- In this video I discuss Alex Pereira beating Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291. I believe that he clearly won this fight, and that beating Jan by decision and showing his grappling impressed me more than he would have if he were to have just won the fight by knockout. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments.

Name one thing Alex did in round 1

Were you licking windows when jan was going for the rnc when he got the body lock?
I see so many people ignoring or missing Pereira nearly getting the guillotine, he was under Jans jaw lmao but nah he didn't do anything apparently
Alex's defence against Jan's grappling was really impressive. Training with Glover really helped and it shows. Alex also had Jan against the cage and could have KO'd him but it looks like he's much more cautious aver Izzy KO'd him. Huge W for Alex. Jan is probably the biggest threat for him in the LHW division.
No. That would be Ankalaev
@@icecoldfire25True but if that fight happens and if Alex can stuff just 2 initial Takedowns of Magomed he fucks up Magomed look at what Jan's leg kicks did to Magomed and Alex did Jan bad with his no telegraph leg kicks. Magomed would be a cripple if the above situation happens.
@@icecoldfire25 If Alex managed to fuck up jan's legs, then Ankalaev's legs will get destroyed
Yes Blachowicz won 2-1 yes. Or worst case draw. But blachowicz got robbed
@@tankista101 Hell no he didn't get robbed. It was a razor close fight but Alex won. Jan may have taken him down and put Alex on the ground for the entirety of the first round and took him down in the last but what did he do with it? Nothing. As much as it sucked, 1st round goes to Jan, 2nd is clearly Alex and 3rd is still Alex imo because that takedown at the end was worthless.
Seeing Pereira go 3 hard rounds and face tons of adversity against a big guy like Jan trying to keep him on the matt was more telling than seeing him go out there and land a early left hook to put Jan out. Now we know he can take out well rounded grapplers as well
That's true but to be fair Jan is not a true grappler. He has black belt with submissions but his right element is the striking. It would be mistake putting Pereira against Ankalaev or somebody with similar wrestling.
This is a shell of the Jan that fought the transgender izzy
@@Natediaaz209he gassed in salt lake city u must be new to this
Jan gassed out going for the finish in the first round. He was in survival from round 2 on
Since when tf has Jan been a grappler ? 😂 Did you just start watching Jan ?
Pereira was already double champ in Glory, now he can do it in the UFC too. So potentially double champ in 2 different sports,in the 2 biggest promotions. Can we aknowledge how legendary that is?
Isn't a double champ someone who holds two belts simultaneously?
@@PotentSenzuholds or has held at some point
@@PotentSenzu usually yeah but it can also be said for someone who has been champ in 2 divisions even if not at the same time
Pereira was a double champion in Glory because he had them simultaneously
@@littlefish2944still only kickboxer to do that in glory which is insane
Alex almost had him in the end of R2. Jan was cowering down, back against the cage, taking in a flurry of punches. Another minute and who knows what would’ve happened.
R3 belonged to Alex, despite the desperate and meaningless takedown in the end.
Jan won R1, but clearly not a 10-8. Alex did have him in the guillotine.
Overall, Jan seemed very very wary and cautious of the power Alex has, and also his striking prowess. He shot for a takedown every chance he got. He didn’t have the same problems against Reyes, Izzy or Luke. Alex is on a different level. He’ll give stiff competition to Jiri, with a strong possibility of a KO. Also Hill. The LHW division just got significantly spiced up.
Then why did jan try to fight in stance in r2? It's clear that grappling is his chance, but he stands and takes damage
Pereira seemed very careful. He could have gone for the finish but he seemed very passive
@@raiden_187 Jan got power too, Alex don't wanna get caught by surprise counter again
treu man. I thought Alex got his KO by the end of Rd 2. shite! so close

@@QuandaleMonkeycuz they fought in salt lake city. There is no disadvantage for jan since alex had to fight there aswell
@@QuandaleMonkey its not like Alex stole Jan's oxygen, they were in the same place, Jan spent a lot of energy in the first round, specially with body lock
The altitude played a huge part in the fight.
And people underestimate glovers guidance who choked out jan

