- Not sure what's more embarrassing. That Netflix keeps making garbage content about Black people OR that we as the audience, keep letting them. Either way, I hope the Good Times reboot flops HARD.

The Evans family was an upstanding family. This is an abomination. They used a popular show to get interest in a completely different show.

One long black joke that's all I see on the screen and it should be passed on instead of watch by black people just ignore this
I’m a 51 year old white man who grew up watching GoodTimes as a child and loved the show. I grew up dirt poor with a drunk and abusive Hispanic father and a poor mother who did all she could to care for 4 boys and a girl. GoodTimes seemed to mirror my own family except Mr. Evan’s was the father I could only dream of. He was strict and strong but loved his family dearly. Watching him struggle to find work to care for his children touched me so profoundly because it’s not what I had at home. This cartoon perverts that wonderful show! I pray to God it fails! How dare these people take GoodTimes in such a negative and perverse direction. It is just a shame this is happening to all that was once good.
Same here brother, regardless of race differences, there are common family values that bind us all together and this extremely disrespectful stereotyping of the ‘modern black family’ is pure racism, disrespect and down right evil.
I don’t believe in censorship, but this garbage needs to be removed and these actors, writers should be fired or given a harsh ‘sensitivity training’ class on respecting all cultures including Black familys *punches air too* 😤
I think they have blackmail on Stephen Curry, he’s been acting weird too over the years!!! Like why would he sign onto something like this?
@@Lionheart_He-Man these leftists who continue to make shows like this are telling the world what they truly think of black people. THEY are the true racist.
The most disrespectful insult of all is the fact that the Evans family is “still” in the projects/ghetto. No progress in over 50 years… living in the same unit.. Yeah, that’s exactly how the government housing system works! I guess it’s funny to them that not one single member of the Evans family made it out.. 17C… same apartment!! Damn, damn, damn JAMES!! 😢😔😕 💔
In the original, however, the family _did_ leave the projects, and each of them had glowing prospects for the future.
Seth McFarland needs to stay far away from black comedy.
I totally agree I never trusted Seth MacFarlane after I stopped watching Family Guy. Quagmeyer alone is a problem with his, ideations of date **ape. Not to mention that old cross dressing man who was always coming on to Peter's chubby son, everyone I know thought this was funny but I have been telling people this is just another form of pedophilia except disguised as a cartoon. I always personally felt like Seth needs to be investigated because his jokes were sick and twisted.
Seth Mcfarland's involvement is a immediate no for me. Steph Curry and Yvette Nicole Browns involvement is disappointing. Not shocked Wanda Sykes, and JB Smooth signed on. Who is this for??? The Evans left the projects so putting their offspring back in the projects???
THATS WHAT IM SAYING!!!
I’m wondering what the issue with it is other than tying it to good times. It’s obviously satire.
Showing a drug dealing baby is so bad taste that I hope NetFlips should goes permanently away

"Let's try to capture the Boondocks audience while completely missing the entire point of the Boondocks"
I’m mad that Steph Curry put his name on this. He didn’t grow up anything like this. In fact most black people do not grow up anything like this. I was raised in Brownsville in BK projects and this isn’t anything close to what happens. Original portrayed a positive black family to a baby selling drugs having guns in his face by other babies lol who tf thought yeah this is going to be a hit.
This type of show is why other races think we are illiterate…. They allow writers to portray us this way! This is GOOD TIMES boondocks edition 😮
As I read elsewhere, Boondocks was satirical in nature and used the nuances of the stereotypes that were always thought about the Black community and reversed it for the viewers to actually understand how they were perceived by others. The problem here is that these this is not at all satire. Grant it, there’s things to be said about systems, prejudice, injustice and everything about the Black life experience but even so, the way it’s portrayed here, especially in the midst of the legacy of what was and forever will be the TV classic Good Times is remarkably disgusting. Something as significant as GT and its memorable showcase of actors that paved the way for Black Americans to be seen on television should have NEVER been disrespected in this manner.
