  • In this video, Bryan is going to take a look at 9 Temu woodworking tools - are they genuine or just a scam?
These tools may look impressive, but are they worth the investment? Or are they just a waste of your time and money? Many of these tools look like they are the real deal, but Bryan will take a look at the features and specs of these tools to see if they're worth your money, and if they're really as great as they seem.
Let Bryan know what you think in the comments below!
(Please note that I have no affiliation with Temu, and I received all of the products in this video for free. Due to my concern about the quality of their products, I have decided to only leave amazon links. If you would like to purchase anything from Temu, you can visit Temu.com, however it is a roll of the dice)

I've had good luck with tools with minimal to no moving parts. The drill chuck adapter helps hold the small drill bits that are used for installing very small hinges. The sanding sponges work well, and they come in grits from 60 to 240. I ordered a 45mm Forstner bit for making candle holders and it works well. I ordered six more Forstner bits, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35mm in a set. I just got them today, so I'll see how they do. It's good to have a set of metric bits because not all measurements are in inches! I'm pleased with what I bought, but you do have to be careful with what you buy.

Excellent! I think those are great items to buy from the website. I think that is a good rule of thumb, if it doesn't have a moving part it is probably ok to get! Thanks so much for sharing and watching oldfart269! Love the username! :)

I have that same kreg pocket hole jig, but mine came with a dust port (and it allows room for to still use the kreg clamp). The dust port is absolutely amazing and there is virtually no clean up when doing pocket holes.
Regarding the router bits, my assumption would be they will be fine, just not as long lasting as higher end bits. So, for those rare bits you only use occasionally a cheap set is fine, but if you have a bit you use all the time, it's probably better to spend some extra money and get a good one.
I have a few Chinese knock off tools and the one's I got seem to be fine. I picked up a rail square for my track saw and it is dead on 90 deg and was waaaay cheaper than the TSO ones. I also got a drill guide that is very good quality and again a lot cheaper than the rockler one or other high end ones. I think it's a hit or miss thing. The higher end chinese knock offs are a great deal...if they aren't a lemon.

Great point wesandell! Another user had made a great suggestion to read the comments on the temu website and they usually give you a better feel for whether something is junk or not.
I hear you on the Kreg Jig. I don't know whey mine didn't come with the dust collection port. I heard nothing but good things about it. I got it so long ago and I'm sure at the time I didn't think that a dust collection port was necessary, but that quickly changed once I began to use it regularly! Thank you so much for sharing your experience, always great to hear! And thanks for watching!

@@jameskirk3 I just read a article on that, and it sounds like they have very few items in that price range as they actually have to go through customs if the total price tag of the order goes above $800. It was pretty interesting, but I agree with you if you are spending that kind of money you should expect quality!

When buying off Temu, read the description very very carefully and then examine the pictures for the product. I've noticed they often put two products in the same picture giving the impression that you are buying both when in fact it is only one of those items that is being offered and the other is a separate (but often essential) item. Evaluate each offer very carefully, because, indeed, the advertising can and often is misleading.

    • @FlynndoggWoodwork
      @FlynndoggWoodwork  Před 7 měsíci +2

What an excellent point AncoralmparoPiper. I actually noticed that last night. I was thinking about doing a follow up video and when I was seeing products with the same picture, you had to "read the fine print" to see what you were actually getting. One of the items was a clamp for what I was interested in even though they had a picture of the product I wanted. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I can also add, you should look at reviews that provides pictures... You probably get a good idea of both the packaging and the product. Sometimes what they actually deliver is the one on picture 9 in the description. Most often they aren't trying to cheat you... They just suck at providing the relevant information in a good precise way.

Temu uses slave labor (Uyghurs) to build it's library of items and then ships the items along side bulk orders of things from Alibaba and parts going to other manufacturing so it can skip the import tariffs at the US port. That's why shipping takes so long -- it's sitting in a cargo container on a ship.

Well I've used Temu a fair bit and as for those garbage tools that were defective or broken or missing pieces, they would all be fully refunded either to the financial institution you used to purchase them , or the fastest way is to have the return credited to your Temu account.
Yes it takes two weeks approximately for the shipping but lots of times amazon takes the full ten days to ship.
If your Temu parcel arrives after the scheduled date your account is credited $5.
Honestly I really have no complaints because when you receive junk they reimburse you fairly quickly and hassle free.

I think you could have easily drilled out the metal collars for that pocket hole jig and used it if you had a little patience. Then they would work perfectly. I suspect the holes were undersized because of a slight conflict between old english and metric trill sizes. No big deal.

Hi Brian...I would not even try that wrench as it could easily ruin the nuts/bolts and if you didn't have a vise grip type tool to hand in order to remedy the situation then you would be screwed....better in my view to use a small inexpensive adjustable spanner as would be my preference if I didn't have a correct sized spanner to hand.
I am disappointed at the pocket hole jig...so nearly a perfect tool. I have a solidly built Trend Pocket Jig Pro (same as Masca) and love it, especially for the dust extraction and support rods. That Chinese version looks fantastic and appears to have an even better depth adjustment jig...such a pity they didn't pay just a little more attention to detail with the fit of the drill bit to the guides...shows enormous potential though..

