    After literally a 5 month process of finding the 'right' headphones for me, I ended up buying the vmoda m100. I absolutely love these headphones, and during my process of researching I learned I am not an audiophile, but I do listen to a lot of music and enjoy it even more with a quality set of cans. I primarily listen to DnB, electronic and hip hop music, and the sound is dynamically clear with bass that hits deep enough to feel the thump, but blends well with the overall sound. I like bass and that was the basis for me selecting the right headphones for me, and these cans def does the job. I will say that I researched on a lot of headphones by reading articles and watching review videos, since it was tough for me to actually try most of these quality headphones. The only headphone I was thinking about getting and was able to try were the B.O H6 second gen, and though they were not bad it was not what I was looking for and sounded a little bland to me. I'm sure the type of music will play a role in finding the right headphones, but I'm glad I got these and my guess is they would be versatile enough to suit most genres of music.

      Coming from someone else who is looking for a good bass headphone, your review is better than Zeos or whatever the hell this dudes called. They’re obviously marketed towards bass so can he just get to the sound & describe it with more detail & not compare it with Momentums which I’m sure a lot of other people haven’t heard before ? Fuck sake. Thank you btw

      Hey S&K, I'm not sure if you still even use CZcams, but reading your comment I thought I wrote it. I've listened to DnB and electronic all my life and recently I started looking for headphones that would allow me to have the deep, clear, surrounding bass without any compromises. I've entered the 'audiophile' realm looking for such headphones, but turns out that 'audiophiles' like sound that I previously thought was just bad gear, meaning - flat, bassless, depthless sound. I bought Senn 6xx's only to find out that those supposedly amazing headphones are just like that. Lo and behold, I'm actually supposed to like it as an 'audiophile'? No thank you, I'll pass on that name then. I have recently found out about v-moda headphones and apart from akg 371's, I've got v-moda lp2's and m-100 master's shipping to me right now. I am wondering whether you have found anything that suits a DnB enjoyer in the last 4 years since you wrote this comment?

    okay so this review is 100% spot on. . . i have had the m100's for a few weeks now and everything he is saying about them are true, the discomfort in the padding comes from it being to small in width and the weight because of its metal build. Thats why i ordered the XL memory padding in hopes that the comfort will match the sound quality.

  • @jarnobot
    @jarnobot Před 4 lety +7

    The M-100 Master has just released. V-Moda says it has (and I quote) " a New driver and tuning co-engineered with Roland, new cushions for a more spacious sound, new headband material for improved comfort." Could you check it out and maybe compare it with the original M-100 (Preferably with XL cushions) and/or the wireless series? I'm really curious how it really differs.
    Also, I wanted to say that I really enjoy your content! This is by far my favorite audiophile channel on CZcams! You always give great information and have a good, dry sense of humor. Thank you and keep it up!

    There are XL pads made for them, or w/e they are called. Its been so long since I got my M100's when they launched, but they've held up incredibly well. Use them for gaming, Music, on the go, and drumming on the studio roland kit.

    You're right about the comfort, but I wear my LP-2's for hours upon hours everyday and I've gotten used to them with their standard ear pads, it really only bugged my right ear but definitely the XL memory foam pads make a difference.

  • @rick-val22
    @rick-val22 Před 8 lety +2

    These are my travel cans, and just like minerlolz mentioned they sell XL pads which I have because my ear would touch the diaphragm. You can put the cable in one ear cup and daisy chain straight out the other ear piece, which helps if the other person is sitting away from the ear phone jack or if there are 3 of you. Lastly you can customize the shields on the headphones and put your own logo (just like your HD600s). I have different designs and colors that I can switch from. Love the bass response on these. Thanks again for recommending the HD700s, they arrive tomorrow.

    Let me explain something that I found while modding my Lp2, when I was modding it someone brought their M100 over so he let me look at the driver, when I did I noticed that the driver looked exactly the same but there was a cover on a HUGE massive hole on the center of the driver, the one on the Lp2 was fully open while the M100 is closed so that explains the difference in their signature. They have the same driver.

    The Vmoda Cross fade M100's are awesome for gaming. Just got a pair and put on the XL ear pads and it really helps offset the discomfort compared to the standard pads. I cant tell you the sound difference between standard and xl since the moment i got them i put the xl pads on right away. I can tell you i tried them on with the stanard pads before applying the xl pads and wow they do help a lot with comfort. Not as much as i would like. The xl pad could be a few mm thicker to help the depth but they sound so good that you will forget about it.

    I own the LP², and they're supposed to be better in the highs than their predecessors, and I'm not dissatisfied by them. I do power them properly, and they have all the bass. Which is why I bought them. I bought the deeper ear pads, cause the standard ones hurt my ear tips after a while, and since I wear them all day pretty much at times, the deeper pads are great. I also bought the boom microphone which is great if you connect it to something that can use it (for some reason, most standard sound cards for PCs do not do that).
    In any case, I recommend trying them, it would be interesting to see what your thoughts are on them.

