Slow Down Satan
I got so anxious seeing the glass on the router table!!! Lol. Great job as always!
Me too!
Glass cracks when he's doing it not the best thing to do
yes that, and the metal bender twisting in the wood vise. xD
You can even see the bit is shaving off the edge off the glas because the glas is not straight and the bearing sits a little higher on the glas.
Love the metric or normal. Here in Australia, it’s imperial or normal. I work for a very big hardware company, and it’s very hard to buy imperial nuts and bolts. They’re only available in zinc coated, which lasts 12 months out in the elements at most
Quick look up says Aus uses Metric and SI, the only two countries that don't use metric are the Divided states of Murica , Lyberia and Myanmar.
@@suicidebylifestyle9267 Except that the US, Canada, and even Britain use both. There's really no reason _not_ to have both as an option. (We won't discuss liquid units. The American vs British gallon/liquid change is weird. One's 8 lbs, one 10, when you account for accuracy from three hundred years ago) BTW- the US doesn't use Imperial. They use US Customary. See the liquid comment.
My father's an engineer, and he has some interesting things to say about metric fasteners. It's basically that metric was developed by scientists who didn't understand the real world, and imperial/US customary was developed out of the real world by people who had no clue about science.
I have used lock miter bits for several years, and have had really good results with them. the 1/2" bit is great for making strong, really quick drawers and boxes.
These videos are a lot of fun David!! Regarding the red router edging thingy, I think I`d cut the bulk of the material off at the bandsaw before routing. That looked pretty sketchy lol
20:18 "for metric or normal"
Everyone in the world :🤨
I prefer to use the term "freedom measurements." America! F#@&! Yeah!!!
Can't stop laughing at dudes using imperial
10:13 When David makes two perfect locking mitres his excited inner Yoda comes out 😄
"I mean, this ins't a math cannel..." Freaking great! Love these episodes, David. As a fellow gen-x maker, I get it.
Ohhhhh... he said "math"! For some reason, my brain kept hearing "meth". That makes so much more sense. 😂😂😂
Definitely meth. Heard it every time
@@travisscavoni369 Yep, definitely "meth" but I watch these videos in half the time by dialling up the speed.
Great review David! I love it when you get excited about something and your voice goes really high
I bought the lock mitre router bit a while ago, and I am having trouble a) getting it set up and b) finding a piece of wood it doesn't rip to shreds. I'm sure it will work in the end, and I will try your set-up technique to see if it improves things. I was wondering about that flexible guide thing, so you saved me some money by demonstrating it!
Out of all of those items, those router bits that gave you no tear-out and no dust looked to be the most useful to me. I do a lot of templates on my router table so yeah.
I recently bought some spetools bits myself. The quality was remarkably good for the price.
I have a knock off the of the KREG clamp and they were good, then became instantly useless and fail to hold any clamping pressure. I also think you were supposed to get 2 for $50 (check timestamp 2:27)
I didn’t realize I was supposed to get two when the other one showed up in the mail the other day. 😄 4 weeks after the first one arrived.
That makes this so much better 😂😂
@@MakeSomething Well, you got your money's worth out of the shipping cost, lol.
I am not a craftsman at all but enjoyed this video! I think the thread identifier would be so handy at home, I am always using them at Home Depot or Ace! I love that metal bender but it would be one of those "buy once, use once" things for me.
Terrific video David! I always enjoy these "Let's find out what's in the box" videos! 👍👍👏👏
That exact drill guide thingy can be bought in german offline stores for 9€ (10$). It works okay-ish with metric sized drills and for that price is acceptable, but heck no for 30$.
If you are german, just buy all the wolfcraft stuff. For the money it's great, it's not for pros but it'll help you make a small project just fine.
Pretty sure I got mine from Lidl.
Fun video, it would be interesting to see you take that drill guide and fix it and make it useful. Look forward to seeing you bend some metal with that bender. Or you can make your own and do a comparison cost of your homemade one versus the cost of the store-bought and one. Keep the videos coming.
