- Join me and Maggie as we head to the woods for a sub zero overnight camp during the 'Beast from the East' Siberian snow storm. We spend the night in my modified Polish Army Lavvu hot tent, with my 50. cal ammo can wood stove keeping us warm and toasty, cooking on the wood stove and eating our way through a British army 24hr ration pack - lovely! I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!
Great video. Such a peaceful place. Anyone else think this guy is a kind soul?
Thank you Rick! Atb, Simon
he is i agree
@@lornaprested6975 - me too, he seems like a really nice bloke with a good heart.
Definately a kind soul
Yes, I believe he’s as we say in the US ‘good people’ ………btw, am I the only one who cracked up watching the way he first looked at that maple bread?? Lol the look was one of wth do I do with this?!
I too am addicted these camping videos, I watch in bed before dozing feeling very warm, cosy and content with the world.
Just like me. After a hectic day, camping vids are my therapy
You’re easily pleased 😀
I'm the same love Kent Survival too ,Haze ,and a few others 🙂
Annie I think you will see we all share the same need to be in a confined /warm/ outside cold space to send us to sleep . We are a race of our own believe it or not and a nice sharing community too
@@roddymcniven8734 oiye!
Great video mate , what a lovely pooch, sorry she is no longer with us .
1.5 million views!! (at the time of my writing this). I wonder how many folks have watched this several times over as I have. Simon's videos are so serene-many thanks for your time, effort, and devotion to making these for us.
Love your videos Simon. You and Andy are my favorite. Don't ever stop!!
”I thought I might just continue eating my way through this ration pack” 👌🏽
Hahaha - I’m such a pig! Cheers, Simon
Kiera Kiers I thought that was funny too! 👍🏼👍🏼😂
K. Kiers hahahaha I like that too 🙏😆
😂😂
A man. His dog. A tent. And a 24 hour ration pack. Good times.
Thanks for the video.
Aww poor Maggie. Although she looked at you with pure devotion and I can tell that you gave her a good life. I am slowly digging backwards you see. When you bond with an animal, you learn ways of communicating that isn't easy but, you create a special bond. that is all we can do for our animals. miss her as I am sure you do. she was a character in the videos.
Couldn't sleep at 4am so rewatching some of your Vids Simon... I realised how much of my life I watch you eating 😂🙏... Brilliant
Dogs are just the most amazing critters
"Oh hey dad, we're in a tent in the snow, not doin' nuffin'. That's great. I love being with you. I'll just sleep till you need me, kay?"
This should have been titled "Watch Simon eat a 24 hour ration pack in 12 minutes!"
That describes my whole military career.
And listen to his fury friend snore!
Cool video man. Thanks for taking us along with the winter camping trip. I enjoyed it.
I don’t understand this obsession I have watching people camping out overnight in bad weather conditions but dammit, keep them coming!
Also get yourself a carbon monoxide alarm for when using that stove my man.
Haha - something about other people’s discomfort! Good point about the co alarm, I do have one and used it for the first few outings - never went off, so I’ve become a bit complacent - I need to keep it in my stove bag so I’ve always got it! Safety first! Atb, Simon.
100% agreed pure joy to watch , and great point about the carbon monoxide alarm
I seem to have the same addiction. Also I keep having apocalyptic type dreams. Huge sink holes and such. I really should turn my wife off at night. (Edit) for wife see Wi-fi. Bloody auto correct.
The dog is the star of the show.
Bad weather? I'm assuming you're talking Celcius, right? -5C is a balmy winter afternoon here in Minnesota... -30C is not all that unusual overnight here. He didn't have GLOVES on in the morning? You'd be missing fingers by lunchtime over here, sir. All of that being said, I'd like to try out that tent/stove setup on a cold night here! Looks like it would do the trick!
After watching this .I want to put a basha up in the garden and get the hex I stove going .Love it .Cheers Simon .
Just a suggestion for your next winter camping, if possible it some pine or fir branches underneath for insulation, works great!