I wouldn’t compare this to the Boondocks but you make a great point. This is how non-Black people see us and when we’re not in control and when there’s not enough pushback, this is what we get
This show is what boondocks was trying expose.
The boondocks was a great show and it highlights many issues with our community, however the way in which it was presented, including the networks it aired on, it provided tools to racists who want to bring attention to our negative and ignore the positive ones. They intentionally ignore the context and enjoy the show (yes, racist love the boondocks too) because of the way in which it portrays black people in line with their own views and unintentionally reinforces their bigoted beliefs. For this reason, at least, the boondocks tv show isnt great.
@@LiShuBen That was the "Archie Bunker effect." "All in the Family" was another Normal Lear program featuring all-around bigot Archie Bunker. Even though Archie was always shown as ignorant and wrong, a lot of bigots didn't get the point and cheered that he said out loud the things they believed.
The amount of black actors that participated in this is sad.
I wonder how much they sold their principles for?
This is the fallout from pushing off Apu from *The Simpsons.*
Two of the actors from the original show have small parts in it but don't know what the whole show is like. They hadn't seen the trailer yet. J.J. Walking and Bernadette Stanis are going to be pissed. John Amos hasn't seen it yet either. They're going to be pissed and disgusted.

This is not good times this is bebe kids meet the pjs. This is a complete and total slap in the face and straight disrespectful to what good times was and meant.
Gen Xer here. I grew up on a healthy dose of All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times. Good Times was often trying to break stereotypes (it still had some) and addressed real issues. Also, since its a cartoon, I'll hear 9 and 10 year olds talking aboutt it, just like they told me about Squid Game.. I think the show runner was the same lady in Robert Townsend's Hollywood Shuffle who keeps asking him to be "more black" when he is finally filming his big scene.

The ghettofication of black TV has to end. Im heated about this on another level. And Im so upset with Norman Lear for approving this. But Eric Monte and Mike Evans family are not happy about this.
Don't forget Mr. Lear made these stereo types concrete in American culture hidden in plain sight and we called it entertainment. NONE of his shows ever portrayed an intelligent successful forward thinking person of color.
both of these are excellent points.
Do you even watch The Equalizer starring Queen Latifa?
To be fair Norman Lear approved of a Good Times animation way back when it was announced two years ago. He didn't necessarily have anything to do with the show and its scripts. Just his name is on it as an EP.
"Good Times" should not be the name of this series.
It's "Hood Times."
This cartoon is a mockery
Let's not romanticize the original Good Times either. Black people uplift certain things just because we never had it before and so we'll take what's given. Good Times was written by non Black people perpetuating stereotypes and it shows.
this is a fair point!
This is 1000% pure fact.
Right
Oh please! Good Times kept it real about Black ghetto life but it was ultimately positive and uplifting with a loving and wholesome Black family with TWO strong and loving parents in the household, three children with talent and ambition and an independent and career oriented single woman. The positive impact and genuineness far outshine any so called "negative attributes"
The original Good Times was about poor black people with morals and values , yes they were poor and struggling but their morals and values would prevent them from indulging in the type of behaviors depicted in this trailer. I would say this is slap in the face to the original “Good Times”. A drug dealing baby is a far call from an astute Michael Evan’s !!
Not to mention they aspired to get out of their circumstances….according to this show, aren’t they still in a ghetto-ized environment?
even the Boondocks had moments where I was like “okay, now…” but this? this is RIDICULOUS
Holy shit this is so bad. I cannot imagine how exhausting it must be to be represented like this in media all the time. Ya'll deserve so much better.
Hahaha! Thank you white woman!
It’s made by Seth Macfarlane so I’m not even shocked. Ive never been a fan, but many other black folks LOVED the stereotyped black characters and black “jokes” he wrote into his work😕 This is why I never laugh along when we’re the punchline. Some racists will literally tell us everything they actually think about us in a joking manner.
Every black person that read the script for this show and still decided to take the voice over job needs to be cancelled.
"You are a victim of racism"
This is what some people believe you should vote for, without question.
