  • In this video, part 3 in the series, Andy (Kent Survival) and continue our adventure in the wilds of Sweden and Norway.
We leave our overnight camp spot after fuelling up on blueberry pancakes and bacon and begin the long, rocky portage down to lake Rogen - a big lake that will take us across to Norway.
Our paddle starts off well with a gentle headwind as we head along the inlet and towards the main expanse of the lake itself. Once around the headland though, things take a different course and we are faced with a tough paddle into the wind for the rest of the day - hour after long hour.
Finally, exhausted, we reach the southern shore and find a place to set up camp for our third night in Sweden. And luck was on our side this time - third time lucky - we find an official camp spot with a fire pit, a rock shelter and firewood. We deserved it this day!
I hope you enjoy the video,
    Thanks for watching.

Absolutely been loving watching you on this adventure. I have watched many adventure videos over the years which have literally cost 10s of thousands of pounds to produce with professional support and film crews ect, yet you, a one man band not forgetting Andy make your productions far more interesting because your viewers know that it is you alone with no expensive entourage or support crew that has produced such good quality material. Your doing something I can but only dream about due to my disabilitys which make it hard work just pitching up in my back garden, by watching your videos you take me on the journeys with you, I actually feel as I'm sat at the side of you and I'm enjoying your adventures with you. This may sound like am crazy but mentally I'm actually refreshed, I'm 67yrs old and I worked outside most of my life and my holidays with my family was also outdoors camping in the forests, like I said I camp when I have the energy only in my back garden this also helps me mentally as I awake in the mornings at the break of dawn to the morning chorus I feel like I'm back in the forests. Many many thanks for all the hard work you put into your videos, and a great big thanks to your family for letting you do what you do for us all. I'll see you in your next video, until then keep safe.

Keep up the good work, sir. Again, I look forward to the next video. Cheers!

sad breaks for Andy. Always a hard paddle when that wind is blowing at you and the waves are trying to continually spin you. Especially on a large open body of water. Glad you made it across and to a beautiful place to camp. A famous writer once said that days and trips that have no "problems" are fine and dandy but adventure comes when things don't go so well and make wonderful tales for the telling IF, you live through them. Or something to that note. Thanks, Simon for taking us along as always. I appreciate all the extra work you do to make that happen. AND you do it so well that I feel like I have experienced it with you. ATB

well its a bit late but if you have a head wind its advisable to put more weight in the front of the canoe.. as the canoe wants the highest end to go down wind. if i remember correctly bill mason demonstrates this in the video path of the paddle - solo basics.. anyway looks amazing over there and looks like great fun😎😊

Another option for balancing weight in a canoe is to put another “bloke”in the bow. Could you not have gotten all your gear in one canoe?

The wind will always pick up on big lakes by late morning or early afternoon. I have been known to wake up at 5:00AM and be on the water asap to avoid the winds. I also always choose a fast canoe. I consider a fast canoe to be a safe canoe.

I need to keep reminding myself that although I see this kind of landscape in other camping videos, that they are in Canada's Lake Region and in Northern U.S. where you might expect to find the same landscape. You are not accustomed to the same sort of canoe experience back where you live. It's normally rivers and much smaller bodies of water. So this is new for you, (other than the Loch Ness trip)! So I'm appreciating how much you and Andy are appreciating the experience. Too bad luck for Andy though. I'll pray things go better from here on out.

Great video, looks like a much nicer night with a proper fire and cook up. Much needed after that slog of a day!! 💪🏻

Great video Simon. Glad you're still smiling despite the tough crossing and I guess your feeling it for Andy as well. Poor bloke. What a nightmare, the jacket, the film footage plus last year's sickness. 😔

Great video Simon! Situation well managed on your part. Once Andy lost his jacket it changed the dynamic somewhat. Luckily the weather was good but the wind made life difficult. Andy certainly exhausted which may have lead to situations down track. All in all you both survived and got away with it. I think a ‘Lessons Learnt’ video to wrap up the adventure would be of benefit. Anyway, well done👍

I got a little indication of how the trip went/was going when I got Andy's video pop up in my feed and read his title haha.
Great videos as always Simon, really enjoying them. That lunch of beef jerky and instant noodles was a definite choice.

Hi guys! Nice to watch the tour I did with my wife and two buddies in 2013. A nostalgic tear twisted in my eye. Like everyone else, I appreciate your nice and positive attitude and good film editing. The only thing that amazes me is the kitchen. We were determined to catch fish at every opportunity, baking them with vegetables on the fire or, when there weren't enough of them, making fish soup. Your pancakes with bacon and topped with syrup are a culinary shock to me :) Well, everyone eats what they like :) Regards!

I’m glad it brought back some happy memories! To be honest, I would have loved to have caught fish to eat rather than take all the heavy food we took haha - but I am only too aware of my abilities 😂

Lol, when you put on subtitles it says "Thank you" when the waves hits the canoe. ☺️
And Norrlands Guld, how can you like that yellow water? Try Stigbergets Amazing Haze next time. Its from Göteborg and they have several different sorts. Really, really good.
