Ukraine needs to gain control over its air space before trying a counter offensive again. Otherwise it's too expensive in lives and materiel.

the problem is Ukriane is lacking aircraft and those F16's will they ever arrive! far too late and not enough of them... the West is been very slow to decide and slower to deliver weapons. the USA failures are appalling and we must wonder if the USA will stop supporting Ukriane soon, thus no more weapons.
The US is falling apart a coup as take place now and an unelected person controls the government today. a person who is fully aligned with Putin. the GOP is the Putin Party today... if trump loses the election a new insurrection will occur, 2025 will the US become a failed State?
A civil war could break out in the US.
ALSo Americans give Russia a green light to attack Ukraine by launching from within Russian land and telling Ukriane they cannot attack these launch points. The US has NEVER had a goal of Ukraine WINNING this war!!! The US only wants Ukraine to wear Russian forces down, but by GOD do not win the war... Putin's ego will be offended and this is far more important to Americans.

In Soviet times there was a comedian -- I don't remember his name -- who strummed a guitar and sang a song as part of his act. One verse went something like this: 🎼🎵🎶 "There's toilet paper in the shops again." At that point the audience chimed in with an enthusistic "Hurrah!" The comedian continued: 🎵🎶 "But it's used." The disappointed audience lamented in unison with an "Ohhhhh." The comedian camd back with: 🎵🎶 "But we can use the other side!" The relieved audience: "Hurrah!"

In May 2022 Russia was holding 22 % of Ukraine INCLUDING Crimea and DPR/LPR. Today it is 15 %..Fast backward specialists are just IGNORANT. When you need to field T-62 and T-55 tanks older than Vladimir, buy primitive drone from Iran, poor quality ammunition from North-Korea you are in good shape are you ? Not mentioning using Chinese made golf carts or bikes to try to advance with disastrous results
Russia's defense industry is collapsing fast. Went from 32 customers to 12 now. It was already tanking in 2021. Russia was not able to deliver S-400 to Turkey as promised for 2023..they are now talking 2027...Unable to deliver spare parts for SU-30's India fighter plane. Customers left are not able to pay, Russia has no access to the us dollar, nobody is using ruble even China forced Russia to use yuan. Pitiful results on the battlefield are a marketing disaster for Russia a country where exporting arms was after energy the ONLY other market
    Results..
India ditch the Mig-29 for their navy tooks Rafale, Brazil ditch SU-35 took Grippen, Indonesia ditch SU-35 took Rafale and f-15ex...SU-35 was last in all competitive tenders, poor engine, extremely costly maintenance, poor electronics, poor cockpit integration.
India went away from the SU-57 leaving Russia without customers, unable to finance and to build the plane. 2 or 3 of them were making circle in Syria...New tank Armata T-14 is a disaster, nothing works, same for the Tigr infantry vehicles that were blown away by Javelin. India the only big customer cancelled many orders including choppers, planes.
Without exports manufacturing arms is an economical suicide.

The exhaustion of stockpiles of soviet era weapons may be closer than expected. With open storage of 1950's and 1960's vintage hardware, the best running units went into service in late 2022 and early 2023. The restoration of rusty hulks may require more man-hours and be less reliable than new production. The problem with new production is not chassis or tracks, but the sophisticated electronics required for modern warfare. Russia is adapt at creating prototypes in small samples, it is more challenged in producing high-volume production line vehicles with consistent quality care. To complicate the scenario even more, tank and artillery operators with extensive training and combat experience are more difficult to find. What good is a functioning tank with operators that were service industry employees or farmers in their past life? Lastly, combat vehicles run on fuel - diesel, gasoline, or kerosine. As refinery capacity is undermined by drone attacks, the fuel needed to engage the Ukrainians may not be available in sufficient quantity for a sustained offensive.

Speaking as a U.S. Citizen, I think the general answer is that people may disagree and they have to work out compromises. It ended up working out, but some need more convincing then others, and it ended up taking a really long time. Look at our budgets each year. They don't pass long term bills but do emergency last minute extensions that push the crisis off by a few months. There are many reasons for things like this, but the consensus would be something like: It's an election year. That means that depending on how things go, different bills might have better chances depending on who has control. Thus, in an election year, typically, big bills don't really get passed much.

    • @GregBrownsWorldORacing

Typical, kick the can down the road and let the next guy deal with it. They seem to have little conviction about important things. It seems to always be about the next election, no long term thinking and strategy unless they feel they have political cover. Just doesn't seem to work, like when Jesse Helms & Ted Kennedy (who were mortal enemies) but voted what they thought were the values of their constituency. They believed the votes would take care of themselves if they did their jobs. Neither one of them cared if the senate voted 99-1 against them.

In recent weeks we've been seeing fewer tanks. We're also seeing Russia use far more older towed artillery units (versus self propelled). If anything this conflict showed me, the best weapons are: the ones that you can mass produce and afford to lose.
The good thing about the World War 2, T-34 (Russia) and Sherman (US) was: none cares, how many would be lost in battle. As opposed to a Tiger (Germany).
All of these high sophisticated weapons can only be deployed in battle, because the conflict is being fought in Ukrainian soil, not in Russia and NATO countries.
Once the infrastructure that produces the weapon, is destroyed so it's the weapon production and some requires several factories, to produce different components.
What I mean is: weapons have become too complicated and expensive.
    For example:
    - How many T-34s could you build, for the price of one T-90 ?
    - How many Shermans could you build, for the price of one M-1 Abrahams ?
    - How many IL-2 Sturmoviks could you build for the price of one Sukhoi SU-34?
    - How many P-51 Mustangs could you build, for the price of one F-16 ?
Now even more ridiculous: how much bullets, each soldier wastes, with their automatic rifles, when compared to the bolt action rifles, used in WW2 ?
It's no wonder, we never see waves of Tanks or swarms of planes, like in WW2.
It's too expensive to build an army these days.
There's simple, not enough weapons for everyone and I guess, that's a good thing.
Hopefully wars will become too expensive to be fought in the future and people will resort to negotiations, before letting the guns talk.
If anything Ukrainie conflict proves, that. They are fighting the biggest country in the world and they are bejng supplied by NATO. All I can see is: not enough weapons, for both sides.
There's alway a cheaper solution: nuclear weapons.
"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein

In the past half-year, since said upgrade, they are used significantly more and the rate which ground is being taken as well has risen relative to previous months and years. Fabs cost very little to make, relatively accurate, not worth using Air-defense on and can be used upward to dozens of times a day in a single area, let alone across the frontline. 3) I can agree Russia is bleeding and slowly at that, keep in mind they also have nearly shifted to a "war time economy" we hear from the news, where production of certain equipment ex/ (Artillery shells) is higher than that of the west.