But people don't love hearing themselves and my sound through my microphone due to being open back while we paly games. What would you recommend for around the 200 dollar price range? Thanks for all your reviews, you have helped me so much on finding headphones.

    I really like my pair. The other great part is that it's pretty compact. They are my go-to for traveling. The only issue I had was the clamp strength. I had to stretch them out a bit by putting some books when they weren't being worn. As you were saying at the end, anything over an hour or so requires a break for your head and ears.

    I have V-Moda LP2s and I love them. I really think it depends on the predominant style of music that you listen to. So far I have loved everything that I have thrown at the LP2s but if you like bass heavy dubstep, drum and bass, electro, and EDM you may like these. But they are not the most comfortable... One hour at most for me but then I have to take a break...

    The LP2 is a DJ headphone. I have used them extensively in the field and they are great. They are bass heavy and punchy.. not Hi-Fi headphones like the M-100s.. which are Hi Fi headphones built into a body like DJ phones... the LP2s were designed to be hella durable and loud in one ear in a club and look cool. They do those things very very very well. If you are not a DJ and looking for Hi Fi headphones that are for some reason indestructable, then yes the 100s will be better for you and twice the price.. you can also buy headphones that sound just as great that aren't indestructable for half the price as well by Sony and other brands. LP2s are fantastic DJ headphones.

  • @URGDarkRaptor
    @URGDarkRaptor Před 7 lety

    A thing for style with these and actually all of their headphones, including the newer xs and the old m80/v80s, is that the "shields" on each ear cup, you can change out and get different colors and designs. Plus the xl ear pads imo are much much more comfy like Hell Potato said. Havent really heard the m100s before except at best buy but that doesnt count because people always blast them and fuck up the displays.

    Sound-wise, how do the M 100's compare to Audio Technica's MSR7 and Sony's MDR 1A cans? Trying to narrow down my search for a pair of headphones in the mobile category and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the MSR7's.

      I'm literally in the same boat as you my friend. Zeos please answer this question!

    • @freyafreyat
      @freyafreyat Před 7 lety +5

      Not sure if you're still looking for an answer, but for future generations:
      ATH MSR-7's are very neutral sounding, but are obviously awesome. Very clean, the bass is there but not emphasized. These work for pretty much all genre's. These are for an audiophile who wants a neutral sound.
      M-100's are not neutral, they have a substantial bass imprint. These are fun sounding. The bass is clean and punchy, the mids and highs are accurate, lower mids perhaps slightly pulled back.
      So for my uses - i.e. electronic music/hip hop/rock, I like my M-100's more. I haven't touched the MSR7's since I bought the M-100's.
      I'll definitely use them again, but really it all depends on what you want from your headphones.
      TLDR;
      You can't really go wrong. 1 for a slightly bass-y experience, the other for a neutral experience.

    how large is the headband on these? I want a bassier headphone, I own the sennheiser hd598 and hd598 cs (the cs version are actually my partner's which she uses a lot otherwise I'd be using these as my daily). The cs version has a smaller/tighter headband that fits me perfectly where the hd 598s headband is too wide which makes for an awkward fit. They're not unwearable per se, but the fit is funny because I try to make the headphones only 2 clicks/notches down from the smallest and this makes them ride up a bit on the bottom of my ears but if I put them to 3 clicks/notches they feel quite big and if I shake my head at all or look downwards and move my head a bit they will fall off. From the sound part of the m-100s, it sounds perfect for what I'm looking for. Just wondering about the fit though. My ears are small so I wouldn't need XL pads I think, but I have a problem with how wide headbands are on headphones. My audio-technica m50xs were also way too wide, and I got rid of them anyways because I didn't really know anything about headphones then and ended up not liking them very much once I upgraded a bit. The hd 598s are definitely smaller than the M50x's but still a bit large. If anyone has the m-100s and could let me know what they think of the size or even better compare them to another headphone I may have tried that'd be awesome. Another plus to the m-100s is the boompro mic compatibility. I also game and atm using a mod mic 5.0 on my hd598s but Im looking for a less neutral more "fun" or warmer/bassier headphone that also fits my small head.

    Hey Z! Are you ever going to review the LP2's? Or the XL's? I see that many other's are also awaiting the reviews on these. So what's the word? I am about to buy a pair but then again, I think that since I don't own an interface yet, I'm thinking of just buying one of those bundles with either a Scarlett or Presonus interface with the included headphones for around $200 instead of a pair of LP2's. Not sure yet but, I am getting all of my equipment through American Musical Supply.
    I enjoy watching many of your reviews which is why I would like to know what you think of the V-Moda's that you haven't reviewed yet.
    So the Presonus recording bundle comes with their HD7 headphones and the Focusrite bundle includes their Scarlett headphones.

