Wilderness Canoe Adventure - Part 4. Descending the River Røa in Norway. White Water Rapids.

- In this video, part 4 in the series, Andy (Kent Survival) and I cross over the border into Norway and begin our descent of the River Røa.
We head off from our last camp spot in Sweden and paddle the last two kilometres to the start of the river in the Fermundsmarka National Reserve. Some rapids we run, others we line the canoes down and some we take the safest option and portage the canoes and gear down - its a remote area, so safety is paramount.
Between the river sections and flowing water are calm open lakes, a nice gentle interred before the next excitement and a time to enjoy our surroundings.
As evening draws, we look for a good place to set up camp and we find a lovely spot next to a lake where we enjoy the evening with a fire and some well earned dinner.
Norway feels very different to the Swedish side of the border - more wild, more rugged and the excitant of the river has changed the tempo of the trip.
I hope you enjoy the video,
Thanks for watching.

Thank you Simon and Andy. I know filming your trip makes it so much more 'longwinded' for you guys, and yeah I get why you do it, but anyway I for one seriously appreciate that you do! Retired back in the UK now, but enjoyed 20years of the British Colombian Bush and West Coast I know only too well why Scandinavia is so appealing. Here's to many more trips with you folks!
30 years, Yukon girl. And I know BC well. And these Vides. Make me feel young again. And remind me of the places here in Yukon that I have kayak, fished and hunted. And I thank you boys as well.
Your morning scenes were beautiful and spectacular. Incredible work.
Thanks, Simon
Awesome dawn morning time guys. What a truly stunning place you have chosen to take your adventure and bring us along
Thanks for the journey thus far. Bushyboy Oz.
I'm catching up on videos I've missed. This was such a great one! You are such a talented videographer, always informative, and you choose beautiful music.
Superb camera work Simon. Thank you for taking the time out to film and share your experience with Andy. Speaking of which, I sincerely hope he’s forgotten about the bad losing his coat etc and can look back on what a fantastic time you both must have had.
Beautiful vid Simon - thanks for another good one !
Proper Jack Duckworth mend 😂. You have to be the most prepared person I watch.
If I ever get caught out in the wilderness, I want to be with you 😂
haha kit-tree :) Great vid Simon.
Simon, a bloke on the River Røa. Your morning sunrise & subsequent images were out standing! The texture of the moss & the old fallen tree near your hammock... what can I say, other than so impressive. Thank you again for sharing your excursions with us.
EDIT: I always appreciate the music you choose for your episodes. Soothing & comforting.
Two words. AWARD WINNING! Well, maybe one more. OUTSTANDING!
Thank you!!
Love seeing the repair for the glasses
So cool
I carry 2 small tubes (1 or 2 uses) of super glue in my first aid kit, it can close wounds or repair glasses, along with other things. Really enjoying this series.
After Andy's mishaps on this one do you think he'll want to do this kind of trip again? Great entertainment but didn't look much fun for him.
I love Andy's videos and think he's a great bloke who's done well for himself but these videos really do separate the youtubers from the actual outdoorsman. Obviously simon is a CZcamsr as well but he's an outdoorsman who makes CZcams videos. There's a difference. Much respect to both Simon and Andy both great at what they do. Andy dose have the edge on the cooking videos though haha.
Great video Simon I really get a feel of the place and the challenges....Not for the faint hearted .You guys are obviously great friends and it shows.Hoping for some joint autumn winter trips together too ...🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🏅🏅🏅🏅Missed Chef Andy's creation in this one......
I’m not sure he’d be up for anything quite as challenging as this trip - it was a tough one!
Loving the Crocs. Essential footware for the bushcraft / canoeing fraternity. Never let style get in the way of practicality. Lesson I learned when passing the 40yrar old milestone.
Agreed. I tend to live in Crocs.
Another top adventure Simon well done to you and Andy 👍🏻
Absolutely! Function over form any day 😁
Those branches you scouted covered the land like a bunch of old bones.
A campfire and good meal , plus a beer . Great way to spend the night with good company.
Very beautiful video, the music is calming as ever you are a gentleman, thank you for taking us on your great adventure with Andy.
Very nice to have the feeling of sitting with you by the campfire.. ;-)
That was truly amazing Simon! What a beautiful video! Great filming, editing and some great music added! I am impressed how your work gets better and better!
Looks like you are enjoying Scandinavia a lot! I am still waiting to see that moose you’re longing to find! Glad that you got to see some reindeer anyway!
Still looking for that elusive moose!! 😂
@@simonablokeinthewoods you have drive a car at dusk. Then you see them more often than you want to!
