In fact, for every person that dies in a roller coaster accident, 600,000 die in car accidents.
@Michael LeGare No its true, you have a 50x better chance of dying by getting struck by lightning than getting killed on a roller coaster...
Probs more
@Michael LeGare Adam is correct
i realize it is quite off topic but does anybody know of a good website to stream newly released tv shows online?
Glad to know that there are people who really do check roller coasters everyday!
We do that everyday operating day at Six Flags Magic Mountain. It's called a "Block Check".
@MFMOMX Wow
Sandbags have life's too😢

Chika Nee Nee #sandbaglivesmatter
Oh my god VEGANS
Chika Nee Nee lol
steve smith thinks so
The sandbags would be used in the preseason testing, but not likely in the daily testing. Block checks are done every day no matter what, they're extremely important.
due to the design of this ride whenever they test it they MUST always use sandbags!
the ride is so weight sensitive that if you were to run it completely empty it would likely not make it up some of the hills and get stuck somewhere
there's only a few in the world that share this design trait... nearly all coasters can run fine empty
Most parks DON'T go through that much maintenance every morning. strapping sand bags into every seat? Right... they just send it around a couple times and if nothing happens, it's good.
The Big One is old..(over 25 years now) thats why they have to do so much maintenance and checks! also due to the design of the ride they can't run the trains empty as they might not have enough momentum to make it over some of the hills... they are forced to use sandbags
Not true. Every park DOES do that every day. The strapping sand bags part they don't do every day because they don't need to. On a cold day or a windy day, the ride will run slower, so the train needs more mass (which results in more momentum) to traverse the track. They will simulate riders with sand bags or water dummies on those days
@@FinesseBTW how long do rides get tested for a day?
@@JoeD17 Maintenence is at the park for 4+ hours every single day before the park opens to the public
@@FinesseBTW oh my, I thought they just sent it round the tracks for half an hour haha 😂
As a Theme Park 'Enthusiast' so to speak, who lives in a town about 30 minutes from Blackpool, and a regular visitor to the park, I can safely say that the Big One is an amazing experience the first ride you have, but after that it goes down hill... Literally. Due to the rides age, (It opened in 1994), the tracks have become increasingly rougher, and it is not a pleseant ride- especially if you have back pain. It also ALL first drop, after that the layout is pretty boring.
If I were you, do it once, and then spend the rest of the day riding all the other thrills- Valhalla, The Big Dipper and Nickelodeon Streak are my favourites, they're brilliant rides.
Yeah it is good, and you go through the comment section of this vid and its like "step up your game" "look at america" everyone says US has everything, it really does not, all what they have are shit amusement parks.
hope those engineers find the motivation to do this perfectly everyday. els...
That's why I always set my roller coasters to inspection every 5 minutes in roller coaster tycoon
you can only set it to 10 minutes...
the stuff i watch when im board
HappyFightingSprinklez same lol
*bored
@@timkeyskeys462 *5 years late
That fear you feel is the fear of not being in control, similar with riding on an airplane.
OMFG THIS PARK IS IN ROLLER COASTER TYCOON 1 :OOOO
lol clicked on this video because I live near Blackpool pleasure beach and saw the big one. I used to play a lot of rollercoaster tycoon 2 and had no idea!
Corben Meachin u
iona omg i went there Black pool Omg i went there I live only 89 miles away from blackpool i live in North wales whats close to blackpool
Tyiler Hanks I basically live in blackpool. Like not in a town near Blackpool, the closest town is Blackpool
JProductions w yo lol
why didnt they make it a straight first drop? Most curved drops are lousy. No air time,no free fall sensation or stomach in the throat feeling.
I prefer straight drops too, but the drop on the Big One is actually really good in my opinion, it feels REALLY out of control
because the ride would exit outside the park boundary and probably end up on the beach XD
I've been on this roller coaster - It's a BLAST!!!! if you love speed, this one's for you!!
they also do a test where they stop the ride at 100 ft and check the underside, I saw it happen, I've been on this ride, loved it.
That's the check they were referring to in the video
They have to test it all day when the park opens or people dies
I mean, kinda, because the reason they test it is to make sure it's working fine.
Someone please tell me how to get an engineering job like this?
