The FA cup with its knockout format was so much more exciting than the first division was and the premier league is now. Teams would really throw themselves into trying to win the game and there used to be a lot of entertaining upsets. Part of me hates how the premier league has reduced the FA cup's importance since 1992.
I think the magic of the FA Cup was partly to do with the fact that it was the only live football match that was screened on the TV annually and a week after the season had ended. So it was the show-piece of the football calendar. Now it's been demoted to just another game with its 16.45pm kick off and played before the last round of Premier League games