Jan won round 1, but 2 and 3 Alex won, Jan landed a takedown with 40 seconds left in round 3 but did absolutely 0 damage to alex.
You didn’t watch Jan was landing cleaner but fewer shots. Alex literally landed like one good jab in round three.
@@sonny3602delusional.
@@sonny3602blind
@@pridebaru.It was very close on the feet in round 3, a take down and 40 seconds of control, means absolutely nothing if he did not damage Alex in that time, should have tipped the scales in Jan’s favor.
@@sonny3602Alex landed more significant strikes and also landed the more damaging shots. Jan was gassed out and his leg was beat up, so not much power on those shots. One more round and Alex would have koed him.
Are people actually calling this a robbery? Or are we making up scenarios?
Instagram is filled with people saying it... Casuals
If it's a competitive fight, there will ALWAYS be people calling it a robbery
Bruh all it takes is one takedown with no follow up damage in the last 40 seconds of a fight to sway these morons perception lol
What I'm most impressed with is Alex's patience, when Jan was all but done in the 2nd round Alex could've probably finished him if he took some risks, but he didn't.
Also the fact that Alex is bigger than Jan even though he's a middleweight is insane.
That's exactly what I saw. He was carful could have gone for the finish but he was passive
YEAH, true. I wish Alex had gotten the flashy KO. Because it was there
He’s not a middleweight he’s fucking huge! Dude walks around at like 230-240
@@Iyengar7thats how izzy caught him, I'm glad he was a bit less reckless. You could see when he had him against the fence he didn't just let out a flurry of strikes he took his time which is good especially taking into consideration jan's ko power
Nah he could’ve walked into a big hook and been put to sleep lol. I seen how much jan was landing on the feet, definitely wasn’t all alex

We will see that in Jiri fight
I think they will Jiri vs Alex for the belt in December as main event and Volkanovski vs Topuria as co main to close out the year strong, we might just have a great December card this year because all of these guys should be available by then.
Volk should be the main event
@@sixersfan602heaviest title fights always get the main. Although volk has alot of star power, so i could see a scenario where he gets it

@@syrhusprodPeirera vs jiri is a much bigger fight than Volk vs topuria
I know Alex is a 6'4 scary fucking giant brazilian but Jan kinda lost some respect when the first thing he did was a takedown. Not because it was boring but because whole week he claimed he's gonna outstrike him and knock him out. But that takedown showed his desperation and rightfuly so you don't get many title shots after 40 so can't really blame him.
Pereira seemed very careful. He could have gone for the finish he seemed very passive.
Can you blame him? He came from a counter strike KO
Yeah, he wasnt rushing in anymore, because he didnt want to risk getting countered again. He learned from his last fight. If he fights Izzy again, Izzy has a big problem. No more rushing into counter shots from Alex. 😂
Everyone could have tell that Pereira was going to be careful and not gonna go for a KO in his first fight in MMA at LHW, he needed to test his grapple def first, specially with a guy that can grapple and is as big and heavy as Jan.
I wouldn't say passive, more calculated
threat of take down is a big factor but also his last fight made him a little more calculated and not to just rush the KO
I really don't understand why people thought it was a robbery. You can't just hold someone on the ground doing nothing and think you can win the fight
doing no damage and just laying on pereira for 4 minutes does not make it a 10-8 round
Bro Jan was so gassed
He gassed himself in the 1st trying to submit Alex
I'm suprised Alex didn't finish him with how tired He looked
He could have with 2 more rounds or even 30 more seconds in the 2nd
Alex was scared of going for the finish especially against a top 5 power puncher
@@sixersfan602yea I think that jus comes w him recently getting knocked out, good to see him win tho 🗿
@@sixersfan602I think so as well. If you look fight with Bruno Silva, whenever Silva had his back to the cage Alex would go for the.kill. Now, he was probably more careful after he got KOed by Izzy to commit more.recklessly especially against someone who puches much harder than Adesanya
If it was a 5 round fight Alex would have TKO'd him at the beginning of the fourth, Jan was absurdly gassed and damaged by the end and even beat Jan at his own game with low kicks
Jan has one of the best checking in the ufc but got his legs beat up by Alex that’s just shows how good Alex is

Alex is a legend of combat sports. He could soon be glory double champ and a ufc 2 division champion. That would be cejudo-esque
He would be better because he actually finished the long reigning champion. No controversial split decision
@@Pandemomium4Life I can see it both ways. Cejudo had both belts at the same time which you wont be able to say about alex. Plus arguably DJ is a more impressive win than izzy, regardless of closeness.

