that holds up today. And it was cathartic to finally see her show up kind of out of nowhere in Rush Adventure when most were waiting for her to appear, since she's in the opening of the game and everything. Not to mention she immediately reaffirms that she's as capable as Sonic, and from then on you can select her at the start of every level. Though when I played these games as a kid, I think I still stuck with Sonic the whole game through.
My perspective has shifted as i got older and since revisiting both Rush games last year, and playing them again this year, I can firmly say Blaze is my favorite Sonic character. i picked her all throughout my playtime in Rush Adventure once I could play as her. She feels so well-realized in both of her games (thankfully I never suffered through Sonic 06 only to have her character sidelined until the very end) . Blaze was probably one of the first depictions I saw in a game of a female character being equally competent as the "male default". That wasn't really the norm back in the early 2000's, so I'd say it was fairly commendable to see a strong and flawed female character go through a satisfying character arc and maintain relevance over the course of two games, Sonic games on the DS, of all things. The game doesn't have to draw specific attention to the fact that Blaze is a girl, either, she's just Blaze the Cat doing her thing, and I love that.
So bring her back Sonic Team! Let her actually do stuff again like she used to, even just for one game.

I for one would love to see a Sonic Rush 3 or a spin off game starring Blaze! At least Blaze was well portrayed in the IDW comics, and she even had empathetic bonding with Knuckles, who guards a powerful treasure like she does.
I would be stupid excited if I saw Blaze in a post credits scene in the Sonic 3 movie, and have her be in the fourth film voiced by Mae Whitman (Katara and Amity Blight). In the Sonic cinematic universe, I could be Blaze ending up on Earth yearning to cure herself from her fire powers. *Fixing Rush scenes:*
I just imagine a scene from Cream introducing Blaze to Amy and, desperate, the kid says that Amy must look for Sonic to resolve this conflict that could basically destroy the Earth. Amy, in the role of the older sister (as in Heroes), tells Cream not to worry, that everything will be fine and that together they'll solve it out, adding that they won't look for Sonic, saying to herself "No, I'm not going to look for Sonic, maybe I'm too weak and need him, but I want to solve this problem by myself. as I promised (SA1)" She would also be somewhat hostile when seeing Blaze, thinking that she might be a threat, but then she would understand Blaze, and tells her to let her help, but she refuses (lots of creative scenes can come from that).
In the case of Knuckles, again, he should be on Angel Island, maybe a scene of Knuck could be shown worried because he felt the presence of emerald energy on the ground and that's why he went down, but I still think no, he shouldn't be there. Instead of him another character could appear, what do I know? Why not Espio? The idea sounds stupid, however if you think about it, there are parallel characteristics in those two characters (they spin when jumping, they are fast, they are serious, and much more) and it could form some fun interactions. Espio would meet up with Cream and he would explain that the rest of the team went on vacation and he is seeing new challenges for himself. He then meets Blaze and he explains the importance of teamwork etc. There would even be funny scenes like Blaze getting hostile towards Espio and he uses his sarcasm to tease or humiliate her (as a joke, but not over the top either, and he does it on purpose to calm Blaze down and because, obviously, defense is needed)and Blaze would get even angrier (that would also make her think about the value of tolerance and that there are friends of all personality types).
See the crazy ideas that can be done with Sonic's friends?

Nah… it wasn’t so much with her being “forgotten”, it’s the fact that 2006 was the game that DESTROYED her, 100%.
Aside from being completely worthless to Silver and the story as a whole, she was completely devoid of any personality. She goes from a badass introverted princess to a soulless mentor figure. She was SO worthless in 06, even the writers wrote her out before the final story.
The worst part is that she could’ve easily had Elise’s role (and done it better). 06 was LITERALLY meant to reboot the franchise for fucks sake! Why make a human princess who has a latent flame in her soul, struggles with her duties, is introverted as hell, and has the her kingdom called “SOLeanna”, when Blaze is RIGHT FUCKING THERE?!
Having her in Sonic 06 means they had to rewrite her anyway which only rubs even more salt to the wound.
In fact, they fuck this character HARD, in 3D.
Even if she played fine in 06, she only had 2 small sections and one stage In the beginning of Silver’s story.
She got reduced to 1 section in Very Hard Mode, and while she gets 2 sections in Team Attack Amigo, that was Xbox 360 exclusive.
Sonic and the Black Knight, everything about her in that game was slow and clunky from her Fire Spin, double jump, and air lunge… plus her canonical stage “The Cauldron” is ASS!
You think you had it bad with Tails being scared, Knuckles being an idiot, or Shadow being arrogant as hell, us Blaze fans have it WAY worse, because outside of the Rush Duo-logy, she got screwed in the ass in the only two 3D games she was ever in (just the campaign).

