Keep in mind that if you get into this handheld emulator 'hobby', it is much like the audiophile and mechanical keyboard one where your wallet will be empty most of the time because a new shiny thing pops up constantly as you'll tell yourself that this time it will be your endgame for sure.

Yeah i'm with ekoms. i picked up two rg505's discounted at different times on temu. bought a used targus videolink for hdmi. I use the ps4 controllers from my ps4. its great. i spent under $220 and used what I have and couldn't be happier. if one breaks, i can use the other. if a button goes or a shoulder trigger, I will keep that one docked then. backed up my movie collection too so they also work like a glorified dvd player.

That is true, so I first got Retroid Pocket 2+ because I wasn't sure if I want to spend that much for something.
then I ended up wishing it got more power so I gotten Odin Lite.
then I wishing it is smaller for easier gameplay so I gotten Miyoo Mini Plus.
then I hoping there is an ultimate big device for PC gaming and I gotten ROG Ally.
and then now I am waiting for Odin2.

Love my Miyoo. It’s everything I wanted out of my GBA when I was a kid. I can ftp in from my computer (or phone!) and move roms, artwork, guides, etc. around easily, and it runs everything like a dream. Good battery life and decent ergonomics go a long way for this little handheld. Final Fantasy VI, Metroid Fusion, Minish Cap, F-Zero Climax… they all run amazing - and look even better. Highly recommended.

I’ve have had mine for a month. I primarily play GBA Pokemon games and Mario on the SNES. And let me tell you, if it’s your first emulation device, this thing is perfect. I’ve been kicking back playing Pokemon Emerald everyday after work and it makes me feel like a kid again. I’d just recommend buying your own SD card as the cheap Chinese one it comes with is known to fail after a while. But this thing is awesome, my son loves playing it too.

    @Mindartcreativity Před 8 měsíci +6

Finally you jumped on the Miyoo Mini hype train haha It's really good for what it is and being able to pack all my childhood/teenager games into my pocket is just awesome, especially at that price point. Recently a DS emulator was released for the Miyoo Mini Plus and it runs Pokemon HeartGold decently well (with frameskipping activated). The consoles I mostly play are NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA and now DS. I don't need much more in my pocket.
Edit: I'd also recommend to install custom firmware like OnionOS onto a new high-quality SD card ASAP and build your own game library from scratch. The stock ROMs are often not great quality and the stock SD cards are known to fail over time.

It’s also really easy to mod, I swapped the speaker, and added custom shoulder buttons and a grip to make action/racing/fighting games easier. Onion OS and tiny set roms are a must have. I have the miyoo mini - the real MINI one, without the plus - and it has been a joy to use and take with me as long as you don't have to use the shoulder buttons. Personally I remap the shoulder buttons for Gameboy Advance to the X & Y. That's way more comfortable.
OnionOS is what makes these devices work so great. It's a must for fast pick-up-and-play gameplay, with a great sleep mode and save state management.
Have played through Chrono Trigger on this device this summer while camping (and having quite a few days with absolute shite weather).
Another absolute pro for me is the awesome D-Pad on the Miyoo Mini. It's really that good!

MM+ was sold out at the time and RG35XX was very similar specs and setup-wise, so went with that. These things are great for pick up and go gaming when you don't want bring out something more premium like the Pocket. And as mentioned in other comments, community firmware for these things (Onion OS for MM+ and Garlic OS for RG35XX) really open them up.

I think the rg35xx is the overall best handheld on the market. I love my Odin Pro and my Miyoo Mini Plus, but this handheld just has IT. They captured the Game Boy feel with it perfectly and somehow, other consoles feel right at home here. Sure, there are more powerful handhelds, but up to PS1 is literally a lifetime of gaming in itself. Also, while it may lkack the wifi, connecting to the TV is awesome. I play SNES games I grew up with on this handheld and it doesn't feel awkward. The screen is perfect.