Rd 1 10-8? WTF!!! He did 0 damage. He had control so he win but rounds are ultimately defined by damage and he did no damage at all
Alex def answered some questions in this fight, he can take a punch from a big 205er and give it back, plus his speed and cardio ares till there even at elevation, and he showed improvement in his tkd defense & ground game, making him a The most well rounded version of himself since his jump to mma
Idk why anyone would be surprised that he could give as well as he takes on the feet at LHW, when he was literally a kickboxing champion at LHW.
@@AirLancer but we didn't really know how his chin would hold up against jan, after being brutally koed 3 months ago, that was a Huge question that just got answered
@@NovaBlade926honestly his chin will probably be better now because he's not cutting the insane amount of weight he was to make middleweight.
Poaton know the basics of bjj, even in his first fight he was going for subs
Even if it’s not as legit as a normal one, alex pereira does have a brown belt in bjj. He does know what to do, just hard to implement it against these seasoned guys
he didnt want to sub, , bcuz if it fails, he will be without gas to the rest of the fight, he said it on a interview
This is this dudes best take yet, I was at home watching and for a couple moments that guillotine was in tight, no 10-8 no way.
Dope break down ! New subscriber
Ground control w 0 damage is not a robbery it’s holding on for dear life
I love both fighters and it was a competitive fight. Pereira answered all our questions. This was one of the toughest matchups at 205 for him. Before this fight I did not consider Pereira an MMA fighter. He’s no longer just a kickboxer, he can hold his own in grappling sequences as well.
Alex getting up is more impressive than jan taking him down
Completely agree with you here!
Alex is gonna beat jiri for the vacant belt and maybe defend with hill then go for a super fight with Izzy
I completely agree with you 👍
Very well said. 100 percent agree
Alex Pereira would probably destroy Ciryl Gane right now.
Idk about that
@@theForbiddenSpeakerI think he would tbh
He is still new to the MMA game. Imagine that every 3 months camp would make a higher difference for him than for the other guys.
Alex has shown such an incredible ability to adapt so much grit and intelligence. He's the real deal. He definitely answered every question, his chin is there, his kicks, and now proving that he's competent on the gorund. I'm a relatively new fan of UFC and have beem watching Alex closely since he's started, I'm genuinely excited to see his progression.
he seems slower and more shy.
@@Natsu4495 I contribute that to the altitude, Jan was gassed but Alex was too, Alex was breathing heavily, and if he just rush things down good chance he gets countered, and with Jan's power it would've been good night, so he was more calculated with his shots
@@Natsu4495 he definitely didn't want to take his chances with the polish power or expose himself too much and give Jan more opportunities for takedown attempts, which is completely understandable.
Said the same in my own breakdown. For me Alex starching him would have been less impressive. Hes shown he has the tank and can survive on the ground when in real danger and could let kick and actually win that battle against the best kicker in the division. More than anything hes showing hes added improvements to his game even this late on. Very satisfying win.
Bro I wanted Alex to get that sub so bad just imagine if he got it
Yeah it’s not a 10-8, he did win imo. Jan gassed, tbh he did well to make it as close as he did the way he was looking
Alex will get better in grappling with every camp 🎉
I felt like the altitude effected Jan a lot
Jeez fans call every somewhat close fight a robbery these days, it’s annoying. Alex clearly won round 2 and 3. People seem to be putting too much stock into takedowns and control time without damage.
It sucks so bad that these fights are only 3 rounds. I mean AT LEAST make these kinda fights 5 rounds if they’re co main like this one was. 3 is just not enough
If Alex could work more in the grappling, 205 will be a piece of cake!
“Even an improved Gaethje loses to Dustin” 🤓
Alex fed Jan a elbow from his back
I feel like periera was just little timid in the fight he couldve actually got a ko or tko win over jan but coming from a ko loss i guess he knew it was best for him not to rush like how he did against adesanya.
After seeing the fight i also initially was thinking about a draw but now i think the right guy won
Alex was gun shy cause he was worried about grappling.. I think he will come guns blazing against jiri. Also his chin is not gona he took shots pretty well
Could be the altitude too and saving energy. You tire faster in higher altitudes.
10-8 first round? Jan did zero damage that round
I don’t know how people thought it was a robbery what were they watching
A 10-8 for sitting on someone. That’s ridiculous. If we’re gonna scored 10-8s for everytime you sit on someone for 5 minutes
Alex won fair and square
fisrt round was not a 10-8, only a amateur would think that, Jan did no dmg and still had to defend against submission attempts
