    A twist on the traditional woodworking shop tour. We go through one-by-one on the cost of each power tool and whether or not I paid for it. CZcams woodworkers tend to have big fancy shops with all the shiny new tools. I give my reasons and justify my tool choices and why my shop is so strange compared to a traditional woodworking shop.

      @rodneybosco7376 Před 11 měsíci +1

      I had to laugh at your miter saw rant. Ok, I laughed at a lot of your commentary but the miter saw was the best. I have spent the most $$ on my miter saw and, while I love how it cuts, I HATE the pitiful excuse for a dust collection design. I had to McGiver an exhaust port just to get it to fit my collection hose without (literally) falling off the machine when I use it. When I build my retirement shop (if my son ever graduates college) I will get the Kapex. Keep being you. Big fan

    • @silverbackag9790
      @silverbackag9790 Před 11 měsíci

      @@rodneybosco7376 A good quality and chunky old radial arm saw might work too. They apparently have decent dust collection. And can accept negative hook dado blades. But the Kapex would be a hell of a lot easier. Buy, minimally set up, cut.

      Amazing. Don’t ever apologize. I love how you acknowledged luck. Not everyone does. I grew up poor and remained poor. I lucked into a job that bought me a pretty amazing start up wood shop. I lost that job and sold my jointer. I deeply regret that. I do know, the more work I put in, luck seems to be on my side. I’ll get it back and I’m blessed that’s the only thing I sold. If it wasn’t for this new found hobby, I don’t think I’d be here. Love the videos

    The reason I watch your channel, and what sets it apart from others (to me) is how you make mistakes and recover. When I was learning I would become very discouraged when I screwed up. I watched your channel and you make mistakes but have fun with them. That helped me become a better woodworker. Thank you for that. Brag all you want you deserve to - you work hard at this and it comes through in every video (to me)!

    The explicit focus on fun and creativity and SAFETY is why this channel is one of the few I drop everything to watch the second I see a new video.
    For some reason there's a kind of cultish undercurrent on woodworking / diy / maker youtube that's obsessed with gatekeeping crap like fighting over what is "true" woodworking, "accessible diy", tools, etc. It's the same tendency you see in online games fandoms that tend to devolve into arguments over 'hardcore' vs 'casual' players. That's all just faff.
    Dont worry about the BS, Keep being you! or to put it another way: "Have Fun, Stay Passionate and Make Something" :)

    I've been watching you since you were The Drunken Woodworker building bandsaw boxes, and weren't gray... lol
    I know what it's like to build yourself and your brand up from the beginning.
    The haters that complain about you upgrading to better tools and a nice shop need to get off the keyboard and their laze butts and make something (like what I did there?), and maybe then they'd understand that no matter how you obtained any of your things, purchases or sponsorship, you earned it.
    Thank you, David.

    I never understand why people spend time in comments complaining about the tools youtubers use. I get they want to be able to make the same things, but you can have the tools too if you spend the money, otherwise, figure out a way to do it without them. Might be more difficult and take more time, but you will learn alot and hopefully enjoy the process. My shop is way too small for many of these and I just try to find different ways to do it. Great video.

It's fun, and it's accessible (mostly) (I don't have all the digital tools you have and I struggle with the Shaper Origin....learning that I suck at digital modeling....). I have learned a lot from you. I'm always hopeful you'll have a new project. They are truly inspiring. Not to copy, but to inspire some new project I can do. David, damnit don’t apologize for anything given to you or that you have bought because what nobody understands (which they don’t need to) is you have worked your ass off for everything you have. I’m 64 and an old disabled cabinet and furniture builder. I wish I would have worried about my health. I have a small shop and I’m finally worrying about that. Since being on fixed income now, I discuss any tool purchase with my wife and I have finally bought my first Festool (no crappy comments back to me people) and it was the CT15 and the 125 sander. Absolute night and day from other sander and shop vac. I love being in my shop and my 33 year old daughter wants me to teach her. Anyway getting off topic. Be proud of your space and f everyone else. I wish a had your shop. Keep it up, this is why I watch, your dead truth honesty

    I wish more woodworkers and makers would make a video like this. It's so interesting and really gives small CZcamsrs like myself, a different viewpoint on how things like sponsorships and promos work and how successful woodworkers handle them. Thanks David. I would love to hear more details on how and why you worked with who you chose to work with and chose not to work with

    Awesome video. It’s an amazing shop. As someone mentioned in an earlier comment it’s great for attract young kids. And loved your story about how you grew up. Makes people realize “You can do it” you just have to put forth the effort. Keep up the awesome videos 👏

    My 'shop' is 4ft x 6ft and is shared with my heating/hotwater system so even a tool like a bench top drill press is too big. That does not stop me from watching your videos and getting inspiration. I watch you do stuff with all those fancy tools then sit down and try to work out how I can do that with seriously limited hand tools and skill levels. Most of the time I fail completely but boy do I have fun trying. For me those are the two most important points you made in this video - get inspired and have fun! As for the luck, well it goes both ways. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. I get the impression that you accept both but don't rely on it.
    At 65 years of age I'm never going to have any of those fancy tools or a big shop and I just don't care. I just want to make sawdust and have fun changing the shape of bits of cheap crappy wood 'cos that's what rocks my boat 🤣
    Stay safe, have fun, be you and go feed those weinerdogs!

    I heard you talk about this video on Making It. I feel this is a really creative way to also give a shop tour. At the same time it looked like you had fun filming this as well. Glad I don't have a secret sliding door in my shop hiding all of those weird things 😂

    That's an impressive number of tools you fit into the space, it's spectacularly well organised! Honestly, I love "free tools" (and I do have a few out of luck) but nothing you have there is free, you work hard for all of them. By far the thing I'd love the most which you have is your imagination. I can build just about anything but I lack the imagination to know what to build.

    Gonna be honest, I gasped when you scribbled the paint on the Festool logo. 😲😲😲

    The Kapex is definitely on my wish list , I currently have the Ridgid 12” but it hard to sell with LSA warranty on it , I decided to get the Saw Stop CTS 52” table saw back in July 2020 , My 1st festool product was the PRO 5 LTD (2016) I purchased the mini dust extractor for it in 2022 along with the 150/5, RO90 and TS55 , my favorite thing about festool is the dust collection ability that it offers, The min dust extractor works great with any of my sanders , TS55 or even my Kreg 720PRO pocket hole jig. Great video
