  • The movie, One Love, the Bob Marley biopic, just came out which has people looking closer at the Rastafari culture. Putting the culture into the spotlight, many have noticed the undeniable ties between their religion and Jewish themes. Jewish organizations have jumped onto the trend of asking, and even claiming, that Bob Marley was Jewish. Whether or not this is true is trivial. What's more valuable is the discovery of Jewish and Jamaican ties and how oppression brought them together.
As a full-time Jewish advocate, Tyler Samuels sheds light on the little-known history of Jamaican Jews and the isolating experience of being a black Jew. From the secret crypto Jews of the Spanish Inquisition to the influences on Rastafari culture and the intriguing story of a Jewish pirate, Samuels offers an exciting exploration of Jamaican Jewish history. Don't miss out on this eye-opening episode that will challenge preconceptions and celebrate the diversity within Jewish culture.

Great interview. I did want to add as someone who is part Ethiopian Jew, that the symbols seen in Ethiopia are there mainly because there has been a Jewish established presence there for over 2500 years. They are still there now waiting to make Aliyah. This interview was great!!!

Most Ethiopian Jews moved to Israel between 1984 and 1991.
There are a few left in Ethiopia today.

All Jamaicans that have ancestors who were part of the slave trade, as indicated in the bible, are Jews. As a 75 year old Jamaican, I saw my parents and grand parents practicing: the men wore beards, they were circumcised 8 days after birth, they covered their heads at all times (look at the old pictures of the slaves in Jamaica), the women were not allowed to cook for men if they were mensturating. They also had a certain diet. For example, they ate only Sea food with Scales, only meat that have Hoof and were not allowed to eat Pork. Because of slavery, we were prohibited from practicing our Culture...However, some continued to wear Dreadlocks as depicted on the walls in Egypt. We are Jamaican Jews.

The history books we used in Jamaican schools gave no mention of the Jews assisting the British on the Penn and Venables mission that took Jamaica away from Spanish rule. The puzzle is fitting together nicely though. Thanks for the information.

"Saturday soup" is a Jewish tradition that became popular in Jamaica. Columbus's son, Diego, married an Henriques. Most of the descendants of the original Jews from Iberia converted to Christianity, many of whom were devout Roman Catholics and Anglicans.

Watched from Old Harbour Jamaica, very revealing. I have known our Jamaican Jews had some involvement in guiding the British here but had not idea they were behind it and it makes sense. Their is a lot of Jewish influences in Jamaican culture and their are still Jews on the island who can trace back their ancestry to the inquisition. Believe it or not Haile Selassi, I heard from another CZcams video, was himself a Jew from the line of David thou King Solomon's relation with the Queen of Sheba and is said he is the last of the house of David to sit on a throne and Henry Kissinger was aware of this. I too understand the Bob Marley as Jewish roots, I learned this from a Jewish online magazine call Tablet Magazine some years ago. It published an article about a set of Jews who was trying to claim Bob Marley as their own as his father was a Syrian Jew plus the man how helped him come to prominence Criss Blackwell, his mother was a Spanish Jew. I have seen online wear Jews refer to Jamaica 🇯🇲 as 'Jew Maker' as it was Cristifer Columbus' intention to make it a Jewish island as he too had Jewish heritage. Amazing.

@@RichardWillis-fn4hg What do you know, there are some Ashkenazi Jews, the Stechers and other families, go to Mucurapo Cemetery, on the northern side, there are many Jewish graves and a few tombs, there is evidence also of when they came and why, which was during the 2nd WW. Also, some Portuguese Jews/Sherphadic Jews, came also, who began to set up shops and got into goods etc.
I wanted to see what other information there was that they had, so do you have information to negate that, or to consider Jewish presence as fake, this has nothing to do with my views regarding the Ashkenazi or Sherphadic Jews and their legitimacy, history is history, bad, good or indifferent.