Correction, literally EVERY PS1 games had a "d-pad first", with analogue sticks being an option in later games.Dual analogue sticks wasn't the norm for the PS1 as the console was released without such a controller, it wasn't until years later it became an "accessory" rather than a requirement in games. Even late games like Vagrant Story, Breath of Fire IV, Wipeout 3, Final Fantasy IX, Gran Turismo 2 all have a d-pad fallback. The only game I know of that actually require dual sticks was Ape Escape. The lack of analogue sticks being an issue is completely made up. During that era I owned the OG release PS1 with the OG gamepad, and I used it until the end of the Playstation generation and had no problem with late generation games. Because PS1 software was developed for the original controller, not the dual shock.

I got the black model shipped to me close after launch. Russ from Retro Game Corps helped me pull the trigger on one after his review. When I got it, the screen was damaged so thank God I used Amazon to purchase it since the return was Hassel free. Once I got my replacement, I upgraded it to Onion OS. I use my Miyoo Mini at least once a day because it helps me keep my retro collection at my fingertips and the size and form factor are perfect for the systems it emulates.
Personally, I have found that the screen best fits Sega Genesis games. Just fire up Sonic really quick and you will instantly notice how good the aspect ratio and brightness lends itself to these games.
It's also great for playing Japanese games with English patches on them. For example, I can play a difficult game to emulate like Tengai Makyou Zero on the Super Famicom using the SNES 9x Core through RetroArch.
Another nice feature it has is it's overlays, especially for GB, GBC and GBA. The form factor lends itself quite well to these games and the overlays make it look like there is a Game Boy screen lens on the screen.
If anyone gets the Miyoo Mini, get a bundle with a case and screen protector. It is a bit delicate but it will serve you well as long as you take care of it. Overall, I'm happy with it and it was worth every penny!

Been having fun with my Miyoo mini+ for a couple of weeks now.
On the SD card in the Retroarch folder: create a cpuclock.txt file, inside you write the speed of the cpu.
Example: 1400 (default cpu of the Miyoo mini/ mini+ is 1200).
Heavier games run a bit better and the fast forward in many games will be faster, as this makes the CPU run at full speed.

Anyone who knows the limitations going in should be in for quite a great deal though. Amazing what we can get nowadays for handhelds.

It's a good system if you get one free of defects. Unfortunately it's very much luck of the draw. I ended up picking up two of these and both had some issues. The first one I picked up from the official store has a speaker with above average distortion at medium - high volumes. The second one from an Amazon seller for about $10 more than official store had a bad D pad. Got an exchange for that one because of Amazon's return policy and the exchange unit had a loose screen (as you pointed out, adhesive tape isn't very sturdy). Ended up returning the exchanged item and got my money. I went ahead and got a Anbernic RG35XX and has been fantastic without any issues for months now. At this point I strongly prefer it over my Mini plus.

I'm going to try hooking up wifi on the 35XX for one-handed play of rpg's. The MM+ is nice, and I'm going to keep it for now, but it's not my current preference.

The hobby lets you buy a new shiny thing each month but I don't want to buy stuff I wont use . If my powkiddy breaks, the miyoo which released 3 or 4 years later is the current next best thing. My suggestion is to try a device in your budget and stick with it, by the time it breaks something else even better will be around

I got it when it first came out (around the beginning of this year I think), still picking it up and playing it to this day. Not as much as the Retroid though, that gets picked up the most. Honestly I like when I have a reason to pick the Miyoo up more, but the reality is the Retroid is just on and ready to go because it’s android. Plus I don’t really play platform heavy games on the Miyoo, so my wonder boy in monster world play through, ended up on the Retroid. Highly suggest for the Miyoo is looking into Pico 8 and RPG maker games, it’s a great system to enjoy your library of newer retro inspired games. Rogue likes and RPGs are just so much easier to enjoy on this system.

It's the go-to gift for all the people around me that want to get into emulation mainly for GB, GBC and GBA, i.e. all of my Gen X friends. Prepare them a good SD card with OnionOS and the games they truly love, and they'll be perfectly set up. It's the right size, battery life's good and they really don't even need to ever update it. Sure, OnionOS will gain even more features over time, but once you've started to play your 7-10 favourite games, you'll simply use the quick switch feature without ever going into the system.

So for example if i wanted to take this on a flight, and i'm playing just PS1 games, the high power consumption games, i want to be able to do a quick state save, and swap out the battery, start it back up and keep playing.