I always use a windproof lighter, it's less clever,but quick 😁(not cheating)😂
A snoring dog is a truly comfortable doggo.
It was the soundtrack to my evening -very soothing! Cheers, Simon (and Maggie!)
You know in Australia the Aborigine's call some cold evenings 3 dog nights.
Belissimo video very Limpo,organizado,inteligente 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😄🏕🇧🇷👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👋🏿
Enjoyed every minute of That and it's 3am. The coffee reaction was brilliant.
Thank you! 😁👍
That MRE kit is awesome! This whole set up is pretty awesome actually. I've always wanted to camp in the snow with a hot tent. It looks really fun. I love camping and warm fire on a cold night.
Awesome video!
When I was younger my brother and I did a lot of winter backpacking in snow.
We really enjoyed it because we usually had the parks to ourselves.
Love these videos, please keep them coming.
Thank you so much for a great vid. No useless talking to pad it out.Loved it, I will be on the lookout for more. Thanks again.
Rod
Thanks Rod! Appreciated! Atb, Simon
As ever, great stuff, Simon! Thanks so much for bringing us all along.
Cheers Donald - thanks for coming along! Atb, Simon.
The sound of the stove opening and trembling in the heat is magical...
Hopefully more hot tenting this year. Love the tent mods! Best on YT!
you looked like you really enjoyed that.
so did we thanks good skills by the way 😃
Such a cool set up! That bow saw is terrific! I cracked up when the eating started and kept going! 😂🤣😂 Great appetite you!
I really ENJOYED watching your vlog so interesting
Wow what a beautiful soul you are sir . Stumbled upon this video but feel more like guided by angels . Thank you for being you and so authentic n kind . God bless you
Ah, A Awesome Video again, Simon. I really enjoyed it and see'n Maggie🐶out & About with you too. Thanks for your video's🎥so much.
Thanks Danny - I appreciate the support and glad you enjoyed it! Atb mate, Simon.
Very nice camping in snow .it looks so cozy and beautiful.
Thank you! It certainly was comfy and cozy! I love the snow - we don’t get enough of it here in the UK! Cheers, Simon
Simon, a bloke in the woods yes I know bcz I have been in many winters there. But I have seen lot of snow falls in us.thanx for message.
Sis i have seen here only u although no pakistani ever i have seen who like these videos full of adventure
Strange to see your comment. Mostly pakistani pplz didn't watch this kinda content
@@simonablokeinthewoods Heh, ain't that the sad and sorry truth. I used to cycle-commute in SE England and London, and now in Cambridgeshire, and ever since the lovely couple of winters around 2008-2010 I've been missing some proper snow to try my luck against (I've taken a ten-year break from owning a car, or I'd drive somewhere with more entertaining winters.)
Thoroughly enjoyable! I miss tent camping.
I love the Lavvu. TYVM Simon.
great video.... i really enjoyed every minute!
greetings from cologne, germany
arthur
Thank you Arthur! Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching! 👍 Atb, Simon.
Great vid Matey. I though of pitching Friday evening in the Lavvu and cried off !!! Good thing as we woke up on Sat morning to 7 foot snow drifts. The Beast from the East hit us hard. Local farmer came to dig us out on Sunday !! Take care Bud.
Cheers Johnny! Lucky you didn’t!! We had drifts, but not that bad!!! Mind you, that would have been a good test for the lavvu! Atb mate, Simon.
Great video. Love the 50. cal ammo can wood stove. I need to make myself one
Wonderful video and you are also a respectable person
Great video mate! Love Maggie, she's beautiful! The beast from the east.. The media.. Lol.. Australia saw the "Arctic Blast" back in July 2015.. The most snow in 30 to 50 years for allot of places though Australia. Including Stanthorpe, I was 100km from there at the time.. It was the talk of the region! There was a rush on warm clothes and blankets, heaters.. All sorts. It's keeping warm while camping through winter, is one the greatest challenges faced. Australia's no exception.
