That's not saying much as their first WM match is very overrated. It was two/3rd's Charlotte Flair
dominating the "Nightmare"
like an unprepared, outmatched rookie; so, it was very predictable when the 'helicopter(-lander/dick's daughter)' won.
Rhea is way cooler now
This match was perfect, even Charlotte smiling after. You could see how proud she was. Rhea massively deserves it 🤝
That was what took me out of it. I'm so tired of the modern wrestling trope of wrestlers getting all sappy and smiling at their opponent because they nailed their choreography sequences. When a wrestler loses their championship, they should be distraught and frustrated, not smiling and giddy and proud of their performances.
@@tjshultz89 It drives me nuts too. The performance doesn't end until you are through the curtain, I wish they'd get that.
@@manuelper The cameras deliberately did close ups of her several times. It was a passing of the torch "ok the young up and coming talent got me, she is good I'm proud of her she took everything I had and she's the better woman tonight" it was similar to Taker smiling and laughing at Royal Rumble 2003. Undertaker lost the opportunity to go to Wrestlemania and become WWE champion! And Undertaker smiled. It's still story telling and in this case it indicated Charlotte being a face and an honorable champion and a passing of the torch. Not everything is breaking kayfabe.

@@Handle_Needs_3_Or_More_Charact Jim roasts ol hangnail adam page for doing his moonsault off the top to the floor but conveniently looks the other way when Charlotte does it and Rhea has to stand there for 60 seconds to catch her. It was a great match, and there were many other great matches on WM from both nights, but I'm not gonna pretend it was a masterpiece when it was filled with modern indy wrestling tropes and spots that don't make sense where no one sells anything that Jim normally eviscerates when anyone else does them.
Owens/Sami vs The USO's, Gunther vs Sheamus vs McIntyre, and Roman vs Cody were much better matches. Rhea vs Charlotte was on the same page as Bianca vs Asuka. As far as women's matches go, those 4 are the best to do it right now outside of Japan.
This why Jim constantly gushes over Rhea. She really is the full package.
And Charlotte is just straight hip undeniable greatness. She was performer of the weekend to me

This is Rhea and Bianca's time and apart from Charlotte its been clear those 2 are head and shoulders above every other woman in having champion material.
In my opinion, this was the best match of the entire weekend.
Booked well, executed impeccably, paced nicely, great finish
Can we talk about Ripley's poise though? Biggest match of her career, and she never even broke a sweat. It's uncanny how composed this 26 year old was, performing in front of 60,000+ people was. She just oozed confidence and personality (something she seems to share with MJF), and it immediately made you invested in the match. A true 5 star match, from curtain to curtain.
Rhea is only 26! Already so incredible. Also i dont want to hear any more Charlotte slander! She is amazing and put over Rhea properly.
Ehh she's still overrated, Charlotte that is. Not as big a star as they think she is, still botchy as hell.

