First, 3ml of spore or liquid culture solution is injected a quarter of an inch through the self-healing injection port on the spawn bag. The bag is then put into a dark, warm location around 75-80 degrees for about 10 days or until the bag is 50% colonized. Once it is halfway colonized, mix the bag thoroughly and allow it to colonize for another 5 days or until completely covered with mycelium.
Next, the spawn is added to the sterilized substrate, mixed well, and allowed to colonize for an additional 10-14 days in a dark, warm location around 75-80 degrees. After 10-14 days you can tell the block is fully colonized by patting the side of the block to feel if it is solid. If it still feels loose, let it sit longer.
Once the block is fully colonized, remove it from the bag and place it onto a piece of aluminum foil inside a tub filled with a layer of 3-4 quarts of perlite hydrated with distilled water.
Daily light and fresh air exchanged are now introduced to initiate pinning:
A) Provide the tub with 8-12 hours of light per day: light can be in the form of non-direct sunlight by placing the tub by a window or it can be by using a light bulb or led light strip.
B) Provide the tub with a minimum of 3-4 fresh air exchanges a day are required by fanning out the tub to circulate new air in. Simply remove the lid from the tub and use it to fan in new air and fan out the old air. 1/4" holes can be added to the tub to allow for even greater fresh air exchange and less maintenance.
A light misting is recommended 2-3 times a day, to keep the tub wet and prevent the block from drying out. Be sure to always keep the sides of the tub misted to the point that water droplets begin to roll down into the perlite, however, only a light misting on the block itself is needed (never mist the block to the point that water droplets form and roll off the block.) Once pins form, no longer mist the block directly, only mist the sides of the tub.
After 10-14 days, the blocks will be ready to harvest. After harvesting, submerge blocks in distilled water for 12-16 hours. Do not use sink water as it may contain chemicals that will inhibit growth. Place blocks back into the fruiting chamber and repeat fruiting instructions.
Repeat these steps until the block no longer fruits or contamination naturally begins to decompose the block (about 3-4+ flushes). If you have an air purifier running it will help remove airborne contaminants and may help delay this process.
**Note: Mushrooms grown from spores will vary dramatically. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of random, unpredictable genetics at play when growing from spores. This principle is shown in the video by how the mushrooms fruit primarily on one side of the substrate block, through each flush.

I love how mushrooms thrive in the wild, literally growing everywhere. Yet if we want to grow them in an isolated circumstance we need to take sterile precautions 🤣. Gets me every time
It's to prevent them from getting contaminated with other molds. We only care about that because we plan to consume the mushrooms. In nature the mushrooms don't care if they are contaminated.

Its why when you walk through a pine forest theres almost no undergrowth. Hardwood has always been what i've known cubes to prefer. Not saying you're wrong, only sharing my experience

Using the block is less effective at getting multiple large flushes. You want to break up the substrate in order to create more surface area for mycelium to spread and for the mushrooms to have more room to grow.

I believe that if you went to grow mushrooms based off of just this video then there would probably be a very good chance the become contaminated. Big thank you to Fresh Cultivators. This video is the only guide a noob to the hobby needs. I followed it closely and was able to get multiple 250-300g+ flushes on my first try. I then had two failures due to my own negligence followed up by multiple successes once I learned better sanitizing techniques for my setup. I used your substrate bags as well and they have been great! I do wish the Substrate bags were slightly taller/larger on top, to make mixing a little easier. I think it is easier to control conditions and prevent contam with the method in this video as well. Some would argue doing a basic monotub and mixing it yourself will get you the biggest yields and blaw blaw, but I find contam is a lot easier with those methods, I also don't like the idea of making my own substrate and who cares about the yield when its supposed to be a personal hobby. I don't need a billion grams, I just need enough for me. A massive THANK YOU to Fresh Cultivators!!
Do you know anything about storage and how long they will stay good for after harvest?
@@sanjaynagar9931 After harvest I use a food dehydrator until they are cracker dry (4 hours to 20 hours depending on size of fruit). Then I place them in Mason jars with Desiccant packets (to help with humidity control). Then I place the jars in dry storage, like a food pantry, a place that is dark and doesn't have much temperature changes. So a pantry would be best (they don't need to be cold or anything, room temp is fine). The biggest causes that decrease potency during storage is humidity and temperature changes. I still have some left from the harvest above and can confirm they are still really good. Very minor decrease in potency due to opening the jars every now and again over the past year. Time will degrade them naturally and after 1 year, the potency will start to decrease more rapidly. After 2 years, the potency will be decreased a lot and may be time to donate/toss away and do another grow. Good luck! 🍄❤

fully colonized grains won’t be contaminated if your hands are covered in gloves when you mix them with your substrate. nothing should be able to contaminate them at that point

