Erin Graham refuses to eat meat, vegetables, pasta or salad and is even choosy about desserts.
Erin is an extremely picky eater. She enjoyed breakfast foods like French toast, some fruit, grilled cheese sandwiches -- only with American cheese -- chips, French fries, crackers and lots of peanut butter, but only a specific kind.

@Utkarsh Gupta What? She's not doing it on purpose, you know that, right?
@Utkarsh Gupta that isn't the case here, she has a phobia of food, and not a normal i only want to eat what i want type of kid like in the old days before doctors discovered different reasons for food refusal.
@Utkarsh Gupta I'm an adult and have the same problem she has. And I really wish I could eat like everyone else. So yeah, being called a "picky eater" is disrepectful and wrong.

@@sabriaghee6153 Don’t ever let your kids enter a “survival mentality” by basically starving them. There are mental disorders both in poverty and abundance. This is why anxiety and depression still take hold regardless of economic background. Your child probably never had ARFID, if she did, then she would’ve starved herself (which is one of the basis of the diagnosis). There are kids who are built like Anorexics because they starve themselves and have to get hospital treatment before starting therapy. Don’t downplay a mental illness because you were “cured.”

im not saying its healthy, but at least at that point shes eating.
I had this for most of my childhood. I'm 23 now and things are way better, however this is not a joke. I remember wanting to try certain foods but my brain stopping me from picking up a fork and eating it and I remember sitting in a restaurant and knowing it's wrong to be the way that I am but stuck on how to fix it. I remember when I was about 6 years old, my primary school did a curry tasting session one day for our class and I hid in the toilets before a teacher realised I was missing and then forced me to eat something in front of the rest of the class because "I was being rude for not trying anything" when my brain physically wouldn't let me. I also had acid reflux as a baby and I used to get bullied over my eating habits at school and kids would either throw food at me that they knew I didn't like or even with my closest friends I would stay over at their houses and they'd ask me why I was the way I was and try and hold me down so I'd eat pizza and stuff (Now I realise they obviously weren't real friends) but things like that traumatised me and also what made matters worse is that my family made such a huge deal about it when I did try something and that embarrassed me and made me not want to do it again.
It started getting better when I was around 16 because I realised friends were inviting me out to meals and parties and I realised if I didn't eat or refused to eat then I could easily lose those friends as they'd think I'm weird and so I used to look on the menu for an item of food that was closest to something I'd eat and then try that, e.g trying a Salmon fillet because I ate tuna and thought it might be similar or noticing it came with mash potato and veg (which I loved) and realising that if I didn't like the salmon then it didn't matter as long as there was something on my plate that I was willing to eat.
I do still struggle with this sometimes today but I am getting there, my taste buds are willing to accept a lot more foods nowadays and I'm comfortable eating certain foods in front of people and I do have a balanced diet. I never realised that what I had was a condition, I thought I was just weird but back in the 2000s there was no help for me and everyone looked down on me for it. I am proud of myself for how much I've overcome and dealt with.
There may be some of you in the comments who see this and just think, "Wow she's weird" or "This is dumb". I ask you to hold back your judgement and instead try and emphasise and think about what it must be like to want to eat something but having no willpower in your head to physically pick up a fork and do it. It's been a challenge and it's taken a lot of hard work, no one is to blame but myself and I wish I never had these struggles but I'm proud of myself now for doing as well as I have and now being able to say that I have a balanced and healthy diet 😊
Hmm I wonder if my cousin has this.. she’s very similar - she will only eat chicken fingers, grapes, and cheese and crackers and she’s now 15.. I tried to gently probe why she didn’t want to eat other foods and she described it very much like you just did.. I think she wants to but her brain just stops her from trying new things… she also doesn’t like change so I think it’s also an anxiety/control issue ..
you have no idea how much this resonates with me i’m still right in the thick of it but i hope it’ll get better for me aswell
Please don't blame yourself it's not your fault :))

This was our story. Our son wouldn't eat anything. I made him instant breakfast every day and used 2 packets to add calories. We took him to Children's Hospital, we tried everything. Oddly enough he did like French toast, pancakes and eventually grilled cheese. He started eating peanut butter when he was about 8 and poptarts . I worried constantly about his health and weight. This went on for several years. When he was in middle school he got invited to stay over at friends houses, I thought he'd starve. That's where he learned to eat cheese pizza. Oh my gosh, I was thrilled. Every time he stayed at a friend's he'd try something different. Not too different but progress was progress. Fast forward... he went away to college, we took him out to dinner and he ordered fish and chips but asked for broccoli instead of fries I was stunned.... he's now married and we all went out for Chinese not too long ago and he ordered crispy DUCK! Duck, for the love of God. I thought my eyes would come out of my head. He cooks all the time now and makes really good food, I'm beyond amazed.
My son was also born with GERD, infant apnea and bradycardia.