Cancelled isn’t a thing.. they need to be ignored and forgotten.. half of them we don’t pay any mind anyway
Agreed. I liked (past tense) Wanda too
@sunkissedbytmh3219 why? Since she married a French white woman that's all she speaks on now. I have no qualms with interracial dating. But when that becomes your whole personality then it was never about the person, it was about the status.
Reducing the Black community to a deep rooted racist stereo type is par for the course. But we keep signing off on it by producing it, acting in it and paying to see it.
NetFlix: Let's take a classic genuine comedy that challenged social issues while delving into black culture. Then turn it into every ghetto black stereotype. We'll give it the new Scooby Doo treatment, but focus on black stereotypes.
This mess has so little to do with Good Times. I didn’t even realize this was supposed to be Good Times until the words showed up on the screen.
Stephen Curry produced it!
it’s SO disappointing
@@TiffanyByrdHarrisonI like you Tiffany. However, think about it seriously. We give them the power to insult. Over the years how much money we all gave Netflix?
Seth McFarlene is an automatic red flag, the family guy…guy in a show like this is craazzy💀
Agreed. He’s an habitual line stepper.
Netflix already has a Good Times reboot. It's called "The Upshaws" and they do this "lower-middle class black family overcoming adversity and hardship together no-matter-what" trope MUCH better. Fun fact, Kim Fields (Regina Upshaw), played Penny's (Janet Jackson) friend on Good Times, so the connection is definitely strong.
This is scary. I am 66 years old and this is shocking. I don’t even watch any adult cartoons. Steph Curry is unbelievable that Aisha allowed him to do this with young children. I thought they were more classy. I hope it is cancelled and they lose money! Ugh 😩
Is there a petition to get this shut down???? Where do I sign???
All actors, creators as well as Netflix should be cancelled by the black community. They tried it. So disrespectful!
10 seconds iin, i stopped the preview , canceled Netflix.
NETFLIX DOES NOT RESPECT BROWN PEOPLE.
This is horrible!! I have a lot of respect for the original Good Times Series. And it’s a shame to put out this trash and call it Good Times!!!!
They're killing the next generation with that garbage.
What stuck out to me the most was that the husband in the cartoon is the grandson of James Evans - so they're saying that even though the Evans family in the original series moved out of the projects at the end of Good Times, the next generation ended up right back in the projects?? As if there was absolutely NO upward mobility of the family at all. That's a pretty effed up message.
yeah they ended up RIGHT BACK where their grandad left, LAWDDD
I honestly think Seth McFarland didn't watch the original. Plus, if I had to take a guess, he probably figured having the family in the project would allow for more "wacky hijinks."
Or more likely, he watched it when he was a kid, but hasn’t actually looked at a rerun in years. I bet the last time he actually watched it was to do research for Family Guy. I think it was on TBS and those Columbia House tapes were available by then. They managed to cover I think all about about 20 episodes.
This feels like a parody of a Goodtimes reboot that would have been featured on the boondocks and uncle ruckus is the producer.
This is beyond cringe...NOTHING WAS FUNNY AT ALL..no heartwarming moments..no realistic depections of ANYTHING..just full blown disrespect and shame on all the black voice actors...this is worse than the woman King because at least that was a unknown one of thing
But Good Times is a trailblazing classic that inspired and paved the way out of the blaxpoitation era into the positive black family dynamic
I am black but i dont watch black shows because of content like this. When it comes to black shows, whether dramas, comedies, series, whatever, this is the stereotypical subject matter they always portray. Now this? I see I haven't been missing a thing. I am strictly old school and will stay old school because this crap of today is .. PATHETIC! not funny, not humorous .... JUST PATHETIC!!
Me too, I have to protect my heart and mental health.
@@tiwonnasims8206 👍 ..... the old stuff is just the best .. period!! That goes for music, movies and tv. I hear many young people of today say the same thing, once they have a taste of what was shown and what we saw and listened to, back in the day. It is no comparison.
This doesn't even honor where the original show left off
Exactly. They got out the projects.
Chicago doesn't even have those projects anymore. So why would they be back in them?
