Your dedication to always buy a 2nd unit for testing just to make sure you haven't received a faulty product at first deserve a LOT of respect.
That's giving a product a fair shake. Although it feels like the company should have sent a replacement since it was so significantly bad.
Fun fact: He returned both units.
@IAmHeisenberg That's actually true. These are actually the first products from a video I've ever returned. I keep anything I end up recommending to be references for future videos, and sell the rest at a loss on eBay. In the case of the Nexar I would not have felt right selling those products, no matter what the price. They just plain didn't work and as such returning them to the company seemed like the best option.
Most underrated channel I have ever found. This was awesome! Thank you for all this valuable information.
Best compare channel on youtube..
Thanx
Incredible testing as always Rob. It’s amazing how this channel has grown and in depth reviews like this are exactly why!
It's scary how many things I've learned from watching this channel. Phenomenal as ever. Looking to get 2 different models to compare.
Great and thorough reviews everytime. Love your channel.
Always appreciate the amount of effort and time you put in to these comparisons. Thanks!
Wow, this video couldn't have better timing. Hopefully getting my first car soon. Cheers man :)
This is a great comparison/review video. Even though I try to avoid using cloud based products, its good to know what is available and what these dash cams can do. Thanks for making this video!
These companies have lost their minds with these prices. It’s insane. Amazing review, we appreciate all of your research!
This was literally EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thanks!!! Maybe next time if you can show the Drone XC dash cam that connects to some different security and remote start systems.
Thank you! This was exactly what I was looking for to sort out all of the options, etc. available to retrofit my 2011 BMW X5 xDrive 35d. I started by looking at the BMW Advanced Car Eye 3.0 Pro Dashcam and upon learning it was actually a rebranded Thinkware product I ended up at this video.
I have a couple of questions and, an enlightenment for you and your viewers. The first question is what do you think about the Vantrue N5 4 Channel WiFi 360° All Sides Dash Cam vs Vantrue N4 Pro 3 Channel 4K WiFi Dash Cam. I am most interested since Amazon has a special right now that brings the price of the N5 to $60 less than the N4. That is the "enlightenment." lol
Also, you spoke of something that could be added to the N4 that would make it more similar to the features of the dashcams you were reviewing in this video. If you wouldn't mind expanding upon that subject I suspect that I am not the only viewer who would be grateful.
Lastly, If you have a positive recommendation for the Vantrue N5 4 Channel WiFi 360° All Sides Dash Cam, I would appreciate it if you had a link so that I could repay you a little for the work done here. TIA
Does the Vantrue N4 Pro use a lot of car battery power?
Thanks for all your hard work I know this is a little off topic but has anyone used a dash cam or security camera to create a virtual window. I've often I thought a semi-convincing digital viewpoint and display would be awesome and Ive wondered when a good design would show up.... Maybe it has, unknown or unreachable to me. It will be a project to make one But any advice on cameras or TV or especially the command software would be awesome aloha mahalo
Great video and just what I was looking for. Still on the fence though. Thank you.
One caveat though. Please don't do a comparison video of quality when you are using the top product of one with the middle product of another. Either keep those comparisons out, or get the top product of all involved.
Comparing the Nextbase 2k with the 4k versions of the others, when there is a Nextbase 4k version available... then saying that the Nextbase just can't compete with its lesser number of pixels . LOL.
But it looks like I will either be getting the Thinkware (with the radar addon) or the Blackvue.
Thank you again!
Those breakin tests really show you how little real world testing these things must go through.
Judging by the viewcount/interest in this video, maybe it's just a VERY small market segment.
ARE THERE ANY DASHCAM WITH EXTERIOR MIRROR CAMERAS OPTIONAL?
Great video. These prices are utterly ridiculous, though.
Something about watching you hit your own windshield LOL
In all seriouness, I love your work
Anything for science.
Super underrated channel
Have you done any testing or comparison between vantrue n4 pro and the vantrue n5 (or pro version if it exists)? I need to buy a dashcam and but am unsure if the n4 pro or n5 should be the go to choice. Thank you very much!
Yes, both the N4 Pro and N5 are in my previous video: czcams.com/video/lzdxCOvPq5Q/video.html
N5 uses the inferior IMX675 image sensor compared to the IMX678 in the N4 Pro.
@@TheHookUp Thank you for pointing me to that video I had missed, it was very helpful!
I have two non-cloud BlackVues with rear cameras (DR900X-2CH Plus, and DR750-2CH). Both are often missing footage from the rear camera when I want to look at it. That is unacceptable with a camera this expensive. I will try a Vantrue next time.
You should do the best reverse camera
To me, the best dashcam is the one that can read license plates in Sun light or night with bright headlights on.
You should check out this video then: czcams.com/video/lzdxCOvPq5Q/video.html
Is there another Vantrue model that is equivalent to the N4 Pro but has just front and rear cameras?
Not yet unfortunately
Would have liked to see more on privacy (not just about life360). what do we know about any of these other companies that will be hooked into our vehicles (video/audio) in real time?
There’s no way to tell.
@@TheHookUp agreed. So a Con for all?
I guess. Feels like a bit of a cop out to just assume all of them are selling your data without any evidence of such. Nextbase for instance is a UK based company and I feel like the EU would absolutely crucify them if they sold user data without consent.
Who do the cloud services sell your data to?
Impossible to know for certain, I prefer to be optimistic but cautious.
What about the RING car cam?
Silently discontinued. This video was actually supposed to come out months ago, but my Ring Car Cam pre-order was never filled and was eventually just cancelled.
thank you as always, but why buy just a dashcam when there are dashcams with radar and camera detectors. i'd appreciate a review on those.