Alex Yverr “be an engineer” - emma watson
Thank you so much! Maybe I'll go there one day! It looks fun :D
PeterRockClausen it is
for the engineers, that must be a pain in the butt every morning :)
All roller coasters need testing
Looks fun
Multi Remiix
another point on my must-do-before-die list :)
I didn't know that Vicki from Fifth Gear was the narrating for them.
1:00 wtf do you mean?! There is no "full speed" on roller coasters, there is just however fast gravity wants the damn thing to go.
I think it's just another way of saying going like it would if it was being used by riders, no stops or inspections just ride all the way back to the station. I could be wrong of course and could be looking too far in to what she said.
Simon De La Cruz not to mention the weight of the train depends on speed as well, and weather conditions. But it's mostly controlled by gravity and the speed can't be tweaked with that much.
I'm such a pansy...I wouldnt take a million bucks to get on that lol.
I'm not a fan of roller coasters. Simple for the fact I'm afraid something would go wrong, like the coasters comes off the track.
getting on it must be super frightening.
I WANT TO RIDE THAT ROLLER COASTER!!!
Very high and very fast! It is Blackpool, England.
but is it normal for them to put sandbags at the back of the ride while people are riding them that day? Because I saw that yesterday on the ride.
Sarah Debenham probably. Maybe a cushion or something had come off the seat, making it uncomfortable? It'd have been to keep the weight distribution equal and stop people trying to sit there Id assume.
They simply do that when the queue is becoming less regular. The train needs to have the weight of people in it, and if there aren't enough people to fill up a train (or come close to it) then they close off the back carriage/s and put the sand bags there.
my dad went on the ride in Blackpool it's called Pepsi max it's really high I see it when I go on holiday there
happy girly gamer this is the Pepsi max, everyone seems to have a different name for it :)
Jess Lindsay yeah it's just called the big one since 2011
It's called The Big One.
Well, it's had SO many different names, how can you be sure?
This is the same ride
I was to check for loose bolts, I would just be concentrating on my own life in danger up in those heights.
What is the roller coaster named and located? Please answer! :D
Anyone whose played RollerCoaster Tycoon knows the tragedy of a coaster getting caught up while another coaster swung around the corner and blew up.
couldn't agree more... and I live in Canada
I like a roller coaster as long as it doesn't go upside down!
i live like right next to this roller coaster.. its called the 'big one pepsi max' in blackpool, england. the themepark being the 'pleasure beach'
Same I can see it from my house
Maybe you too should meet up
LucWC I live in Scotland and whenever we came to Blackpool, we always got a hotel at the pleasure beach, and before we went home we always went a day for the roller coasters and stuff, I've always loved the Pepsi Max :)
Me too
Pepsi max big one get it right
Been on it cuz I live in Blackpool 😋
Same
Same
+Videostarforever I drank with a couple of English people and walking thru Blackpool drunk felt like a rollercoaster.
No way
How black is the pool you live in?
So cool!
67 meters? Weak... Goliath at my local Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles is 78 meters.
they don't check them at the fair
No, they are still required for inspection. Even if it's a kiddie coaster.
first HD video on nat geo channel !!
A theme park enthusiast/coaster enthusiast would kill them self's when they look at the comment section of this video. "US has bigger rides" Are u sure? all i got was a shit amusement park with no themeing or atmosphere.
music joe12 yes, the US does have bigger rides, Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Kingda Ka. Much other coasters
Big rides does not mean amazing coaster. If you want an amazing coaster not to high, not to low, heavily themed, backstory, good soundtrack and good atmosphere. The US rides do not tick hardly any of them boxes.
music joe12 Surely you haven't seen any of the rides in the U.S then, because a lot of the rides there are great. Plus, theming is a matter of how the ride is going to look, not how the ride is while you're on it. Plus, you indirectly claimed that Europe has bigger rides, so that's what I was arguing. One day I do want to visit Europe to go on those rides but at the moment I have no plans to do so.
Fair enough, theming can be used on ride, say if your going into a tunnel, no one want a bland boring tunnel, i'd want a light tunnel or have it themed. And btw i never mentioned Europe. But is you do plan to come over here don't bother with the uk, well mind you alot of people want to ride nemesis at alton towers and if your one of them go for it but it is over rated pice of shit.
