Small correction for anyone trying to use the Eufy lights with WLED: In LED preferences they need to be color order BRG with W and G swapped, I said W and B in the video.
Full explanation of using WLED with Eufy/Govee here: czcams.com/video/F7IhSKJ41rU/video.htmlsi=720loC0GEXehwGlS&t=332
Thanks for the update!
When you show "Home Assistant: No" for the Eufy lights, does that just mean direct integrations from HA to Eufy, or does that include the WLED integration in HA? I would assume any lights that are WLED compatible would be HA compatible, but wanted to check before purchasing the Eufy ones!
@@PiercingGoblin Just the Eufy controller, WLED will always work with HA.
How do you connect the Eufy kit to WLED?
Seems like you’re going to do a video mid November… looking forward to it!
(I’m hoping to find out how to extend beyond 100ft with Eufy… I’m planning on using 2 kits, just need to know how to connect them together … possibly with WLED?)
@@TheHookUp Can do a walkthrough on how you set up wled to control the Eufy lights? I’m puzzling over using the included 36v power supply where most controllers seem to have an input range of 5v-24v. How do you manage it?
Great video on permanent exterior lighting. I can't believe that you went to the trouble of buying all of the different types of lights, and actually hanging them on your own house. The side by side comparisons of all of the different lights puts your videos and your channel at the next level. Thanks again for all that you do.
Well 148 links and no reply’s lemme change that
Your review blows out of the water every single other review about permanent LED lights I have seen and | have watched a lot. A thousand thanks!
Awesome work! You never let us down with the in depth reviews. Keep it up!
Perfectly timed video, I've been looking at these kits for a few days now. I just started the video but I'm confident that after this the decision will be a doddle after one of the insanely thorough comparos you do.
Your work is impeccable man. Youve one of the best review channels. Your patience and indepth analysis is insane!
Thanks!!
You are a WILD MAN!!! Installing all those lights at the same time?!?!??? Wow. I'm super impressed. Super great review! A++++
There's the guy! Funny story, when I was adding tags to this video it suggested I add the "HandyDadTV" tag.
thanks for another awesome video. Just cut the cables and installed my Eufy on my Dig-quad. In case anyone else is trying to use WLED with the Eufy lights, I had to swap W & G to make it work rather than W & B. It was otherwise exactly as outlined. Great tutorial!
Thank you TONS for putting so much effort in these. You have no idea
I can't imagine the money and especially the time you put into these videos. Hanging and re-hanging light strips on a two-story house has to be mind-numbing work! Excellent video, I hope it pays off many times over.
I did want to see every light kit lit up. Great vid and thanks for the hard work you did installing each kit, but mostly filming, and editing.
I work with these lights a lot. Thanks for doing a side-by-side video! It was fun to see and your hard day's work and editing is appreciated!
Which do you like working with the most?
Really excellent job. Man you did a lot of work. Covered all aspects of outdoor lights. Thank you
Thank you! The detail of this review, as always, is amazing.
Now this is what a quality review/comparison looks like!
Wow! Thank you so much for doing this video! Happy new year!!! Will save this for the upcoming holidays.
Dude! This is an awesome tutorial. Thank you for putting the time to make it happen. I went with the Govee non-pro version, and I'm glad I did. The app is fantastic, and I love that I can run them on WLED. It would be great if you could show us how to integrate some of the most compatible light kits into an X-lights Christmas show. Thanks again, bro.
I'll be making that video (xlights with off the shelf kits) in mid/late November.
will be the way you can extend some of them beyond what the manufacture says. as its just a simply setting in the WLED software. will be interesting to see if voltage drop then plays a roll, why they likely set the limit.

Anyone know if it would be possible to sync multiple separate buildings like home and garage?
Specifically with Govee and a Weld controller

Great video as always! I totally agree with you about needing to have a warm white. It's a non-starter for me for permanent install. Would be able to use year round with warn LEDe.
good timing for this video and very in depth as usual :)
Greetings from Australia!
Thank you so much for all the time, effort & money you put into these reviews. They are amazing.
Especially renting the cherry picker lift must have been expensive & a pain but we really really appreciate it.
Just don't go bankrupt with your reviewing addiction.
I've just started looking into these style lights and thought "I'll wait for The Hook Up to set me on the right path" - perfect timing, thanks!
Haha, happy to help!