You are very right. This is an eating disorder called ARFID: Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. It was added as an eating disorder to the DSM-5 in 2013. It is a mental disorder. People who have this would literally starve themselves them put what they consider an unsafe food in their body. See this video to better understand what ARFID is: @4d-k

another thing is, i dont know if i get my nutrients if i eat foods like:
bread, quesidillas, grilled cheese, pb&g, i eat salads too, literally every type of fruit, almonds and peanuts, and i eat pizza, french fries and other junkfoods too. People commenting who don't have this condition have no idea what they are talking about. It's not that you don't want to eat; you really do. But imagine that just about everything makes you physically wretch. That's what happens, you try new foods, it gets to the back of your throat and your tongue literally throws it back out. It is so painful, embarrassing and debilitating, that eating when anyone else is there becomes a nightmare. You very quickly identify what you can and can't eat without throwing up. You try the very best you can and it can take years to add just one food to your diet. I have suffered with this my entire life. I have tried hypnosis, counselling, kinesiology and desensitizing therapy. Nothing has worked. It is a constant 'thing' in one's life, and folks mouthing off about how it is just being 'picky' or juvenile don't have any idea what a pain in the butt it is.
Exactly. People really need to understand that it isn't all that simple.
your right
Then wouldnt it be something to with the taste buds or that specific part of your brain? I would think that in 2016 they could run some test and narrow down the problem. Like finding out what foods you do eat and see if their are similarity in taste or texture between them. This girl seems to eat alot of sweets. Its been proven that sugar is very similar to cocaine in the way it produces serotonin in the brain. Could she just have an addiction to sugar?
I think im battling with the same thing....maybe u can inbox me n I can ask you some questions bout it...
Dark Souls You make some interesting points. Sugar is the devil every which way...lol. However, as to research, there is currently a major research attempt being made by Duke University. Many picky eaters are probably what is known as 'supertasters' (my son PE is definitely a supertaster, he can literally identify something that has just been in contact with something else. As a child he could pick up a toy and say what the plastic was made of and who was the last person to touch it).
It is an extremely complex issue and most PE are looking forward to more research into our condition.

They said she have acid reflux since she was a baby. Oily food causes acid reflux. Some vegetables also causes acid reflux/gas. Avoid sour stuff. She's scared of the acid reflux that happens after eating.
I have always had severe gi issues and I can confirm. Acid reflux is no joke. When you’re a kid you can’t comprehend why you are constantly throwing up in your mouth or why your stomach and throat is burning. Just that it happens after you eat. So you don’t want to eat anything. Especially not pasta and vegetables. I hope she got the treatment that she needed for it.

