    My rate is 3 .00 per mile per unit on trailer and I use a square Don zon for collection I accept all major credit card and only hail cod loads and loads do not come off my trailer until payment hits my account other wise your freight goes into locail storage unit until paid including storage fees at 25 percent overage of storage bill

    If anyone wants to know how to stack partials like a champ i’m your guy ;) but yeah cheap freight hurts everyone! Your gas coverage to get home could be someone else’s load out that he could have negotiated up to be profitable

    Love this Video! We have been doing this at your level since 2017 and a lot of what you have talked about in many of your videos has been growing pains for us along the way. Definitely have a savings, you just never know. Also absolutely DON'T HAUL CHEAP FREIGHT, it hurts the other carriers and you.

    This is a great video.
    The key take away in this whole video is, what does my setup cost on a cpm basis.
    Ironic that it is the non-cdl guy who mentions it.
    I am just getting started myself, non-cdl, and after watching a ton of hotshot vids, I am SHOCKED at how many guys, literally 90+%, don’t understand this concept. All you have to do is watch their video when they go over how much money I made this week/month and it is very apparent.
    So many o/o have zero clue and literally are taking money out of their business and giving it to brokers.
    Why so many drivers just love to do this boggles my mind.
    Just because you aren’t spending cash today, doesn’t mean you haven’t spent it. The expense happened, you just haven’t paid for it yet, but you will. The question is will you have the cash when that time comes? The smart business owner will.
    Every single mile you drive costs you something, no matter when the actual cash outlay happens.
    Once you understand the concept of accrued expenses, your chances of success in your business just went up 100 fold.

    That information is bold print onmy contracts no fine print and if I have to return to said storage unit you are billed the additional mileage rate no if ands or butt s you want your fraight I need paid upon delivery that simple and it. Seems to work and I stay between I 35 and the Utaha border and from Colorado to Baytown Texas

    • @chrisluellen
      @chrisluellen Před 3 lety +2

      A partial is a second or third load to fill your trailer. Let's say you pick up a 4x4 skid as he was saying in the video that weighs 5,000 lb. That's not going to take up very much space on your trailer. So some carriers will find a second or third load to fill the remaining space of the trailer that is going in the same or approximately the same direction or location. A lot of times the partial loads will pay far less than the main load per mile but if it's on your route some carriers will take it because it adds to their overall rate per mile for that trip. I hope that was clear enough to understand my ranting at midnight lol

    Great video for sure... Ok I've been hauling RV trailers as well part time and I am ready to get my own trailer and do the noncdl hotshot
    I have my LLC now but need to get my own DOT and mc number
    My question is how do you find your brokers and get started ???
    I don't like driving from Missouri to Indiana to get RVs.. to much dead heading and I will keepy normal job which currently I work 2 days a week and am off 5 days a week and will drive on those days
    What do you suggest??? I am a veteran btw

    With diesel over $4.00 a gallon (March 2022) and many say likely to hit $6 to $7 by summer, anyone who hauls cheap freight will go broke twice as soon. Now's the time to put the cheap freight brokers out of business instead of yourselves.

    Interesting video! I wonder: how do you calculate "deadhead miles" when considering a load? How do you manage running empty on the return trip... do you figure that into your cost as well?

    If everyone drove deadhead rather than $1.50/mi, then there would be no expectation among "customers" that "if I'm just patient, I can find a trucker to ship this at cost." When you take those $1.50/mi jobs, you are the cause of the problem.

    Do you calculate your dead head miles into your 2.00 rpm?

    • @xlc-ho5zr
      @xlc-ho5zr Před 3 lety +1

      Sounds like Craig is just specifically talking about loaded miles in this video. I personally tend to focus more on total miles but I'm not in the hotshot game. Either way the goal is to keep your deadhead miles as low as possible IMO

    • @shipleytransport3211
      @shipleytransport3211  Před 3 lety +2

      So this video specifically was more so talking loaded miles but yes deadhead miles should be included in your thought process. Any mile you use your equipment to cover should be calculated in the bottom line so that you’re covered for your time, maintenance intervals, and duration spent away from home and your family. Every mile in my opinion is worth something to you so it should be accounted for when you are pricing out a load. (Obviously all of this is strictly my opinion though too).