This was an instant classic. Probably the best women’s match I’ve seen. This is why WWE invests in Charlotte bcuz she’s the best talent they have and always deliver. If people weren’t convinced about Rhea then, they will be now. Rhea is not just a goth mami, she’s a freaking star.
Agree on this being a classic (both for women's wrestling and Wrestlemanias as a whole). It was either 1a or 1b for best match of the weekend (alongside the IC title match). That'd make three years in a row that the women have had either my favorite or second favorite WM match; Banks v Belair at WM 37 for sure and either Cody v Seth or Becky v Belair at WM 38.
I don't think that I can go so far as to say Charlotte is the best talent in WWE, but she is worthy of WWE's investment and your (and Jim's) praise is more appropriate than the other end of the spectrum that seems to come with Charlotte Flair and the internet.
I'm leaning towards this being my second or third favorite Women's Wrestlemania match. I've gotta go with Sasha Banks vs Bianca Belair at WM 37 as #1 as the build was way better, which combined with the card positioning made it feel bigger in the moment. I'm leaning towards Charlotte Flair vs Rhea WM 39 at #2, and Becky Lynch vs Bianca Belair at WM 38 at #3. All three were wonderfully produced, executed by the wrestlers, had great crowd reactions (WM 37 despite a reduced audience and outdoor venue), and all had "that" moment at the end, the triumph.
Regardless, all three are comfortably in my top 10 women's matches of all time, and more likely top five. Rhea also has my favorite cage match.... period male or female. In no particular order, I like the three above, plus Rhea vs Mercedes Martinez Cabe (@NXT televised Cage Match), Sasha vs Charlotte Falls Count Anywhere (RAW), Sasha vs Bailey HIAC (top 5 HIAC for me), Becky vs Bianca (Summerslam 2022), and Bayley vs Sasha Banks 30-min Iron Man Match (NXT Takeover Respect). Still trying to finalize the other two.
I do hard disagree with Jim on Charlotte being a face. She's not, and I'd have trouble finding someone else that wants her to be one. She should have been Roman Reign's Tribal Chief before he was, but hey, writing. I can find wrestlers that I think are better in different spheres, but she is overall the total package. Of her generation of NXT callups (the four horsewomen) she remains the flimsiest on promos, but presentation can carry you through that. It's much more painfully apparent though when she's presented as a face. At least she has a great career to show for it.
To be honest, IMO, every one of those women is underappreciated by one party or another (employer or wrestling fans). Charlotte and Sasha really get heat on the internet. I always found it pretty cringey to hear JC compliment Charlotte for the way she carries herself (knowing her own worth), but then disparages Sasha for doing the exact same. Again, my opinion, but the only aspects that Charlotte has over Sasha are physicality (genetics) and presentation. For me, Sasha is better in the ring and on a mic, but not wildly so. Becky is the best character of the the four, but lightest on work-rate (again, high bar). Bayley is the Triple H of the bunch; well-balanced and can be fit in anywhere, and might I add seemingly the easiest to work with (least bloodthirsty shark in the water), although that might be a bad thing for career growth potential. All great nonetheless.
Rhea and Bianca are the champs, Asuka continues to be unfortunately maligned by Jim, Raquel has potential (with character development), and NXT has a very young/ green crop that has some good prospects. Gigi is a favorite, but Tiffany Stratton comes across as a new age Charlotte. Buff Barbie has some real potential against some of the tried and trues of the division. I'm also very hopeful for Cora Jade and Jacy Jayne.
@@lceidolon damn brotha, you wrote me a whole book but I see what you’re saying. For me, regardless of Charlottes cockiness, she does know how to put over talent and make them bigger than they are. She’s to me, the perfect final boss for the women’s division.
I have high hopes for the future. People don’t pay too much attention to NXT but the women over there can go and some of them will be up next. Like you said, Cora, Gigi, Jacey, Tiffany and you also have Roxanne, Indi, Thea Hall can be the next Liv Morgan. Hopefully Amari Miller gets back into the roster picture bcuz she’s good. There’s also, Aoife Valkyrie, Zoey Starks, Isla dawn and Alba Fyre.
Raquel needs to be a heel, she’s perfect for that.

I would argue that Bianca and Aska was the better match between the two.

This is twice Charlotte has given me one of my favourite matches on a Wrestlemania card. The first time was her vs Asuka, though this one topped that. This was incredible start to finish. WWE gave them lemons for a build and they turned it into an entire lemonade empire on night 1.
Third. Don't forget the triple threat between her, Becky, and Sasha at WM32. Classic
Rhea is one of the most organically over wrestlers I’ve seen in the last 10 years, man or woman withstanding. Also, the gulf between AEWs womens division and WWEs is becoming more like a canyon. The women in WWE can actually work for one thing
Charlotte, Bianca, Becky, Asuka, Rhea in particular are miles ahead and not just talking in ring either. They look and act like stars that belong in big matches.
She is terrible in promo and Jim said .

This was one of those matches I can see being looked back on in about 20 or 30 years from now this was an ALL TIME GREAT match.
Charlotte matches never fail..she’s my favorite women’s wrestler and her ppv matches hit top 10 every time

Wish all the success in the world to Rhea, she's fantastic, but props to Charlotte for that absolutely wonderful reversal into a DDT. A god damn work of art.
What makes Rhea great outside of her abilities in the ring are the little things. Her facial expressions and the way she sells is fantastic. That makes such a big difference. Especially during important moments of matches.
Jim's has been saying this about Ripley for at least 3 years now, she is fucking incredible, talent to spare !

This match was great but there is a LOT of recency bias going on here. Sasha vs Bianca at WM37 and Becky vs Bianca at WM38 were both better in terms of story, entrances, and the actual matches themselves. Rhea vs Charlotte was still REALLY good tho 👏
This was an impressive woman's championship match. Charlotte and Rhea really left it all in the ring.

