  • It’s been almost three years since Brooks initially released the Hyperion Tempo, and it hasn’t gotten an update since. But now, we’ve finally gotten the long overdue follow up. This is the Hyperion Max, and it just may have been worth the wait.

    Great review, Mike! I've been curious about this shoe since I first heard about it coming to Brooks's line-up 8-9 months ago. I still don't know why Brooks removed the word "tempo" from other non-max version of the Hyperion. The word tempo is a great selling point for people who want a lighter weight, lesser cushioned, speedy shoe. Up to them, I guess. Also, I believe the new "Hyperion" is dropping to $140. And there will be a GTS version of the Hyperion as well.

    • @reedbreuer9947
      @reedbreuer9947 Před rokem +2

      Because any part of the name that sounds "fast" is a turnoff for 90% of consumers who are looking for just a shoe for walking/jogging. Those people may still enjoy a lighter shoe but don't need to be told that the shoe is "only" for faster running.

    I am interested in these. I'm glad you mentioned the difference between the walking sensation and the running sensation. I think this is overlooked in a lot of reviews. Most of the time, the average consumer only gets to try a shoe walking around a store or in the home. I think its good information as if my experience walking in them matches yours, then the running experience my have some similarities too... maybe.

    Timely review for me since I’m returning to the running store today to try them a 2nd time, along with the Nimbus 25 (different use cases). I’m on my 2nd pair of the Hyp. Tempo-one of my favorite shoes ever-and was wondering whether the roll geometry of this will suit me or if they’d be too stiff. I think I could see from your toe off on the video that the midsole does appear to flex, which I forgot to check myself when I put them on hold last week. I concur that the upper fit and lockdown are terrific.

  • @TolunayOrkun
    @TolunayOrkun Před rokem +2

    I think it is a good update after ridiculously long 3 years. It looks like Brooks design department was at loss what to do after a very good Hyperion Tempo, so they just limited themselves to producing many colorways in this time frame.
    Personally, the use of "Max" is unfortunate. It is not a max. stack shoe by today's standards. It is not even as high as "Endorphin Speed". I think it would have been better to call it something else, say Hyperion Trainer or Hyperion Plus.
    I would have preferred the price point at $160 since new model "Hyperion" to replace "Hyperion Tempo" is being reduced to $140 (at least that is what was said by Brooks in The Running Event)
    It does not have a plate, but I think it compares favorably against Saucony Endorphin Speed and PUMA Deviate Nitro 2. Mike would you consider making comparisons between these shoes?

    As someone who doesn't want to race in plated shoes because it's an apples to oranges comparison to normal training, this sounds like the perfect marathon shoe for me. That being said - I just picked up the Saucony Tempus on discount for a similar use case. (Yes, I know it's stability, but most publications find it a stability shoe that neutral runners would enjoy)

      If you find TS8 deeply discounted, get it since there is very little change between TS8 and TS9. Pre-thanksgiving, I was able to buy two pairs of TS8 at $72 each.
      That said I would prefer TS8/TS9 for shorter runs/workouts since shoe is lighter with minimal upper and minimal outsole rubber. I think Hyperion Max can be better for longer runs which the more build-up upper in Hyperion Tempo & Max provides a bit more comfort, a bit better heel hold, a bit less pressure on top of the foot and Hyperion Tempo/Max has much better outsole rubber coverage that extends the durability of the shoe. TS8/TS9 really has very minimal rubber (however it is very grippy as long as it lasts)

    It’s an ok shoe. But the price point of $170, for what the shoe is, is ridiculous. It’s a bit of a niche shoe that doesn’t really have a place in most people’s shoe rotation. If I needed a shoe like this I’d pick up some Hyperion Tempos if they go on clearance over the Max.

    • @nienjacore

    • @TolunayOrkun
      @TolunayOrkun Před rokem

      I think Hyperion Max, despite not having a plate, is comparable to Saucony Endorphin Speed and PUMA Deviate Nitro 2. I think the price point is OK, I would have preferred $160 better but if it is like Hyperion Tempo, it is likely to last long. On the other hand, "Hyperion tempo" is becoming just "Hyperion" soon and they are reducing the price to $140 (well that is what the Brooks rep was saying in The Running Event)
