Very detailed and thorough. I see some people are complaining that its too slow but people who are new to this need to hear reiterated things to put emphasis on the importance. Paying attention to detail and being thorough as I said, are both staples of being 100% sterile. I don't care if it was a long video, that was solid. Thank you.
Yeh. It’s not like my dad taught me how to grow shrooms.
I watch at 1 and 1/2x speed up and no worries
This hobby will teach them patience
Willy I’ve been in my first b+ batch and read so much but your videos jump started all of my knowledge thank you!!
I have always wondered how to do this. I would usually wipe down the bag with rubbing alcohol and then inject then immediately cover the pinhole with micropore tape. It makes sense how you do it. Looks easy! Thanks for your videos man. Thank you man. I appreciate your videos.
Did this work well for you? How was your contamination rate?
Thanks for great videos. You can also use a small square of tin foil, with the shiny side on silicone. It comes right off the silicone easier than paper in my experience.
Good to know as I just lost 48 to his this method.
@@Jason-im3mf yikes man sorry to hear that. I recommend wax paper/parchment paper
Sweet appreciate it
I know this is late but a wet paper towel with soap, or a glass of soapy water on your finger and tap the silicone down lightly, won't stick with the soap
Moisture content of the bag is on point! Well done 👏.
Thanks so much! Was searching for a "how to" for a while.
Badass man! Always exciting to see a new video from you
Very clear and nice tutorial. Im from philippines and im interested in your tutorial thank you so much for making this video.
Great Vid! I can def see the appeal of spawn bags if your grow gets much larger. Id say a flo hood is def a must if youre gonna use spawn bags though cause trying to inoculate bulk bags with another bag in a SAB is a NIGHTMARE. For mellow home growin Im just gonna stick to my qt jars cause they also help me when inoc time comes and half the jar is a perfect 12oz which is a good ratio for my bulk bags. Still, awesome video, good knowledge for the long run 👍
Just something I’ve done to help with this.... can use a wet paper towel (wrapped on your finger even) instead of the square paper to make the shape.
It doesn’t stick to the wet uncured RTV an might even dry faster.
Hope that helps...#TTF🍄🖤🤙🏽
Yeah because the paper thing totally did not work for me.
Soapy water repels silicone
Thank you so much for this tip! The paper didn’t work for me and I was nervous to redo all my bags again in fear of it not working again. This is a life saver
Or just use wax paper, foil, or ziplock baggies
thanks for the great video Willy. Great info! Mush luv my friend!
Put the plah speed to x2 thank me later
Thank you brother for all the wisdom! I do enjoy your videos and how detailed you are… any more videos coming up soon? I was wondering if you’d be interested in doing a video about outdoor patches? If cubenzies are possible to grow outside on the west coast…
So much love for this guy! Glad to be part of the fam!
Love your name dude 😌🖤
Use dish liquid and water mixture on your fingertips to keep silicone from sticking to you.
perfect for newbies! thx for the great vid!
Yo Brizo , yer Lyrikz of wizdome iz muzik to my earz !!!!!!! Right on man!!!!!
Nice man. Can't wait to use this in the future and save some bread
Willy, you are too cool, brother. Thank you for the work you are doing. Particularly in this time of fear and uncertainty.
What fear, what uncertainty? Please explain my friend, as i do not see this as you say. Anywhere!!
K5h d2Y the pandemic homie
@@minusstage3 I'm a critical care nurse and have had colleagues and patients die from this awful pandemic. You must be living in Antarctica.
Pete Deer where they all elderly?
@@joshuamorales6680 No, several were in their 40's and 50's. Once they went on a ventilator most of them couldn't come off. And by then they ended up in kidney failure and soon after that, brain dead. 80% of people who get it seem to be without symptoms, but for the rest its a very unpleasant experience and for the 5% who end up in the ICU it can be very deadly.