It’s the same as Ric back in the day. As much as the crowd respected and adored Ric, they’d much rather boo him than cheer him. Charlotte is the same. As over as she is, she just works better as a heel.
Back in the good old days before everyone turned every year, you realised who just worked best as face and heel and built from there. Rather than “whose turn is it this week”. Rhea is becoming stone cold anti-hero super over and popular because of having a great true natural heel like Flair to face off against.
👍Because, like Ric, being a heel is an extension of her real personality. She grew up a spoiled princess and walked to the ring by her father.
Her promos in this whole feud have came off heelish and Rhea’s was quite the underdog story which is so funny.

Modern joshi scene is a watered down version of that time (still very tough in some companies), but ignoring the idol and kawaii culture and looks is way better than most women on US.

Charlotte is a beast, and I mean that as the highest fucking praise. She's everything to women's wrestling that her dad was to men's, and elevates her division in spite of all the hate and shaming people throw at her for no good reason other than to make their own shitty existence feel less shitty.
Charlotte has always been a goon lol and she hardly if ever gets injured and that's why she is always the go to Woman for Vince because she is the most reliable in the Division for so many reasons!
Best match of the weekend, closely followed by the triple threat.
Night 1 was fun and above average for modern day WWE, even my wife was shouting at the matches in excitement

Great match... Great pace... Hard hitting and legitimately felt like a fight... This is the kind of wrestling that pulls me in ... I'm so glad some wrestlers still get it and don't just do spots for the sake of getting a ⭐ because I'm getting real sick of these phoney spots where both wrestlers have to hesitate and set up a move just to flip around the ring

This match and Charlotte vs Asuka at Wrestlemania 34 are my favourite women’s matches on the main roster of WWE. NXT had some great ones back in the day like Asuka vs Ember Moon was stellar.
It'll be interesting to see where they go with Rhea since shes outgrown Judgement Day. The Dom stuff is great but dunno how long they can keep that up for
I think they have an easy storyline reason to break them up now. She was the only one who didn't lose at Mania, so she could see them as holding her back and she drops them.
Dominik is the most over member of Judgement Day.
Rhea is the star of judgement day, I’d love to see her being booked like Reigns is booked as the leader of the bloodline
Not really familiar with the roster, but if there is a female monster heel that visually matches up with Ripley pair Dom with her and have the feud be her and Dom with that wrestler as his proxy
Haven't watched a wrestling even in its totality in YEARS. Couldn't tell you the last PPV I watched. Cornette nails it. While watching this live with some buddies I kept thinking, "This might be the best match of the night." "Wait, this IS the best match of the night." "Holy shit, this might be the best match I've seen in years!"
This was an absolute awesome match and it's been great to see the mutual love and respect these two have for each other. Jim is right they need to do this again much farther down the line. Personally for them to top this I think they would have to do a hell in a cell match.

This was genuinely a top three Mania match this year. I know they're both good workers in the ring but I wasn't expecting to enjoy this match as much as I did. Props to both women
Feud was lackluster cuz Charlotte as a babyface is painful so I was ready to tune this one out but this one literally had me jumping out my seat.
This match was phenomenal. Also loved Jim nearly busting out the Scott Steiner math there at the end.

DEFINITELY match of the night, possibly match of Wrestlemania ( close with Gunther, Drew, and Sheamus ) ! These two women showed tf out, I’ve never been the biggest Charlotte fan because of how she’s kinda been pushed down our throats for the past 7 years, but my God can she work her ass off. So much respect to Charlotte for her in-ring work, she truly is the Queen! Shoutout to Mami for also delivering to the fullest extent and reigning supreme. 10/10
When they present her on screen you can change the channel. You shove her down your throat yourself.
You can love or hate Charlotte Flair all you want but this was a STAR MAKING performance and I’m someone who can do without Women’s wrestling tbh. When you look at the girls in AEW then look at Charlotte…its not even the same business. As someone who grew up on Ric doing this all the time,Charlotte pulled every bit of Flair out her bones and carried this. The selling, the faces,cleaning up spots,risking her plastic surgery to really get this match over. I like Becky and Bianca too but Charlotte might be the best thing going today! #WOOOOOO

The Riptide into Flair’s DDT is saved on my phone, it’s one of the best quick series of moves I’ve seen from women’s wrestling outside of some old ass Japan women’s matches.