Very nice Job Sr.!
Congrats and thank you so much for your hard work!!!
Very professional review ...
Loved the use of the man lift ...
Just ordered 3 Govee standard kits...(1 for Moms home)
Very well put together video Rob. Thanks
Damn nice testing. Answered all of my questions.
Great review, as always! You have a great engineering mind and never leave a stone unturned, GOLD STAR 😀
Amazing review! Thanks for doing all that installing so we don't have to!
What a great video. This is exactly what I needed to see. Just today, I got a quote for $10k to have lights installed! The lights looked identical to the YPS puck tracks. I think I'll be doing a DIY install and saving myself some serious $.
😮😮 that's a lot! Didn't realize it can run that high for professional installations.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. This video helped me tremendously. Your hard work and head ache of work is greatly appreciated. 👏👏
Was very helpful think imngoing with the govee lights after your video. Thanks for taking the time to do the video
Thank you so much for putting this together!
Man, this video does not have the views it deserves!!!! Well done!!!
Somehow you are always reviewing interesting things that I want!
All part of my master plan.

Speaking as a very brand-new person discovering this stuff at 70-years old, I laughed out loud at your description of permanent lighting kits as 'a gateway drug'.
Whee!
Thank you so much for the comprehensive comparisons!
Great Video. Thanks for the info, it's just what I needed to help make my decision.
Thanks so much. I’ve been looking up spotlights recently to add the “washed” look, and your demo of the YPS track has me sold. I’ll need to introduce 12V into my setup - it doesn’t seem like you needed power injection, which is nice.
Power injection is needed roughly every 10m.
@@TheHookUpWhat about the 5 LED/m variant? Still every 100 lights (10m) or can you get away with further?
Even with the 10 LED/m variant, if you have a 20m segment, would that be a middle and end injection or just middle?
If just doing 1 parallel run of ~100ft of power cable with tapping into it along the way, do you recommend 16awg or 14awg?
Another awesome video, thank you so much!
Great review! Thanks for your hard work.
Thanks for the comparison,very detailed
This could not be more timely for me. I'm just not really ready/able to spend the time doing all the wiring/dealing with the power supply & electronics stuff which comes with doing a custom setup with RGBIW strips or whatever. Have recently been close to pulling the trigger on a Govee set so this is much appreciated!
Yeah he talked me out of it as well 😂
Great timing!
As always a very informative video, thanks
Great video! Thanks for all the info. Have you ever looked into the Twinkly lights? I’ve been wanting to splice and extend those.
Project Farm vibes are strong with this video. Great job 👍
Love me some Project Farm
Great video comparison. Thank you for doing this..
Thank you on this great video!
Amazing tutorial. I would 100% pull the trigger on buying permanent lights. My only issue is that most likely every year they will continue to update them.
So helpful!
Great video I was lost on which to get till I saw it. I'm gonna go with Govee
Just finished installing the Govee's a few days ago, and after seeing this I feel pretty good about my choice. The price point was awesome ( they were on sale for Prime Day 2 ) so factoring that in they are great for the money. Now I kind of want to mess with WLED though...
did you do the pro or standard? How do you like the white? I want to do whites most of the year and use the colors for special occaions
I've just watched a video showing how to use them with wled
Wow what a great video comparison! 😊
As always, great analysis and comparison Rob. I'd love to go the permeant route, but with a mid-century modern roofline, I don't have continuous soffits and my trim is not white. So any of these would stand out like a sore thumb in the off season. The quest continues ...
The aluminum tracks come in a bunch of different colors, you could probably color match your soffit.
I was going to avoid buying a style I like that only comes in black, for that reason, but then I saw online that cords can be spray painted with Rustoleum. I just wonder how long it will last in the weather.
@@natashafarrell4526I've had my 🟣 cat6 cables for my cameras painted white for 3+ years now. In the shade, but Vegas heat
Thanks a ton for this video! I've been seeing a lot of Govee reviews lately, and I was considering them... but after your review, I'm leaning toward YPS. It just seems like a lot easier to get a "clean" install with those, and I'd really not have to climb up on a ladder in the dark to try adjusting individual bulbs. That, along with the higher density allowing for more flexibility, I'm really leaning that direction. Only downside is the Govee would be ready to go for the wife to start playing with, but YPS is gonna put a lot on my plate to get to the same place ;)
YPS is definitely better if you feel comfortable, or feel like you might want to do more hobby type stuff down the road. If you just want lights, and you don't want to expand later then Govee is the way to go. Eufy is a nice middle ground.
