- If you could hit all your putts inside of five feet or throw over 350 feet, which would you pick? How about if we upped that to 10-foot putts and 400 feet of distance? What if I told you you could have both? Today we are starting a series focused on one thing...gaining distance. I've preached the importance of a short game for a long time, but it's time for us to learn together how we can throw over 400 feet!
I believe there are three unique methods you can use on your road to clearing the 400-foot barrier. In this four-part series, I'll be spending a week using each of them to see what distance can be gained. I've never claimed to be a bomber, but hopefully, after using these methods we can all add that title to our bags! This week we want to go back to the beginning. What does it look like to learn to cross that 300 foot barrier first? You'll have to watch to find out!
You can find part one here: • Learning to Throw Over...
You can find part two here: • Learning to Throw Over...

I think I watched that Rubik’s cube transition like 12 times 🤯
Me too. I figured it out, the cube he throws up is already the solved one. The cut happens before the throw up. I hope I'm right
SAME😂❤💪
Same here!
@@Peeze16 there are several magic effects that can replicate what we saw in the video. One of which is cube3 by Steven Brundage. Not sure if Robbie is into magic but if he is then that’s my guess.
Same. Super clean.
This video is total affirmation for me. I’m a healthy 58 year old who became obsessed with disc golf 6 months ago. In January I threw every disc in my bag about 80-90 feet with most of them hyzering out of course. Today my PR for distance is 225 (Innova leopard 3 149g) but consistently about 190. I’ve learned that my optimal speed is 7, 145-150 weight is my sweet spot, anything more and it’s a no go. What I have realized is that it’s so important to recognize your limitations. My goal presently is to shoot bogey golf, my best round so far was +21. In January I was shooting 40 over par. Short game is everything! Who cares if you can throw 400 when you can’t make a 20 foot putt? So now when I go to the field I focus on my approach shots and putting and I am seeing a lot of improvement in my scores. Robbie I love your channel! Thank you for your honesty and easy-to-understand instructions. I may have to check out this Birdie Fam thing. 😉
Play on! You will get over the "beginner hyzer left dump" soon enough. I very familiar with it myself... Btw my current best throwing disc are DD Explorer and MVP Inertia. I can get them to go straight, flat, and pretty far. These are fairway driver speed discs that are flat topped and weight in the 165 to 170 range.
Disc on!
@@tkmair6559 my straightest disc is my Shark 😊. I love Base plastics! So much easier to throw for beginners.
You go
My Dad is 57 and whenever I first got him out on the course throwing my discs, whether it was my understable mid-range or any of my putters, they all went the same distance, I'd say about 175. Then we got him some discs in the 145g range and immediately he noticed a difference. Got him over that 200ft mark. He said it feels a lot better and that throwing my discs kinda felt like trying to throw bricks.
I could honestly use some humility and buy a little bit lighter discs. I tend to go for the 173-175g range but could probably benefit from dropping that down into the 160s.
@@williamburk5818 awesome! I’m glad you’re getting your dad out there. After a few months I would bump him up to 150-155, if I can do it then he will have no problem 😉. It’s tough to find lighter weight plastic but they’re out there if you search hard enough.
The Westside Warship is a very under rated disc and I think it would work great for beginners trying to get more distance.
It’s the mid! When I found it I bought 4 more. The farthest mid I’ve thrown.
Crushing it, keeping stuff simple for us newbs has been huge watching you the last few months
So glad to see your channel growing. Your content is top notch!
I love watching your channel grow! And for good reason, you have great content and gather some great information, explaining it in a way that others can understand. The gap between Pro and Am is growing, but you are helping those who want to bridge that gap.
Just started playing DG this year and my most successful disc for distance has been the Westside Underworld so far.
The Underworld is a fantastic disc! Sadly, the Westside Hatchet (9 speed understable) is almost entirely unavailable. For taking the step from 7-9 speed fairway drivers, I've found that the Legacy Mongoose in Icon is a easy move forward if your used to throwing the Underworld. The Mongoose is also pretty easy to find!
@@zeta8512 I have a Hatchet as well. I love that disc too. I’ll be real careful with it now I didn’t know it was hard to get
@@zeta8512 I love my hatchet and was so afraid of losing it in the woods. DD had some on their website recently and I was able to snag 2 more, so now I can throw my OG hatchet with less stress. Check DD website they may still have some?
