I agree with about the casting of Lindy. Why is Hollywood afraid of casting average/not as attractive women in lead roles? The whole "looks don't matter" thing would be more convincing if it wasn't exclusive to "guys' looks don't matter."
Plus beauty is different for other people. Somebody's Victoria's secret girlfriend is somebody's only-just-a-friend

Sure but it’s quite a minority.
But his looks do matter. Specifically, his deformity in the film is designed in such a way that it doesn't affect his physique or any key facial features. He pretty much looks the sam as before, but with a shaved head and some fake tattoos. That's not a beastly mutation, that's a lame Snapchat filter.
@@kztar621 So, to be clear, I don't think J-Lo or Vanessa Hudgens are attractive, but that's a really subjective topic. Beauty, and what people consider exotic as well, are both very perspective based topics. I, personally, would consider an Irish Girl, from Ireland, more exotic than a Latina from Mexico. Or an Italian more exotic than a Puerto Rican. So it's a relative concept, you know?

Jenny Nicholson said that she might have been trying to sound darker and edgier (than her HSM role) by deepening her voice, but she deepened it straight out of her natural vocal range, making her croaky.
This movie could use a remake. Fairy Tales retold in modern settings has a lot of potential to me.

I've been watching Murdoch's Mysteries and so I tried to connect Neil Patrick Harris with a turn of the century Canadian detective for a second there.
Tattoos and body modification is optional, that is not the same as judging some one for things they could not change.
9:25 I think this change was by far the worst. The point of having him be transformed into a literal beast was so that he would look worse than people with scars or deformities so that he would no longer be in a position to look down on them. By taking that away and making him only semi-deformed, (if you can even call it that,) you completely throw another great motif of the book out the window.
On top of that, I see far more dramatic and even comedic possibilities with the idea of modern people reacting to a fairytale beast and a modern spoiled rich kid reacting to being turned into one.
You seriously think him being a beast would have not gotten him more attention than the book wanted him to have.

Except looking like a traditional beast wouldn't really be a big deal now since you could easily dismiss that as cosplay. That's the problem with modern tellings of this story; in this decade someones always going to find the beast attractive.
Sorry for the confusion rail. Kyle looking like an actual beast would have a different connotation for people today.

This movie sucked. I think it have been better if the guy was forced to go to school and have people mock him for his looks. Where he learns his lesson and not have be a shut in and some of the most boring scenes in the movie just having him moping around. Then he goes and stocks his love interest. I would have liked it if Lindy knew it was Kyle there for knowing what kind of person he is and why at first she doesn't like him. It was a boring movie
I agree. How I would've handled the story is by making him just be a smug asshole, who gets into a horrible car crash, which horribly disfigured him. Like a more realistic Two Face levels. He goes to school and is mocked for looking ugly. Lindy, who is a bit haughty herself, is forced to do a project with him. Soon, she realizes what happened to him and takes pity on him, but still treats him like a normal person. They fall in love from there. Then again, I'm not sure how to handle this without making it seem like one of those stupid movies that treat disability in a demeaning manner.

On the note of "There's so much stalking"- It's much better done in the book, because originally, He doesn't even stalk the main girl. At first, he uses to spy on his old friends, hoping to see them broken up about him not being around, only to see them move on, be happier without him, and admit their true feelings about him, how they hated who they were around him and how, by feeding into his ego and playing along with his assholery, they were lowering themselves to his level and they *REGRET* it. This revelation sent him reeling, and it was a blow to his ego that he needed, yes, but it was also a harsh dose of reality- He'd thought he'd known everything and was king of the kingdom, but in reality he hadn't even known his "friends".
That's when he takes a different route, and he starts using the mirror and a year book to check into all the student of his school, learning things about them that he NEVER would have normally when he was at school- thing he would've never even cared to learn, if he was being honest.
And that's when he see's the main girl. It's not a crush or love that makes him stop on her- but Interest. This girl, who beforehand was beneath his interest, he finds out lives out a deep, complex, and more conflicted life than he could've imagined. And its through watching her, learning from her, that starts him on the path of recovering from the curse, *long* before he falls in love.
That was always the greatest Irony of the book for me- That the girl who's life was too insignificant to pay attention to would ultimately be the girl who taught him how to live his own properly.
It's my belief that the story of "Beauty and the Beast" can be traced as far back as Ancient Greece; perhaps having been derived from the tale of Hades and Persephone.

