Today we're checking out a refurbished PSP I ordered on Amazon. This handheld is a region specific blue color out of Japan and was more expensive than normal for a PSP so let's see what they sent.

It was nice that PSP had a "quick remove" battery. You could have a second battery pre-charged and ready to swap in once the first battery goes down.
$200 PSP: Expensive but incredibly functional, even 18 years after release.
$200 PS Portal: Expensive and can only do remote play. Quite a costly paperweight.
Honestly I've mentioned it before but I think the biggest issue with the psp in 2023 is trying to find reliable 3rd party batteries since the original are either expanded or completely cooked.
It’s not that big of a deal nowadays with portable battery power banks. You can also power via mini USB and that can connect to any power bank.

I’m pretty sure ifixit sells reliable batteries, I bought a Wii U gamepad battery from them boasting higher mAh so I expect them having psp batteries

Man PSP is so much smaller than I remember as a kid with itty bitty hands. This thing was absolutely game changing. If they released a modern PSP, I wouldnt even hesitate. This was the very first homebrew experience too and it was terrifying haha.
Dang the PSP aged very well, so ahead of its time!

$200 for for a cracked shell that's splitting at the seams is a pretty terrible deal. lol
The psp is my favorite portable console. So small and easy to carry and the amount, quality and variety of games is impressive
I bought a GB SP 101 from Amazon renewed many years ago. At the time they were cheaper there than on eBay. Pretty much only came “cleaned” but it worked and still does.
For a device that came out 18 year ago, it's pretty impressive a modded PSP can play PSP, PS1, NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, GEN, Turbrografix, Atari, Homebrew, Arcade, etc...
I got Sega CD to work with Sonic CD.
Meanwhile, for $199.99, the PS Portal can only do remote play. I'd feel scammed if I bought one of those.
Regular Psp can play Ps1 games you bought on Ps3 Psn.
The PSP-3000 was available in piano black, pearl white, mystic silver, radiant red, vibrant blue, spirited green, blossom pink, turquoise green and lilac purple in the UK and probably the rest of Europe

Nice condition but I think that crack and separation would cause me to exchange. Shouldn't have that for that kind of money, in my book anyways. I think in the USA we got a similar color but it was metallic. I still have mine and it came with a camera and InviZimals. My original PSP-300 I broke the screen on it replacing the UMD and had to fix that too. Happy I kept my PSPs as there are some great games that have not got the remaster treatment.
Psp was premium feeling, with music, movie, internet support, and obvi great games. The console was great, and Sony should bring it back, directly or spiritually

Wow great condition. I got one off of Etsy and the guy shafted me. The screen and body were so scuffed up it look like a dog had chewed on it. Couldn’t get a refund either.
I just picked up a PSP Go from a pawn shop because of your previous video. I can't wait to see if it works when my charger comes in the mail on Monday lol

I actually got a white PSP 3000 from a retro game store 5 days ago without a single scratch for $89 with a case included. Superb condition, the only thing that I need to clean is the joystick/nub.
I own so many psp variants but my favourite is the racing green 3000 from Japan - beautiful device!
Does anyone have a quality source for 2000/3000 replacement screens? It seems like all options I seen out there have a 50/50 shot of having dead pixels or coming damaged in an envelope instead of a box!
I remember buying a 1000 PSP on eBay on firmware 1.5. was before the cell phones so I would be playing and watching movies on the go like crazy
Pretty sure i saw refurbished psp 1000-3000 on aliexpress for like $70-$90 don't know how good they are. But some come with a good amount of accessories like mem card, charger, battery, case, screen protector, etc.
I got a PSP 3001 at a Salvation Army years ago and just now trying to set it up. It has an SD card but system doesn’t recognize it, needs new battery but did come with the power cord and screen protector. Gotta figure out how to use it through my Wi-Fi.
I got a white Japanese 1000 off of eBay for like 80 bucks. I love it so much. PSP is fantastic.
I bought a lot of 3 broken psp's off ebay and 2 of them worked great.
My PSP was $198 brand new when I bought it years ago. So, paying over that for a used PSP is nuts.
Definitely get that GPS, and see how well it routes you to locations. Try to follow them and see how many times you have to turn around! HAHAH!
9:10 Yes, if you hack your psp, you can change its region, meaning the bottom gets swamped.
There's an option to change the x button to o in the (hold The R button when you power it on) recovery menu 😊

I think one of the main reasons most handhelds don't have browsers anymore like the switch are because internet browsers were mainly used for exploits to hack those devices.

Those GPS receivers for the PSP are cheap as hell on ebay, id love to see you try to use it in a video
The JP PSP 3000 blue one, I got mines off ebay. The one I bought off from another person was in mint condition (It was like rarely used) the seller took extreme care with there PSP I want to do the same. It did have a tiny tiny bit of yellowing which is fine its no big deal. I had to get another PSP because the old one I got the black one it's screen started to "peel away" or "separate" which revealed the lighting behind it which causes the visuals to get darker and darker. I overly used that PSP to death.
I still have my original power cords and stuff so they still work like new.