@@jakewilliams736 Thank you so much for the tip! I was able to grab a couple as well. I've been on the lookout for Hatchets for the last year, and your lead was the only one to pan out!
An amazing, versatile disc also is one step up into the Stag... The one problem is finding one nowadays. With the Underworld, Stag, and Hatchet you'll have a disc for most any drive you'd need.
A+++++++! Thanks again Robbie. More great instructional info and as always, well conveyed! 👍🏻
After playing seriously for about 2 years now, I've found myself continually discing down with my fairway drivers. I went from throwing Thunderbirds to Teebirds, and now I throw an FD whenever I can, unless I'm getting some crazy wind. Put a new Leopard3 back in my bag recently for those easy turnover shots. Accepting that slower and more understable discs are easier to control made a huge difference in the distances I'm able to throw.
Very similar for me. Today I did throw my best shot on 302ft hole with very significance uphill. I have used 148g Innova Destroyer for that hole (12, 5, -1, 3) but today I tried full weight undertaker (9, 5, -1, 2) and that got me parked.
I threw a champ teebird for a few years then moved to a beast.
Oh no! Our boy lost 100 feet, but this should help my journey to 300. The hip turn tip from your local pro has been gold for me.
I’ve been playing for about 2 months now and as a total beginner, your vids have helped me a ton. I’m a fellow B’ham resident myself and it’s cool seeing these same courses that I play at. Keep up the great content!
Such an awesome video! I strongly recommend the Birdie fam to those on the fence. I have improved so much in the time I’ve joined. A lot of the things Robbie has mentioned were and still sometimes are things I’m working on that I had no idea I was doing until I did a form review. I finally am able to keep my foot parallel with the teepad instead of pointing outwards. This and watching my take back has been awesome for my drive consistency and distance.
I’ve been playing for years though only seriously for the last couple but there’s still so much to learn from your videos! I can throw pretty consistently in the 350-400 foot range with my farthest being 430 but I know my form is far from perfect. I’m excited to try these tips out!
Great video improved my distance and CONSISTENCY immediately, now time to practice! Thank you and keep it up!
Another great video. Thanks, Robbie! I'm going to pay attention to my footwork. I think that is definitely something I need to work on.
As a total beginner, I had to learn that speed is only required-launch-speed, and has little to do with total distance.
I throw better with a Pteranodon (4 6 -2 1) than with the Leopard (6 5 -2 1) because often I couldn't throw the Leopard hard/fast enough in order for it to have the proper flight path (read: not fade massively). They also land one right beside the other - so I'm not even getting one single foot more distance with the higher "speed" disc. I also like the Wombat3 (5 6 -1 0) for initial launch off the tee. Going with more modest minium-speed (aka: "speed") is helping me a lot, and I can concentrate more on technique. I think throwing with greater speed will come naturally over time - I'm still working on throwing it flat more consistently, release point, footwork, coiling - having a disc that requires more speed than I can produce consistently only messes everything up and prevents me from isolating things and working on them individually.
Disc golf and cubing... My two favorite hobbies!! Love it.
By far one of the best informational videos I've seen.
Robbie, can't tell you how much you have helped my game. Mostly the mental side so I don't set my expectations too high, and enjoy the game more. God Bless you for your teaching style and awesome demeanor!! KEPP 'EM COMING!!!
Robbie's evolving so much as a youtuber and I love it.
Yeah, a better mic and sound quality, and Robbie will have that"pro-youtuber" feel. His quality of content has improved a lot recently.
@@herpderp969 always trying to improve not only the disc golf game but also hopefully here too!! Just want yall to have the quality content you deserve!
Love these videos Robbie!
This is great great advice. Especially with disc selection. It took me 200 rounds to understand discing down and weight. By then i was already throwing over 300 consistently. I could have saved a lot of time and frustration with some sound advice like this.
Thank you for your videos. As a “true” beginner, I greatly appreciate the beginner language. I was NEVER a frisbee player. I could barely throw 30-40ft consistently to another person. You videos (along with others) have helped me improve my game and my wife’s game. I went from being too bad to score, to 8-10 over par on 18, to today finishing even!
Footwork is sooo overlooked. I always knew I was off until I got my footwork down. Now it's much better and more in control. Thanks!