Nice job. I believe you gave a very credible presentation. That said, I personally use a variety of cheap tools. It's a matter of risk assessment. I buy quality when I need real accuracy and dependability, but for everyday stuff that gets knocked around a lot I go for Walmart number two or similar from Harbor Freight. I am more then pleased with my Delta contractor table saw and Milwaukee wireless drill and equally happy with my Harbor Freight band saw and planer.

Chinese factories are notorious for selling products that they were contracted to manufacture by the companies that originally designed them. Like that pocket hole jig. They used to sell off QA rejects domestically but I suspect that aggregators like Temu are selling some of these. Patents are very hard to get in China (unless you're the presidents daughter) and very difficult and expensive to enforce. I have gotten some great deals om Temu, but I try to avoid obvious infringements. Also some security pros have cautioned me about installing their app on my phone.

I’ve taken a chance on a couple of Temu purchases. These items were both relatively inexpensive so I was prepared to write off the cost. The first one was a router lift and plate for £16.00 ($20.00) which was very well made and works perfectly. The second was a £4.00 ($5.00) “Powerful” LED flashlight which was quite lightweight and not very powerful at all.

Temu is a portal with different suppliers.
A lot of the products are identical to the cheap stuff you buy from a branded manufacturer locally.
There are plenty of cheap products you buy which are crap, the difference is here you are basically buying direct from the manufacturer, so it's cheaper/
Were I buying something expensive, it would be worth researching but most of the stuff works to some degree.
Read the ads carefully and check the options, as you might only be buying some part of a product instead of the whole thing.
    Delivery was fast also.
I think we need to remember your stuff is probably being handled by some poorly paid worker who is rushing to get the order out, which is why the boxes are mangled occasionally.

I’ve been ordering from Temu for over a year now, and almost everything I have received has been the exact same quality as what I have ordered from Amazon. Granted, I have bought A LOT of silicone molds compared to the number of tools. I did buy 4 of the shelf hinges, and they do seem very sturdy. The purchase that I’ve been the most impressed with - both quality and price - is a set of 4 black metal table legs for around $22. I had looked at the same type of table legs at Lowe’s, but they were $10 each. I took a chance with Temu, and what I received was EXACTLY the same thing I saw at Lowe’s. The only difference was the ones from Temu also came with little plastic protective caps to put on the bottoms. Now, I have received a few crappy things too, and I just submitted a refund request. Their packaging methods are what has caused most of the issues for me. I can’t get a good resin casting from a mold that has a permanent crease from being folded and crammed into a bag. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Also, their shipping seems to have gotten slightly faster over the last month or so. My mail carrier and FedEx showed up for deliveries at the same time not long ago, and they were joking about the massive volume of Temu packages they deliver. The only things that belong it the trash are the wrench (which wasn't) and the T-square.
I'm curious, were the angle gauge and honing guide sold together in a kit or separately? Either way it's bit unfair to rate the system as as junk because the parts came separately. It's a well made tool, and works as it should. It's probably made in the same factory as your $150 affiliate linked version at a fraction of the cost.
"A high likelihood something would get lost in the mail," why exactly? Have you ever had something lost in international mail? Granted the shipping industry everywhere does lose items, but it's rare. Especially among developed countries. Had it not arrived Temu would have sent you another if you'd have taken the time to inform them of the issue. As a matter of fact they have been known to grant compensatory credit for items that arrive even 1 day later than the due date.
The Enjoywood pocket hole jig is an excellent tool. Did it occur to you that the bit was the problem? Does it seem reasonable that a piece of equipment with such exacting tolerances and obviously high fit and finish would simply fail to drill a pocket hole? Why would you not even try another bit then contact Enjoywood or Temu about replacing the it?
Even if it wasn't the bit, and something like the guide bushings, contact them about the problem. Manufacturers of everything have lemons slip through QA from time to time. Give them a chance to make things right, before throwing a well regarded tool into a trash can.

    • @FlynndoggWoodwork
      @FlynndoggWoodwork  Před 8 měsíci

Well to answer some of your questions, yes, I have had multiple things get lost in the mail on international orders and US orders, including high dollar items such as a solar panel which had a value of $400. I do a lot of online shopping and I have 3-4 packages a year get "lost in the mail". So maybe my experience is not normal, but it happens quite frequently.
The Enjoywood pocket hole jig came with the drill bit, so if they can't do quality control to check to see if the bit can fit in their system, than that is a major problem. If I would have paid money for these items, I would have tried to return them, but the website didn't even show the same items I ordered when I tried to look up the tool after I discovered the problem.
For the honing guide system, I had completed the video prior to receiving the entire tool. That is why I added that clip at a later time. It was a week difference in the time I got the angle guide and the honing guide, so I was a little confused. I hope your experience is better but for me, I'm sticking with buying items on more reputable websites at this time.