This device helped me understanding WiFi LOL.
I noticed this PSP doesn’t have the metal spring tray for the UMDs. Wondering if it’s a different version or just missing.
Only the 1000 models with the thick battery had that. To reduce the weight in the 2000/3000 they went to manual opening which is less likely to break in the end. I do miss the hefty weight of the 1000 though!

I just recently replaced a UMD drive in my blue 3000 model because the original was on it's way out.
My last PSP my loving little kitty Puny (RIP Baby ❤) peed on several times when I had it put up in a drawer that he could crawl into & I didn't know about! Needless to say it was rusty as heck!

I’ve had good luck from Etsy. A fews ago I got a gameboy micro at a pretty good price. Didn’t have the charger but got a third party that worked fine
Yes, with homebrew you can change Japanese model PSPs to make X select and O back. I did it with my Japanese PSP.
The switch has a browser but I don’t remember how to access it. 1980s gamer has a great tutorial though!
I’m had PSP 2000 red god of war edition. Played a ton of games on it back in the day.

I've been saying for years these machines are awesome for emulation and portability. Pretty much cam play most ps1 games and psp games as well pretty much everything thrpugh the 16bit gen... a few 32bit machines games and some arcade stuff works great.... but unfortunately NeoGeo gets laggy and CPS2 games get weird.

Also... I imagine that you mostly paid the amount you did for it based on color VS the amount of those that were made in that Blue. It is kinda a rare color. I've never seen one in the wild and I know production numbers for that particular color wasnt nearly as high as say the frost white Starwars one or the red God of War editions

I've actually got a turquoise PSP off Ebay, I still use it today, and I love it. The only issues that the L button is broken, but a lot of the games i play don't use it, so we're good.

Still got my 2000. Original battery too, that’s despite me playing it so much. I’m right into homebrew and stuff. Wifi is a problem as most routers don’t support old security settings and PSP doesn’t support the newer settings. I have a wifi extender which I’ve set to allow the PSP to connect

Not to date. Still charges and gives a few hours play.
My original PSP aged well but my UMD discs did not lol.

If the CD spins but it won't read, the problem is most likely the laser. It is absolutely worth fixing with either an ODE or new laser.
order a fenrir for it and just put whole library on an sd card
Depends on how much you like it, instead of the optical drive you could install a Fenrir.

My PSP sat in a box for over 2 years. The battery wouldn't take a charge. Glad they have replaceable batteries.
yeah, it's fairly easy to change the accept/cancel button behavior once it's softmodded

I would love to use my psp but you can't transfer games from my psp due to an update. I don't feel like hacking and ruining thing's worse then they are.
I can still walk into my local pawn shop and find a psp for $60-100. It's very based though not worth being in that part of the city for.
I remember back in the day, I was in Junior High School. I saved up some money that my grandparents used to give me every weekend, plus some money doing extra chores at home and with the neighbors. As a result, I bought a PSP, it was the God of War version and I remember that I played God of War, GTA and of course Midnight Club Dub Edition and Midnight Club LA Remix.
Incredible how much fun I had while I had it.

I recently scored a boxed PSP-2000 for 10$ at a flea market because the seller didn't know if it worked. Turns out it just needed a new battery. It's such a great emulation device.

my fist PSP was japanese PSP. I bought one before arrived in Europe. It were headache jump from game back to PSP OS and back to game.
Nintendo probably didn't put a web browser on the Switch because it was used as an entry point to jailbreak their previous consoles.
I think the GPS accessory would make for a good video.

I have every model psp. Bought em as they came out as "upgrades lol" the one i had doubts was the pspgo. But i needed an mp3 player and gamestop had em for $49.. and i didnt want an ipod so i got a go for that reason. I still have them all. I mostly use my Vita now tho since it runs a psp emulator anyways lol
Psp 3000s are going for over 100. Not sure how you're searching to find them under 100.

I never owned a PSP before but I was a kid when they came out I do have a PS Vita but the battery will not charge so I think it needs to be replaced and I don’t feel comfortable enough to rip it apart and change the battery because usually when I take stuff apart, I can’t put it back together And I rather buy something like this from Amazon because I have never used eBay before and people probably on eBay get scammed a lot. I remember when I was looking for a Xbox series X and you were talking about how they were on eBay and people were getting scammed and they were overpricedand all that stuff but I know if I order something from Amazon and it’s actually shipped and sold by Amazon. I probably won’t get scammed and if I do I can call them and they’re really nice about giving money back or exchanging it.
I was able to hack the vita easy to get the Japanese x and o switched up. So I’m sure the psp has the same option.

Still have my fat psp model the black one and its not too bad though sometimes I play it. I do have it hacked though as well so I can play more than just psp games.