Great content Robbie, keep it up. 51 year old, playing on occasion for a year. Best discs for distance in my bag are the Sidewinder, Leopard 3 and Valkyrie. Newest to my favorites is the Archangel. I think because it flexes really well for me. While I average 295 with the other three, I avg 310 and have a personal best of 341 with the Archangel. Couldn't stop smiling. Thanks for the great tips!!
OMMMMMGGGGG i started disc golf a month ago and really really really want to improve and i should listen to this video first. good job
Once again a great video!!! I have exactly the foot problem for so long and it’s so hard to change!!! As well as “rounding” ! I need to change my whole form!!!
I am green2discgolf, and I have "practice played," about 6 times in past 2 weeks. I only throw a putter (star aviar) I have many dics' but am trying to learn proper techniques to throw. I have not started the "step and footwork," yet. I have been working on shoulder, arm and waist movement. I basically stand in one stop twist and throw. I am now throwing the putter 150 feet, flat and straigth. Robbie I am learning a lot from your vedios. Thanks!
Really appreciate the "step back". I don't have a lot of time for field work (life, kids, etc), but this kind of theory work is something I can do in my living room, except for the actual launch of the disc. But, that has helped. I had my best round last week after watching some of your other videos on throwing. This is great stuff. Thanks! #holding4part5now
Thank you, as usual, for your great video!
I'm, as in some other comments I said, an early beginner and I'm 57 old. In these last days I succeeded in throwing some times 4-5 discs on 13 (about equally subdivided in putters, 3, midranges 4, fairway drivers, 4, and distance drivers, 2) up to the poor 70-80 meters. Even though until the last week, I was about at 60-70 m, in this week I added a few more little steps to the classical x footwork, and I gained those on the maximum distance 10 meters on a Saint, a River, a Vulcan, and the last brought Trespass, also with a very beaten beginner's driver iperunderstabilized that with the rolling (unexpected) at the end reached about 80 meters ;-).
But I think I yet make (quite often, not every time all together) three or four of the errors you mentioned. Tomorrow I'll surely try your suggestions. But, as also I yet said, I have none to throw with...
Awesome video and great advice that pouring soda trick is spot on
Great advice. Thanks 🙏
Sooo helpful. Just starting to get serious about disc golf after joining a club this past fall. I haven't tried the new form yet, but I can only imagine how much more consistent I will get. My previous strategy for distance was taking my 12 speed trespass with the old "grip it and rip it" (apparently with an open stance). No wonder I ended up not happy with only throwing 200-250 ft!
I am super new to disc golf and can only throw about 250 ft right now. Each channel I find seems to be even better than the last one. So far this guy has broken things down to a point I can really relate to and understand and just seems to click with me. I can't throw 300 ft consistently right now but I am getting better everyday!
I’m stuck at mad 270! I’m excited to specifically focus on these things Thabks Robbie!!!❤
Robbie C, you are killin' it, dog. Great work, thanks.
100% on the walk up. My feet were landing all wrong, but before you showed it like this, i did not notice that about me. Thanks.
Another great video. Glad I subscribed.
I love Leopard3 in Star Plastic 164g to 175g. I can throw it almost 300’ and aced twice on shorter holes ( 240’ and 255’) this year. I also throw regular Leopard in Star and Pro plastics in various weights (165g to 175g).
Bro, great recommendations! “Accepting a little humility” might be the best line of all. That and asking for a little help got me a quick 50 feet extra with the first 2 tips alone. Put it all together and get the timing right, you’re out past 300, even with a putter if you hold your tongue just right. Patience helps too.
Love my Emac Truth for approach shots and Roadrunner for driving!
Great video as always! One thing I've realized about my bag and my speed limitations is that I still have a similar bag to all the pros, just scaled back. My Zones / throwing Luna are "midranges", my Caiman, Buzzz, and Lion are "fairway drivers", my Teebird is a "Thunderbird", my MOAB is a "Firebird", and my Firebird is my "Xcaliber." I can't throw how the pros throw, so I don't throw what the pros throw. That being said, I still throw for the same reasons and have the same needs, but I try and fill those needs appropriately.
By far my favorite disc has become a misprint explorer I bought a couple years back. It almost instantly became one of my furthest discs along with my by far most consistent disc.