An edit:- a year later, the "Antarctic Blast".. Lol
Hahaha - got to love the media! Hard to imagine an arctic blast in Australia! Then again, I remember pulling on layer after layer when I crossed over the blue mountains in NSW and thinking to myself ‘this isn’t what I was expecting, where’s the red dusty outback?’ Little did I know I’d have days of it ahead across the Nullabor! Wishing for a cooling breeze! Glad you enjoyed the video mate, Atb, Simon.
I totally though mags was “wifey” now I see who mags is lol
When a 24hr ration pack becomes a 4hr ration pack 😂
Great video. Looked so relaxing and cosy in that tent. Just bought a hot tent myself 👍
I think that was fantastic. You looked do cozy in the tent and the wood stove must have been great. Your beautiful dog for company. Magic!
Just going back through all your old videos and this one had me laughing. Maggie bouncing around was really lovely to watch, but her snoring!!!
an old ammo canister as a wood stove, brilliant 👍
I know right? I noticed that also....
I think he has a video about its construction, too.
I have been using one for ten years now. Works great. I can get maintain 700 degrees on the cooking surface.
Just rewatched, love this one pal, say hi to the pooch for me.
Charisma
That’s a good dog you have there!!! Great to see she was on the team
Thanks Simon, I thoroughly enjoyed that!
I Googled the tent to see where I might get one..!!! That's a great piece of handiwork...the stove is also a fine piece of craftsmanship. Great stuff..
It really is...Staying above freezing is priceless...
Robert Shand Try a good military surplus store. MajorSurplus.com on left USA coast or Coleman’s.com on eastern USA. colemans.com/teepee-style-camping-tent-3-person
Outstanding camp and set up! Looked like a great time.
Thankyou Simon and Maggie - most enjoyable
Excellent vid, spent a few years in the uk military and went through many a ration pack but the Canadian one’s when I was out there training in deep snow tasted so good!
Hello Simon, love to see new inputs... the handling with the saw for tiny diameter branches, a lavu with sown-in flloor sheat, rhe stove with enough capacity to make a meal & last but not least: down to earth fact finding comments without personal 'whining' .
Thos last mentioned is too often in US / Canadian vids.
Stay healthy and thanks plus greetings from Holland.
Thank you! Really glad you enjoyed the video. Using the saw that way makes cutting much quicker and easier for the small stuff anyway. Cheers and Atb, Simon.
14:53- absolutely beautiful the way the clouds came in and covered out the sunlight.
Looks depressing.. :(
@@undefinednull5749 that's truly unfortunate my friend. My condolences for your bleak outlook on clouds moving across the sky and covering the sunlight. I'll offer some words of encouragement. They'll move on and the sun will be revealed again. Lol!
@@nahnotforme9819 haha, thanks for making me laugh :).
Nevertheless, I love sunlight.
Love to try this camping in the snow overnight thing, keep it safe Simon, blessings from usa
Absolutely love what you do. Especially the collaboration with Andy (Kent Survival) great stuff.
In our old C-rations we used to get big packets of cocoa. I have never found civilian equivalents. Mixed it with coffee sometimes, mostly not. Good stuff!
30:20 He asks the dog “you’re alright?” and the dog answers 😂😂😂😂
Enjoyed the vid, it was very practical and educational. I almost felt as if i was also present. Considering im in the east and its Winter temp is negative 27 F but feels like 23 F degrees. Thank you for sharing.
Such a relaxing gripping watch. Absolutely love the vids, thank you for bringing them to us.
All the best
I like the vertical saw action (thinking outside the box)
Cheers Chris - it’s much more efficient for thinner logs, still use it conventionally for the thicker ones though. 😁 Atb, Simon.
The Polish Army gets nice tents. I wonder what other nice stuff they get. My dad was in the British Army. Our stuff seemed quite rubbish compared to USA, Germany et al. Laughed out loud at your reactions. Well it is late, past midnight. You just seem naturally funny 😄 Thanks for letting me live vicariously in a tent in the middle of winter whilst I’m as snug as a bug in a rug in my bed.