That was fun!!
Where is it ?
Are these quality control engineers? What is their title? I'd like to tell my STEM class about it.
+Dierdre Shetler Im also in STEM
Cool I'm 11 years old and I won the stem and steam contest from the cambridge science festival and also I'm entering this year in 2016 the water and sludge poster contest 😀
I've ridden it :)
Now thats what michelle said!
Barack Obama HAHAHAH
Barack Obama you sir are a genius
did you break your neck?
CookPiggy
Well no because why would you?
Now, if only they could make the ride good.
I mean, its good, but it doesn't compare to other parks like Alton Towers or even other Arrow hypers like Magnum XL-200
me to
Sandbags are a great representation of the human body they should use real crash test dummies instead because they look like a human body
pretty cool!
My grandad has been on this + I like your vid
Went on this last Saturday.
Six Flags at Valencia California?
hate to be that guy holdin the bar and the coaster just keeps coming... do i jump or hang on and then die... or jump in the coaster and possibly miss and die... hmmm decisions...
This is more thrilling than a Ferrari. I think they also should test the human heart.
Lol do what about testing a human heart? I'm pretty sure scientists have tested the human heart many, many times.
Did know that. staying over night at six flags taught me that.
Is that downtown Julie Brown?
I wonder how much longer this coaster will last, it's looking pretty rough these days.
eggypickle it's questionable since it's from a manufacturer that is bankrupt and is really old, but I do believe they are trying to keep the ride open for as long as possible
I wouldn't be surprised if they take all the track off and replace it with a new, more modern track type by a reputable manufacturer
Dom wpc yeah that's an option
yea
awesome
1:52 *Ahem*
Right, instead of flying off the track or coming apart, if there's any malfunction the train automatically stops and the next train is prevented from slamming into the back of it. Worst thing that happens is usually a bit of whiplash.
please go to america and see those rollercoasters
Try Fury 325
Is this Vicki from Fifth Gear narrating?
surface rust is all, corroded rust is what they are talking about
What theme park is that
That looks kinda small.... Isn't the intimidator bigger?
Hayley Carroll yes but this is uks tallest and once worlds tallest so fuck of American
haha ya its vicki alrightt!
I've been on this rollercoaster
rusty bolts my ass.... look at these 1:31 them thangz hella thirsty lol
*watches the whole video* WAIT...! This isnt magnum XL?!?!
lmao
I didn’t know that
lol, true
If you didn't know that you might still be wet behind your ears
i like to know what happens when it doesn't stop ?
THEY RUN!
Rip* sandbags
Me and my family went there
Süper star dedıkleri bu olsa gerek
true, but more checks lower the chances to die in that rollercoaster:)
Can anyone tell me what does she says at 2:03 "they simulate a xxxxxx here" because i dont know english im from spain, please
Carlos Yáñez they simulate a stricken coach here.
stricken coach
Thank you
Jay / xxamazingjayxx Although she should have actually said "a stuck coach" because it would only be stricken if the second one ran into it. There are many many things wrong with this video.
I wanna ride thiss!
That is the ugliest roller coaster train ever.
I think the thumbnail was goliath at magic mountin
Do they have to do this everyday before the park opens?
Lance Cochran yes
how u do that lol
that is THE shittiest ride they could've chosen out of all the rides
True
Isn't this the roller coaster from Final Destination 3?
No.
The ride from Final Destination technically doesn't exist. They used loads of photoshop and editing to make it look longer, taller and faster.
+That Guy With the Pointlessly Long Username That You Are Wasting Your Time Reading Right Now it's in ca it's real the ride but you are right most of it is edited.
No
Kellie S FUCK NO.
Yep 305 feet equals 90 meters.
I love six flags though
"ultimate thrill" nice try
MrGreenDumps2 have you been on it? Lmao
Les lambdas en sueur
roller toaster
What did you think they flew?
People also die from cars.
as far as i know, most people die by droping them into lake
ahh, sorry, it was in roller coaster tycoon..
I went on this when I was 11! ❤️ I’m nearly 13 now! ❤️
that's paint.
ok thanks
