- Welcome to our biggest production yet: Honda BR-V, Hyundai Stargazer, Toyota Veloz, and Mitsubishi Xpander Cross, all in top-spec trim, battling for the win in our subcompact seven-seater Big Test. And this is just part one of this two-episode showdown shot at the soon-to-open Silang-Aguinaldo interchange of CALAX.
These crossover MPVs are in different stages of their model lifespans, but their general specs are comparable. The BR-V, priced at P1,390,000 for the VX trim, makes 119hp and 145Nm. The Stargazer, selling for P1,288,000 for the GLS spec, generates 113hp and 144Nm. The Xpander Cross, valued at P1,328,000, puts out 103hp and 141Nm; it’s also the only contender still equipped with a four-speed automatic, while the rest have continuously variable transmissions. Finally, the Veloz, with an asking price of P1,250,000 in V form, boasts 105hp and 138Nm.
Which of these four family vehicles do you think takes the lead in this first round of tests? Click play on the video above to find out, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Watch part two here! czcams.com/video/cUjwZJmknnw/video.html
Really happy this got recommended to me. Been looking for videos with this in-depth comparison. Looking forward to part 2!
I suggest doing a rolling acceleration instead, like 60kph to 100 since its more useful in real life scenarios like overtaking rather than a launch from 0.
While we already did that in a previous Big Test (see the three-way midsize SUV episode), you still raise a very good point. We’ll consider that for our next comparos, especially for these budget-friendly people-haulers.
💯 ,, dahil lagi nmn traffic dito sa atin, mas maigi yang accelration, and obesrve the RPMs , diyan mo dn mkikita kung sno malakas kumonsumo ng gas
For me BRV is the winner..you guys also will consider type of transmission..BRV is the highest HP but due to CVT transmission is getting slow in gaining speed but for me its more safer avoiidibg damage to transmission
Dapat naka sport mode para makita talaga lakas ng makina. Pag drive mode kasi tapos eco talagang mahina humatak yan. Unless lahat yan manual transmission.
BR-V can do 0-60 in under 6 seconds when in Sports Mode, and whereas the slow acceleration in Drive mode is a tuning for better fuel efficiency, hence it got the highest rating among other crossovers in its class.
Nice episode guys! SG looking like a solid MPV all-around. All units have their own game going on though, but nice to see how each performs in different categories. Can't wait for part 2.
While this test may not be flawless, it certainly serves as a reliable benchmark. nice concept!
Very good Comparo/Big test! Looking forward to the part 2
Wow very nice comparison right here! Best i ever seen so far. Please do something like this in sedans as well! ❤
Kudos, Top Gear! 😊 Thanks for the new perspective.
I appreciate the review Top Gear PH. Very informative for people who are still choosing the best MPV that will fit their style and budget. Keep up the good work!
Great Comparo! Can you also do this kind of Comparo for crossovers, ex: Stonic, Raize, MS. Thanks!
When is part 2 ? This is so informative specially for car buyers
Very nice review, I hope you guys included ertiga since its direct competition of expander
More content like this please. MPVs segment comparo! 😄
considering our road conditions here in PH with narrow streets and eskenitas, 360 cam is more useful than cruise control which you will only use in expressway
Ganda ng review. the best! Add nyo na lng po yung pag testing ng Noise and yung paahon naman po.
Cant wait for Part 2. This is a very very good episode, very helpful. We dont see much Stargazers on the road, but based on part 1, it is a surprise winner - and a lot of the 7 MPV buyers actually miss out if they don’t put this in their shortlist
Not seeing Stargazers - With that look? Lmao.
I've been seeing a growing number of them.
how about after sale?
on the acceleration test can the Top Gear Team try them on their performance modes? i really wanted to see that ! most of them have it
Excited for part 2
This was an awesome review. Thanks guys!
Maybe you should also include the seating comfort with all 7 passengers on board since that's also one factor car buyers wants to buy those 7 seater MPVs
Finally, an evaluation of these 4! Even before I saw this, I was considering Stargazer; I can't wait for part 2!