I want to use the Govee but have stucco soffits. The 3D printed mounts are a great idea. Now I think I can go ahead with my lights.
Love the project farm vibe
Impressive detail and video editing.
I really appreciate all of your videos and how much you test everything out for us! But I must wonder what your neighbors think? Lol, always changing lights and I imagine you were up and down on the roof constantly just making this video. If you were my neighbor I think we'd be best friends lol.
I have a good relationship with my neighbors. They know I'm mostly not crazy.
Great and timely video sir! For the Eufy lights, if you have and install more than 1 set, are they controlled interdependently well with the app? AND is it possible to add one segment to a set - having one set with 7 segments and the other with 5 segments? - my first floor has a bit more to cover than the 2nd floor.
Amazingly timely. I really want to buy a set, but I also really want to do WLED in the future. And after seeing the pictures I realize I need that separate warm white LED too. Sounds like Eufy is the way to go for me. This is amazingly helpful, thanks so much.
Yep, seems like Eufy is your best bet.
@@TheHookUp- for 100% WLED DIY with pucks, do you think there's a cheaper route vs. buying the Eufy and throwing away the controller? I'd love it if I could just buy the strips/pucks themselves with no power supply/connectors/controller/etc.
The pucks don't have the same "scalloped" look as the lensed nodes from Eufy/Appeck/Govee.
@@TheHookUp Are the white LEDs on the Eufy individually addressable?
Using the Uefy controller I can’t seem to set just one led on warm white while all others are off. Can it be done with WLED?
@@FreQi Yes, it can easily be done in WLED. According to Eufy that functionality will also be added to their app after the next update.
You can make the Eufy lights warm white when making a color combination. Just click on it white (it’ll become pure white) then un click it and it becomes warm white. Worked for me.
Phenomenal review. I picked up a set of the Govee Pro lights in white. The PSU on this does not say it is waterproof on the bottom or on the govee main site. I am not sure if you are US based or not. One thing I would incourage when doing reviews is to add feet/inches when mentioning sizes. Products here are always set to feet and inches, it one of the most annoying things about products coming from abroad like China/Govee. They do things in meters. But just a great and concise review. That light show rabbit hole is making me think twice about these pro govee lights. The eufy lights also had a feature which was unique. It could integrate into their camera's and security cams somehow. I know the govee pro have matter integration but that is still being hashed out to how well they play.
Love the video, I am sorry I couldn't help but think "Make your neighbors, hate you with this one simple trick... hang 6 different LED lights up at once!"
Not gonna lie, the JLG manlift makes a LOT of loud beeping noises when you move it. Pretty sure my neighbor who works at home does hate me now.
Great review. Thanks for all the great info. On the Eufy lights, if I wanted to cut and extend them the 10' you said worked, what kind of wire do I need. 3 wire or 4 wire? Thanks!
So much works for that video maannnnn😂🎉nice work
As always .. very informative video.. great effort … hats off to you…
I’m planning to use yps.. can you pls advise which controller and power supply to use which is great and reliable
Impressive review!
Such a great video and super impressed with all of that effort. One question; Would you ever consider running COB led lights over these? Im not a huge fan of the scalloped look and I have been searching for a COB LED that would work based on your other video with COB lights.
To do a house in COB addressable would be a much larger project, and much more expensive. Depending on the density of the COB strip, you'd quickly run into pixel limitations with many controllers, not to mention the much beefier power supplies that would be needed, and of course a ton of power injection... It's definitely doable, but it would take three times as long and cost three times as much, and be three times the hassle and expense when there's a failure.
If you were looking for a similar effect, then I might suggest one of the milky silicone profiles that can be hung and can illuminate up to 360 degrees.
Just my thoughts on it...
Excellent comparison video. I bought the GoVee permanent outdoor lights, non-pro version back in July and just got them installed over the last few weeks. I’m very happy with the way it looks. I had made a cardboard template to keep the light nodes 3 inches from the wall for installation without having to keep pulling out a tape measure or ruler. So that was a useful thing. If I were to do it again, I would probably bring the lights 4 inches out from the wall. I don’t see any advantage to the Govee pro other than the warm white lights and it’s not really something I would be using very often. Plus, I’d rather have the brightness and more lights than the Govee Pro array gives. I have thought about running a separate string, just for warm white, if such a thing exists, but I would only be using that for security, or perhaps non-holiday accent lighting, but I don’t know. It’s still not worth it to me to get the Govee pro at this time.