But, because it's a really really really hard to read story - things are often repeated verbatim several times; 'and so the people, who gilgamesh had wronged, went to the gods and said, 'o gods, gilgamesh has wronged us' and the gods looked upon the people, who gilgamesh had wrong and come and said 'o gods, gilgamesh has wronged us' and said, 'people, who gilgamesh has wronged...' -- I didn't finish it, but it's possible Enkidu met a girl and all. Bit of a stretch, though, he wasn't cursed, he just looked like a Beast-man, that's how the gods made him.
@@TheAdarkerglow honestly I just remember hearing somewhere that the "beast man falls in love with human woman" trope has existed since the epic of Gilgamesh, and that's basically the trope that's used in "beauty and the beast" anyway, curses or no curses.
and in a way this story happened in real life with petrus gonsalvus and his wife catherine, he had Hypertrichosis(werewolf syndrome), a queen forced the two to get married because she wanted to see what their children would be like, and when a child was born with the same father syndrome, the child was donated as a pet to some noble family, years later the writer of Beauty and the Beast, inspired by this couple and probably inspired by the myth of eros and psyche, wrote the story Beauty and the Beast for encourage young women to accept their husbands and arranged marriages..(they say that Catherine didn't see who she was going to marry until the time of her wedding, that's when she saw she fainted from fright)

In fact the only mention of her being a witch is her mother accusing her of being a witch and her mom using it as justification to try to murder her and we are not supposed to side with Carrie’s mom since she is a crazed and abusive religious fanatic.

LaydiNite what Carrie has is telekinesis, she is not a pyromancer. The fire at the prom started because she was lashing out with her powers, in fact the movies don’t really show the full extent of Carrie’s powers because in the book she not only burned the prom, she torn apart almost all of the town. As a child in the book she was able to cause large chunks of ice to fall from the sky and hit her home when her mom tried to lock her up in a prayer closet. There is a Stephen King book called Firestarter where a young girl has the ability to start fires with her mind and there is a movie where a young Drew Barrymore played the child.
Strawberry Queen Carrie’s mom wouldn’t let her shop at Hot Topic because her mom would probably believe that it promoted worshipping the devil.
My biggest problem with this movie was that I thought Kyle looked better while cursed than he normally did.

I finished the book yesterday. I thought the book was gonna be bad too but shockingly, it's actually better, if not a little creepy. This is by far, the easiest book I've ever read in my life. The writer made the words smooth and easy to read. I can see why YA novels are popular. Anyway, this was a good book. The movie on the other hand doesn't do the book justice. The movie was so terrible.
It's a real shame that I find standard adult novels as lacking any flare or soul.
With that detail of Kendra now working for Kyle's dad I want a sequel of that. Put him through the curse!

For Halloween, she was Sonny and he was Cher. He was a foot taller than her (so it kind of worked). It was hilarious and seeing Lindy like that made me smile remembering that

I personally don't like the "friendzone". It's just.. Men who get close to women out of interest. The curse never says if the love has to be romantic. I get he is dissapointed about his feelings not being returned, but women will want genuine friends too, who don't want to get in their pants.
Some guys are very rude about this. I once had a guy friend who got close to me, said he'd always be there for me, who i confided my worries to, and when I told him I had a girlfriend he said "So I wasted my time all along ? You're just friendzoning me?" I thought I had a genuine friend in him and he dropped me because he just wanted to date me.
So yeah, heartbroken ? perfectly fine. being "friendzoned" because you got close to a woman out of interest ? No. The friendzone doesn't exist.
The movie may have made the female lead just say it because she is unsure about her feelings about him. Sometimes, people dont want to say I like you yet and it all leads to a misunderstanding. Also you're right. Guys just gotta be like "you're not single? Oh well. Better luck next time." Sometimes, people just gotta talk it out before defining the relationship whether they're just friends or something more

(ehem) let me just say, I don't normally agree with a "friendzone" mentality except under three conditions, and ALL THREE (except maybe the second one, but they must be single for that one to be null) must be true for you to complain. 1: you MUST tell your crush about your feelings. 2: if they have a S.O., they must constantly complain about them. 3: they must compare ALL potential or current suitors TO YOU in a favorable manor.
or this is also a viable reason to complain about the friendzone. They were your s.o., they broke up with you and said you could still be friends, and you never heard from them again.