I suggest inoculating through the bag under a SAB or flow hood and covering the hole with autoclave-able tape. Just leave the tape on the bag when you do the next batch of spawn and repeat the process until the bag is spent. The bag won’t last forever anyway…
This is complete hearsay but made sense when it was said to me. When you wipe with alcohol do so in only one direction, like raking leaves. That way if a spore/endo survives the alcohol you have a good chance of wiping it off instead of back and forth. I have been waiting a lifetime to share that lol hope its right!
For the hole poking try a soldering iron with a tip you dont care about. Dont have to deal with the open flame and it will always be hot.
Good stuff man thanks for the great information
Hey Willy, got info on the event and it sounds amazing. I'm just afraid I'll miss out do to limit, but If I can't get my partner in on this one ... I'll be holding my breathe til the next.
Hope to see you for TAW n stay VIP
1:50 thank me later
This dude talks to much lol
@@Cement2Crypto its a fuckin info video what do you mean ?!
Thank you
And another issue is the plastic bags with the vent port on them rated for certain temps that allows them not to break in a pressure canner. I would imagine not any vaccum seal or plastic bag can be used to pressure cook with. So maybe the only way is to buy the plastic bags with vent ports rated for mushroom development. A slight thing you didnt mention on but the self healing port with the same stuff you seal gaskets of engine blocks with is kind of cool to know how to do seal healing ports for the pressure canner. Nice video.
This is an excellent idea. Also, coat your paper-tape with a light dusting of active ccarbon powder. (Not enough to heavily restrict airflow)
Seems unnecessary
This is a great vid. What I want to know though is how did you seal the bag?
Love your vids man
Great video man!
Polypropylene spawn bags melt at 266 F but polyethylene bags melt at 230. Polypropylene spawn bags are used in pressure cookers reaching 250 F at 15 PSI.
those self healing ports are so satisfying
If you're cheap, don't even bother with injection ports. Just put a dab of hot glue over the hole. As long as the air isn't moving, and you have the top of the bag flopped towards the syringe so nothing above can drop onto the syringe or the hole, you'll never have any contamination.
really have learned a great deal from your vids. Thought I give ya a shout out to ya From Humboldt County Ca.
Humboldt country WOOTWOOT NIGA
This video is great! I'll be honest, I don't like videos of someone standing there talking, looking slightly off camera.
BUT, this one is perfect. Thank you, Willy!
First time watching a Willy video. Hay! Bonus! He shows us how to cut the tip and make a little nozzle at 11:00.
I think I need to take a shower now.
Love your videos, thank you
Hey Willy can you please do a video on how you prepare/draw liquid cultures!
PhillyGoldenTeacher has a vid on it and plenty more check him out trust me
He ended u’p delivering!!
Great video. Thank you.
Do you have to poke a hole in the bag? Can you just put the RTV on the outside of the bag and call it good?
Awesome trick my friend
What is the micropore tape for? Wouldn't be easier to put the RTV paste directly on the bag?
Your a legend brother✌️
This is why he uses the tape on the outside of the bag that already has grain in it. It sticks to the tape better than the bag. He should of said that.
I bought some premix spoons bags and spores from someone on etsy who had good reviews
but I kept them for about 6 weeks. I notice that now they are not vacuum sealed. Do you think this is going to be a problem? Also my syringe of spores does not look like there is anything in it. There is not cluster of spores to shake and beak up. Honestly it looks empty. What do you think?
do you do this with jars also?
Thanks. This was great
Excellent idea - but I wonder how many times can we use each bag - because after filling with grains for innoculation we will be sealing the bags (usually) and once we uses the spawns on substrates OK we get the empty bag - but each time we will have to cut and open the seal - so everytime the bag reduces its length - Am I right ?
I need peoples opinion on misting. Should i mist directly on the casing for a monotub setup? Take in mind im headed toward second flush and substrate is slightly dryer than first flush.
I tried some RTV. I find it weak as can be. Maybe that is the point? I would use 100% silicone, what do you say?