Thank you , Simon .
🐺 Loupis Canis .
I’ve now finished watching every single video on this channel. I’m sad that I’ve run out! But I do look forward to Thursdays for a new one :)
great opening sequence you have a pleasing photographic eye
This is a wonderful series of your current adventures with Andy! I have enjoyed every second of these posts. Thank you for sharing with us. It is incredibly beautiful scenery and your recording of it has been inspired! Safe travels to you and Andy. Take care!
So peaceful out on the lakes 😊
The Mrs would like to inform Andy that those wooden tongs he's using are for toast.
A Dynamic Duo!! My Idols 👍👍
Thankyou Simon and Andy for taking me along on this lovely trip. It's something that I will never get a chance to do or see so to see it through your videos is the only way I'll get to enjoy this beautiful scenery and that lovely crystal clear water. It would have been tiring but rewarding at the same time, just knowing what you have accomplished. Thankyou.
Wonderful trip Simon, been watching both yours and Andy's. Many thanks for sharing.
Must have been a really wonderful trip, memories to last a lifetime Simon!
Out f fresh food…but not out of beer! Great planning!
Ah me! 50 years since I was last in Norway, but what a lovely place. I (we) managed better with the fishing though, we just decided whether we wanted trout or sea fish for dinner, and went out and caught them every day. Mind you, we were on a fishing holiday.. I loved the video Simon, it brought back memories. Thank you. Les
Simon, you need to get yourself some Sugru for fixing your glasses, it's great stuff ... developed by an Irish girl !
What a great trip and such a beautiful landscape. I'm very jealous.
You look in your element out there, enjoying every second. Sadly, and having watched Andy's videos, he looks to be frequently crying out 'I'm not a canoeist' get me out of here!' If you decide to do another trip like this, please persuade Andy to take some proper lesson in paddling so that he can enjoy it more.
Al
I think he’d have enjoyed the trip more if he had had some proper tuition beforehand (rather than just my tips! 😂)
Brilliant trip as always guys
I really believe Andy needed Simon more than Simon needed Andy on this trip😂
Wow, such an excellent video - the music, the photography, the commentary - all of it. So well done! Thank you!
Thank you, Simon - again I get to see something so beautiful and awesome that I will never get to see firsthand. It is sooooooo great. Really looking forward to the next one.
.. "well I don't want to paddle in a membrane canoe with a knife in my belt"...priceless wisdom...lol..too funny!
No fish were harmed in the making of this video! 😂
😂😂😂
Wow. The B roll in the beginning is absolutely beautiful 😍 another wonderful video thanks for sharing!
Hello Norway Tourism Bureau. Could it be enough to pay for a new Land Rover????
Video - very well done! Trip planning - A little less so. I realize that heavy protein meals are Andy’s trademark, but it looked like your food/beer kit was way too heavy! And while crocs are comfy I really think you were mislead about the portages - hiking boots would have been much better given how tortuous they were, And Andy needed more time in a canoe given the intensive effort this trip required. You probably have other lessons to share - will you do a post-mortem?
Great stuff Simon, epic sunrise and views of the lakes. We were all glad that you woke up early..🙂
Really enjoying this series of videos, such a different terrain and as you looked into the distance, it seemed to go on for ever...👍🏻
Another great video chaps.
Can't say I'd be that keen on the canoeing. Water not for me.
After a hectic day at work and a knee injury that’s keeping me off the trails at the moment your videos keep me sane Simon, thank you for all your efforts making these videos, as always truly inspiring 👍🏻atb Pete.
Absolutely fantastic video as always! Thanks Simon for making such great content! Think I'm going to have to start canoeing after watching all these 🙂
Fantastic videos so far Simon, really enjoying watching both yours and Andy's different perspectives. I know it takes a lot of time and effort but we really appreciate it, and always look forward to your next episode.
Gorgeous production! I am getting involved in the trip, as if I was sitting next to you by the fire pit. I had almost thrown a piece of wood into it.
Thank you so much for this shared adventure.
Waited all week for this. Thanks!
Such a pleasure to watch, as always! 👍🛶 Love your positive spirit, Simon! Oh, and finally on the right side of the border! 😅 😂 🇧🇻
Haha 😉🇳🇴 Thanks Lise!
Lol!
Great video Simon. What a world we live in.
Enjoying every minute of your journey. Thank you for going to the effort making these video diaries.
Super resourceful Simon with the glass repair, I love it 👍
10:27 ...."I'm stuck!"..😂🤣😭🤣
Another wonderful video! Thanks for taking us along!
