OMG - if you have not purchased and Induction Cooktop it is the bomb. My wife and I purchased an 1800W DuxTop Induction Hob as a backup in case we ran short on propane. During our stay in the Bahamas we loved using it so much we made a 10# bottle of propane last 3 months. I highly recommend it and be sure to get a silicone mat for the top. It protects the glass and keeps the pot in place. The burner never gets real hot, keeps heat out of the galley, and super easy to clean up.

I have an instant pot on my boat as well as a bread maker. Since we went all electric we redid the stove into a gimballed induction cooktop and a microwave convection oven. Our galley is really small on the Catalina 30 and we had to convert our starboard setee into a floor to cieling storage for food that can get us through two or three months in the Bahamas. My favorite appliance I added is a griller that I saw "Gone With the Wynn's" show on their channel. It can make hot sandwiches and grill all kinds of things. Steaks take about ten minutes for example. Awesome work on the video!

Thanks Allyn! We LOVE the Wynn's! I have not seen the episode you are talking about, but I am sure they have amazing suggestions for the kitchen! So cool that you just have an all electric galley - that is 100% on my wish list for the future of this boat!

I am still searching for a model that I love - this one is fast, but it doesn't have a refrigerated "holding bin" so the ice melts if you leave it in there and it is kinda hard to clean. Once I find one that I really like, I will be sure to recommend! That said, I have heard others really like this model, and they are probably just better at cleaning than i am 🙌

Haha - SO TRUE! I do appreciate it, but I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. When it gets dirty on the inside (water + hot environment = gross) it is not very easy to clean. I never feel 100% confident that my ice isn't just a little gross đŸ€ąBut for the price, it has been a good investment!

What do you do for power on a small boat? In the UK we use propane. I guess you either need shore power or a generator. Either way it’s challenging when at anchor.

You provided some really useful tips, the best one is to avoid a propane stove. I'm going induction. The draw dividers are a great idea. I didn't know that Tupperware did silicone bags. I've seen many other brands of silicone bags. The six quart Instant Pot uses 1000W where the three quart uses only 700W. That 300W might be enough to get by on solar power without having to start the generator. Like the lady said, consider the electrical requirements of the equipment you select.

The one thing that I haven't seen in any of these "galley" videos is the use of freeze dried food. Understanding that it is quite expensive to purchase FD food, the ROI on a freeze drier is rather good if one were to use it for preparing an emergency stash for the homestead as well as for use on the sailboat. Load up your galley's pantry with a variety of freeze dried food and all that one has to do is boil water. It takes only a few minutes to boil water which drastically reduces energy use on the boat, the galley does not heat up nearly as much plus the storage of this food can be done in the fraction of the space. Want a Thanksgiving turkey dinner onboard? Not a problem. Everything can be prepared and freeze dried ahead of time including the turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, any and all veggies and even ice cream for dessert.
I am not suggesting that a freeze drier for the boat but rather for the home. The size, weight and power requirements of the drier make it impractical for use on a boat. Rather use this at home and prepare meals ahead of time for use on the boat. Freeze dried sliced bananas and strawberries make wonderful snacks. London broil is excellent when freeze dried. The process actually tenderizes this cut. Chili (w/o beans), soups and stews also do very well. Freeze dry uncooked scrambled eggs and then grate them into a fine powder. Three or four dozen will fit into a quart jar. Mix the powder with onions, peppers, cheese etc., cook and voila..... a wonderful omelet.
I truly think that this process has a place in boating and cruising.

Well done, Jess! Good stuff there. We just moved aboard our Lagoon 43 Powercat 2 weeks ago and I'm still working out the kinks in my galley. InstaPot (yeah, I'm sorry, that's just its name, haha) came aboard for sure! I switched from a coffee maker to a pour-over kettle I heat on the hob. Makes great coffee and, while I have to wait a bit, I kind of get into the zen-like process. I, too, love my silicone bags (though some foods can stain them a tad I've found). Have you tried beeswax wraps? I use one over my coffee cannister and so far it hasn't gotten gooey or gross even in the southern FL heat. I think they're a nice (eco-friendly) alternative to plastic wraps - totally reusable. Keep the great vids coming!

..... excellent ..... have wondered about an instant pot, have a pressure cooker that I use on the stove but it does not get much use, I attribute that to my limited knowledge. I liked the silicon Tupperware bags, regular freezer bags have square corners and have this thing in my mind, that can't get the corners clean. These you show have round corners that would be easy to clean .. thx for the tip am going to hunt for them .... thx for sharing a peek into your lifestyle Jes and Charles, have not figured out yet who does the editing or if it's a team effort .... anyhow .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans .....

Most of the editing is done by me (Jes), but Charles takes care of color correction and makes suggestions on how we can improve my final cut. Typically, I think he is wrong, try it anyway, and it normally turns out that he was right😅

Totally get the more responsive gas preference. Was just thinking of the room temperature as you also mentioned.
Thx so much for the link, unfortunately I live outside of the US and that equates to duty and shipping costs as it seems affiliate links just work in country of the affiliate.
You certainly have found a suitable production method that works for the two of you. Color correction, I would not be good at that .. Eg .. sister asks which one I like better for her kitchen redo, she has swatches laid out on a neutral surface, because this makes a difference, and states that this on she was thinking for this because the cabinets will be this and to set an accent she is intending on using this on that wall. I look at the swatches, at her, me wanting to be helpful and discuss with her the merits of each, but I have to be truthful, they all look the same (they are all white). Then I have to bear the not intentional look of disappointment from her cause we will not have the bantering discussion of colors that she was looking for .. no I am not color blind and just see shades of gray, just not the color shades that some or maybe most see ... smilin ..
Thank for your response Jes .. you two have yourselves a rewarding week...

@@daveholley2156 As did I. You see, my suggestion aimed at helping them get in the right direction regarding quality of the enveloppe. It was NOT meant to be negative.
      - I happen to beleive these two have what it takes to become a very succesfull Vlog to the point where they will no longer need to work on the side.
Making them aware of professional equipment and websites where you learn about mistakes not to make, proper camera handling, no more selfies, etc.

Hey Marc! We are actually using a Rode Microphone in this video. We still have a lot to learn about audio editing, but thankfully we have come a long way from where we started 😅. We will keep working on it 👍

Hey Dave! So glad you can hear us! Our sound quality really bothers Charles, and I (Jes) typically think its fine. I can't really pick up on when something is wrong with audio unless I just cant hear it. It really depends on the person, their ears, and how much they make connections through sound. Thanks for tuning in, we love having you along for the adventure.

It’s not for everyone, but a lot of folks have really appreciated this episode.
I create content that would have enjoyed when I was shopping for a boat, and this was a big one for me.

@@FolsomOceanViews certainly you can create any content you want. I never said this was content that no one would be interested in. You want to play Martha Stewart, go for.