Why did Yoda start narrating part of the lock litter bit? Perfect it was. Made me laugh. 😂
Great concept, everyone would love to do this but just can’t risk the loss of money but you took one for the team 😂😂😂
I just opened CZcams and I gotta drive to Boston, right now, from Maine, but I can’t wait to watch this later. I love these ones!
I was born in 97. I remember stopping at a thrift store somewhere on the Oregon coast and they were still using the carbon copier to charge credit cards. Put my card on the thing, slide with a big "chunk chunk" then they just have to trust that you have the funds and you have to trust they won't steal your info. I was 18 then so it's pretty crazy how it seems we've gone so far but not everyone has.
Always entertaining and educational! 😋Seriously, the "fan" award is still cracking me up. Those compression bits look sweet -- I can't justify dropping big coin on those, but these seem like an economical alternative to others I've seen...
Thank you as always. Now I'm going to step away form the computer and Make Something.
Fun video! FYI - that mechanical pencil on the scribe tool has a sharpener built into the back cap. It's tiny, but functional and always on hand.
Looks like a Pica offbrand

We got that flexible template for our spindle moulder! We use it to make jigs, It's OK, we don't use it for anything precise more for decorative curves. For something where the radius is really important I prefer to use a trammel on a router!
For the Lock Miter, they make a plastic setup block to help with this, but how you did the setup looks easier .
I love these Facebook ad purchase videos. Looks like you had a lot of fun making this video too.
I know these product review videos are simpler and not technically making something, but I really enjoy them start to finish. Please keep doing them.
God please no. Seems like every woodworking channel these days is doing nothing but tools reviews now. A good mix would be nice but there is a problem with too much
Whoa! Don’t catch a real machete like that! 😅 great job, love the banter throughout!!
You are such a nice customer with such a beautiful philosophy: Whatever ads show up, I have to buy! I wish I had a woodworking jigs & tools shop.
The user that Facebook execs dream of!
Lock miter router bits are awesome. I use them to make column wraps.
I've bought spetool carbide end mills before and have been very happy with them!
I gotta admit im kinda tempted to redesign that drill guide. It looks super handy, and more useful than the one i use... if it didnt have that slop in it, it would be suuuuper useful
I’ve used the Spetools bits on the CNC and have excellent results
@ 10:15 he's so excited he channels his inner miss piggy😂😂
Hairpin legs would be great application for that metal bender. I like those router bits.
love the video's just now noticing you sound like Grover from Sesame street when excited/nervous
At 22:29 I see the metal riding on the handle that is higher which could make a crooked bend since one end is higher. I think the part that was bent could probably been flipped the other way but it would have been even better if they designed the handle to be on the bottom. It is basically same parts just have to mount one of the pins on the other side and then turn the handle upside down.
I'm sorry to say it, but I'm sad we didn't get to give out the Fan Award...
My wife and I live these videos...my wife also said oh my God what must his credit card company think about the scam buys lol
"routers scare me" let me buy the sketchiest bits that will probably become a rocket across my workshop lol
I love it when your voice gets high and excited 😊
🙂
Me, at 4:30: "You already got the scribing tool from Saker when you bought the profiling/template strip!"
I believe if they are using shopify for their e-commerce the tipping function is baked in.
Thanks for these reviews. I put the Fastcap scribe into my Amazon wishlist.
Great video! Those router bits were nice for the price!
Hey! @MakeSomething… you can probably swap out the knobs on the scribing pencil that you prefer the aluminum on for durability, with the better knobs on the cheaper plastic one. Most are pretty universal that way? I hope?
Did you use the lock miter bit on hardwood? Usually big bits cutting hardwood in one pass isn't pretty hard.
On the multi-scriber, cut a slot into each of the knobs. Then you can use a flathead screwdriver.
Always meant to build myself something like that Identibolt . Didnt know you could buy them . After seeing price - I'm still goimng to "get round" to buliding my own .