I’ve only been playing 2 months and just moved from throwing a 150g Aviar for all shots to a 170g Divergent Leviathan (5/4/-4/0) off the tee, which will go 200 ft if everything goes right (not very often yet). This video is super helpful. I’m going to watch it again tomorrow then get out and practice.
My favorite disc is currently the star leopard fairway driver and I can throw about 230-240 consistently. I have been trying to implement your changes one at a time and just the footwork piece has given me about 50 feet more distance. Can’t wait to try out all of these different changes.
This was EXACTLY what I needed. Got my first set of discs about a month ago. Consistently topped out between 150 and 175 on my backhand drives. Found out I could throw my forehands closer to 200 with the very rare 250+, but didn’t want to rely only on forehands. Watched this and saw that I looked exactly like his example of what not to do. Tried out the changes and immediately was hitting 250-275 consistently with my backhands into a strong headwind. Still have a slight nose up that I have to fix and need to more consistently plant the right foot forward instead of toward the basket. Thanks!
I'm really interested to see how the foot placement changes things for me. Right now I can throw about 300-325 but I was throwing with my feet basically in a straight line, definitely going to go try out the front foot tip you listed.
Giving everyone the JUICE Robbie. Love to see the 50+ folks (myself included) talking about their game. My off the tee discs on 300+ holes tend to be leopard3, eagle, and TL3 (usually champion plastic) and can push them out to 325 with a smooth throw. Bigger distances I chuck the Heat, Thunderbird, and Shryke but depend on the 7 & 8 speed discs off the tee to keep my score low. Anything under 300 I use a mid unless a specific shape is needed.
I started playing disc golf this year and found that the Innova Leopard to be a Go To disc for me off the tee. And for $12 from Amazon it was a must buy after we learned that our dog loves to case and catch discs! LOL Great video and all the best to you!
Love your videos.
Good teacher, good at making making movies. This channel is just getting better and better in my opinion. PS: I throw Innovas star roadrunner air force the farthest. I did not think that would be my longest disc, but after testing it was. 350 feet.
Great video.
My three favorite "drivers" right now are all 9 speed - Roadrunner, Valkyrie, and Viking. Followed closely by the 7 speed Leopard 3. My personal best throw is 350 with a GStar Daedalus (that unfortunately was lost to the lady of the lake) but that was a one time thing and most throws with is were in the same distance range as what I am getting with the 9 speeds now, 270 - 290. I have hit 315 with the Roadrunner once though so I know I can do it. I have a couple videos I had a friend take of me throwing and you guessed it, I am not getting my legs or shoulders engaged much at all when I throw. So pretty much everything mentioned in your video is what I am trying to work on. However, since I just started playing last July and am already 47 years old I am very happy with my progress so far. Keep up the great content man.
yes, exactly, I struggle with throwing my Force and Mayhem consistently and for distance. My Scorch, 11 speed, and my 9 speeds- Heat, Raptor, SPZ3 and Jade all go the farthest by far. I'm ok with that especially given the fact that I have only been playing 2 months but I go out and practice throwing all of my discs. My form, accuracy, and distance have all improved so I am satisfied for now.
I've gained around 60ft of distance these past couple months, and everything here is spot on with my experience. (I think yesterday's field practice averaged around 340ft for context.) One other thing that helped me with nose angle control was changing my grip! It took a while to figure out that my grip was a problem, and that it was making me do inefficient things with the rest of my body to keep the nose down. After tweaking it a bit so the disc sits more nose down in my hand, my releases are becoming more reliable. Added bonus: turns out a better grip is also better at accommodating a larger range of rim sizes and shapes!
Great video and tips!
Robbie c. Bro, watched a putting tip vid by you today, went out, practiced it. Played a 24 hole course. Shot -12! New pb! Was making everything. Thanks 🤘
I have been slicing the air for 8 months now, I use a tee bird and lepord 3 then my roc and nove putter. I started just being able to throw 160 ft now up to 240 ft sometimes 260. Thank you for all your help!!
My go to for distance is a beat in avenger ss and at most can throw 270 but for the most part average 240 and it was getting frustrating because I wanted to get better but really wasn't getting better this video shows me alot of stuff that I didn't realize was a problem namely my footwork and shoulders. I can't wait to work on some of this stuff so thanks for the video
getting into the sport since covid hit I started with no form and burried into videos like this. I'm still learning and a lot of what you say here is great. just last night I was able to record a shot just over 300 ft since my winter break and it wasnt my destroyer it was my 7 speed centurian and my 9 speed roadrunner that i was able to get just as far as the 12 speed drivers in my bag. It hit me that as much as I want to me like my friend who got me into it and throw over 400 I just don't have the timing and skill required to take advantage of the big discs.