Hello maam Om John Wenjht Tibay Shworoom Specialist at Hyundai Cainta
FINALLY, someone did it, been waiting for this for so long. Missed the XL7 tho. but anyway, very good video!
part din ba ang rush or not?
very nice car reviews guys!
Looks like brv is the underdog on this mpv's but still i purchase brv. Ive test drive this mpv's in my opinion brv is still confident to drive uphill or highways..
best reviews, I really like it. thanks, guys
The acceleration and braking test should be done in 3 consecutive times and get the average for fairer results because of other factors.
Wow you nailed this review top gear! Looking forward for the part 2 ❤
May part 2 na pala haha
Kudos! this is a nice episode.
Good comparo! But since you are comparing a 7-seater MPV, the sitting comfort of the 3rd row is really important factor that must be shown and evaluated. It is a big factor in decision-making for a 7-seater.
cant wait for part 2
Nice tests, sana sinali ang Ertiga Hybrid.
great comparo. thanks guys. keep it up.
Very helpful! kudos for this!
An awesome review. Still will go for a BRV
Super nice vid 🔥
Finally I'm really waiting for this video
thank you for this video! been struggling to choose between these four cars actually.. this will help me and my husband to choose the best fam car ❤❤
Keep this up. Really enjoyed watching. 👍🥰
nice review. we just got approved for an sg 😊
Just the review that I needed.🎉🎉🎉
Seeing the Veloz and Xpander having only 1 point against each other doesn't really surprise me. Those two our are choices before we love the Veloz's features but ended up buying the XP Cross beacuse the ride on the XP cross is much more refine, comfortable and quieter while the Veloz is a little bit ratly and the noise reduction is as good as in our Toyota Wigo also the XP Cross has more ground clearance which we really need on where we live. So yeah no regrets on our side
Nice!! Planning to get the XP Cross. Your review helped me finalize my decision! Thanks!
Next BIG TEST sana Geely Coolray SE, GAC EMZOOM RSTYLE, MG ZS-T, CHANGAN CS35+. Ganitong quality review ang deserve ng likes and subs!
I drive a Black Xpander Cross in Indonesia. It is sad to discover in your show here that the Xpander Cross there in the Philippines has not included features such as 360 deg camera view, wireless compartment, and the 9 inches screen center car display when those features are all available in Indonesian Cross variants.
Indonesian variant also uses the CVT while Philippines has the AT.
I hope Philippines will have an option that includes all those features soon.
That’s the industry practice here to bring in water down version of any model but still carry a premium price. Ironically,it’s called poverty package! 😂😂😂
Part 2 please
2023 xpander gls owner here. i was rooting for the honda brv sana but seeing its cargo space, i didn’t regretted choosing the xpander. besides, it was offered at a discount with the best freebie (2 years of PMS for both parts and labor). great looks; ride comfort is great; acceleration is good as well and fuel consumption is nice (compared to my 2018 avanza). best value for money in my opinion.
Tipid nga tlga c xpander at tlgng sarap idrive...
@@3points35 average km/l city drive and long drive ?
good test on luggage space, can you do a test for cabin space as well, particularly for the 3rd row seats? Thanks!
Does the Honda BR-V have adaptive cruise control WITH LOW-SPEED FOLLOW as indicated in your video? I thought it doesn't have low-speed follow. Can someone please confirm. Thanks.
Comparo we've been waiting for🎉
Yung Xpander Cross parang make-up Xpander GLS lang din naman. Wala halos pinagkaiba unlike before na mas mataas ang ground clearance ng Cross at McPherson Strut ang suspension. Pero ngayon pareho na sila ng GLS variant. Same goes with Veloz, para siyang top of the line ng Avanza since avanza built for lower class na puro hard plastics😂 ofcourse with Toyota safety sense
Meanwhile yung BRV ang laki ng price bump pero andun pa din naman yung power, tech and comfortability with Honda Sensing. Pero mainam kung ginawa na nila Auto Brake Hold at Electronic Parking Brake para premium looks like Xpander.