You could probly buy 50 of every bolt required and just use 1 to put on a board for that money!
have the Fast Cap compass/scribe haven't broken it yet, and I am hard on stuff. The little metal point things comes out of its spot so it needs some blue tape to keep it in place
Well, you did get scammed. But I love it when you do these videos and let’s face it, you’re doing a public service.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Can you try putting those 'tips' as a negative figure (-$50 tip), see if you can get money off.
the red thing you dont like comes very handy for me many times i just thing you use it wrong. its very helpfull when you need to make a copy of an object and i use them to make special templates so 12mm mdf works like a champ
The corner clamps you ordered actually said "2 pcs" on the checkout. It looks like they ripped you off by half! Fun video though, I'm glad I found you channel!
Yeah I noticed that as well, which IF they actually give you 2 it's considerably cheaper than the kreg!
According to the listing for the Saker 90 degree corner clamp, you get two for $50.99, so the is half price of the Kreg. You also stated that having two would be more useful than one, so the Saker product solves that issue also.
I think it mentioned x2 pieces... depending on what they call a piece, it might have been x1 clamp and the loose inside part is considered the 2nd piece? His order box should have contained x2 clamps though if it was indeed a x2 clamp order.
I’ve got one of those flexible router guide things and I’ll admit that I don’t use it a lot, but I don’t think it’s scam level. I use it to create router templates for the charcuterie boards I make. It’s good for that at least.
At 10:15 you do a wonderful Gonzo impression
Thanks for another fun, informative video.
Majority of the sites are just dropshippers copying and pasting products that are cheaper elsewhere but selling 10-20% higher for profit. Most don’t know what the tools are so they choose bad quality products or bad advertising. A lot of carpenters and woodworkers are helping them with trying the DIY products and projects, and the vids are good traction so everybody’s winning I reckon
I have that drill guide, I think whoever makes these also supplies Lidl here in the UK because that's where I got mine. On the plus side it was way cheaper than $30 (and it came with drill bits and dowels) but, yeah it's not the best tool. Mine's not as wobbly as yours but when drilling on to edges using the guide, it's really hard to keep it locked it to drill straight through but I made mine work for the joinery I needed.
You need to make a project using the tools that you bought in this series (maybe not all of them, but a bunch...) It would be an interesting 'constraint'...
With the scribing tool you didn't find the teeny weeny sharpener that is in the cap at the bottom of the pencil - sometimes you want a fine point!! Great video though, i've definitely wanted to buy some of this crud and maybe now I will or I won't!!
That yoda laugh at 10:15 lol
14:43 That strip could be useful on big commercial "Router Tables" (I dont know the correct translation here) 125mm Diameter cutter and go for it. (30-40mm Arbor)
Sure, depending on the shape you will probably have to remove dust collection equipment and various guards, but it could become useful under the right circumstances. Those small router bits dont stand a chance tho. With those, you will have to cut close to the line with a band/jigsaw and just use the bit for cleanup.
Pretty nice stuff this time, Dave! Really nice! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
on the compass, i have those pencils in my shop. There is a sharpener under the cap at the other end... That took me way longer to find than it should have.
There is a really useful sharpener under the tail cap of the mechanical pencil. Or at least there is on mine. It's nice for when you want a good point on your pencil lead.
I'm thinking the router template thing could actually be useful for laying out and cutting a wood router template (instead of sanding to your line), but because of the screw holes it leaves behind that is about it.
Could be used instead of scribing to create a template. If you have a curved surface that you need to mate up to you could screw it to a board to follow the profile
Yeah... only good for a template.
I was thinking about the screw holes as well.
My sincerest condolences David. Your family is in my prayers
Love these videos. Super useful. Saves me money! Mahalo for sharing! : )
Lock miter corners can be difficult to glue up and don't even bother to use lock miter bits on MDF.
17:00 if thats like every other deep reach mechanical pencil ive ever seen, there is a sharpener for the lead in teh back of the pencil. usually the back will unscrew on those to put the new lead in, that unscrewey cap part will probs have a sharpener.
Waitaminit... That box lid technique is genius. Why haven't I thought of that? Makes me feel dumb lol
I love this really CZcamsy content BTW
Don’t change dave your voice is fine. Can’t wait for this series to take off
I love these videos. They're hilarious, and you always wonder if these esoteric items are actually worth a crap lol.
One thing to point out, the SmartSaker vs. Kreg cost comparison isn't really valid because SmartSaker is for *two* clamps and not one, like the Kreg. I'm wondering if you only got one? 🥶
These are so much fun to watch.
