I installed one for my 2008 GLI and everything went in and out pretty easy. The side to side arm featured a plastic clip to depress the arm back, but took some wiggling to snap back onto the new shifter. The front to back arm was straight forward and i just grabbed as far forward as I could on the arm. I just hand tightened the shifter bolt, then another 1/8 turn but nothing more. The shifts don't feel shorter but the stick shift is crisper with a heavier feel which cleans up the factory play.
I put silicone grease on the ends that touch the side to side arm.
I didnt have to adjust the shifter levers or after install.

the vid is zoomed in on the short shifter, take a look at the center panel, the airconditionin or fan or w.e that dial is on the console.. see the difference then...

from the moment that the center axle makes the same distance-movements the movements of the hand are the same but lower.To have a big difference in hand movement the gear knob should have at least 1 meter high stock and shorten to 10 cm.....which there isnt this case in cars

a short shifter and a stock shifter are exactly the same length a short shifter make you throw when changing gears shorter by changing the pivoting point

it's a great way to blow your engine, you are prone to do mis-shifting, e.a. 2nd to 3rd gear, you might be shifting to 1st gear than to 3rd gear