Thank you Stephanie! Some of the old kit issued to soldiers back in the day was certainly heavy and clunky - I wouldn’t have wanted to carry it far!! 😂
Glad you enjoyed the video. 😁👍
Keeping active, hydrated and with plentiful hot food is a big part of maintaining as much comfort in body and mind as possible when camping outdoors in inclement weather. Impressed that such a small stove produced so much heat, albeit with a large stockpile of prepared wood. Well done.
I have found them very comfortable. Its great to be able to rotate the cover to control drafts & smoke from the fire & to peel the top cover back & let the sun in too. The floor is very comfortable once covered with rushes & sheepskins.
Much love! from USA
Maggie snoring.....perfect shot for what I assume was a warm, soul-soothing and peaceful evening.
Yes, she’s a noisy bugger! Bit it was soothing! Atb, Simon.
Not all the way through yet. Question comes to mind... food for Maggie?
Ahhh, I see the dry food. You thought of everything. She's your pal
She is! Best camp companion. Happy Christmas! Simon
@@simonablokeinthewoods look like she had her fluffy winter coat on, too!
I was totally ignorant about theses tents, i appreciated your video, thanks !
I love this video. Great time in the woods Simon and pal..
thanks man i enjoyed alot! so fun to watch 'n listen to wat u sayin! ive got polish poncho tent too so i'll try somthn similar as u. but i cant stitches soz start from gettin ground sheat or so aye!
Cheers! A groundsheet is a good start! Some people put the flue through one of the arm holes with some sort of heat shield - then there is no need to sew anything! 👍 Atb, Simon.
Looked like a great time Simon. ATB
Cheers Abe! Nice, cosy, food filled night! Atb, Simon.
Wow 😃.. I enjoyed every minute .. thanks .
Fanatic video, Great to watch.
You take care too Simon, and stay safe.
Simon - I really enjoyed your video. Good job mate.
Thanks Carl! Atb, Simon.
I love, love, love, the ammo can stove of yours Simon! Brilliant!
Great video, Very enjoyable watching.
my friend that is good ! Please never stop making this kind of videos
Keep up the great work 👌🏻
Thank you! 👍
brilliant, a fellow lavvu lover - subscribed.
Cheers Garry, oh, yes, love me lavvu! Thanks for the sub! Atb, Simon.
Enjoyable as ever....am a lavvu user (with A frame outside, as I'm a big bugger!) and the 24 hr ration boxes!!
I thoroughly enjoy your adventures....I am a 73 year old antique little girl..;;;I have had health issues that limit my abilities......therefore I get to enjoy your outdoor adventures with Maggie....I think I will try some of your suggestions with my little Sweet Pea.....life can se fun...even at 73
Always looking for ideas to stay warm and be outside. But hey I am from the state of Minnesota, United States. The states of Minnesota and North Dakota get so exceptionally cold in winter, that they place just behind Alaska. Like the tent and stove! I spend two weeks outside in winter every year but it can be expensive the way I do it. I appreciate the budget camping!!
Love the technique of moving the wood on the saw.
Crowe
Cheers Geoffrey! It’s really efficient for the thinner logs. Atb, Simon.
Right good video. I’m extremely impressed with your tent! I’ll be looking for one soon...thank you for reviewing it. I’d say the survival meal is a great bit of kit!
Thanks Marty. The tent is homemade mate, made from a modified Polish Army poncho shelter. 👍
I have never seen such a fantastic journey with the little dog you guys are doing great job literally i like snow very much i hope to watch your every video in snow like this It seems good it feels like in actual with me...
Glad to see you didn't give any of the rat-pack contents to Maggie, that might have been considered cruelty to animals!! :)
Maggie is so cute!