@@brianmiddleton3359 Asuka definitely should have won. Belair has no real challenges as a babyface champion on that brand. Having her lose the title to Asuka, and have to fight from underneath to defeat this "new" version of Asuka would have been the best way to bring her to the next level of her talent. Feels like she's just treading water now, and as for Asuka...what a waste of a great performer. She should be the monster that everyone fears on the brand, but they just make her so beatable...
Charlotte is the best by miles and had been for years
This match was my favorite match on either night this year. Rhea and Charlotte were both phenomenal. I had taken a large break from wrestling and when I decided to come back to it a couple years ago Rhea instantly caught my attention. There was something old school about her that I love. She takes her time. I can't stand how so many people instantly pop up from devastating moves. Her facial reactions and how she sells is great but not so damn corny like how Liv does it where she screams OOOOOOOOOOOOH at the top of her lungs even for common punches. She has a unique look, a good move set, she's strong, good on the mic, you name it.
Since the attitude era I would tell my friends I didn't care to see bra and panties matches and all that nonsense. "You aren't attracted to that?" It's not that. It's that I tune in to watch wrestling. If someone wants to get their rocks off, they can head over to google and type in a couple words. Unless the eye candy can actually wrestle, I'd rather it's nowhere near the product. A manager? Fine. Taking up time, especially on PPVs? Nope.
Match of the night hands down. But a great night in total really
I'm going through Charlotte's match catalog and she really is incredible. In the ring, she's just so much above every other woman, talent wise.
I remember working on the same show as Rhea/Demi about 8 years ago, fuck she has done us all proud here in Australia. She is her, the best, love to see it

Probaly one of the matches of the weekend. They beat the shit out of eachother an these are the kinda women you wanna push in a women's division to make it feel special. There leaps an bounds above the rest in terms of size an presence in the ring an they just have excellent in ring chemistry
Haven't heard the full show yet, but willing to guess the experience will be mania night 1, snackdown go home show, and hall of fame. While drive-thru will be mania night 2, raw after mania, and ring of honor super card with dynamite getting moved to next week's experience.
Rhea and Charlotte are hands down the two best workers in any women's division anywhere, with the only other notable names being Mercedes, Becky, and Asuka. Bianca is a phenomenal athlete and a fan favorite, but she has so much ringwork to improve on.
😂😂😂Bianca is one of the top women, and she just produced another outstanding match. The mental gymnastics some of ya'll do to deny Bianca is ridiculous.
@@darksideon Having the women be brand-split is terrible for the division. You've only got 6 or so women who can f'n REALLY show out. They should all be in the mix together.
Bianca is fantastic, and will continue to get even better. If we had a women's division that was just Charlotte, Rhea, Bianca, Asuka, Iyo & Becky...it would be banger after banger matches. Yeah, feed them a local jobber chick on TV as an exhibition match, but save those six for PPVs.

@@darksideon Asuka produced that match, Biana followed her lead and it lead to a really good match. Bianca has got a long way to go in regards to the psychology & match calling, not the physicality of it. Today's fans know dick about in-ring psychology.

This was my favorite match of night 1 next to usos, sami and Kevin match. Rhea is going to have a fun and long reign. Just curious to see if she’s still with JD.
The Sami/KO v Usos match for me was a big disappointment. If the Young Bucks did the exact same match you'd be shitting all over it, and it was effectively a Young Bucks match, the ref got buried, it went too long, too many false finishes and more super kicks in one match than Shawn Michaels hit in an entire year.
They wrestled like two guys. They really laid into eachother and it was a wild brutal match at times. This match surprised me with how good it was.

When you match up we'll you create classics ... All them wrestlers have talent it's who you work in the ring well with that can make or break the match and those two women can make chemistry together

Brilliant review for a brilliant match. Best women's match in WM history, definitely eclipsing the triple threat banger from a few years back.
Corny's one nitpick is a very legit one and I hope Rhea and Charlotte takes that onboard; after the faceplant, Charlotte should have milked that for just a minute or two, allow the momentum go swing Rhea's way until a cutoff spot presents itself. Other than that one relatively minor gripe, this match was physical, it was intense, it told a story and the right wrestler won.
Brilliant stuff all round. I loved the Four Horsewomen and it's so bad to see them giving back.
