Roy Keane left Manchester United after criticising his teammates for a 4-1 defeat to Middlesbrough in 2005. Sir Alex Ferguson said he had no choice but to let him go, otherwise he would've lost control and be viewed differently by his players.

Doesnt matter if you're 18 or 28. If you think you're some demi god in the changing room, i got no room for you.
No doubt Keane was the type of character you need in pitbull matches.
But once SAF saw that Keane was chewing off his own puppies, you know you got to let the beast (keane) go.
If only Keane knew the line, he could have stayed in ManU for a couple more years.
Alas, man forget humility and mercy towards others sometimes.
Kudos to SAF to let Keane go. It was the right choice.

At the end of the day, I dont think Fergie has anything personal against him, he definitely respects him and if i were roy id honestly just forgive the man. he had the privilege to represent man utd for 12 years and also serve them as a captain, he was 34 anyway so he was coming towards the end of his career. What a lot of people don’t realise is that the testimonial was already organised at the end of the season anyway and Fergie here is trying to go in the direction of saying that United organised it to honour that Roy was a great player, although the game was already scheduled to happen! Also if you listen to Keane since, he says that Ferguson told him United had cash flow problems when they were trying to pay up the remains from his contract it was a very messy ending and definitely could have been handled better - people should read each of their autobiographies that will give them a clearer picture. That said Ferguson & Keane would have spoken to each other during his testimonial & during the Sunderland vs United games in 2007 so I find it strange why Keane is so bitter towards Fergie even now 🤷‍♂️

Two head strong minds that were eventually going to butt heads in the end. it sadly came to an end during the MUTV interview. If you are going to call out someone you do in private or in the locker room with your teammates there. Sir Alex had to squash this because it would have done a whole bunch of damage in the locker room. I agree. As much as I like Keane, Fergie was backed into a corner. I think that incident on Man U TV was the last straw. There was a rift between the two for months on end. Around that time, untied was under performing, as they were going through a rebuilding process to compete with league champions Chelsea and Keane the outspoken Irishman was airing his frustrations out at everyone including Fergie. If Fergie had kept him at the club, there was a good chance he could've organized a coup to remove Fergie from the club, and take the hot seat as he was approaching the end of his career and considering management. It probably would not have happened, but Keane did have a tighter grip on the dressing room than Fergie, he was ruthless, hot headed, temperamental, extremely aggressive, held grudges and highly driven. I'm glad he's managed to mellow a lot in his old age and hopefully, they'll manage to let bygones be bygones, and reflect on their careers together.

And if I had of let it pass and I let it happen I think the players would have viewed me differently, much differently than I would've liked of. @@balaclavaman5400Keane's problem was he thought that being captain gave him licence to behave how he wanted towards other players and the manager. The rules didn't apply to him.
As regards the MUTV interview, Ferguson's rule was that at Man Utd you don't criticise another Man U player in public. It was all done behind closed doors. Keane himself had benefitted from this when Fergie defended him publicly for his various scrapes such as being arrested for assault, the Haaland tackle, being kicked out the world cup. But Keane blatantly disobeyed Fergie's rule by criticising his teammates in a public broadcast. The fact the players were fine with it was irrelevant. Fergie was the gaffer and he felt it was unacceptable. But Keane still wouldn't accept Fergie's authority, and they ended up in a huge row. Fergie showed him who was boss by getting of him 2 weeks later and there was nothing Keane could do about it. His ego was severely bruised and that's why he's still bitter nearly 20 years later.
Saipan has a lot of similarities. Keane gave a newspaper interview slaughtering the FAI, Mick McCarthy and the other players. There was no benefit to doing this during the tournament and it was bound to damage team morale. Keane should've waited until after the tournament to air those grievances but once again he felt he could behave how he wanted being Ireland captain. McCarthy had every right to challenge Keane for the newspaper article, and then send him home when Keane became abusive.
No one player is bigger than the team and that included Roy Keane regardless of his contribution.

Wayne Rooney has said multiple times that he wasn’t taking sides but that Roy didn’t say anything that bad or that wasn’t said before by Roy or Fergie himself. Fletcher said he had no problem with Roy and he was one of the players criticised. Seems like Fergie was lying again and being hypocritical again. Fergie has also said he never tapped up players before signing them but Stam was sent away after revealing that he did in his book. He turned on Rudd & Rooney after they alluded to it. Keane also said that Fergie tapped him up. Fantastic achievements as domestic league manager for Utd but got it wrong in Europe most of the time when it mattered due to his ego more than anything else.