I am a person with food neophobia and I am so thankful my parents do not force me to eat things I don’t want to. They only encourage me. I hope to improve in the future!
It's sad that some of you think this is just picky eating. That's like saying anorexia is just occasionally skipping a meal because you're full.
EarthLoveBeth I have a kid who was exactly the same, it's not indulging a picky kid, it's way beyond that. As a parent, at least for me, number one priority was CALORIES. I should have owned stock in Carnation Instant Breakfast. I bought it by the case.
In addition my son was in the 90th percentile for his height and in the 5th for his weight.
EarthLoveBeth why? She doesn’t have an eating disorder she eats food she’s being very picky
PanPan -you missed the entire point of the piece. She DOES have an eating disorder. That's why she receives treatment in an *eating disorders clinic*. Imagine if every bite you took, you knew there was 50% chance of being poisoned. You'd be scared shitless of food, especially new foods. That's how her mind works. And it's not that the parents did something wrong. It's that her earliest memories of food are memories of intense pain and vomiting.
Gemma Rendell your not taught many things in school, think about this then. School is known worldwide as a big educational system, why ain’t we learning about the biggest geniuses in history,? Why would we learn about disorders that only a small population has? You think everything we “learn” in school is important? and if it’s not learnt in school it’s not important? Sounds ridiculous. We were never taught the life importance’s. I can’t remember learning anything in school which is important except primary school.
She aint got no damn Phobia... She's a normal kid that wants to eat JUNK!!! Stop spoiling your child and they won't act like this!
Ikr
👌 🙌
Don Mcphie it was from when she was born idiot.
KitKat RolePlays Mhm but still lol
Jessica Mori but still nothing, you dont understand it since you dont have it.
I honestly think I have the same thing. Like I want to like certain things but when I go to try it, it’s like my brain tells me that it’s going to kill me or something like that and It’s so annoying trying to explain to people why I don’t like certain foods
yea its like having trust issues with food i have it sometimes but not all the time
Thank you for showing a man also struggling! We’re all people and it can happen to anyone!
My grandma would honestly murder me if I said I'm not eating.
Grandma LOLLLL!! 😂😂😂
My grandma would've put an entire carton of food in front of me and said "Eat" 😂😂😂lol
IzumiRiceBowl OML same!! Me too
#stopchildabuse
IzumiRiceBowl Lol ikr