Those mid throws….were just smooth and calming glide. Nice throw
Im 2 months into playing Disc Golf so far. Barely scraping that 300 mark. My favorite disc right now is a Teebird 3, it flies consistently straight and I can launch it without much effort.
Great stuff.
Fav Disc to use: One way I found early on which disc to throw was take different speeds and throw them in a field. If all the discs are flying about the same distance, use the slowest one and save the higher speed for utility shots. That way you get the distance, but will also have better control. Retest once in a while to see if you're getting distance separation with your discs. In ball-golf terms, it's like hitting your 5-wood the same distance as your 7 Iron...obviously you'd pick the 7-Iron to use as it's more accurate and forgiving to hit. (one thing I don't see on many vids is info on ideal disc distance separation on full shots and what is ideal. For instance, ball-golf it's about 10 to 15 yards between clubs. To me, 45-60 feet (or C2 distance) might be a good range)
Reach back: I've found on run-ups I'm not so much reaching back as holding onto a spot. I'm running past my disc, which stays in the same place. Then when I hit my spot, I begin bringing the disc forward. Iirc, I think McBeth mentioned something about running around your disc, but can't remember the vid. The statement might've been buried somewhere and it just stuck with me.
The reachback part made me throw 300’ for the first time! Thanks man!
Currently I can throw my Tournament Hatchet further than any other disc in my bag (thanks for the recommendation Robbie!)
The Hatchet was the disc that carried my game in my first year. If you're have trouble finding Hatchets, I've found the Legacy Mongoose to fill the same role.
Been playing a for a few years but for the last 7 months have become fully obsessed. Love my Teebird. Use compass and Taurus for mids.
Nice video, Rob. I started playing this game about 9 months ago and was instructed to use putters and flat midrange discs to develop my stroke and accuracy. This worked very well. I then started with a 6 speed driver and worked my way up to the Destroyer. It was worth the extra time and work.
I’m in the same boat, I just started towards the end of July and was gifted some discs, couldn’t figure out why the drivers were so uncontrollable until I started only using putters and mid ranges. I can throw both pretty proficiently now.. but drivers are still killing me. Sometimes I’ll get lucky (got a 323ft drive yesterday) but that’s barely out pacing my putters at 280.
I only have high speed drivers right now, do you recommend any lower speed ones?
I think the pour a coffee is a good idea as a starting point on the nose down tips , but it really needs to be coupled with the idea of supination of the forearm and inside of elbow as you near the point of release so that the disc will have a better nose down angle than if you leave your forearm pronated or in a neutral position. In a neutral or slightly pronated position the the disc can be somewhere between flat and nose up if you have limited wrist flexibility for the coffee pour concept alone. It is difficult to be nose up with the combination of both tips.
300 thrower with max distance of 325 here. My go to fairway drivers (are all understable): Most "stable" of under-stable: MVP inertia or insanity released on slight hyzer gives me a slight flip-up and rides straight with good fade. Mint Freetail released on 25-45 degree hyzer release creates a nice S turn shot for open holes for longest distance. Westside Hatchet for turnovers and shot shaping right to left finishing shots (as a lefty). The hatchet is amazing because it glides for days and does not fade out much at all. The most important thing I have been learning recently is release angle in reference to headwind or tailwind. More hyzer release angle for a headwind and flat release for tailwind gives all the discs the same flight. Doing field work in mild wind is so much fun :)
My favorite disc is a base plastic Sensei. I love throwing putter only rounds and concentrating on my form and the Sensei has TONS of glide and will easily go as far as a fairway driver. Putter only rounds have also helped me improve drastically on throwing drivers, particularly with angle control
Sweet video man.
😊😊😊 fantastic job. You rock bro. Mr. D.😊😊😊
I have to say that I wish I knew about your channel 4 years ago. I'm 58 and I get better ideas that work for me from watching your videos than the high level pro tips. By using your advice over the last few months, I've added 65 feet to my drives. Still need work but I'm constantly better. I've watched hours of pro clinics. I think those videos made things worse for me. My top struggle now is nose-up launches. Getting better.