Im based in UK and I have bought a lot of stuff from temu and themost stuff is mostly good value for the money, however the tee square you binned I'm supprises you even ordered it ,as it on sale from a lot of shops and been reviewed many times as crap!. good for you getting your stuff free. the honing set is a good kit with a wider and more stable rollers than even the most expensive brands, but you need to have two honing guides for convenence, because for narrow chisels it has to have rollers reversed, and that takes time, so i have 2 guides and its still halve the cost of US or canadian makes and i love it. Here in UK it only takes on average about 7 days delivery, note average 5 days is common, 10 days has happened, as temu is just the sender for lots of little firms, and packing is from them not temu, they only bag up whats sent and forward it on I beleave like a co op.I have bought a bluetooth hearing aid from temu, £27 in a shop £100+ honestly its better than my health service ones. Ive only had one brakage and they ask for a photo, and they refunded me instantly and said not to bother returning it , even returns are free, you just cannot loose

Take that T-square out of the TRASH and remove the straight edge and us it and put the other part back in the TRASH. Might be a good straight edge, maybe.

You and I think so much alike! I actually tried that! I took the straight edge out and then carefully tried to bend it back straight, but the problem was when I was tapping it flat, it actually ended up having little buckles in it, so I couldn't even get it straight! Great idea Karl, unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work! :(

As for the router bits, I’ve purchased a number of cheap ones most are
good, heavy use bits buy better ones cheap bits give us a wide selection when wanted
That nasty little “wrench” I had it’s great grandfather (70’s) when I used to bicycle a lot hated it

Now I have just about every one for those one off projects, but if I have a huge project that is going to require one of these bits I would order a higher quality one. That’s so interesting that that wrench has existed for quite some time. Had no idea! Thanks for watching and commenting Monte!

The pocket hole jig and the undersized guides.
Wouldn't that be easily sorted just by running a drill through it a few times - the drill would soon enlarge the hole enough that it wouldn't bind.
Sees an easy fix for a toll that is otherwise so good!
Also, I understand your concerns about the possible quality issues with stuff from Temu - but please add the links to the items you found.
Add all the caveats you like, but at least give us the chance to buy the same products you bought - there are a LOT of pocket hole jigs and sharpening guides out there, and you seem to have found some good ones (despite the issues you found with them)

    • @FlynndoggWoodwork
      @FlynndoggWoodwork  Před 3 měsíci

Great points on both. The undersized drill guides completely ruined the bits, which was unfortunate. And they had to be reglued into place, was afraid to use some of my personal bits on the system as I didn't want to ruin any more bits. I tried to initially leave the Temu links but the problem with Temu, is their product lineup changes so much and you can't get the same tools. I spent way to much time trying to find the exact items I showed on the video, and I either couldn't find them or they were differentt products. Great points on both and I probably should have explained better. Thanks for watching Adamc!

Nice video. I have made quite a few orders from Temu. You are right about the time of delivery. Fortunately they have a place in Sweden to make the shipping from. That saves us in Denmark a hell of a lot of money in VAT- Import taxes, handling fees and the list is without ending. I have tried to order some wooden chips that goes between the neck and the body on a guitar or bass. It is very simple chips of wood that was priced to 5 $ in the USA. When I got them I had to pay an extra 250 $ in cost, handling fees and taxes, so I am done buying in America. I can't understand why the Americans don't make the same arrangement. It would save us a huge amount of money and give the companies much more sale. About the quality I have the same experience as you. Some things are just crap but I mostly buy screws, nuts, bolts, router and drilling equipment, ball bearings and that stuff is just as good as from our local stores. They have gone down in quality too as they have been turned into "supermarkets" with the same goods in stock in stead of specialized shops. I am looking forward to your next video. Cheers, JohnnyH-DK

Cheep Chinese router bits seem to last. I bought a set of 50 from the Homier truck 20 years ago, and they still work. Most never left the rack, but one I used to make over 40 feet of Brazilian Cherry molding, and that one still works. It's good to have a lot of bits so maybe you can match up to existing contours. Even the bearing held up. I have several high quality bits and each one cost more than that whole set.

You all seem to receive damaged goods from Temu due to the packaging. I have bought a lot of stuff from Temu and none of the stuff that I have bought has arrived with the packaging beaten up like what yours appear to be. Maybe our delivery service takes a bit better care with goods entrusted to them than what yours does.

Hi Flynndogg - thanks for the video, but I do need to disagree with some of your reviews - the shipping boxes and packaging, yes, it can improve, but considering they do come from the other side of the world, a box will also get crushed, so I think the plastic sort of half-ass-way makes %15 sense. I have ordered three times now, and every time they have come within 5 - 10 days - no two weeks or three ... I do really like the way they track it too, they tell you exactly where the package is - in today's world of the internet and scannings, that is an easy thing to accomplish. The prices are good for a lot of products, and for the ones that miss-advertise, they do give you a refund right away - so I have no issues trying something, and if it breaks or whatever, they have a good process to refund you - I also understand that a lot of products advertised by US companies are actually built in China and a cheaper version of it is agreed to be made and sold by China in the deal - I really do not want to EVER pay $18 for a fkg PENCIL...it matters not what it does unless it serves me a readhead woman - 25 years old with 35-22-40 measurements 5' 5" would be fine.