Ah man. Place i got pre made bags from didnt have the injectors. I injected through the bag and tried tape. Tape sucked. All of it contaminated. I was just winging it anyways but yea lol. Id like to see how you do your liquid cultures. I tried a few years ago and i think i was carmelizing the sugars.
Question, I picked my mushrooms today and I noticed that there was a sorta purple hair over a chunk of my substrate, my mushrooms seem ok since this only appeared over night. Also it was a little slimy...should I throw it out? One of the two tubs that appear to have the issue has a 2 small black spots too. (could be ground). The other two tubs I have are still all white.
Great tip! Thanks :)
When is your next event bro? Love the vids your a good dude
Bro I love you I love what your doing. Thanks for drock mushlove
The tape sticks to my gloves and makes the job very difficult. Any suggestions? By the way I love your enthusiasm. It is contagious.....even with the mask.
Is putting rtv silicone on filter patch (on the bag) is not acceptable? It seems easier
Can you use regular vacuum seal bags and add Micropore tape and a self healing injection port?
Is that gasket maker basically high temp silicone?
much easier is to just make a thick blop of sanity grade silikon on the bag and poke right through it to inokulate.
With grain bags I just either grain to grain or shoot from a mycelium syringe at the top and tape over it with a couple layers of micropore.
I’ve been trying to find an old video where you would take ryegrass seed along with coffee in a jar and create some sort of” truffle”. Any sources where I can find this?
Look it up on the shroomery website!
I want that fully automated monotub!!! Come on Willy I really wanna get my foot in the door!
He opened the door for your foot 😌🖤
Was it necessary to punch the hole on the empty bag? Couldnt you leave the bag intact and punch a needle through when you are inoculating?
glad to see you're are still around. anyone care to share where his tek vids are or any new vids her csnnot upload to yt? i see he i snot on vimeo. i found some on another site but idk if it is official or complete as the last ones are a year old. for example i heard him mention a megatub tek. is there a video for that tek somewhere?
I am trying to get some bags but cannot get my hands on any unicorn bags. Can you give any advice on which other bags would be good for grain and sub that would be great for pressure cookers? Thank you 🙏
What if i only have premade rubber stopper silicone injection ports?
Can’t use wax paper bro? Great vid as always. My myco mentor 👌
I want to do bags for grains, but I feel like I need a bigger flow hood. My pressure cooker is the size of my flowhood lol. Only other option is to work sideways and open PC in front of FH but on a stool or something to bring the PC opening into the flow of the hood and then seal it.
Are lysol whips bad?? Dose Clorox work better than alcohol or worse ??
Yeeesssss perfect timing
Nice one👍😎👍
I know this is kind of an old video but I had a question. I soaked grains for 24 hours then cooked them for 15 minutes maybe a little longer. A lot of the grains busted open but a majority did not. I know that’s not good but does that mean they’re not going to work?
So far that seems to be the case because every time i inoculate them it seems to do great for a week or two but then it turns mushy and smells like they’re fermenting. Am I overcooking the grains? Or am I suppose to let the grains dry out for a long time in the bags after sterilizing? I’m stumped and this is my 4th attempt at this and only a few bags out of many have actually colonized all the way to the fruiting stage. Any help anyone can give is greatly appreciated.
What's the point of the hole poked thru the bag? Won't the needle accomplish the same thing without the extra step?
Can't I just apply the RTV onto an empty mushroom bag the same way you do for the already-full one? Also how long are grain spawn bags good for? Can you really let them sit around at room temp like that?
Couple months grain bags. Moister just breeds bacteria fast. Dont let bag in 82 f or higher for more bacteria contam
If you're putting them on after can't you just use regular silicone?
Thank you so much for the tutorial
What that you learned was most helpful
These injection ports and air filter hold up in a pressure cooker after you fill and seal the bag? Or is it best to fold the bag and wrap it with another layer of something during pressure cooking like tin foil or some another durable plastic?
