I have Crohn’s and I use Entyvio. I started using it years ago when it first came out and was so brand new that insurances didn’t want to cover it at all because it was so unknown. As weird as drug commercials are (and they definitely are, this should not be a normal thing but here we are in America) the one good thing with that commercial in particular is that it’s helped some people in my life understand that what I have is serious and that when I say I have to go to the bathroom or I’m gone for a while, this is what it feels like.
Edit: oh, I’ve been in Humira too! It didn’t work for me, that’s why I’m on Entyvio. One thing that sucks that they don’t tell you about Humira … the injection hurts. It hurts. So. Bad. My husband used to have to do them for me because I wanted to yank it away as soon as I started it.

I'm in pharmacy school, and the classifications such as "moderate-to-severe" are actually really important! They usually have a set of criteria that puts the patient in that classification and the classification can dictate the course of treatment for a condition, which can vary drastically for each classification.
Also, a lot of drugs say they shouldn't be taken with grapefruit because, long story short, it can, depending on the drug, cause the drug to not work as well, not work at all, or to become toxic. It's not like this for every drug, and your doctor and/or pharmacist should tell you about it if it is.

    • @SetiSupreme

Most of the time grapefruit eliminates the enzyme in your gut that restricts how much of the medicine can be absorbed in your bloodstream and if you happen to take grapefruit with that med, you're going to get an overdose.

      RIIIIIGHT??
As someone who’s been in and out of hospitals and doctor offices extensively, for the last decade..
There’s nothing easier than being able to get on a doctor’s bad side, by attempting to take charge of One’s own care/suggest potential issues/solutions.
And even though I have had doctors miss SO MUCH, which, caused me to have to take action into my own hands, and achieve better results than I did with medical professionals..
I still think that very same sentiment, as you presented, when seeing those commercials - “Why would I ask/suggest to my doctor about a specific drug I learned about on a freakin’ commercials??”
Also, the whole “Let your doctor know of you’ve had a parasitic infection..”
Uh, shouldn’t my doctor know, already??
And the answer to that, from personal experience that left me with liver disease..
      No.
      No, they don’t always know.
Even when they have seen you on a monthly basis.
However, one would think they would, being the well-trained professionals they are suppose to be.
(And I am not meaning to bash doctors. If anything, the medical system in the US is absolutely inundated, and it leaves doctors minimal time to do their jobs as effectively as they could).

Except none of us can just go out and buy the drugs that get advertised in these commercials, they're prescription only and almost none of us have a choice in which version of the drug we get prescribed (usually you'll get the generic version). And nobody's saying they can't get a product off their mind. I know tons of commercials that annoy the shit out of me but I couldn't tell you what product any of them were for, and that doesn't help anybody. But I DO remember the commercial jingle for an air conditioner company that's located solely in a city I haven't lived in since 1998.

    • @BrittHubbs
      @BrittHubbs Před rokem +6

@@FrenkTheJoy I get it…and this is my job haha. I work for an ad agency, so my job is to do whatever the client wants. I don’t run ads for any drug companies though. From my understanding, drug companies advertise their medications so if you have the illness or disease the drug is prescribed for, the hope is you’ll talk to your dr about the drug, your dr will prescribe it, and the drug company will make money.
Advertising is a mix of sociology, and gambling. You have a specific product, you target a specific demographic of people for that product, you cater the ads to be appealing to that demographic of people, you publish the ad, and you pray for a pay off. Sometimes it works and sometimes it flops. When it flops, you regroup and you try a different tactic. You’d be amazed at how affective advertising actually is. The most affective forms of advertising are actually subliminal. Even if people aren’t aware of it, they’ve been impacted by advertising. Take MacDonalds for instance. The colors red and yellow signal the hormones that make you feel hungry. Just driving by it can make you want to stop and eat there because of the colors. It’s fascinating stuff. I record a lot of voice overs for commercials. There’s a specific way I phrase and emphasize words to make the ad more memorable. We have a saying in the business “if it sticks….it hits,” (meaning-if it sticks in people’s minds, there will usually be a greater pay off). Again…I’m just a person doing my job- so I can keep my job and pay my bills haha. Don’t shoot the messenger (but I totally get…sometimes I see ads and cringe).

Nor is medical insurance or being guaranteed medical attention is possible for everyone so aside the capitalism these medications are probably all some people can afford.

I’m from the UK, but have been to the US on a few occasions for work and one of the random things I’ve left with are your crazy ads for any medication. They go into so much detail about all the potential side effects you wonder why anyone would even try them. The cons seem to heavily out weigh the pro’s from what I can tell. The ads here are very! different. They list the potential side effects on the packaging, but not the ads themselves. Ae also don’t have ads for literally everything, just regular everyday things like for headaches, allergies and women’s products.

I don't understand the mentality behind medical commercials. We don't have commercials for specific plumbing parts or car parts because we just trust our plumbers and mechanics to decide what to use. So why aren't we just leaving it up to our medically trained doctors to prescribe the right medications for our issues?

Omg I loved this video! Now maybe I'm bias because I've worked in global biopharmaceuticals for 7+ years now, but I thought this video was both funny and rightfully inquisitive. You raised great questions. A lot of what we do is bound tightly by GCP and GCD standards. In the US, obviously we are also working with the FDA but you'd be shocked how hands off they are. I cannot stress enough that is you have adverse reactions to ANY vaccine or medicine you take, report it!!! Report it to your prescribing physician and also be sure to report vaccine specific issued via VAERS! this will ensure your reactions are properly documented and future research and development depends on knowing historical outcomes. Also, I agree our commercials are ridiculous. You should hear some of the pitches that didn't make it to TV. Dear lord. Anyway thanks for the great content as usual!

I wanted to watch a series recently and had to choose one with ads because i didn't want to sign up for a service and forget to cancel. It was easily 40% pharmaceuticals and 60% show. Mostly the same meds, too. I couldn't take it and just decided to wait until i could watch it elsewhere. The US is weird in general, but especially when it comes to ads for medications. Saying that as an American who was totally conditioned for all of this in the 90s. ETA: Brozempic... I CANNOT😂😂😂😂

For all you non-British folks, in the 1970s/ early 80s, there used to be an ad on TV called SMASH which was a dried potato product and the featured "Smash robot martians" were a top hit, everybody loved them and the jingle was catchy.. 😄They also showed re-runs on the telly when I was growing up in the 90s. I always wanted a Smash martian action figure too. The product was originally made by Cadbury the same folks who make chocolate, now Premier Foods.