I took my time spacing the light nodes over the center of large windows, and other features of the house, so that worked out fairly well, and I think the wired system as opposed to a track system provides more flexibility for this. The wires are not really visible at all from the front of my house unless you get right underneath the eaves. So that doesn’t concern me very much. I definitely recommend buying more clips though that’s essential I think.
Nice, the template is good idea.
Great idea using the template, as popular as Govee is perhaps someone has made a 3d printable mounting bracket
Do you soffits? If so, what type and length of screw did you use?
What clips did you go with the ones that come with or did you find other clips that worked?
Yeah I’m kicking over the idea of running a warm white strip next to the Govee pixels as well just for later.
Nicely done comparison.
Great info! Wish you had a shot with all of them on at the same time 😂
haha
Great breakdown, I’m very interested in this product category but I don’t have soffits just 5 inch rain gutters so I’m not sure it’s possible for my home built around 1960.
Great comparison review once again. Love these vids.
Question: If budget wasn’t an issue, are there higher end products out there? What would a pro use?
The YPS stuff is the same that the pros use.
I just did some Ray Wu RGBW TM1814's and their aluminum track, they look awesome (similar to the YPS but way brighter) and the warm white is excellent. No bleed through from the blue like you get with some LEDs. Pricey though. 30M of track, 14 strings (280 pixels) and meanwell power supply for about $650CAD to my door.
Don't suppose you have a link to what you got..as well as the channels? This is the route I'd like to go. Nice warm white is key. Thank you
Yes, would love the link for all that's required for this -- YPS is sold out of their puck tracks.
Bro serious? Looking the Ray Wu store it looks like 30M of track is $1k plus $600 for shipping to here in the US. That's before the strings and power supply...
@tburch12785 each "order" of track is 10 1 meter sections. For some reason it only shows you that on the desktop site, not the mobile app.
@@xnizonyt ohhh yeah that makes a difference lol. Thanks man.
Bloody hell just saw your correction lol.
Thanks for this. Not entirely sure why but on my string I had to swap W and G to get everything to work correctly
Awesome comparison
Wow thanks for this. Was trying to decide between Govee non pro or the YPS pixels. I think I’ll go Govee because I have some other of their products in my house and one app to control them all sounds good, but I love the idea of a WLED controller in the future. Any way to do a data repeater on the Govee? I’m going to have to jump about 10 feet from lower to upper level and hope to keep it working right.
Thanks for the very informative video! I bought some of the Eufy lights and have installed them on the lower story of my house and they're great so far. I have a bit of a longer gap between strands, and I'm hoping to be able to bridge that gap without soldering. Do you have any experience finding a longer extension cord for the Eufy lights, or stringing two together? I see you could do around 10 feet in the middle of a strand, but I'm wondering if extending between strands could go longer than the included 12 foot extension cord.
Amazing video dude. This made making the choice so easy.
Could you hit us with the link for the clips you used for these? Any advantages to different types of clips?
Great comparison cheers
I like how Chris Maher was able to wire the Govee to WLED controller
Yep, I tested all the LEDs in this video for WLED compatibility.
Thanks for the video. Any chance you have a dedicated Holiday Lights update video in the works? I'm curious to see how your Holiday setup has evolved since your last video. :)
Yep, November.
Awesome video and I so appreciate all the trouble you went through!
I have a question, how would I know what power supply is needed for the YPS system? Thank you!
That was covered in the video
My soffits look just like yours. I've been a little nervous screwing in to them, but I know the 3M won't last very long where I live (hot summers). What type and length screw did you use? I saw somewhere #8 3/4 inch? I also read self tapping? thank you and great video. I got 2 150FT Govee the other day and after watching your video it looks like I made a good choice.
What a review!
I was wondering if the ones there selling on the Govee Canadian site ,the same as the non pro kits ? they look the same but different boxing , I am waiting for them to arrive ,thanks awesome video!
@TheHookUp fantastic video! Thank you for showing the YPS 5 and 10 puck density. Which do you prefer? I am thinking of going with 10 and then I can always program it to appear like the 5 if I like that better. I also want to do an Xlights show in the future. Edit: I typed my comment before listening to the end!