Thanks for the high quality, easy to understand content.
I'm now playing for a year and have a bunch of discs already, but most of the Time I find myself throwing putter and midranges because it's the most accurate and comfortable to throw for me. On a 400ft hole I am sometimes playing my P3X and make a par. So no question my favorite is my S-Line P3X! :)
great video, my favorite "driver" is in fact a side winder. I'm a forehand player primarily but im here to work on my backhand
The cube analogy was the bomb.
Discraft Undertaker is a great 9 speed disc that I use as a fairway driver. Also a good step up for beginners before going into the overstable/higher speed discs.
I know we aren’t supposed to throw distance drivers but I absolutely love the Avenger SS
For a slower speed I throw a stalker and it flys very well for me
Oh man, I recorded just this morning, a bunch of drives from the back and profile. Cant wait to see what I discover. I feel that I have an aiming issue, but late in my round today, I think I found a method to help.
Love the hip dance
Great video! Excited to get out there and practice the techniques in your video. Currently throwing between 175 - 225, but I need to learn a proper run up/x step.
Discs that I throw, but would love to get advice on other discs to add to the bag:
Innova Star Leopard (fairway)
Disc mania Evolution Origin GEO (midrange)
XBuzzz (midrange)
I have started using my beat in emac truth for a lot of drives and it’s not quite as far but I am usually in play. My straightest driver is the DD escape, 9 speed I believe. I do have a nuke ss for when it’s calm or a tailwind, but it can be squirrelly in a headwind.
I love to throw a dd mavrick, dd truth, and westside harp/ keystone for putter. I use higher speed discs for headwind and a justice for side winds. lots of success with this loadout
I’ve been playing dg for a few years now and I still don’t feel like I’ve completely figured everything out but my favorite discs to throw is a beast and valkyrie and the really over stable discs I use on special occasions
One disc I like to recommend to new players for their first driver is a Hatchet. When you gain distance it becomes a great roller disc as well.
Speaking as a 1 year player that doesn't play that often:
-One of the first discs I was given was a Champ Thunderbird. I was throwing it maybe 150 feet before it hyzered out when I started.
-Went and got a couple DX Beasts and put in lots of field work. Just throwing those 2 Beasts over and over and over and over for weeks on a football field. Average throw: 240 feet. Max 275 feet when I was lucky.
From there all I could think about was setting my next PR. So I'd just experiment with the used-bin discs from my local sporting goods reseller.
Star Daedalus, DX Valkyrie, Pro Shryke, Pro Wraith, Blizz Champ Boss, Champion Tern, etc... these were all the random plastics in mixed weights that I tried over the next several months. I might have slightly improved my form while throwing almost daily. Watched every form video I could possibly find. Watched them all several times each by now.
-Six or seven months into casual disc golf practice, I finally broke to around 305 feet with the Pro Shryke around 168grams, as well as with 139gram Blizz Wraiths. I guess I broke 300 with them around the same time. But the issue was still a lack of consistency in the Shrykes. Especially with a crosswind. And that's even WAY more true with those featherweight Wraiths.
-I say that to say: here I am a one year player, probably progressing at a below average rate for a 31 year old that throws/plays maybe a couple hours a week...
...Real casual about my field work practice...
...Never competed in a tournament or with fellow golfers...
...Still watching form videos almost religiously, yet only APPLYING those techniques the best I know how without in-person guidance from anyone...
And my honest current max at this point has come from my 170 gram Champion Teebird3s. Average distance max effort is around 295. PR set with this disc at 324ish feet.
To me, it's definitely below average in the realm of progress.
But its just a little perspective from maybe your average casual player a year in.
My best takeaway from my love of disc golf in the last year is that:
A.) I'll never be a pro.
B.) I would love to play a rec tournament one day.
C.) When I went from 20 different molds to just 3, my practice became more effective and focused.
D.) 6x DX Aviars, 4x Star Mako3, 4x Champ Teebird3.
-10 cheap copies of the same putter is probably better than 3 Lunas that most of us could barely afford to replace when it comes to putting practice.
-The Mako3 is amazing. It doesn't do EVERYTHING. And there are plenty of times where I wish i bagged my Zone. But I feel my skill progression will benefit MORE from consistently throwing the disc I already own 4 copies of rather than the utility disc that I can't currently afford to buy more copies of.
