  • In this video I remove the floor pan and frame rail from the passenger side of the Datsun 280z project. Then I clean up the rest of the frame rail still attached to the car as well as some other misc cutting towards the rear of the floor pan.
Thanks for watching, I hope you learn something from this video and picked up some tips on how I removed the rusty old Datsun metal.

Thanks for the uploads man! I've got a 75 280z that needs pans and rails and it'll be the first time I've done any body work. This was really insightful!

Very nice ! I thought I had a small place to work in: about 2/3s of an small American 2-car garage.
I have the right side for my project car (Volvo 1800ES), and the back for my tools, which rolling weld / fab table, TIG/MIG welders on a custom made , very narrow cart that tucks in a tight space , lathe, milling machine , surface grinder and other things . I have about 1 foot of walking distance .
Still need to keep the left side clear for my wife to park her car

Same as everyone, I got a 75z with holes in pans etc poor body and will get to learn welding and body work on it. Like the videos for motivation. hope I don't make things worse welding on it.

If you have to do this again use a drill bit or better yet a proper spot weld cutter drill bit, make easy work of it and it's ready to re spot weld.

Thank you for posting this. I just got 280z that looks like i that the same issues on the passenger side. How much a job like this would cost if I have someone to do it?

Thanks for the videos. Great source of inspiration. I have a 280Z with some rust that I will try to repair myself. What type of sheet metal and gauge are you using for your floor and frame rails?

Sorry not sure exactly what gauge. The frame rails are from Baddog online. They are pretty thick. A lot thicker than factory.

I'm using 16 gauge steel for my floor pans.

Where did you get your experience doing body work? I have a 280z with some major rust in the floor pans and battery tray areas. I don't really have any experience with body work or welding but i don't want to pay 6k for a shop to do it. I don't plan on making it as clean as you did but do you have any tips or an idea of how bad itll be for me to do? Any advice is appreciated, thanks
