  • Keane says he believes a number of "lies" have been told about him in recent years and felt compelled to tell his "side of the story", prompting the writing of his autobiography with Roddy Doyle.
In a wide-ranging interview, Keane talks about the highs and lows of his career to date.

Today's players, unlike generations before them, are poles apart in regard to playing the game, I much prefer the rough and tumble of the 60's and 70's game, than the modern one, I think like society itself, its gone soft. But Players like Keane, would never let his standards drop, that's the difference between the current crop and the old one.

Please! This guy is unconstrained and socially unaware. He thinks that only his opinion is valid, and his behaviour is the standard that everyone should follow. He cannot bear to apologise for sabotaging his country's World Cup campaign, and he cannot be magnanimous about the manager that made his career. He tries to pretend that he is for honest players, and is not thinking about himself, but he is clearly only thinking about himself. He is not even honest. He just says what makes him sound good. Ask him about Alf Inge Haaland, how he ended his career with a deliberate, horrific tackle that was done out of revenge for Haaland breaking his leg in an unfortunate challenge the year before. He is a vicious, spiteful person, and that was great when he was at his peak (what a legend, as a player, btw!) but as a person, it is very flawed.

@@shanet5604 :Keane did try to get vengeance for Hawk and wrongly abusing him, and although Haaland already had an injury, he did have to retire FOUR games later, and he DOES harbour some resentment at Keane for precipitating his retirement. That's the facts that I'mright about.
Keane might not be responsible completely, but he is culpable, certainly. Even when he does wrong, he thinks he must be right. Don't just ask Haaland, ask McCarthy, ask Ferguson, ask the present RoI players. As a Leeds fan, I can still say he was a great player, but as a human being, he has some things he needs to understand.

Ian Wright loves football, you can tell. I seen nothing in Roy Keane that even hints at a love for football. He seems to resent football, probably because he's a has-been player and embarrassed himself trying to be a manager. Real men also don't try to end other player's careers by snapping their legs. And pls don't forget his childish treatment of the Ireland squad, his petulance and his treachery. Didn't he leave the squad DURING a world cup?

Don't know if you want or need any suggestions, but the one I would recommend is balancing your audio levels, and maybe some sort of mic adjustment. Nothing wrong with your narrative style, but whatever mic you're using is making your voice sound tinny. I'm saying it because he was an Inspirational leader of men on the football pitch and because of how he calls it like he see's it. There are no side's to him and what u c is what u get, I like that. I also felt he was let down and Hung out to dry by senior players like Quinn and Staunton at the 2002 world Cup and what he said at the time was right. Everybody knew the set up over there was not good enough and if Quinn and Staunton had backed him up instead of worrying about upsetting Mick McCarthy and losing their place in the team then what happened next might have been avoided. By the way, John o' Shea is Irish and I don't think he walks on water. Gerrard could play at centre mid, wide on the right or behind the striker. He even played right full back in extra time in the 2005 champions league final so he's more versatile then Roy Keane. But as a central midfielder I would give Keane the edge. As for other Liverpool fans disagreeing with me,I try and say what I think, not what other people want to hear. I also think Steven Garrard is an incredible footballer who alongside Ian rush was my favorite Liverpool player. I don't dislike a player just because he plays for man utd, their just doing their job and it's nothing personal. How can I dislike somebody when I've never met or spoken to them? Some of man utd fans leave my cold but that's another story. Liverpool fc and Manchester United are both great football club's and that's why there is such a rivalry.