Pero with this comparo I'd go with Stargazer. It has power and everything. Kumbaga balance lang siya. 😅
Stargazer also have 6 airbags. loaded with advanced safety features
They should also test uphill climb with full loading capacity. This is the most common use for the family who purchase MPV like this with small engines and affordable prices.
You should have also tested the acceleration in Sports mode to show the powertrain's full capability. If any of the brands doesn't have that feature, minus points to them
Durability of parts like shocks, bushings, rotor disks, ball joints etc.
Engine longevity as well.
Spare parts availability.
Aircon, condenser life span….
These matters most, how do you make a review bout this?
Hello, you should try the uphill test with 7 adult passengers. We need this kind of video since that's one of my concerns with these mpv cars.
Noted. We'll try to secure a proper location for this type of text next time.
Iyak Veloz dyan. Meron na gumawa sa indonesia.
Yung sa indonesia. Nilaro lang ng SG yan uphill lol
@@kimabella8636 how was brv uphill?
@@johnnesliehabajab8812No issues at all, just as expected from the highest torque engine in its class.
XC is really good, sadly Mitsubishi didn't even add any additional features to their top of the line model for PH because apparently countries like India and Indonesia has gotten more robust features with their models, like panoramic camera, collision sensor, etc. XC is basically just an Xpander base with additional flairings and an lcd gauge panel for almost 300k additional price. Not worth it imo. If you're after the drive feeling of the XC, just get an Xpander.
Not surprised with the SG, put it in Sport or Smart mode and the IVT really performs.
The Veloz would really have an easier time to load items inside since the ground clearance isn't really high. Looks premium but some real-life feedbacks tell otherwise with build quality.
BR-V is tech loaded but that's because it's the VX model. The V would've been better, but I get that it might fall too short already when compared to the rest. The CVT, which everyone thinks is a big advantage, turns out to be the Honda's weakness.
Xpander Cross looks like it has an expensive pricetag too but afaik it has the biggest discount offerring as well, may still lack in extra features but refinement and build quality wise, Mitsubishi surely didn't cut costs on that. And Anton could've felt better closing the tailgate with the 3rd row reclined fully back, if nakaharap lang yung bag towards the tailgate so no one would worry about damages and still see that it would still close. 😁
Good comparo, tho hopefully the part 2 would be better 😀
I agree we have XP Cross just release 4 months ago with that price it should have 360 camera as a standard but were still happy on our purchase.
@@ez_v7076 adding 360 camera would increase its price a lot which MMPC won't risk doing
Vx has paddle shifter
What do you mean by CVT is the weakness of BR-V? is it better if it's DCT? Please expound.
They did not include Nissan Livina hehe very good segment.thanks much
Ive got stargazer, i dont like the look of it at first, but eventually super in love with it.... 2 weeks old stargazer here ❤❤❤
How's your experience po with the stargazer, does it feel premium when inside the car and also, hows the fuel economy so far? Honestly, we like it naman sana kaya lang yung exterior looks and that dashboard is causing stir in the family hahah
@@KiffyQuipaymatipid ang Stargazer, 18 to 23km/L
@@KiffyQuipayhyundai just made an update on the design of the dashboard. it looks way better now. lets just wait for the updated units to arrive.
@@KiffyQuipayso far ang ayoko sa sg is ung blindspot nya sa corners at ska ung cup holder lol. The rest is superb
Why is Suzuki Ertiga not on there? I would understand not including Nissan Livina but Ertiga missing?
you can't go wrong on any of those, preference nalang talaga nag mamatter dyan looks at sa budget
I hope Part 2 will feature an Uphill Test with at least 5 passengers.
Better 7 passenger.
Now this is what we call a comparo!!!!! Kudos!!!
everybody should watch this ❤❤💙💙
dapat tie lang sila ng stargazer sir, hehe. but all in all ganda ng content nyo sir, super helpful sa mga di makapag deside sa mga mpv sa market.
Xpander owner here in the Philippines and I'm surprised. Did you mention there's no cruise control coz mine's certainly have it
It is already widely known that IVT of hyundai is the more responsive compared to other CVT's of its peers.