I'd definitely go with 10 puck. For stationary patterns I prefer 5 puck, but for animations 10 puck is much better.
@@TheHookUp that was my conclusion after watching your video 5 times over. Best of both worlds!
A like and comment for such effort. Thanks!
I saw in the video for the Eufy lights that you could not use the warm white light in combination with another color currently or individually adress the warm lights on or off. Do you know if Eufy plans to fix that in the application so i can set a candie cane (red/warm white) pattern ? Currently it looks like it only uses the white from RGB led and not the dedicated warm white. Or would i have to go with a WLED controller?
Awesome video and i appreciate it.
Thanks for yet another amazing test. Which of the lights will be available in EU/ Denmark ?
I believe the Govee lights are already available in EU.
For starters... Great video and perfect timing. That said, now im in a pickle. I saw your video from 2020 and around June of this year started working on getting 200mts of ws2812b, QinLED Uno and so on. Question: If you could do it again, would you go with the any of these or the DIY RGB strip? I like the effects you can make with the RGB, but LOVE the ease of install of these!
I like them both. The strips look much more "festive" to me, I have them pointed out towards the street so it's a very obvious effect while the wall wash pattern is a bit more subtle.
@@TheHookUp Appreciate the response. Guess you werent kidding when you said 'I respond to most of the comments'. My wife liked the strips so ease of install goes out of the door! Cheers mate!
This was too much information for me. Great review I’m sure for those who are gurus and professionals
Well done!
Incredible job - nobody else would go to all that trouble to review LED's - you are a MONSTER! 🙂
I just installed the Oelo permanent lighting system a few days ago, and my neighbors thought I was crazy with the 45 foot man lift LOL. You installed 5 different systems! Your neighbors must think you’re absolutely insane. Great video.
Oelo is a 36V system that comes in aluminum tracks, kind of like the YPS tracks you showed here. The Oelo is expensive, but it comes with everything you need and it’s 36V, which I really wanted because I had some extremely long runs and I didn’t want to deal with power injection. I looked at YPS, but I didn’t want to have to figure out my own power supply, controller, weatherproof box, etc. I paid about $2500 after taxes and shipping for 150 linear feet of the Oelo system in aluminum, which comes out to roughly 200 lights (I estimated a YPS system would have been in the high $1000s after I added all the other stuff I would need). And that Oelo price I paid is after a 25% discount, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have done it. Expensive, but like it said came with everything and all the components are very high quality. Except for the app - the app is pretty weak, but it does the job. Great customer service though, and I found out they’re working on a new controller/app that’s coming out in 2024.
These are awesome. Can you show us how you use them with the WLED controller. I think that would be the best way to go.
Yeah, I think I'm going to take a "week off" video mid November and show how I have all my light show stuff installed and setup.
As always that would be greatly appreciated.
@@TheHookUp
I prefer the scalloped designs for festive lights, but prefer the YPS for a more year round usable light.
I agree, it's hard to choose, that's why I went with both... lol.
@@TheHookUp Haha, I was thinking about doing the scalloped lights and doing a neon style LED strip similar to what you had in an old video
Will you be doing a similar video on LED strip lighting or are the puck style the new standard? I am looking to permanently install lights this Fall and am looking for the best overall set-up. Great video!
I'll be making a video mid November talking about all the different kinds of lights. I now have every different style on my house, lol
The neatness and inconspicuous YPS would interest me the most but I’m put off by there not being an included power supply or controller. Is there off the shelf ones you would recommend?
I buy all of my lighting for my larger projects in custom lengths direct from Ali Baba... I mostly use GS8208 or SK9822... I always order double what is necessary for my project if it's a long-term project, that way I have a plug and play replacement for any parts that fail. If the LED will be exposed to the elements, I always order IP68, which is not really obtainable on the market without a custom order. The sellers are often cool with a smaller order, so long as you know exactly what you want.
In all the installs that I've seen, the lights are mounted 3-6 inches from the house. I've got a gabled 2-3 foot overhang around my house. The flat surface is at the end of that overhang, so the lights would be mounted 2-3 feet from the house. Would that still create a good effect? Also, If I did mount them closer to the house they would be sloped like the overhang is. Would that affect the way the lights illuminated the house?
