War movie based on a true story - Anthropoid (2016)

Based on the true story of "Operation Anthropoid", the assassination of SS General Reinhard Heydrich, the third most powerful man in Nazi Germany, after Hitler and Himmler; Heydrich was the mastermind of the "Final Solution" of the genocide of the Jews. Heydrich led the Nazis in occupied Czechoslovakia. The film follows two soldiers from the Czechoslovak army in exile, Josef Gabčik (Cillian Murphy) and Jan Kubiš (Jamie Dornan), who parachute into their occupied homeland in December 1941. With limited information and little equipment in a city under siege, they must to find a way to kill Heydrich, a task that will forever change the image of Europe. NOTE: Operation Anthropoid is the only successful targeted assassination of a Nazi leader organized by a government. Hitler was in favor of killing 10,000 politically unreliable Czechs in retaliation, but after consulting with Himmler he abandoned this idea because the Czech Republic was an important industrial zone for the German military, and such a measure could reduce the productivity of the entire region. According to one estimate, 5,000 people were killed in reprisals. The villages of Lidice and Ležaki were leveled and destroyed. The village of Lidice was destroyed on June 9, 1942. 199 men were shot, 95 children were taken prisoner (81 were later killed in concentration camps in the Helmno death camp; eight others were adopted by German families), and 195 women were immediately deported to a concentration camp.