Sana nagtry din ng 0-60kph using the paddle shifter to see the difference.
How about the interior and engine specs?
Uphill test mga boss 😎
Sorry was this 0 to 60 mph or kph?
Can you guys review bmw x6
My favorite segment the big test 👏🔥
Why release only now? 😝 I already purchased an mpv
Where is the Jetour ?
weirdly enough, ALL Indonesian reviews had same results with each other regardless of yt channel but did not get the same results as what top gear says about the acceleration part between them
Great test, I especially liked the cargo test(I would contend however that the BRV has too much going on with that load cover and there is a chance it can break under heavy load) and that despite Honda trying to make the fastest MPV, it didnt pan out that way. One thing though, why wasnt the Suzuki XL7 included in this test?
I just purchased Brv VX and I swear it’s quicker than in the video😂 even with people up to the 3rd row, it’s not this weak in the video😂😂😂
nice review .
...2020
Nice Comparo. Sana sa part 2 may overtake test. Tapos may kasalubong na truck. 😆😆 Joke lang.
When is part 2 =(
Veloz guy here 😊 for tech features mas i think mas advantage pa din sya with the push button hold and e brake. 360 camera.
So far any disadvantages ni veloz na na experience nyo?
@@alfsiegfredrazon2489 mababa lang ung ground clearance compare sa iba but overall love it.
Where is the suzuki ertiga and xl7 nissan livina? Isnt a mpv too?
The Stargazer was made to be an Xpander killer.. Not content to merely gaze at the stars, but to rightfully claim its place among them! Stargazer FTW!
Can you make a comparo as well for Okavango and other 7 seater category 🙏🏻
Wrong category 😂
Differrent price point.
it was a surprised that Stargazers is faster, more spacious (checkout the 2 people seating in the 2nd row) and generous cabin storage.
HYUNDAI is one of d most popular car in South Korea.👍
We hope to see uphill test with 7 people.
Grabeng effort ang kelangan para mabuo ang ganitong review. Thanks TGPH!
PS: Kelan ang part 2? 😅
Sana sinali kung alin pinakamatipid sa fuel..😊
THIS is probably the most consequential video for prospective automobile owners in the Philippines today, especially with how important MPVs are in the current landscape. Can't wait for part 2! As for me, I went with the BR-V S mainly for its safety features and the Honda's better-than-most PMS : I had a Tucson a while back and was not at all satisfied with the level of service and cost of Hyundai's PMS so I am reluctant to buy any of their offerings ( though I heard they have improved a lot since then ), everything about the XPander seems very dated and Mitsubishi's PMS also seems swamped nowadays especially with the closure of their Pasig branch, and the new Avanza looks to be too low and wonky-looking.
Stripped out ata safety features ng brv S. Aling safety feature nagustuhan mo sa S variant?
@@leahte6844 airbags even in the base model (Xpander Cross, the top-of-the-line variant of Xpander, in comparison, only has 2).
Wait I thought Hyundai has Smart Cruise Control. Is that the same with adaptive Cruise control?? It works the same.
If you wanted to be accurate in testing cars this way, better invest on a performance meter/box..
omg a comparo, I hope the ertiga can be include in the future review too 😊
braking test, I never heard that hyundai produce tire screech, versus all the japanese brands which all produce tire screech.
madami ako nakasabayan na stargazer huling travel ko papunta baguio and napaka agile nga niyan tulin sa daan grabe.
The toyota and honda both looks so classy
For power and exterior looks: BR-V
For space and overall performance: Stargazer:
For Practicality: Veloz
For Saving money: Expander
Test in up hill n down hill dalton pass down to santa fe nueva vizcaya 👍
Parang kelangan ng subtitle pagnagsasalita ung naka-green.😊
What about suzuki xl7
Brake test on brv? 🤔
Lahat naman may laban.
Preferences na lang talaga.
Pero aminin nio. Comedy yung itsura nung SG. 😂😂😂😂
Stargazer #1 😍💪🏼