They couldn’t do this if some of our people didn’t participate in this nonsense example the actors.
I can guess how they got some of our people to be involved. It is something that always happens, I know from experience.
Say you have an edgy project and you want some black people to work with you. You just say to them that they will get a chance to make their project later if they help you with the “questionable” project now.
Some of the black names on the list might not have needed the push but a few of them I could see doing Good Times for Netflix if they were going to give you a shot later.
This was made for the inner city citizens who think that this a norm of everyday life because if you move out to the burbs, you're not a down with what's going on in the hood and then your considered bougie!
They waited for Norman Lear to die and then pissed on his grave. How did the voice actors read the script and be like “yeah this is what I want my name attached to”
I get the sentiment. Trouble is, Lear more or less stole the IP in the first place, after advocating against it, saying America didnt want to watch a black father.b
I was disgusted by that trailer. This was an opportunity to really pay homage to a show that means so much to many of us.
Its dumb cant believe anyone would want to degrade that iconic show.
Its sad
This show is disrespectful and not funny at all. Please boycott this trash and let it flop.
It’s so bad. It’s literally trashing over what the original Good Times was. It’s nothing like this animated reboot. In the original there were no guns put in their neighborhood or talking baby. Plus, the animation style is just terrible. This is the crap the Boondocks were trying to warn us about. Plain and simple
I’m a black women who works in the animation industry so I know quite a bit about productions like this. I’m genuinely appalled that something like this could happen when currently there is a wave of unemployment hitting the entire entertainment industry because large studios don’t want to green light any new shows. The animation industry is suffering, and literally this year my entire show got shelved in the middle of production because a certain streaming service decided it wanted to cut a bunch of cartoon shows and fire 800 artists just to keep the CEOs pay the same.
There’s not many black artists in animation. I think we literally all know each other. I don’t know anyone who’s worked on this show personally, but I do wonder what could have led them to stay. I personally would never work on such a thing, even if it was my last option if that trailer is truly what it is. But also everyone in this city (LA) is one or two paychecks from losing our housing. So I feel I can’t possibly blame any of the artists/art production for staying, especially if this was their first job or paid low. This feels like yet another cruel game of forcing disempowered people to make slop because of capitalism.
I also genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if most of this was outsourced to another country though considering how poor the animation style came out. That’s another thing that been facing artist in this industry is our jobs being threatened because they don’t want to pay for our work to keep their bottom dollar. And in the case of outsourcing, the studios take advantage of even poorer countries desperation of capital. Basically, screw you Netflix. They cancelled so many shows I know from actual amazing artist and let this slop in instead. The fact that so many artists are suffering from unemployment right now (including myself) while literally racist Minstrel shows are being made instead is one of the biggest indirect slaps in the face I’ve felt from this industry.
wow, I’m so sorry for what’s happening to your industry and how they’ve treated an animation artist. I know that black animators are minority, and I do want to explore more around what forces us to take certain gigs. I remember back when I did a lot of auditions, it always felt like a choice between my integrity and eating that month. And that is not a feeling that I enjoyed, it was a powerlessness because “that’s just how the industry is.” I remember being really depleted when I decided to stop submitting and start making stuff for myself.. and I’m still recovering.
you brought up a lot of good points, and I’m hoping that I can explore these in future videos
It REALLY disgusts me that they try to connect this garbage to the original Good Times. This new show seems AWEFUL! As a black woman, I'm really sick of things like this, cuz people already think negative things about us. It's not our responsibility to always correct them but people CHOOSE to be ignorant about us and think we are caricatures. Non- African Americans already think we're not real people. Now they have a new fictional work to point to and ignorantly say: "THATS what black is!" I'm so tired, I can't even get mad, just mildly annoyed 🙄😒
Great. Now, you can take this time to host a focus group in your neighborhood discussing the flaws about this show and things you can do that are positive for children and adults, like going to a museum.
As a southern man born in Mississippi I am so tired of these racist stereotypes forced and portrayed by Hollywood. This type of rhetoric continues to enforce identity politics that justifies poor social behavior on all sides.
