- This is part of the daily maintanence routine for the roller coaster Insane at Gröna Lund, Stockhom, Sweden.
Insane is a Intamin Zack-spin Coaster, same as Green Lantern at Six Flags Magic mountain, but bult two years earlier.
Very nice video. Thanks for posting and have a nice day too.
I can only imagine what yearly routine would be like.
The annual controls are not that bad, but the 5year control includes dismantling almost everything.
It is basically only the rail that isn't dismantled, but every bolt on the rail is tested with a torque wrench.
The best ride, it’s so much fun and the pressure when it takes you back is marvelous. Perfect for the cool ones. 😍😍
Very cool video and camera work too. Take care now.
Very cool video! What rides did you inspect while at Gröna Lund?
All of them.
2:10- there should be a "mind your head" sign!
Matthew Robertson Why, It isn'a a place guests have access to, and since you are inspecting the ride while you are up at the platform you will see everything you can hit your head on.
MaskinJunior yeah, good point, and they'll be wearing hard hats anyway.
Matthew Robertson No, actually we didn't, We just had safety harness.
Just write it over the entire surface of the roller coaster.
If I may ask, how did you get this job? Did you need any prior training or experience? Thanks.
Great video by the way!
When I was a student at The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) an engineering school. Gröna Lund had a recruitment campaign at our campus. So essentially this was my summer job for 6 years. They don't require any formal prior training, however they choose applicants based of what they know and has done. And then there is on the job training. Basically as I gained experience I was given the task of training the new guys and girls.Besides, all rides has extensive and detailed manuals. So it is easy to look up how to do things properly. And you don't start your carrier climbing the tallest rollercoasters. In the beginning you are maintaining the smaller rides proving you are sufficiently careful and don't make mistakes caused by rushing.
That's very cool, not the job for me, but very very cool.
Thanks for sharing. How much do you get paid? This job looks so exhilarating.
At the time I got 138 SEK per hour, while 10 of them was for managerial duties.
40 hour weeks, but only during the season.
But that was several years ago.
@@MaskinJunior thanks for replying. OMG that's not enough for you to be risking your life like that!!! Please find a higher paying job that is more safe 🥺😢🙏
@@sampraz1990 I was not risking my life. Gröna Lund takes safety very seriously. For instance climbing anything taller than 1.4 meters without safety harness is a fireble offence.
So when climbing you are secured by a safety harness, I think you can see when I move the hook a couple of times in the video.
But anyway, it was almost a decade ago, I'm working as a pressure vessel design engineer now.
@@MaskinJunior nice 😊😊😊😊👍 congratulations 👏👏👏🎉
This is the amusement Park when the jetline is shut down
Yes, you can find Jetline in two of my other videos.
I have done service-work on Jetline once, but it is more than 12 years ago. As you can see on when I uploaded my videos. I have not been working there for more than a decade.
What do you have to inspect every morning? And how long does it take? Sorry, I don't really know what exactly you're looking at.
***** It is a long list from the very obvious like that there is no loose bolts or things obstructing the track to more complex things like testing that the fail-safe mechanism in the block break works as design. I'd say the complete daily inspection takes about three man-hours when preformed by two experienced/drilled ride mechanics and nothing was wrong. Most of the control is carried out at the platform and involves the cars tho. Just the restraints probably takes on solid man-hour to check properly.
The video is made more for fun. There is a jump-cut where I was inspecting the top wheel, and I intentionally looked away from some of the controls to not teach unauthorized personnel how to operate things that may cause major accidents if done incorrectly.
Oh, wow! I was expecting it to take more time. So does this mean it would take 6 hours for a single man to perform the inspection? This always interests me but most people have nothing available to show. There's so much more I want to ask about but it would be too much, haha.
***** Probably, but what I meant by "Man-hours" I meant one mechanic spending one hour alone making some of the inspection then being joined by another mechanic for another hour. Totaling in three "man-hours". But If you are doing the daily maintenance by yourself you will run in all sort of problems with simultaneously reach things, and so on so I doubt you can do the inspection properly alone.
Oh, that's interesting to know. Do you guys perform the inspection before the park opens or right after the park closes?
***** It has been three years since I worked there, but back then we were eight seasonal ride mechanics, and we begun at six in the morning in high season, to complete the daily inspections and maintenance of the parks 23 rides. A really good summer job. We experimented with having a night shift, but noise restrictions made that impractical. The park closes when noise is prohibited. Gröna Lund is after all inside Stockholm. (Capital of Sweden).
The ride computer for Insane wont allow the ride to start unless some of the inspection-points are completed since midnight, so either way some of the inspections has to be done in the morning.
Great choice in music 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤭🎶
Well, it was free.
Look for the car left in the parking lot.
How are you harnessed in on the ladder?
I'm not. Free climbing up the ladder, then I connect the harness at the platforms.
@@MaskinJunior Thats surprising, that would be illegal where I live. I would recomend installing a verticle static line, that would keep people much safer!
@@smallbrandproductions6906 you have the back-cage, and the ladder isn't vertical, so you don't have any risk of falling.
Also it is more than 10 years since I worked there.
The straight tower has a vertical line, because that ladder has the risk you can fall.
That is scary but if you had to maintain the big one at Blackpool pleasure beach you would not be ok if you had a sear of heights
I was afraid of heights when I begun working there, I lied during the interview. But as I was working, I worked myself up. And surprisingly you get used to the height.
åh fyfan, skulle aldrig vågat!
Funny, you can see him get slower and tired towards the top. Hah
Yes, but mostly I got more careful because of my slight fear of heights. Not a ideal trait for that job.
@@MaskinJunior Yeah, I have same thing. Doesn't phase me at all until just a random second and it will. It's more widths than heights for me. I'd be fine up there. If that was 12" wide with no railing, nope, not happening. ;)
Has anybody ever fallen to their death as a direct result of your maintenance?
+jsj297 No. Gröna Lund takes safety very seriously. If you climb on something higher than a meter that isn't an SP-approved ladder, you are required to wear a fall-stop harness. And as you can see there is fences and things there to keep you from falling. Dropping things is a bigger issue, but maintenance is only preformed when the park is closed, and they don't let just anyone work on their rides.
Are u scared of heights when your up there?
No, I was the first year, but I guess you learn to deal with the height. Still, when you are no longer aware of the height, it is time to quit.
+MaskinJunior jobbar du där?
joonas Joonas2006 Inte längre, men jag gjorde när jag spelade in detta.
Can I ask what is this crappy music for?
It was for free. I added it to get rid of some wind noice, bumps, and other distorted noices recorded with the camera attached to my head. Sound quality is not a strong selling point for GoPro Hero2.
Sorry if I sounded so toxic, but I would have liked the sound on it’s own so we could here it would be cool. Sorry again if I sounded so toxic sorry have nice day :)
Lol I agree the music sounds so weird and cheap 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
hell no!
Why, I was afraid of heights when I was hired, I lied on the Interview.