Same with me!
Mr. Bob same
I have this still until this day. My parents respected me and let me grow up and eat what I want. They told me to not stress and I will grow out of it, I should just take my time. Now I eat way more but not all. I‘m still learning and I’m happy that my parents helped me.
I'm really proud of her parents for getting help for her and not giving up or just going to punishment.
And I'm proud of the girl for trying, because lots of adults will not.
She talks so maturely for a 7yr old
7 is when kids get smart
@@delete147user agree
It’s so upsetting how many people’s first thought is to physically abuse the child to get them to eat :/
ccchat8 I can imagine that if this child was alive about 100 years ago. Picky eating was a major no no. Either you eat or you got spanked. I do feel that we have come a long ways since then. I too was a picky eater but not as bad as this child. I out grew it but there still some things I don't eat.
Perfect example. When it wasn't a bunch of shitty parents raising kids there was a million less disorders.. Coincidence? Lol
Uhm my parents (I’m Asian)
MAG God'z AmonG Men No mental health just wasn’t taken as seriously and many people just went undiagnosed.
@@presssquareproductions2303 exactly, she has absolute control over her parents her parents need to show her that in life not everything goes her way
I’m glad things like this are being seen as actual conditions. You can tell she’s very anxious about food. At one point she touches her chest and takes a deep breath, either psyching herself up to eat something or calming herself after a stressful eating experience
I mean they should be seen as actual conditions but most people don’t understand, which is discouraging for the person themselves because they may not get the right tips and treatments that apply to the person with that condition.
this is like that video i’ve watched in minute videos. hope she’s doing well now 💛
‘Get off the bed, FREDDY’
Me: YEAH FREDDY OFF THE BED
I love your humor tbh.
Halieisnotonfire UwU totally
❤️
I read that when she said that 😂
It’s spelled Freddie lol got em
Some of yall need to get your heads out of your butts. This girl has a real problem and it's not her parents fault. When the lady described the mind of a picky eater, she was pretty spot on. You do not know what it's like to be a picky eater or have a picky eater child. I have sensory issues so I can understand a lot of her preferences. Like the only creamy peanut butter. And only certain brands. I don't know about her taste, but for me, I can taste a difference in brands of food when other people often can't. And sometimes it's gross. It is not bratty to have food preferences. Walk in people's shoes, educate yourself and have a little empathy.
Thank you! My husband has this exact problem and he's doing fine :)
+Bethany Brown Thank you from me too!
I have a sensory disorder also. I know how that kid feels! I think Arron has a sensory disorder, that is more serious!
+anglekan I can't tell if you're agreeing with me but my parents beat my butt for acting up and as a result, I respect my elders and know how to hold my tongue but I'm still really picky.
You don't teach a child to respect you by beating them. Beatings teach them to do what you want of them with fear as an incentive, not respect. Bethany Brown
As somebody who has Dumping Syndrome I feel the same way. I’ve lost three pounds in one week from only eating very little a day. Food scares me, and any type of food makes me sick.
Okay wow this is amazing. I never knew there was a name for that. My 4 year old son is just like this.. thank you so much
I die a little bit inside whenever this sickness is just called being a "picky eater"
That’s what it is
Kinsi 96 it’s not being a picky eater you’re just stupid.
@@lydia3158 id say I wish you had it so you'd see how much of a shitty disorder it is but I woulsnt wish it on anyone tbh
Artemis Fielder and how do you know they don’t have the phobia lol??
Artemis Fielder I literally said it wasn’t being a picky eater to the person who said it was.
As someone with chronic stomach pain, I sympathize with her being afraid of food possibly because of her past acid reflux. She’s about sixteen now; I hope she’s doing much better :)
Dowse I’m so sorry! Chronic pain sucks so much; I feel you :( I hope you can find a way to manage your pain xx
Dowse I’m really sorry to hear that. Chronic pain often times makes us feel hopeless because there isn’t really a “cure” per say, but it helps a bit to know that there are ways to manage it. I wish you the best, and remember that your pain does not define you. Good luck with everything♥️♥️
-Seedrian Sparkles- I used to eat anything I wanted until 2 years ago, I started having chronic pain it was unbearable I didn’t know what was causing it, I pretty much ate the same meals until I realize it was beef what made me sick, scallops, shrimp, once I stopped eating that I didn’t have the horrible pain anymore, but I’m always afraid of new foods now, I’m very picky when I eat out and it bothers me so much when people try to tell me to just eat a bite of beef 😕 I always say it’s not worth the pain, the person I’m nowadays is not the same I was 2 years ago..
Me too
Probably not... I’m 16 too and I have this disorder as well
Got diagnosed at age 6 and I’m not better still
I have two children with ARFID (Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), and it's very hard for them. My daughter is 13 and has done Art depicting what it's like living in her mind and her fear of choking/gagging/vomiting. This is not "Extreme Picky Eating".
❤️I had a similar eating disorder! Sensory disorder. Was misdiagnosed with anorexia and Bulimia. Started really young. I feel for these kids.
All these people are calling her a "brat" or a "bitch" but neophobia is a mental disorder just as real as a mental disorder like anorexia. The fact is, they are I convinced that she's just not eating it because she doesn't like it or the way it looks, but she literally can't help it. When she sees a plate of food that she's never tried, it scares ever because she knows that there's no way she will be able to try it. Deep down, she wants to be able to try it. The problem is that her mind won't let her. The problem with neophobia is that even if they bring themselves to try the food, they will almost never like it because their brain will override their taste buds when they begin to put it in their mouth by saying "this will be horrible" and so it is. Just because it's a mental disorder you don't understand doesn't mean you should act like it's not one at all.
Thank you! People need to stop being such cyber bullies n leave the kid alone!! Who hates on a little girl?
finally someone understands !!
Gum bearz Way to go yet your waiting your time! Its sad yet that the way pp can be.
Yaaa, no it's just being a little brat