I'm not likely to start reviewing radar detectors any time soon. You should check out @VortexRadar here on CZcams.
I would suggest for future videos doing your car battery drainage test measured in Ah, standard car batteries are measured that way, only high voltage EV batteries are measured in KWh/Wh
Ah doesn’t make any sense because they are a mix of 12v and 5v. Wh are independent of voltage.
@@TheHookUp but your talking about draining a 12v car battery and 12v car batteries are measured in Ah
But if a 5v dash cam draws 10 amp hours thats only 50 watt hours, which means it only draws 4.1 amp hours from the battery. Amp hours are not a unit of power, period.
Why didn’t you put the Nextbase IQ 4k? The other cameras are 4k.
Price and availability
👍👍👍👍👍
*This market segment NEEDS WORK! I'll wait until in matures. Tell all the companies your findings!*
They definitely do
I'll stick with my tried and true VIOFO A119.
Have you seen the a119 mini 2 with the starvis 2 sensor?
What car is that?
Rivian R1S
where’s 70mai omni?
The OMNI's LTE service is only available in Europe unfortunately.
The best cloud connected camera is a rock. Friends don't let friends use the cloud.
I'm not aware of any other option for someone who wants real-time notifications for their dashcam. If a local option existed I'd be all over it.
Good luck getting your footage out of the car without some sort of cloud connection...
I used blackvue 900xplus then bought thinkware's u3000 last year gotta say both can do better their apps & clouds stuff are very inconsistent some times works right off the bat others not so much. Blackvue has no right to charge so much when they lack so many features like sos, low bit-rate recording, energy saving mode & more. Another thing about them how every update they take 1 step forward 2 steps back last year with stupid app redesign they had it where you can view anyway live feed with others across world without them knowing they changed it casue they got called out.
Jesus Christ!! All I want is a dashcam that records when I'm driving so if I get hit I can show the police the whole thing...as long as I didn't cause it.
Vantrue N4 Pro
Some people seems to don't read the titles of the videos 😔
Incredible comparison, as always. This isn't the fault of The Hook Up, but I do want to note that the right-hand-side info-graphic shown at 16:20 is one of the most useless diagrams I've seen in years.
Showing the number of deaths without considering the number of vehicle-hours is utterly meaningless and it is entirely predictable that more populous states will have more deaths.
They even show some numbers in bolder fonts as though those states were more dangerous, but they are not. This is just STUPID, STUPID, STUPID and I'd like to smack whoever made it for wasting everyone's time.
That info-graphic conveys no useful information *except* for the graduated licensing claim made in the lower-left (below Alaska).
While still not perfect, it took me 5 minutes to rank the following sampling of states by number of teen deaths per million people:
Oklahoma = 38.8
Kentucky = 30.7
Florida = 22.4
Texas = 21
California = 15.2
New York = 9.5
Wow, what a difference and this is only a partial list. Teens in Oklahoma are 2.5 times more likely to die in a vehicle as they are in California (considered the most car-addicted state), yet the info-graphic shows California's number in much bolder print as though it's more relevant. That's just stupid.
They *could* have done what I just did in their graphic, but instead chose to waste everyone's time by just counting deaths and pretending that bigger numbers are worse :(.
Yeah, I was mostly interested in just the left side of that infographic.
Vantrue? No Viofo at all? Tops in tons of other reviews...STARVIS sensor for half the price of others.
I don't know what you are trying to say, neither Vantrue nor Viofo have cloud dashcams. My last video showed pretty definitively that the Vantrue N4 Pro outperformed the Viofo A139 Pro for less money while adding a screen: czcams.com/video/lzdxCOvPq5Q/video.html
That video also has the 70mai A810, which I assume is the camera you're talking about being half the price of others for the same IMX678 sensor, but as mentioned in my other video has image processor limitations and uses lithium ion battery instead of a super capacitor. Again, I'm not really sure what you trying to say.
He did a video on Viofo czcams.com/video/lzdxCOvPq5Q/video.htmlsi=b7d9W_v49SnWhstl&t=722 and found that it couldn't read license plates compared to other Starvis 2 dashcams.
@@Sleetuinot on any of my tests. I disagree with this statement. I have Viofo A139 Pro, A229 Pro, Thinkware U3000, Vantrue N4 Pro, and Blackvue Dr970x plus on my windshield. They all read license plates.
They all read plates. At night the Vantrue does it best and it’s not even very close.
@@TheHookUp not same results I find at all. I find they are all very close. The A139 Pro, A229 Pro, and N4Pro are all close at night. Blackvue, thinkware fall off at night due to no HDR. A229 Pro first version of firmware was really bad and did not do well. But since December they have fixed it with newer firmware. I do agree the N4 Pro has done well just I do feel from my testing it is on par as other 2 Viofo at night.
It is a shame Thinkware U3000 did not implement HDR would have been amazing camera.
Great job putting in the effort in reviewing dash cameras and bringing awareness to the category.
You can buy these straight for china for a fraction of the cost . These companies are ridiculous
Buying straight from China usually means you're getting a Chinese Region Only product that has not been licensed to work in the US and therefore import taxes and tariffs have not been paid, which is why it's significantly cheaper.
I will never trust a cloud product
That's fair, unfortunately no solution exists to get notifications or live view without the cloud.
@TheHookUp Sadly so, hopefully there will be a solution one day where I can put my own SIM in, and connect to the dash cam directly (aka it has its own server in the camera) and avoid the cloud entirely. Similar to having a CCTV system at home where you can remotely connect directly to the system.
Biggest concern towards the Nextbase is its not discreet.
There's an argument to be made about the deterrent factor, but I feel like if it's not discrete it needs to have enough backup energy to get footage to the cloud in the event of a break-in and rapid unplug.