In my head it went like this: The Sol emeralds sensed some type of "danger" in sonics dimension & wanted to stop it. I believe there R other instances but the Sol/Chaos emeralds R both shown/implied in Rush Adventure to have a "will" of some kind of their own. Blaze has a similar connection to the sol emeralds as knuckles does the M.E. since she is their "guardian". The Sol emeralds felt it necessary to help deal wit this & so told Blaze & as showcased in other games & IDW attempted to transport blaze to sonics dimension as that is somethin they can do freely. This is where some of my own conjecture comes in & cus of how unclear 06 makes things(since it wasn't finished) it could be diff for others, but somethin(I assume mephiles personally cus of his abilities) tampered wit the transport midway & caused blaze to end up in the future on accident & made her lose her memories(this is def a big "my conjecture" part lol). She meets silver & they grow a bond fightin iblis as she learns bout the world wit only a few of her memories retained(or even attained after lol). The rest of the story goes bout the same & she either A. is sent to another dimension or b. dies by the end(idrk but it's not like this part matters much) & everythin gets reset to be (mostly) non-existent. This is y when she hears of a "blue hedgehog" she seems more oddly curious as if "that sounds familiar but idk y" & she never acts as tho she's in any way familiar wit Sonics present time or himself. Granted she's in a VERY diff location than in the 1st Rush & sonic never acts familiar either when she's right there in some cutscenes but this jus goes to show how unfinished the game is in so many ways regardless of whether or not I'm right cus it's all so unclear in the end & they've never gone back to explain. Tho I'm unsure if the sol emeralds can also deal in space-time like the chaos emeralds even if they're a dimensional counterpart cus it's never been a thing in any media (not necessarily canon but) related to the main sonic timeline whether it be stuff like Rush or IDW which is y I brought mephiles tamperin instead tho both could be true now that I think bout it lol.

I just realised flanderization is quite common in Sonic media.
    Tails: Help me Sonic!
    Amy: I love Sonic!
    Eggman: I hate Sonic!
    Shadow: I'm better than Sonic!
    Knuckles: Master Emerald!
Meanwhile Blaze is the last person I'd expect to have this, since her cold princessy attitude can't really be simplified to a single trait. Flanderization for Blaze would probably be her leaning more towards her high and mighty holier than thou royal status, which just doesn't fit for her.

Blaze is hands down one of the best Sonic characters ever. Also a fantastic female character too. There’s so much to love about her and what makes her so great. I hope she (and the others) become playable again without the character assassination. She is deserves her own spin-off games. Give her Rush gameplay and set the game in the Sol dimension where there’s a lot of creative potential. She’s a hero like Sonic but in her own way. A lot of the characters deserve better but it looks like that’s going to take time. The success of Frontiers gives us some hope.

I massively disagree with Blaze being the least ruined of the colors era. I'd argue that of all the sonic characters that got fucked over, I think Blaze is the most tragic of them all. Say what you want about Tails, Shadow or Knuckles of how utterly clowned they are in the portrayals nowadays, at least they still matter to Sega/Sonic Team, at least they still have some relevance at least they had a time to shine.
But Blaze? How much does she matter to them now? She was a character that I always felt like was destined to be mascot tier. A big female rep that matches Sonic and Shadow of appeal, relevance, spotlight and importance, or the other front line protagonist. She has the speedy powers gameplay, is royalty and has a kingdom supposedly, has her own universe to explore, her own version the Chaos Emeralds and a Super Form??? What are the chances of a Sonic character getting the latter??? That's like asking for an entire spin off franchise to be formed akin to Wario to Mario
All of that promise to be completely thrown into oblivion because of one big main series game (06) that:
    A. EVERYONE will be locking their attention to, compared to a handheld game that isn't Pokémon.
    B. Pretty much saps away so much of what made Blaze so cool and appealing, and also making her presence and story a Schrodinger's cat shitshow for no reason. Lowkey feels like she was never even supposed to be in the game in the first place and just shoved in there for character quota at the last minute.
And C. Ended up being a disaster, and for Sega to take many wrong lessons from it too e.g. "sonic stupid friends". Where Blaze ends up being a character that just....sorta exists, nothing more than a spinoff slot filler.

She needs her own game. We have a whole new dimension that actually has ties to her. Plus, i feel like out of all the side characters, she deserves her own game the most. Especially considering she can be considered another version of Sonic and Knuckles.
By that account, Knuckles deserves his own game too, but he got his own acknowledgement in a plethora of games.