The corner clamps’ match : Kreg’s being less jiggly, when handled, actually means something : it is likely that the threaded rod inside this clamp is machined with greater care, delivering at once more threads per inch. This commands a tighter coupling with the mechanism conveying pressure to the jaws More machining also means : a rod of a better alloy, granting great malleability and its enhanced resistance to brittleness or compression; it also reflects the use of superior processes and machinery that will yield results within narrower tolerances.
Oh, I forgot : it mainly means that adjustments on the Kreg’s, especially in the long run, will be far more precise!
sometimes you have to pay for the quality :) great video!
I have one of those locking mitre bits. I haven't used it yet though 😬 Let's see if it's worth the agro.
First, great and fun video. A bit of a critique, I don't get the hate on the guide, seems like you'd have your router on your workpiece and the guide below it, the bearing portion of the bit on the guide.
Some of those look like they are firmly in the "Thanks , you shouldn't have!" part of gift advertising.
Couldn't you use the spline tool to do a first pass, then cut it out with a jig saw and finish off with the template bit? I'm not sure if that's easier, but it seems like it would make it a lot more useful for thicker pieces.
The Saker sharpener is in the pencil cap!
I don’t own a router, I’m not a woodworker, and I watched this entire video and loved it.
"I'm gona buy facebook ads for woodworking"
Proceeds and buys a METAL WORK TOOL! 🙄🤣😂🤣
Great video once again sir 🍻👍
I don't know why CZcams recommended this to me, since I'm an artist that works with paint and beading (though I am planning on going back to school for Prop making and set building), but I'm so pleased it did!
Thank you!
When It comes the the bolt/thread gauge on the cable, I just have mine on a magnetic hook on the side of one of my tool boxes.
enjoying the review process
You could always use the flexible template to make a hard plywood template, for repeatability.
That flat bender, that didn't look very square.
Very surprised you ranked it 1#.
Those router bits should have easily ranked higher.
These are great videos. Letting you get scammed instead of me is awesome. LOL
Dude, you used the curve in quire a cack handed way, it's best used to create a template using mdf, you mark the curve, cut the excess using a bandsaw or jigsaw etc, then attache the curve and flush trim with a router..it makes cutting a curve template easier...you don't use it on final pieces
Spe Tools are quite a well known router\endmill company, for the intermediate\budget price point. I use them with my CNC all the time and have been impressed with all of them. I've also read a lot of good recommendations on various forums. They are an excellent alternative to much more expensive brands.
i've bought a few cnc bits from SpeTools and have had no issues. Granted I have a tiny CNC and don't do a ton of projects yet with it, but, for what I have done, they have been great, especially for the price. I know their compression bits are a new product for them, which *might* explain why no reviews. I have seen their adds getting pushed on several platforms so it seems they could be upping their marketing strategy to try and push into being a more recognized brand.
I also have several SpeTools bits on my shapeoko. No issues. They are a go-to for me. But never used the compression bits.
The lock router miter bit is pretty awesome, in my opinion. Well worth the 7 bucks I paid for it.
Oh, by the way: congratulations, you got scammed. (=
Will the knobs from the Fastcap fit on the Saker scribe?
I use Spetools bits on my CNC machine. Very good value.
Doing the lords work my friend
"Routers are evil." Proceeds to put glass on the router. Holy crap, Dave.
Honestly, you would've had a better doweling jig if you waited for the BanGGood one. I bought it, and I've bought a lot of cheap & high end doweling jigs in my 30 years of woodworking. But the one that was back ordered when you did your video would've been worth the wait. It's well made, very solid, nice box to store everything. It was worth it. These cheap plastic ones. They work of course. But they're total hassles. (NOT ass holes, Hassles loll)
But I have 2. But they're not always accurate, they move all the time. CRAP.. You really would've been a big winner with Banggood's doweling kit. Especially for the price, aside of the 2-300$ high end ones. Good videos!
This video cracks me up! At 20:50 this happens. Anyone with any common sense should not buy anything on face book period.
I kinda like that metal bender. Custom coat hooks.......