Ok... thanks for just summing up everything I've wanted to learn in one Silent video.
I was having very slow progress and no pinning with the other three methods I was trying, then I copied yours with the tub and perlite and tin foil. Got primordia in 48hrs, pins after 4 days and now I'm just waiting for these veils to drop and I'll be doing my first harvest
Update: this is the ultimate method for beginners. Well past my first ever bags, now I'm experimenting with different colonization containers, trying to copy his implementation of a fat brick-like cake. For beginners, this is by far the easiest, laziest and must successful method. Once you have a colonized cake, you will get fruit if you have a tub, add perlite & water, sheet of tin foil, cover with lid for 10 days. You don't need tons of tiny holes, you don't need to drill any holes at all, all of that stuff is overkill. If I could do this successfully, you can. Hell, any 12 year old could grow shrooms.
I was confused on how to go about getting my 2nd and 3rs flushes. Your first flush comes in, then you harvest those shrooms and what's leftover is a cake with holes & spore prints all over the soil. I decided to give the cake a "rest" for 3 days, leave it alone, lid Covered shut. Then I open the tub and mist water on the cake nonstop for 2 minutes. Cover it back up/shut fully, leave it like that until I see pins. After several pins & fruits have formed, I open the lid for FAE.
I get results, the shrooms are larger but fewer in number than the first flush.
Anyone know if this is correct? I've looked and can't find a video on this. They all skip the procedure immediately following the 1st harvest to 2nd flush

@@Csch90 as long as you had enough water in the original substrate, No, you don't need to mist except for the first time when you put it into the tub. Misting can't hurt but if you mist when you have little pins, that makes the pins think it's raining and they stop growing.
The misting and fanning is almost unnecessary, it's HELPS but after 12 tubs now, opening the lid & misting is more risk than a reward in my experience. When they say patience is the key, it really is true. If your cake is colonized and you have it in a tub now, Leave it alone until you see pins. Everytime you.open the lid, it kills the humidity, like you're baking a cake in an oven. Leave it on until the pins come, it'll grow faster than had you misted and fanned.
Once you have pins, and you'll know it without any doubt they're pins, Then you can take the lid off and fan it. The cake will then take a HUGE deep inhale of that air. Once you've got at least a dozen pins, Leave the lid on but cracked with a little 5-10% gap uncovered & exposed to fresh air, you'll have full grown shrooms in 48hrs. The air is the final trigger that makes the shrooms explode.
Wait until they drop their spores before picking, Twist the stem at the bottom, Don't pull

When you do it all on your own (meaning not using spawn bags) and have your own specific mixture of grain and certain manures, I’ve seen people get 8 flushes sometimes

@@Gchav25 Depends on a load of variables though. Strain, temperature, quality of the sample, etc. You could for example, noc up two grain bags with the same strain and even the same syringe and one could colonize more quickly than the other. Seen it happen plenty of times. Results will vary. 😊

If you use xl unicorn bags with a type A filter you don’t even need to take the block out of the bag. And there is no need for a shotgun terrarium. The filter patch allows perfect air flow and humidity to fruit right in the bag. Just mix in your spawn and set it and forget it until it’s time to harvest. There is no need to soak the block in a bowl of water after the flush either. Just fill the bag with water to the top of the block for a couple of hours and then dump the water and close the bag up again until the next harvest. It makes life way easier.

One thing I would do is before you soak it in water take off all the pins, the mushroom matter can get mold, plus you should save them as they are quite potent, from my experience I'd say the pins and tiny mushrooms are about 1.5 times more potent then the big ones, only down side is you need a decent amount because they don't weight much haha

those were the only ones properly harvested, should be done when they are chubby and cute like the second flush :) only a few hours later they look like flush 1 and 3 and start to be less potent.
That 3rd flush unleashed the inner dank an produced more yield ! 🔥🍄

Great video I appreciate the simplicity and video quality and editing. I have been using the PF tek method for a while and am getting ready to try this method. I was wondering, since your second flush appeared to have a greater yield after rehydrating. Could that mean the block could perhaps use more water when transferred to the tub? Also I understand the risk, but was wondering if the potential for a higher yield would come from adding and inoculating substrate on the bottom of the tub as well as blocks? Or perhaps this would be smart do to separately?
Hydrating the block before placing it in the tub for the first time works well, but ultimately we've found that the yield over the life of a block and its subsequent flushes averages out. Also, could you explain what you meant in by inoculating substrate at the bottom of the tub.

You shouldn't shake the bag initially upon inoc. You want the haploid mycelium to hit others asap. Shake at 30% colonized.

But he injected a lot of ccs, more than likely they'll pair up, and if shaken the inoculation points will be spread out. if you're conservative and do 1cc you're probably right, but I've found slightly faster colonization from shaking initially then leaving