Nice series 😁 Going there this sunmer i hope. Cant wait 🥰
Wish you vould list the next/all episodes in the description of these videos. Cause CZcams hardly never suggests the next one, so have to go in you profile to dig out the next one every time 🙈
Simon, you and your adventures are inspiring. It’s rekindle my need to get out into the woods and canoe the rivers. Thank you.
A Grand Adventure indeed. Such beautiful countryside, challenges for sure yet you and Andy persist and are making fabulous memories. So beautiful.
Wonderful cinematography Simon. And, Andy is a perfect foil for your chat. Just love it👍😎KTF🙏
Another great episode! Beautiful country, and great footage of it. Thanks for taking us along. It looks like the hammocks were a good choice!
What a fantastic trip and great videography. So inspiring!
"Occulus Reparo" - that's a versatile repair "glue". Paddle trolling is a practice I've been doing a lot and it's good fun. Dry seasoned dead pine just smells wonderful and it burns hot and bright. Very inspirational video Simon!
“We’ve not drunk enough tea ☕️ on this trip “
“ nah tell me about it “
Sooo English if you lads hahaha I love it
Thank you both for another superb Video. Really enjoying the series Simon. Thank you.
What a trip, looks stunning.
Fantastic. Thank you. All the best. 👍🐾🐾😎

Ah what an adventure and what a joy to join your trip through the film. Thx again for the experience :)
Well done to you and Andy for this great series of vlogs, it's no mean feat to go over to that side and explore, nice to see some wildlife out there too. Well done and keep em coming !
Great sunrise and another great video
Have been following yours and Andy's trip with great interest Simon, such beautiful landscape. I have to say your videos are put together really well and are very watchable, you seem to be in your element. cheers mate.
Great Video .. Hope you enjoyed Femundsmarka
An awesome video of your Scandinavian adventure with Andy. Be safe in your travels & God be with you!!
Thank you, I see again something so beautiful and amazing that I will never see it with my own eyes. You seem to really come alive and thrive in the wild. It fires up my need to get out into the woods and canoe down the rivers.
Another brilliant film. Looks so beautiful out there. Thanks again for taking us along. :)
We just love Wednesday evening watching your CZcams videos. This is a spectacular trip with wonderful scenery. Thank you for sharing

What an intro ! That sunrise was amazing! In fact the whole video was gorgeous...Well done, you've really captured the beauty of your surroundings 😃
Great part 4 🏞🏕👍Norway 🇳🇴 is definitely something else!👌
Oh Wow. I love this video and the attention you put into presenting the details. I also like the passiveness and music that was presented. I enjoyed it, thanks, Simon.
Another great video Simon. It's interesting to see the different filming styles between Andy and yourself. Norway looks STUNNING! I love the scenery so far. Gorgeous. Thank you for bringing us on your journey.
Your canoe adventures with Andy are inspiring. Managed a number of british river trips but Scandanavia looks amazing, thank you for sharing. Your pack cnaoes look fantastic for the job.
Thanks Simon for sharing your fantastic adventure enjoyed watching your fantastic adventure 👍👌👏
Wow! I just started at part 4. Going back to the beginning next. Beautiful wilderness. Great to see your gear. I’m truly envious, I’m along for the ride though. Thanks
Great adventure.
Norway is absolutely gorgeous! I thought you lost your canoe!
Thanks
Really enjoyed that as an unwind after work…awesome filming and editing….. thanks for taking the time to share it. 👌
Love it, so beautiful only sad part is knowing Andy had such a tough time with the loss of the jacket and equipment issues. Another trip to pop on the board to be planned
Excellent editing! Very enjoyable to watch.
Nice one Simon great video i watch all keep up the great job
Awesome shots, glad the wind gave you two a break.
Thanks for taking us along on your adventure. You really seem to come alive and thrive in the wild; poor Andy seems to prefer the comfort of home, I think. Beautiful rugged country, the sunrise was amazing. Be well
Great daze out there, oooh those beers,I can taste them!!😉👌
Simon my friend you are living the dream!
Excellent video Simon what locations stunning Well done All the best Cheers BK
So enjoying your trip ! The peace (apart from the sound of the rivers) must be bliss, something one can rarely experience in the U.K. 😎
I really enjoy these expeditions you head out on. The repairing of your glasses was brilliant, and i love picking up on tricks to fix things when you are out in the wild. You are a wild MacGuyver! Keep it up
Hard slog for Andy but I hope he found enjoyment outside the challenges and hard luck. Like to see you both collaborating in videos. All the best and amazing adventure.
Now is the time of our lives, not tomorrow, not yesterday but right now. 👍✌🥃good show
nice trip. good luck
