    What an atmosphere it was! My bus fare disappeared in a pub on Wilmslow Road... had to walk back to Heald Green (about 7 miles!) drunk but very very happy

    What everybody has to remember is back then cup football was nearly 90% of the football that was shown on tv, so it was so much more significant having a good cup run.

    Semi finals that year were unbelievable. Crystal Palace beat Liverpool 4-3. Man Utd beat Oldham 2-1 after 3-3 draw. 16 goals and 16 DIFFERENT scorers..

    As a 12 year old kid, this was the most stressful of games....seemed everything depended on it....boy I was one happy lad coming home with my dad that night.....who knew what was to follow but this night started it all sir Alex

    I was at this game at main road. I was 9 and always remember Denis Irwin smashing the crossbar from a free kick and having a great game for Oldham. The season after Fergie signed him.

      He is right though that it is ridiculous to not show it. It was one of three times that Oldham hit the frame of the goal during the game, only this one was in.

      @@apathyintheuk265 If Man U had of lost at any stage in the 1990 FA Cup Fergie would have been out of the door. I was at the 5th round at St James' Park and before and during the game, most of the Man Utd support were baying for his blood. They managed to pull off a slightly fortuitous 3-2 victory again'st 2nd Division Newcastle, and I believe Danny Wallace got the winner!

      @@Bazooka183 Or so the belief goes. We've been fed that line for over two decades now. To be fair, it would have been hard to imagine him not being pushed had Utd not won something that season. 4 seasons without any trophy would be enough to test the patience of most 'expectant' owners.

    why did Dave Sexton sell Andy Ritchie ? He got a memorable hat-trick as a teenager against Leeds in March '79, then got dropped for the FA Cup Semi the next week for Joe Jordan !

    How can you exclude one of the most important moments of the game ie Nick Henry's shot which hit the underside of the bar and went over the line. If only VAR existed back then.

      It was that far over the line that you did'nt need VAR......just an unbiased referee and linesman would have sufficed. Absolutely disgraceful upload by the way.....this was the turning point in the whole tie, and it has been conveniently air-brushed aside.

      I was right in line with that I was sat in the corner parallel with goal post I thought it had crossed too,but I actually think slippy Jim got the tiniest touch to deflect on to the bar, doubt there's any footage but you're right

    I remember feeling gutted that Nick Henry's goal wasnt given. This is why i am glad i dont support a team any longer, i just cant handle the emotions, they always go against the lesser teams, its such a shame.

      Glen Cansdale I remember that cup run well ! United had a lot of luck,but it does even out ! And it was the F.A’s decision for United not to compete that year and go play in Brazil to strengthen their World Cup bid for ‘06,absolutely ridiculous when you look back now !

    Oldham fans - Mattyredman hasn't deliberately left out the Henry disallowed goal. United's FA Cup VHS from this 89/90 season didn't have it on either - I imagine the highlights are from that VHS. (That's a video cassette for those born in DVD era...) Mind you, the same video DOES show a controversial disallowed Forest goal against Utd in the 3rd round.

    Leighton's performance and positioning was bloody terrible in the first game, not much better in the second. That's why Les Sealey got the nod for the final.

      It didnt cross the line,i was stood almost facing the goal line,it was the best save i have ever seen from the worst keeper i have ever seen..although saying that i would love to see a var check on it,but il be willing to put my house on the fact it didnt cross the line..its strange the semi was nearly 30yrs ago,i was ten,i only remember nick henry teeing up the volley from a headed clearance from a corner and mark robins winner..

    I think Oldham is a complete toilet. However, this made me proud as an Oldham fan. This is despite the fact that some of the Oldham players who used to come into our nightclub in Oldham and used to act like immature chimpanzees until finally they were given the bum's rush by the doormen.

    fa cup semi 1990 was 3-3. replay finished 2-1 to man utd. both at maine road.
    fa cup 1994 was 1-1 at wembley. replay finished 4-1 or 4-0 to man utd. at maine road.

    On another note - I hate Mark Robbins. Fergie must love him though because, by scoring that goal, he saved Fergie's Manchester utd career.

      No wonder Oldham were bitter, because Nick Henry and Oldham were robbed. Lucky Man Utd and Fergie.....hated by his own support between 1986 and 1990 - stumbled through every round with the sack hanging over his head in 1990. Also got a lucky draw again'st Palace in final, when ref played too much added time, and Hughes equalised with the last kick.

    Pretty much the game that started the legend. Fergie's job was on the line here. After 3 pretty indifferent seasons in charge, if they'd gone out to Oldham, he could easily have been given the sack.