Player Equinox I second that. "I don't have anything to eat." She has plenty to eat. She just doesn't do it.
Food Neophobia exists. She doesn't have it. The parents gave up too quickly.
sonicawesomeness thank you, doctor
hayleypdowd She is literally just saying "Mmm... no." She's deciding. People with actual food neophobia get physically ill when they see other food.
sonicawesomeness I agree with you. She's a brat. Her parents are coddling her.
1, she was starving herself from birth
2, she's refusing Pizza, even after tasting it
3, This is MURICA damit--jk lol
I think she's legit food phobic
The only reason a child would be spoiled and not wanting to eat is because she doesn't want to get fat, or look like one of those Photoshopped magazine models.
I think she's too young for that at this point
I actually know about this phobia, sometimes its not even just wanting a different food it's a fear of texture, taste and high anxiety making it hard to want to eat because it's just scary to people with this condition
I have this phobia and one thing that scares me the most is just a different brand i know i eat that food but its from a different brand i wont like it i cant have it it will me disgusting those are ky thoughts but my parents dont understand but at least i dont starve myself that i am very proud of
She’s 9 years old and she knows that something is wrong. Wow this is going to be an incredible journey but I have a feeling that she’s on her way 🥰 . Amazing content once again 🌺🌸🌺
well duh she doesn’t like that pizza, it’s from whole foods
official holy water bro the pizza from Whole Foods is bomb af
I hate whole foods but the pizza is fucking great
this is not a disorder this is parents who aren't strict enough, this girl is ordering her parents around!
The girl is the the one that wanted to go to the doctor so she can eat more food
+Alexandra Pieper yes it is a real disorder have you not listened or watched this video, they said this started out when she was just a baby with a case of bad acid reflux and that's when her all food refusal started?
+Tom it's a disorder and it's real as the reporter says, pay attention to the reporter.
+Gregor Krause Well, you should define disorder then. With something as psychological as that, there's no way you could assess it's not the parents' fault. Frankly, it probably is.
p.s: Definition www.google.pt/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=medical%20disorder%20definition
p.p.s: of course it's a disorder, her "food pseudo-phobia" is limiting hers and her family's lives.
i think her senses of smell and taste and sight might be so out of wack that neophobia has developed?
Looking at her sighing really reminds me of my childhood after being told to just eat my food, those simple instruction like "chew it and shallow the food!", but then me, I cant even shallow without having water. People sometimes get mad at me for drinking water after chewing, but if I force myself to try shallowing food without water, I would just end up vomiting, and all my hard work of eating will just go to waste, and so does the food. I'm glad that her parents is so understanding. The doctor is right she'll eventually outgrow it, especially that she is very willing to change.
I'm an adult with this and it's horrific. Eating is a nightmare. Using the word "picky" is so belittling and insulting. My parents just thought I was picky so they would try to force me to eat things. It was genuinely traumatizing without intervention from a specialist. The best way I can describe it is like being terrified of spiders, and being told to eat them. Starving her won't work. I didn't eat for 4 days. It wasn't enough. "Unsafe" food makes me vomit on contact. I'm praying they can help her. I was the same way when I was a kid with mostly eating sweets, and the majority of what I can eat is still sweets. When you eat the same things over and over for 30 years, you start to hate them. I used to at least like the foods that I can eat. Now I hate eating entirely. I force myself to eat, but it's not enough and my liver isn't doing great. I'm seeing specialists, but it's not enough. This is a very, very, very serious disorder. The messed up part is that people like to tell me how lucky I am because they're having trouble losing weight. It's disgusting. I'm likely going to die early, but man at least I'm not chubby. What a horrifying mindset.
As someone who has emetophobia (a phobia of vomiting) I have struggled for YEARS with food. I can eat a lot more than I used to, but I can feel her pain. I know her cause of fear of food is different, but to everyone complaining "she just wants sugar" etc, when richer foods make you feel sick, you find your safe foods. Mine are always carbs and are mostly always sweet. Muffins and cereal and my top safety foods. I hope she's doing a lot better now, it's really hard to push through.
some people dont realise emetophobia is an anxiety disorder, not just a typical phobia. my mom used to laugh at me when i was screaming and crying that i wanted to die because i had a stomach ache. i dont think people realise what we go through on a daily basis..
очень одинокий
Aw I’m so sorry, I hope your doing better :(
Peachŷ Røse I have emetophobia too! Regardless of who is throwing up, if they are next to me, I plug my ear and get the hell out of there. I’ll start crying and have an anxiety attack if I can’t leave. If I’m get sick, it’s even worse. I feel like I can’t breathe!
I have it too and I also love carbs and sweets. I love muffins and pancakes.
I only more recently learned about emetophobia but oh my gosh I really struggled with this as a kid. Nobody ever gave it a name. Everyone would say it was just a sensitive stomach or I was easily grossed out but it was more than that. Years of crying, getting belittled by school nurses, stomachaches, and starving myself because I was scared of vomiting and I finally have a name for it. I'm glad to say I'm doing much better now and have been doing great for the past 8 or so years. I even love food now! I've never even shared this with anyone or allowed myself to think about it too much but I'm proud of myself and where I'm at now
*Watches this while eating food*
Watches this while very hungry...
does drinking milk count? I mean... it smells sour and tastes sour but at the end of it, it is still milk u know

Horrible I got prayers on that lil girl and the parents God bless, u will make it through this mom and dad, hope the age she's at now she has gotten allot better
My granddad would say "It's not called food neophobia, it's called being a little shit"
+harry s Thank you! Common sense out of the window. My nieces, when they were younger, refused certain vegetables but we set them straight by showing them who is boss. The girls parents are either submissive to the girls wishes, or just don't know how to enforce rules.
Dude. I don't think your granddad would use that language
Your grandad is awesome
