Who will supervise these completely untrained, potentially unwilling young adults? Are professionals in front line services expected to also "volunteer" train these people and take time away from their already overstretched jobs... It makes no sense what so ever.

Times Radio conspicuously not saying at the end of the clip that the 'children of the corn' interviewee is a former journalist from the Telegraph, Financial Times and the Spectator, or mentioning that Onward is a right wing think tank. He was shortlisted as Tory candidate in Selby & Ainsty and tried for a seat but failed in this election.

This is why they stopped National Service back in the day. The kids didn't want to be there, the army didn't want them there, and it dawned on everyone that millions of conscripted kids peeling potatoes was pointless. 🥔

All branches of the armed forces are extremely technical today. No conscript could or would learn his job in one year, or even two. Of course, if you only want cannon fodder...

Basic training is 48 weeks for 16-17 year olds, you could probably just do that and then stick on a few weeks of extra training/practice for the 18 y/o conscripts