I would love for someone to remake this movie but make it closer to the book. I just watched the movie again recently when it was free on CZcams, and it was rouuuuuuugh. I remembered loving the book in highschool. I just finished rereading the book and it was way more charming. The beginning was super cringe because the protagonist is super cringe, but everything just flowed better in the book.
I was trying to forget this movie ever existed! I wrote a story that was very familiar to this, about teenage fairy tale characters in high school (having dark magic weaved through with the addition of mundane humans never acknowledging their existence save for a few people) but while I wrote this at the age of 14, I am glad I didn't publish it. Why is it always pretty people???? Like he doesn't even look that bad. He looks kind of cool.

If the thing that lifts the curse is someone loving him for more than his looks, why isn't it lifted by the housekeeper who seemed like a mother figure?
I really don't think a scrying mirror is better than him physically stalking her. The mirror is as creeping as filling someone's house with cameras (and possibly microphones).
I hate those public love confessions. I just want the earth to swallow me whole, or even better, swallow those characters.
And everyone stands around looking at them, as if they have nothing better to do, well, considering people spent their hard earned cash paying to watch it, perhaps that is more realistic than I thought.
And then the clapping. Why would people clap, when people they barely know, if they know them at all, make a public spectacle of themselves and sprout out enough sugar to make half the continent diabetic. Those people are blocking hallways or airports or other places people want to pass through. I can think of a dozen more likely scenarios than clapping. Half of them end in a broken nose and would make for a far less cringe-worthy ending.
Why do this ending, when even the book did not subject innocent bystanders to the sappiness of the happy couple professing their undying, totally not skin-deep love.
I liked the scene in the book, in which Kendra went home. I preferred the dynamic before Lindy came over, to be honest. Lindy was fine as a character, but the romance was not my favourite part. It rarely is.

I don't think Carrie was a witch, in the book it stated she had strong psychic abilities even when she was newborn, keeping her mother from trying to kill her with a pair of scissors.

I guess I have an unpopular opinion. I know this is a rather old video but I like the way they did his makeup. The way I see it is that this is HIS version of the worst thing, HIS version of ugly and a beast. He hides away because that's what his father wants, he is scared because like I said this is HIS idea of the worst. She is teaching him that he was more and is more than looks unlike the way his father raised him... but that's just my opinion and the way I see it.

Your reaction to watching high school musicals is almost the exact reaction i have when i think of musical movies.
I didnt watch this movie because it sounds stupid and it looks like it is,plus whoever was the makeup artist in this movie he did a very poor job,he doesn't even look that ugly.

Beastly's my favorite of the B.& B. retellings. But reason the "Beauty" has to be played by a hot chick's because too many producers are chickens at heart. ;D
Now I read the book in Secondary school and, yeah, it's by no means a masterpiece.
But this adaptation did leave out one part of the book I enjoyed.....

@@godzillavkk In between parts of the book it shows Kyle attending online group therapy with other people who get cursed (the Frog prince, the bear from Snow White and Rose Red, the Little Mermaid) and basically they talk about their situations and what they're doing about it. It's honestly pretty entertaining.

I'm really concerned *that* is what the filmmakers thought was ugly. That *that* is what constituted a minor being locked away from society for. I feel like they would consider everyone below a 9 to be bad-looking. The Ryan Reynolds Deadpool looked uglier than that, and that's Ryan fucking Reynolds. Hell, the silly Phantom of the Opera with the Zuko scar was still uglier than that.

I admire your resolve; you made it through both the book and movie to make this review. I can't do either...which is probably why I asked you to do it XD. Seriously, there wasn't one believable moment in any of the scenes you showed me. You have tolerance of steel. Review could've used more NPH though:(
Every review could use more NPH. :P But yeah, I actually didn't have a problem with him (though he acted like he just showed up to film for a day or two because it was on the way to something else), and I wanted to focus on other problems/plot elements.

i feel the tattoos are way too much, the scars and warts things like that would have been far more effective and relatable.
I feel like it needed to be more scary tattoos. Lines aren't scary. Have half the face tattooed like a skull or that guy who wants to be Red Skull. Something like that.

as soon as I saw you review this movie, It honestly made me think of Stormbreaker because of Alex Pettyfyr and I really hope that you review that, the book was so well written and had some charm, action and good laughs. Only to be ruined by the horrible movie.
The book is on my shelf, ready to be read! Just need to get the movie next.
