  • The restoration of the Datsun 240z which is a rare car in Indonesia, how about in your country? is this car rare?
    A Datsun 240z in good condition can be sold at auction for up to $310,000, which is easy for you to choose a new car at that price. But this car is loved by car collectors for its history and iconic design.
    It took us approximately 4 months to complete the restoration and the total repaint. Cars come with rust like 1970s cars. We replaced the floor, some of the doors and fenders and some parts of the engine bay with new plates.

    I got one of these 2 Seater Righthand Drive for sale. I owned ist for 40 years now but getting too old for it now. It's 260Z with round bumpers. No Rust, no cracks in dash, many spares, never been driven in rain and always garaged. Will ship worldwide. For details let me know.

    It's great to see people commenting regarding the safety aspects involved in this video. Sadly in "3rd world" countries labour is cheap - because the safety of the worker is not a consideration by the law makers or companies. Often (though note likely in this case) it's because First Worlders want cheap goods, and don't take the time to think about the workers making those goods...
    Great restoration, btw. Have been a Zed guy since 1999 when I got my first, a 280zx. Hoping to find a good car to do an electric conversion on soon! :)

      @@kiatmotor_ I'm from Australia. I think the world is sadly very much a place of "haves and have-nots" - doesn't matter where you live. Some people will be rich, and some poor. Both within the 1 country, and then within the whole world.
      My first 280zx was so rusty, I ended up taking everything off the frame and building a new one with a non rusty frame. Then, sadly, more rust... and a baby came along, and I couldn't afford to keep a sports car. :(
      I could buy a 280zx today and drive it every day if I wanted. There's no laws against it here. I expect as we move toward electric cars though that the Australian Government will bring in laws that make Zed Cars a lot harder to own / drive...

    I'm surprised you don't dip the bodies to remove the paint and filler from the shell; more expensive, but more thorough. Also interesting you use clear coat; I don't think the original Z cars used the clear coat process, although ultimately that is faster.

    • @kiatmotor_
      @kiatmotor_  Před rokem

      in Indonesia there are no body restoration workshops that use dyeing because here we are not paid as well as in Europe or the USA which can reach $100/hour
      z series doesn't use clear coat? then use what?

    • @teekay_1
      @teekay_1 Před rokem

      @@kiatmotor_ That makes sense; dipping can be expensive, particularly if labor is far cheaper than it is in the US or Europe.
      For that vintage of cars, I believe it's correct to use alkyd enamel, although admittedly, this takes more work than multi-stage paints like clear coat.
      Nice job though. I like your work.

    I have so many concerns with this "full restoration".
    This car was in very good condition to start with, it needed minimal welding, it wasn't crashed, etc. I wish it wasnt even repainted, just paint corrected on the places where welding was done, then polished. It would be worth more in that way. If you want to full paint a car and remove all the rust, I stongly recommend sand blasting the whole chassis inside and out, because it was painful to watch all that scraping and grinding of paint. Also, I hope you took apart the whole suspension and brakes, changed the bushings, etc, not just painted it all toegether like shown in the video. I won't even start about the engine...it seemed like you didnt take it apart at all, just plated some screws and whatnot to make it look shinier. This is very much effort, but the car would be worth more if you left it as much original as you could. Thats my opinion.
    If you guys want to see proper restorations of 240Z, look up S30world, it's a small company focusing only on 240Zs. We restore cars to the last tiny screw to be as it left the factory.

    • @kiatmotor_
      @kiatmotor_  Před rokem +1

      hello dudes,
      we are a workshop that focuses on working on the body, not machines or suspensions and others.
      This car arrived not original, when we scraped the paint off we found blue paint that had been overwritten, so the owner decided to repaint this car.
      we are in Indonesia with a service fee unlike in the US which can reach $100/hour, so we or other workshops in Indonesia do not have sand blasting, most will use paint remover to scrape the paint but we choose to use a heat gun
      where do you come from?
