  • One message this podcast has tried time and time again to explain... Jews come in all shapes and colors. The Jews from the Middle East are called Mizrahi Jews and they are just as culturally tied as Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews are.

Chaz Volk, host of Bad Jew, goes through a learning curve to uncover the impactful contribution Mizrahi Jews have had on all of us and embraces the personal survival story of the Oran family.

    It's estimated about 5% of the entire Egyptian genome, based on broad population data of course, is Yehudi in origin. Which is actually very significant in terms of DNA. It means we have been living there continuously for thousands of years.

    6:25 speaking of harsh realities, they arent saying Poland for no reason. Poland is said specifically & aligns with that "white"=Jewish narrative along with being the location of Auschwitz. Im not Jewish or Israeli but have been sub to Tal for awhile now & am a part of that 70% of Americans that support Israeli & the Jewish ppl around the world that the world doesnt see all over the news acting a fool. Also believe Im in the minority of ppl in this country that actually understand the deep rooted cause & know a lot of these narratives are purposely for the naive westerner that doesnt know enough to know any better & anyone over a certain age that was alive on 9/11 should know by now.

    So when you say that Mizrahi Jews were ethnically cleansed in their countries of origin, what ethnicity are they?

    • @badjewpod
      @badjewpod  Před měsícem

      @thetravelingclatt can answer this better but outside of the initial phase of the diaspora, when Jews tried to take home in their new countries, they were kicked out again and forced to leave... again. This is a phenomenon for all Jews internationally. The Jews that experienced the pogroms of the middle east are called Mizrahi Jews

    'Jews' means 'from Judea'.
    Judea is in the middle east.
    Jews were originally 'Mizrahi'.
    Jews were originally 'brown'.
    When I was a 10 year old in Paris in France the Ashkenazi Jewish friends I knew used to tell me that they would try to learn to pronounce and read Hebrew with the Sephardic Jews and Mizrahi Jews in the Jewish neighborhood of 'Belleville' in Paris because Mizrahim in general could pronounce Hebrew very well.

    So tell me if an Italian or an English person adopted the Jewish religion does that make him or her a Jew? Isn’t that the point you’re trying to make? Or are you saying only Middle Eastern people can be Jewish ?So this would include the Arabs,Syrians etc. if you had only one sixth of actual Jewish blood mixed with other cultures does that make you Jewish? Let’s face it the Jews have intermarried into many cultures,some are white some are brown and some are black. This whole debate about what is Jewish could be solved by defining Jews as those who belong to a certain religion and leave it at that. It is the Zionist that have made being Jewish a geographical issue. Like many of us Jews are citizens of the world.

    • @badjewpod
      @badjewpod  Před měsícem

      So a few things: 1) Converting to Judaism makes you a Jew. Terms like Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Mizrahi, etc., are based on those genetically connected to the ethnoreligion of Judaism and the geographical location of their birth on their mother's side. As for Zionism, Zionism is the ideology that Jews deserve to live in their ancestral homeland. Terms like Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Mizrahi date all of the way back to the Medieval ages way before the Zionist movement. They were terms written by Jewish scholars to help people understand the Jewish diaspora on an intellectual level based on geographical spread via pograoms, crusades, general persecution.
