Hey, Eli! I'm 6'1" 200lbs right now in a bulk. (At my lightest in the past 10 years, I've cut down a few times to 180 lbs.) I do weightlifting mostly, but daily cardio too (usually 1 to 3 miles). I never run for that long. I walk a lot and can walk tor hours, but I've never tried distance running. I am not really built for long-distance running IMO. The most I'll do is about 3 to 6 miles in a single road run just to keep me honest as my cardio machines aren't real running. Do people my size do marathons often with success? I'm interested, but I don't want to diet down and cut a ton just to run a marathon for fun. What do you think a good time goal would be if I stayed at around 190-210lbs weight range while carrying a fair bit of muscle (especially extraneous upper body muscle that I assume doesn't help long distance runners much). I have kicked around d the idea of doing a 2.6 mile loop of my neighborhood every hour on the hour over a 10 hour stretch one day just to see how my body handles it without committing to the full thing. Whatcha think? Thanks!

Jonathan Miller idk know if this is what you’re looking for, but I’ll throw it out there anyway. I’m currently finishing up a class at my college that’s about prescribing exercise to clients and the American College of Sport Medicine actually doesn’t recommend stretching before exercising. They actually recommend a 5-10 minute warm-up at a low-moderate intensity. The warm up acts as a transitional phase that allows the body to adjust to the demands of exercise. The ACSM actually recommends stretching at the end an exercise session. Now I’m sure this warm-up could include some dynamic stretches as well. Also keep in mind that everyone has routines that work for them and there is no “one magic routine” that will be the best for everyone. The one I shared is just backed by some scientific study into the subject

One way that I keep motivated about running is to think about why I run. I'm going to be a Sophomore in High School and missed my Freshman Track Season. But the way I stop to worry about really anything running related is to not shoot for some race or goal or time or whatever. I keep running because it's what I love to do. But, as was said by @Matt Johnson , you do you and everyone is a little different but that's what I think about it. 👍

Good job bro it’s really nice. I come from a running family my dads always ran marathons since I was a small kid. Now that we are in quarantine and football season here got canceled I started running. But soon found out I got hurt during football and it hurt to much to run and my dad broke his foot and can’t run. We both really loved running but I have other things my dad ran every day 15k at least man it’s sucks to see him like this and it just hit me when you said you are fortunate to be able to run man. Much love from Mexico keep doing what you’re doing