It’s perfectly fine just make sure to raise them up from the bottom of course
What about silicone with 400 f resistance?
Bro, where are all your videos that were on Vimeo they were so thorough. Any way for us to get those?
Home Mycology lol fancy seeing you here, love all of your intricate random placed tips that are so fkn helpful :)
@@hockey-nf8uy theyre all on his patreon, totally worth it.
Hey Willy how do you feel about the use of USB-C lights before and after any work being done in the work area?
How do you feel about female play toys
Willy don’t get a shit bout none y’all
Much love man
Willy couldn’t we use the microppose self healing tabs? Would be much easier right...
Does the plastic tape still work?
I would use either parchment paper or wax paper instead of regular paper. Parchment or wax won't stick to the RTV at all. Much easier to peel off. Also, it's better to use 70% alcohol instead of 91%. 70% remains on the applied surface longer, thus killing more bacteria and other pathogens.
I would try parchment paper . May help with the stickiness of the red stuff
I had that same thought.
Hey Willy can you do a video on hybrid species? How to create your own and how to tell if you have a legitimate hybrid
He did a vid on this! :)
Is your website down? CZcams and Insta best places to access your amazing content?
Can you add filter ports too?
Do you really need to melt a hole? I mean wouldn't the needle go through it just fine?
i'm assuming (no personal experience...yet) that melting the plastic prevents it from ripping since the melted plastic forms a nice edge around the hole
Good point.
I was actually thinking that it keeps the rtv on the bag. If you put it on the plastic no tape it will fall off.
The hole is so the silicone can anchor itself so that it won't pull out. That's why he used tape on the full grain bag. The tape holds the silicone but if you put the tape in you PC the hot moist environment will pull the tape off with the SHIP
👍 yes
Hello. I am really taking a long shot here. I recently decided to try and grow some magic. I ordered brf jars from Midwest grow kits. I ordered spores from sporeworks. I very carefully inoculated on Friday evening, around 7 pm. I just looked at cakes for the first time, since. I see absolutely nothing. I don't see moisture, or anything. Please help me ease my mind, as I'm very anxious and have bad ocd. Also, thanks in advance for your time, and sorry to abruptly ask for advice. Is Midwest grow kits reliable? Is my substrate to dry? I'm glad I don't see contamination I guess. Please help, thanks again.
did it work?
Can someone answer a question for me? Sometimes when the Mycelium grows on the base of the stem of the mushroom itself is it okay to leave it after you pick the mushroom or should you cut it off? Does it matter as far as the safety, taste, or potency of the shroom?
It usually means they're not getting enough Fae, but it's no problem at all just leave it there
Hey willy! You heard of blue juice? Do a movie and potency test! ♥️🍄
Blue juice is shit just make a tea 🍵
I got two Wavy Cap spore syringes for Xmas. 🍄💚°
Awesome how did they do? Have you tried to inoculate anything yet? I have some berma spores I just got from spore works as well as alacabenzi from spore store!
Do any stores sell those plastic bags?
Do you have a link to a vid on how to make sterile grain spawn bag ?
Try using cooper tables and tools
Why do you need to poke a hole and add it from two sides if you do it in a bag before sterilization?
Yeah, doesn't make sense. You could just do the same method as the already sterilized bag and put on the outside with the micropore tape. Also if the port falls off, you still have a sealed bag, but if you put a big hole in it and it falls off, you just ruined the batch.
Yo bro, like your video man.
But how do I sterilize the grain in side the bag?
Pressure cooker
Thanks Willy! i have an off topic question to this video...i was wondering if i could use wild moose manure? would that be an option to add to substrate?
Doubt he can answer this i dont think many if any have everbtried that, butni would suspect so. The question is at what percent is best... 5% as a supplement? 50% as a main ingredient? Run trials.
@@jasonsimmons4319 thanks for the feed back. im brand new to growing and would eventually like to use as many local components as possible to grow with.