I imagine the reason for her appearance in Generations is because of her friendship with Sonic, though she could definitely have used a bit more of an active role. As for the inconsistencies, I think I can give a logical reasoning. Blaze was always from the Sol dimension, but travelled to the future of the Chaos dimension, meeting Silver there, and stuck around with him for a while, though this is still spitting on Blaze's character's boots, seeing as though she's not one to shirk her duties.

Look at Metal: There was a time he sat out a few years, and now he's pretty much always around, but as nothing more than a glorified attack dog that should be traded out for any other badnik. Blaze is honestly blessed to have made it through the years largely intact.

Metal Sonic was a huge race battle in Sonic CD & appeared in hologram form in every past stage. He was the final boss of Knuckles Chaotix, was the Penultimate Boss of Sonic the Fighters which even gave him a new form, was the focus of Sonic OVA, & was even fought in Triple Trouble. He was also raced to unlock in Sonic R along with 3 other Robot doupelgangers after finishining in at least 3rd after gathering all 5 Sonic Tokens in a single race, Resort Island in his case. He was a playable racer in Drift 2 from the start & that was just what he did in the 90s before being a cameo in Sonic Adventure.
If you played Sonic 1&2 for Genesis you'll recognize Eggman almost always being fought piloting something, at least Sonic 2 (8-bit) & 3K had him delegate random robots he built as the normal. Metal Sonic was always supposed to fulfill the Doppelganger rival role of course the only game where he abuses his presence is Sonic 4 Ep2. Metal Sonic turning into a kaiju in Heroes wasn't even the 1st time he did that with Team Chaotix originating from that game where Metal turned into the massive Red Metal Sonic Kai. Trust me Metal Sonic remains intact after all these years with the 2000s being the decade he was probably least used although at least you could play as him in Adventure 2's 2P Battles.

Forces is by far the worst case of that, considering he's narratively as worthless as the other phantom villains. Again, Metal needs a vacation, and literally any of the dozen other robo-Sonics need to take over for a bit. Mecha Sonic made a bit of a comic comeback, and he was better in it than Metal's been in years.

@@Umbra_Ursus Which 4 games? CD, Knuckles Chaotix, Sonic the Fighters, & Sonic Heroes? Metal Sonic actually had his role extended in Triple Trouble 16-Bit even though it's a fangame & technically Metal became Mecha in SMBZ. Back to official games in the 2000s Metal Sonic was the Final Round Opponent in Pinball Party's Tournament, & had a significant role in Rivals 2, as well as being added as playable in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Crossover.
You could argue Eggman needed the same as he was the main villain in most of the 2010s games, yet he got the break he needed in Frontiers which didn't feature Metal Sonic. Back in the 2000s we had a large cast of villains (Eggman Nega, Black Doom, Mephiles, Captain Whisker, Erazor Djinn, & Merlina) & I'm all for bringing back Captain Whisker or Mecha Knuckles, or even the unused Sonic Robot from Adventure. An upcoming game is bringing back Fang the Sniper!

Pretty sure that's what lead to '06 being the mess it was. Side games are... I mean, yeah, can be fun, but not much point in counting crossover things that're purely for fun.
And yes, those 4. I'd probably tack on whichever Free Riders had him get his rematch with Sonic, and Rivals 2 for having a mostly wasted team up with Shadow, but those were kinda shrimpy next to the others. For reference, shining moments by my count are ones that make use of Metal as himself: Triple Trouble? No idea why he was there. Rivals 1? Wasn't he just a glorified minion? Boom? Again, why not just use another robot if he's just gonna be an attack dog? Forces is bad all-round, but again, using Mecha or even Rocket Metal would have made more sense.
And well I agree Robotnik needs a serious break, unlike Metal, he's at least kept up his personality of being a bombastic egomaniac. Metal's at the point where there's no reason to keep using him over a generic badnik.

