Asking the safest Tory seat why they're STILL going to vote Conservative

  • Castle Point is one of the safest Conservative seats in the country. At the 2019 general election, it got 76.7% of the vote share.
But change is in the air. At the local elections, the blue vote plummeted and the local council was taken over by a coalition of independents. And although the Conservatives are projected to retain their seat here, their majority is expected to be slashed. A Labour MP in Castle Point? Stranger things have happened.

Most of these people originally came from the East End of London in the last 30 years. They moved away from immigration on purpose. Thats why I always find this to be a slightly skewed point, and its very often areas adjacent to places of high immigration, or rather places with rapidly increasing diversity. In this case, Castle point is not far from Thurrock, with a large black and Eastern European population, and many of its residents moved there from Newham, Ilford, Barking etc.
So they have experienced it and disliked it, and moved to a more "comforting" social bubble. In time they'll move east again to somewhere like Shoeburyness or Burnham, the moment they see an Asian person.