      @IcyFlame0 Před 8 lety +1

      +VII VII Yeah I think I've had them since like late 2014, the only problem I've had with the build quality is that the metal has some scratches in it and it's a major fingerprint magnet. Other than that and the muddy sound I don't have any complaints. Both wires still work perfectly as well, although I don't think the mic on the 3 button one still works, and the wires tend to hold their shape and get kinda kinked.

    I have the M100s, which took a while to break in. They sound powerful, but they have some of the most uncomfortable pads that don't fit over the whole ear. The bottom half of my lobe sticks out. I first tried to correct this with the $20 V-moda XL pads, which destroyed the punchy sound and made them boring and mushy. Recently I took some other generic XL memory foam pads that actually can fit over the existing pads, and bam instant audiophile quality. They look huge now. I shouldn't have had to do that, but I already had those pads lying around.

They are uncomfortable, the leather bs didn't last a year, and I picked up some Audio Technica M20x's for another closed back for 30$ on sale. I am completely serious when I say, the M20x's sound waayyyyyy better. They are more comfortable, better cable, less damage over time, and they isolate sound better. They are nowhere near my dt 990 pros, but that is to be expected considering they are closed back.

    My left driver stopped responding to bass below like 140hz it's awful. Given vmodas "tough" marketing the headphones really didn't last all that long. I took them apart to check the soldering and it all seems good. The driver is just glued into the housing so I can't remove it for further inspection. I only had these around 3 years and I absolutely completely babied them. Compared to a pair of HD 380s I beat to absolute fuck and back DJing with in clubs that lasted like a decade.

    • @driftergrey
      @driftergrey Před 7 lety +1

      js_greene I have both these and the DT770 Pro 80 ohm, and they are both pretty different headphones. It really depends on your needs and the type of sound you want. The DT 770's, as far as the sound, I have a great deal more respect for the sound them versus the m100's. The DT 770's are just so much more neutral, whereas the m100's are very much bass oriented. The m100's don't sound bad at all, they are just aren't flat at all. The soundstage is a BIG difference between the two. The DT 770's have an amazing soundstage. Sounds like your wearing a small room on your head, probably a lot better for gaming too. Whereas, the m100's definitely sound more narrow, pretty much like your just wearing headphones. I love the m100 for portability though and customization. Again, it depends on what you need.

    • @Halomaster4ever
      @Halomaster4ever Před 8 lety

      +Proxxifi Two things. Sound is relative to who's hearing it. But you can also use other headphones to compare against. For example, you should say something like "These aren't muddy at all compared to "x", otherwise, then you are literally stating an opinion against another opinion and it's almost useless. Unless you mention something like "I'm a basshead" which can somewhat be compare to Z being "a naturalist" for want of another term xD

      Seth Parker I own a pair for 3 months now they sound great especially for bassy electronic music (techno,acid etc) the only thing I'll say is that if you own an android you may want to buy a portable amp such as the fiio q1 as they could do with a little extra power. On my iPad they don't need any extra power imo. If you listen to bass heavy music but don't want muddy bass I'd say get these. Just my opinion I don't own any other headphones to compare them to.

      +Chester Yonany I have both he M100s and LP2s and used to have the LPs. The LPs are garbage. Dunk your head in mud, play some 64kbps mp3s through a bluetooth speaker and that's what the LPs sound like. LP2s are much improved, but still not nearly as clear as the M100s. They have more bass than the M100s, but it's not as tight or refined. But the clarity of the M100s kills the LP2s.

    Considering I have the LP, LP2, M100, and ATH-M50. I would say that the original LP, the one presented here isn't as bad as he's showing them to be, but to each their own. If you're an audiophile and LOVE your sound (as you can tell he does because he starts to get upset towards the end of the video, which is sad) then defiantly go for the m100s or even the ATH-M50. If you don't care that much the LP will be fine for you and if you can get the LP2 for a better sound quality.

  • @burnoutcollectivist4660

    Hey Z (and/or other experience audiophile) I'm looking at these and the SHP9500s to use for gaming (leaning towards the 9500s). I already have a pair of closed-back headphones for public use, and I don't need the benefits of noise isolation. Ignoring the difference in price, do you think that the 9500s are better for gaming due to it being open-back and it having a larger soundstage? I'll be using the BoomPro for gaming (RIP ModMic). I know you don't like to compare open-back and closed-back headphones but still. Anyone else other than Z is free to answer me as well.

    • @IcyFlame0
      @IcyFlame0 Před 8 lety

    I love my m100s, but the XL Pads are a must. I tried the lps and the m100s. The lps sounded like absolute shit. The lps sounded like 30.00 headphones with tincan ear pads. The m100s are my daily drivers. I will say the m100's cause ear fatigue but once you switch out the pads for the XL they not only sound a little warmer but are a lot more comfortable. The m100s are great without a amp and when amplified, sounds like a softer t50rp mayflower mod. You can get the m100 pretty cheap if you find a good buyer and I also love how easy it is to mod with faceplates. I would rate the m100s about a 6.85 out of 10. I only got the LPs because it was 25.00, had the cables and rem and rom plates.