Hot camping and beating winter at her own game. Priceless. Cheer Simon! Skillet
That stove is great. I’m going to try and build one this weekend from your design. Thanks for the inspiration. Now I just need to get a nice tipi
BASE 5ive , many CZcams videos for ammo can stoves. I prefer a 120mm can; taller than .50cal allowing longer pipe sections and an internal baffles for better heat extraction. Stack a layer of damp firewood under the stove to dry prior to burning along with MRE pouches to prewar them.
That polish lavvu modified is super !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you - glad you like it! 👍 Atb, Simon.
No kurła zajebiste😁 pozdrawiania dla naszych" odwiecznych sojuszników" z UK
thank you for this video
Cheers Kev! Atb, Simon
Very much enjoyed. Thank you
Thank you so much Simon for showing the inside of your tent with your sleep system plus your gear. It 'truly' helps us determine whether there will be enough room for our uses should we decide to buy this tent or one very similar.
Great video Simon, loved it and good to see the lavvu out :) plus an added ration review ;) ATB - Andy
Cheers Andy - had to be done - we might not get snow again for another 3 years!! The ration pack was good - but I’ll leave the reviews to you mate - you are the rat pack master!! Do love that Hot Chocolate!!! Atb, Simon.
yeah, I got out for 1 night too, I was doing the snow dance for days.. clearly worked haha. cheers.. the orange hot choc is better ;)
Well, it’s only one small step from snow dance to spam dance!! Lol!
hahaha
Are you on the South Coast?
Simon awesome video and outing, loads of room in that tent. I am hoping to get an Arctic 5 Man Bell tent as my prospector Tent is large for one or two guys and does eat wood in our winter conditions. The setup of yours is awesome. I leave a small sleigh at the tent now for hauling wood around during the day, makes it so much easier. Maggie looks like she enjoyed herself. I bought an ammo can and was going to make a stove with it but realized for our winters it would be fruitless in all reality. I have a new Kni-co that I need to burn in and use yet but waiting for the tent. I may build a small collapsible stove yet this summer. Awesome video once again. Cheers Fred
Thanks Fred! A sleigh is a really good idea - luckily I didn’t have to go far to collect my firewood, and that little stove doesn’t get through much really, but if I was out for longer, that would definitely make life easier! As you said, for your ‘proper’ winters, itd be a bit in the small side! As for CO, I tested it when I first made it, the stove takes everything up the flue, as long as there is a decent amount of venting, I always leave an air intake to encourage draw. I probably aught to use my detector every time I use it for peace of mind!! Atb, Simon.
Wow I think I saw you process wood before. You make it look so easy when I know it's hard work.
I know I am learning a lot. Thank you
Awesome video! You have the best personality. 👏
Maggie is proof positive that everything tastes better in the woods...nice mods on that Lavvu!...awesome video Simon...atb...woods
Thank you mate! It was a nice surprise to get some of the white stuff - enough to get excited about too!! We are so unused to it here, our whole infrastructure shut down - roads closed, trains cancelled- hahaha. Thankfully, it was the farmers who got things back running again - clearing snow drifts with tractors and teleporters. Fun! Atb, Simon.
I like the way you camp brother. greetings from faraway.. the enchanting land of the mystic.....INDIAna
Thanks buddy! Greetings back at ya! And Happy Christmas! Atb
a great experience for both of you!
That is so beautiful, it looks like everything is covered in icing sugar! 😍😍😍
Also, it looks like the British army is ridiculously well-fed. I may have made high-pitched noises of delight when I saw that teeny-tiny Tabasco bottle.
Well at least there's good entertainment in a survival package and keep you from getting to bored haha 😂😂😂
Nice video. excellent editing.
Often wondered about those lavvu's, your one look exceptionally well made.
ATB, Steve
Thanks Steve! It was great to finally get it out in the snow - great for cold camps with the stove and warm camps without! Atb, Simon.
I love the way you show 👍⛺
Excellent video sir. I love winter camping the same way. No need for a million dollar prevost for me. BTW the dog Maggie is fantastic. Dogs always make camping so cool.