I like alex wasn’t rushing in and throwing bombs left and right, he’s more patient like ngannou did with stipe in their second fight, he looked cautious because he got knocked out last time trying to finish the fight with izzy
Great analysis of the fight. I agree Alex won! Great RNC defense in the 1st by Alex.
Jan posted on his gram saying “they robbed us! Bunch of thieves” 😂
Jan is soy right now coping with the fact that a guy with 9 UFC fights just washed him. This man won the MW title, got KO’d 3 months ago then moves up and beats the Polish Power. Give This man his due and stop crying……
i think we need to give Alex praise, but also, lets just acknowledge that Jan gassed himself out in the first round, second and third rounds the guy was visibly struggling to fight but still made it close with Alex. If this fight was at normal altitude.... Also, watch the third round, there were clearly leg checks from Jan.
Alex is a kickboxing legend already, that means when its about striking alex is better than 90% of the entire ufc, as long as he keeps distance from ankalaev he have everything to be world champion again.
Your pronunciation of Pereira is perfect.
Definitely got scared when Jan was piecing him up but his chin probably better now at 205 still needs to work on getting those hands up against these bigger guys tho
Glad Alex won hope he gets the lhw belt 🗿
Alex did get knocked out by Izzy so there is obviously some things to work on in the striking at least defensively but otherwise it's hard to say he needs to work on his striking which is why I think he can improve lightning fast by only focusing on grappling with Glover, imagine if he even becomes good on the ground
“I’m surprised pereira won the leg kick battle”
Have you not watched his fights lucas? I’ve never seen a fighter check and throw leg kicks like he can in the ufc right now
Yeah as if Pereira didn't out kick Izzy in their last two fights
I really wish alex knew how to lock that guillotine like Jones lol
A failed submission attempt is exactly that a "fail" that doesn't equate to a 10-8
The way Luke Rockhold was talking shit about Alex a while ago while he got knocked tf out by Jan
Just imagine a Pereira with a decent grapple
If he keeps improving his ground game with glover, then he's gonna be a top 5 most well round lhw
Wow I had the exact same reaction watching live. I think 3 sub attempts and some gnp should be enough for a 10-8, but with that guillotine from Alex its debatable. It has to be either a draw or a Alex win
Jan was completely gassed by the end of the fight, taking his time to get back up between the final rounds, and breathing super heavy before buffer announced the winner, Alex could've gone another round while jan was already done for
TAKEDOWNS DO NOT COUNT MORE THAN DAMAGE. People have no idea about how judging works
Jiri is gonna get smoked unless he takes it to the ground, Alex can play the range game and take his legs away
Alex/Izzy/ and Jan have all fought eachother, just goes to show how high this level of competition is and how close these fights can be between these elite fighters it’ll either be very close or someone will be knocked out
I was confused about ur 10-8 statement but then u changed it lool
As a Pereira fan i wasnt sure if his chin could stand he impressed
Casuals always think that control time makes it a 10-8 round even tho control time is the last thing that judges look into lol
Jan is average on ground. As soon as he meets a decent grappler, he gets dominated
Jan went in with the same gameplan and pereira just put a full stop to it simple as that.
It definitely was Impressive my gnome friend I thought he was done when Jan had his back and Jan got gassed 😂
I agree with the time on ground deal. Unfortunately thats not how most judges see things. Thats why i thought jan would win the decision. Granted i was watching the crawford fight more intensely
So glad Alex showed he’s learning and getting better with the ground game, all the Izzy nut riders couldn’t shut up about the 1 takedown he got on Alex
10-8 you delusional, he couldn’t do anything on his back as a bjj black belt is by all means sub-par at best. Now let’s compare the stand-up Jan got his ass tattered and those body-shots took his soul outta him.
Im rooting for Alex and it was a Close fight, and i say im so happy that Alex improved a lot in his grapling and ground skill, Alex is one of the best striker in UFC so i was confident that he can stand toe to toe with Jan in striking even surpass him that force Jan go for wrestling, much respect for both Fighter
Alex now 4-1 vs Izzy
Not even close to a 10-8 first round, lmao, he threw 6 punches, and had 3 rear naked attempted to Alex’s 1 Guillotine, Alex’s deserves credit for the defense against the submissions. It’s 10-9.
This guy didn't even do 50% on his prediction.
"were gonna get to that in a little bit". Guru transition i see
jan checked life 1/2 of Alex's kicks guy
A slight ringing noise from around 3:30-the rest just letting you know Lucas.
the most impressive thing is izzy being a fangirl talking in his channel about alex like he is his favourite mma fighter
3rd round is where it’s get funny, because people are really saying Jan did nothing in the 3rd and that he was a punching bag. like were we watching the same fight ?
jan did basically no damage in the first two rounds