@@Umbra_Ursus Metal Sonic fits "The Dragon" trope usually & technically Rocket Metal is an underutilized form of his that we only see in the cutscenes of Sonic the Fighters, & the unused fighter data he has. I'm all for seeing the Rocket Metal form get used again same for Neo Metal who was 1st named in 1 of the Rivals games. Heroes called him Mystery Monster until he was confirmed as "Metal Sonic" in the Last Story.
Metal Sonic's heavy usage during the 2010s comes from him being part of the Classic Crew mainstays of the series like Team Sonic, Amy Rose, & Eggman. He was the Classic Era Rival Boss in Generations for good reason he's just that iconic! The early 2000s made an attempt to replace Metal with Shadow while upgrading Metal into an Eggman replacement although it didn't work. Eggman Nega was then created to be a much more sinister Eggman who doesn't raise chao in his spare time.
While I will grant the Hardboiled Heavies were special & worthy of returning, generic badniks don't have the charisma to replace Metal Sonic. Does anyone take Scratch or Grounder as competent opponents for Sonic & his friends? Archie Comics & its related animated series had Snively, however despite the chances he was given he just wasn't that popular. He was easily outshone by other comic villains who Sega can't use for legal reasons.
I would greatly enjoy to see 2P Shadow Androids, Mecha Knuckles, & Mecha Sonic return although Sonic Team just wants to play it safe with Metal Sonic. I always hoped for more of Sonic's friends to get robot counterparts although Just Sonic takes away the impact from that. I'm not sure if you remember the days of E-Series Robots being monsters of the week, although those felt a step above mere Badniks.

Potential badage for the canon contradicts:
More than one Blaze. Rush Blaze is post-06 not despite the reset, but because of. And her memories are a bit scrambley because the reset was Less Than Perfect, partly because of the fact her non-06 life shoved her into Sol dimension, which screwed with time in a few ways itself, and partly because in the retconned 06 canon she died, and reality isn't 100% sure on how to handle a Dead's Deathing becoming decanonized even in most ideal circumstances, which Blaze is Not.

Blaze is definitely somewhere in my top 5 characters. I really enjoy her arc in Sonic Rush. I'm very mixed on her inclusion in 06. I do mostly like how she's portrayed. My main issue is that she isn't suspicious of Mephiles. People give poor Silver undeserved grief for falling for his deceit, but hardly anyone talks about Blaze, the one shown to be more level-headed, doesn't suspect a thing. I know she wanted the future to be fixed as much as Silver did, but that just felt out of character for her. I haven't played Rush Adventure yet, but I like her portrayal there from what I've seen in videos. She's been getting some attention this year with her inclusion in The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog and her first action figure in a decade. I sure hope this means they plan to include her in future games. From what I've heard, Frontiers' ending left it open for less utilized characters like her to possibly show up in future games.

A theory I adhere to when talking about Blaze between 06 and Rush is that 06 does come before Rush, and Blaze does sacrifice herself by sealing herself in another dimension, but since the main world was retconned by the ending of 06, Iblis gets erased, leaving Blaze alone in the Sol Dimension. Since she's from the other dimension (where the mainline Sonic games take place, I'll call it Main Dimension), she is affected by the timeline reset, and forgets everything that happened in the Main Dimension, leaving her trapped in the Sol Dimension. Here's when things become more headcanon rather than anything else, but I like to think, that her pyrokinetics were a result of having Iblis trapped inside of her, and being sent to the Sol Dimension. Since she arrived at the Sol Dimension WITH her powers, that was her "default state" there. Since Iblis got erased, she was "changed" in that dimension, which tried to correct that change. If the Sol Dimension actually changed as a result of that, you could have your cake (make 06 the actual backstory) and eat it (make Rush canon as well).
That's what I think 06 was trying to do, and it kinda came out wrong because of what happened with that game.
    Good luck reading this lol.

My interpretation of Blaze being both in the future and the Sol dimension is the following:
-Blaze is part of the future
    -06's events happen
-Blaze "absorbs" Iblis and is, indeed, sent to another dimension, that is the Sol dimension or what the Sol dimension was at that time
-The "reset" of erasing Solaris happens, so Iblis doesn't exist and any event with them didn't matter
-Blaze, as she was sent to another dimension in such a way, she was "bound" to that dimension
-The events of the future happen without Iblis nor Blaze, as she was "reset" while not being bound to that dimension anymore
-Now Blaze's life is only the Sol dimension, her life was changed to be part of that dimension
That is it, the basis for this is that the way she was sent to another dimension was not as a simple travel, but as a "seal" that tied her to that other dimension rather than her original one. This is how she can be princess of the Sol dimension and, once it was restored by the Time Eater, remember Crisis City

There was a missed opportunity in Sonic Generations for 3DS, to replace the rival bosses with ones from the handheld game. Fang The Hunter could've replaced Metal Sonic, Gemerl in place of Shadow, and Blaze in favour of Silver. They could've represented 3 generations of Sonic on handheld, it was perfect. Instead, they did the bare minimum by having different zones from the same exact games as the console version, and one stage from Rush.
