One of the best finals ever. I think the FA Cup and Wembley today is nothing compared to those times. Greetz from Holland.

No goalkeeper in the world would have stopped Mackenzie's volley

thanks for posting this. I was there with my dad and i still remember it like it was yesterday! Ricky villas goal still gives me goosebumps. Youngsters nowadays dont realise the FA CUP was THE competition.

I was behind the goal that Ricky scored and I will never forget the eruption of noise when it went in. It was like nothing I had ever experienced! That Spurs team was wonderful - such skill, speed and fluidity. I know it sounds a bit extreme, but that night was one of the most complete moments of my life! I was 28 and anything was possible! A real 'Glory, Glory Night'! One of the the songs that night was "We'll take more care of you, Archibald, Archibald..." to the tune of the BA TV advert!

How unlucky for Steve McKenzie to score a stunning goal only for it to be beaten by Ricky Villa's brilliance. Villa played that match like he had a point to prove after being substituted during the first game.

At both semi-finals and both finals.
I would say there were closer to 75K SPURS fans there that night.
What a night that was, City were great but we were better.
    COME ON YOU SPURS

Jimmy Case's equaliser for Liverpool in the 1977 final. Have a look, it's a fantastic goal.

Of course you can only truly appreciate Mackenzies goal if A - you're not a Spurs fan, B - not a Man Ure fan..and C - never judge it using the ITV footage..as the cameraman was half asleep.

I'm a hammer and Steve McKenzie's goal is the best Fa cup final goal ever for me. Better than Villa,Case, Gerrard...and even Brooking. See Steve in Romford (essex) market once lol.

Villa's goal required far more skill then Mackenzie's. I do not suggest Mackenzie's goal was not an excellent goal, because it was. That goal would have been remembered more if Villa had not scored his 2nd goal.

Ha! I remember this game and you are the first person to have ever suggested such a notion.
I am assuming that you either support Man City or a certain other London club?
Either way know that you are wrong and part of a minority!

the reason ricky villas goal was the best because he just out skilled 3 defenders while mackenzies goal was just luck and other players have done it before

Steve Mackenzie's goal was far superior to Ricky Villa goal, the only reason why people bang on about the later was that it was the winning goal. The only other cup final goals that come close to Mackenzie's effort are Michael Thomas 1992 and Ray Parlour 2002 neither as good as Mackenzie's though.