-The Teebird3 for ME is the same case as the Mako3. It doesn't do everything. And there are plenty of times where I need a turnover that I just can't create with the Teebird3. However: my Teebird3 forces me to practice my forehands. And my Teebird3 pushes my arm speed to its limit and beyond. (A year ago, I would not have been able to throw this disc straight without a hard fade. Now I CAN. And that is proof of progression.) ...And lastly... I own 4x Teebird3s as well... so... once again it's a case of using what I have the most copies of.
So with my aviars, my Mako3s, and my Teebird3s I committed to acquiring multiples of each of those discs. So now I mulligan my shots over and over and over whenever I need to. And yes there are many things missing in my bag. Many shots i cant make with just these 3 discs. But I am learning my 3 core STABLE discs that will be the centerpieces of my future bag.
I feel good about where I'm at a year into it. Could be better. Could be worse.
Food for thought.
This is a great video! My fav easier driving discs are Mavericks, valkyrie, and evader
The Maverick and Valkeyrie are my favorites too. Awesome!
As a beginner I had good luck with escapes, saints and roadrunners.
Eventually the h3v2 as form developed. Shrykes seem to go pretty well.
Best advice I ever got was just throwing a putter. You can dial in most of the problem areas such as nose up and proper release points
I've been playing discgolf for about 3-4 months now and I haven't really ben able to pass 250 feet and this video will hopefully help me out a lot favorite disc is the maverick
I primarily throw my Fury as my "distance" driver...I have gotten to the point of almost turning it over now so I'm trying to supplement that with my ESP Undertaker on shots that need to fade. Otherwise I'm discing down and throwing Patrol, Meteor, Buzz, and putters. I also bag a overstable Zone for upshots that need shape.
I was trying to throw with .y feet aligned way too off from what this vid shows and can't wait to try it. For Max disc I throw, it's a Maverick and I can usually get it straight as an arrow most times.
I watched your video because youtoob made me. Great tips. Thanks. My favorite driver is a max weight Star Daedalus. Straightest driver I've ever thrown. Goes dang far too
Man, I must really really suck. All the comments of brand new players throwing 250+. I’ve been playing almost 2 years and just this summer started throwing 240-280. 🤦🏼♂️. Throwing my bag in the trash 😂.
These videos are super helpful, fun to watch and easy to understand what you are describing. Thanks for making them.
Hey Robbie I would like to see a video on how you recon and break down a course prior to playing a tournament at it. I believe a good game plan that matches a skill level is one way to decrease strokes. And I think people do not put as much time into dissecting the course they play. I have a notebook that I write down my lines and disc choices for each hole and use them during a tournament... No guesswork when in competition saves mental energy. Do I want to park a 350 ft hole, yes, but playing the whole smart with a 275-ft drive and simple up shot keeps the danger at bay. We have to remember that this is a game that has strategy and tactics involved and not just pure physical ability.
I am 53 and took up disc golf 1 year ago. The last 6 months I have been playing once a week and doing field practice once a week. I throw a Lat 64 Havoc consistently 290 feet on a slight flex line. I occasionally throw 300 with brute force. In the last week I have focussed on reaching back further and I can tell that my disc speed out of the hand has increased. I've added about 10 feet on average in the last week this way. The havoc still feels good in my hand. I can now throw an Emac Truth about 260 with a powered down throw in a straight line. I tried a Dynamic Disc Escape this week at the lighter weight and it felt great in the hand with lots of glide. I've tried throwing high speed drivers with a forehand and get good results but backhand I have to be super warmed up and release on a slight anhyzer to make them work at all. Suggestions welcomed.
Thank you.
This made me realize my foot placement was way off.. pointed correctly but front and back are basically inline.. I can feel the difference just practicing with no disc.. also a discraft meteor helped me greatly since I lack power in my form and the discmania genius works well if I throw it correctly.
The Sapphire and my beat in 155 g Destroyer have been my go-tos. Consistently hit 350 backhand with them. The Buzzz SS is a good mid range to have in the bag as a beginner.
Thanks for the videos liked and now subscribed last record was 265ft will be working on this next two days and will update disc I used and distance using u disc to record
Love my Beast, FD3, mako 3, lucid emac truth, imperial eagle 3, nexus galactic aviar, & deputy.
